Am nearly 58. I haven't heard this gem in a long time. The lyrics resonate with me more than ever before. When I look back I spent more time in relationships wishing I was single than being single wishing I was in a relationship.
I love how the stadium he enters near the end was the old White City Stadium in London, just months before its demolition. Lot of sporting and musical history there!

Similar shots sequences of London The lift sequence reminds me of the movie Angel Heart where Jonny is on the lift decent to HELL! That scene use to scare the sh*t out of me with the closing credits and soundtrack.
The Human League's most underrated single for me. It's completely synth pop genius. I always could have seen New Order doing this track for some reason but without the warmth of The Human League's vocals. Bow Down ++++++ I also relate tot he lyrics so much, the sentiment is perfection. It's been a a favourite of mine since 1984 ****
I am a 41 single man, tried to start some relations in my life, but for one thing or another, I guess I always wanted life on my own... Modern times are not the best for long relations in any case.
Absolute jem of a song. Human League were superb and some of the lyrics are great. " Up here the summers shorter and winters very cold I'm looking forward to the life my lonely life will hold " wow

Sitting in the car waiting on a friend, I started singing the lyrics quietly to myself. Why do specific songs from my younger years make me so filled with emotion that I want to cry.All the memories of past relationships that broke down hurt so much.I look back at a past so full of regret. And I stop to wonder why are we trully here..why? As Ive grown older I find myself stuck with no answer. There must be more to life than...
There is, definitely. It can only be found in a relationship that will not break down, and that is with Jesus Christ, as I've found. If you call out to Him, He will answer you. "He shall call upon me, and I will answer him: I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him, and honour him. With long life will I satisfy him, and show him my salvation". Psalm 91:15-16

A beautiful, poignant, sad song full of pathos concerning the breakdown of a relationship and the singer's inability to hold on to it. Very telling lyric: "It's funny how my problem stopped, when we went for a walk", and the concluding line about being true, in view of his partner's search to find and recover lost love. Still brings tears to my eyes when I listen to it. An extra verse would have been a real treat, but hey, we can't have it all!

Why, I don't know, but this song moves me to tears. I guess it's the very real pathos expressed in the lyrics about the apparent hopelessness of the man's situation in his supposedly not being capable of holding down a relationship and his attempting to escape from it all, and leaving behind a partner who loves him and wants him back again. He is eventually found by the resourcefulness of said partner and perhaps deep down he realises that he is in denial of his latent ability to have a loving relationship ("It's funny how my problem stopped when we went for a walk"). I always felt that the Human League's massive success with the 'Dare' album in 1981 badly cruelled them in terms of their next album's success. The natural rush to follow 'Dare' up with more product yielded some terrific stand out singles in 82-83, some fine B-sides plus a good reissue of an earlier song. When the 'Hysteria' album was finally released in 1984, it contained some excellent songs, but the album as a whole was not a patch on 'Dare'. It lacked depth and unsurprisingly, it enjoyed far less overall success. Imagine for a minute what MIGHT have emerged if the League, after 'Dare', had held out, then released 'Hysteria' in 1984 with all the post-'Dare' singles & superior B-sides replacing the weaker "Hysteria' album tracks. This is my view of what 'Hysteria' could have looked like, song by song......1. Mirror Man, 2. You Remind Me Of Gold, 3. I love you too much, 4. (Keep Feeling) Fascination, 5. The Lebanon, 6. I just think that a) there was no topping Dare, and b) time had moved on without them to a degree. Not saying they didn’t do some excellent post-Dare stuff, but like a lot of the top electronic bands of the late 70s & early 80s, they struggled to find a new identity and sound once that pure electronic age had lost it’s cutting-edge.
Uno dei gruppi meno compreso per l'epoca ma sono ancora oggi con le loro canzoni il gruppo più innovativo nel panorama dance le loro canzoni sono incredibilmente belle
A great song from a genius band. The.human league has always been in a league of their own . No contest ..its something to think about when you imagine the story behind this song.. a world with one humans left. It would be a lonely world. And Have it's good and bad benefits about it.. Free for all. You could maraud all the shops and have whatever you wanted. Forget about health since their being no more doctors. When your times up it's up..
I have always felt I relate to many songs of theirs for me then unknown reasons, but now as time goes on it because more clear to me, it was meant to be that way. once you understand the meaning behind the songs.....

Lyrics
Winter is approaching
There's snow upon the ground
It's good of you to visit me
I'm glad you came around
I don't know how you found me
I didn't let you know
I only moved to this address
I guess you think I ran out
But that's not true
Other people settle down
I never do
I always have to move on
Just have to go
I've often wondered why that is
I'd like to say but I just don't know
I guess you always wanted
Life on your own
I guess you always wanted
Life on your own
Up here the summer's shorter
And winter's very cold
I'm looking forward to the peace
My lonely life will hold
I'm really glad you came here
Thank you for the talk
It's funny how my problem stopped
When we went for a walk
Standing here together
Means so much
I won't forget your confidence
I won't forget your touch
You know I'll come to see you
Passing through
We'll always be a world apart
I'll travel on but I will be true
I guess you always wanted
Life on your own
I guess you always wanted
Life on your own
I guess you always wanted
Life on your own
I guess you always wanted
Life on your own

And hopefully I will get a chance 2c the Human League play live again soon. And hopefully it will be in Portsmouth where I live in and play Chess 4. And m8 I've got a lot to thank Joanne Catherall ♥️ epy 4. 4 m8 and Joanne Catherall ♥️ doesn't know it yet. But she is partly responsible 4 the best night of my Life ever. Which was in Brighton 6 years ago ather my 14th Human League gig that I went to see. And I had a good time chatting with Queen Joanne Catherall ♥️ my favourite Human League member and my hero 4 ever. And I missed the last train home from Brighton 2 Portsmouth where I live in and play Chess 4 on the night in question. And I managed to get a free taxi home from Brighton 2 Portsmouth on the night in question. And Queen Joanne Catherall Sweet ♥️ l have put it down. 2 yr Love Action. Inside your ♥️ 2wards me.

An absolute masterpiece
Probably the first ever post apocalypse video ever made in music history.

Yep, reminds me of '28 Days Later'
Clever of them to film London as if no-one was there. Not sure how they did it.
