My Interview Experience - The Reason I got into Cambridge

- This video gives you my experience interviewing for Cambridge Economics. There are a lot of rumours out there that Oxbridge interviews are disgustingly abstract and difficult. Does those rumours hold true?
In this video, I will give an in depth description into my Cambridge Economics interview. Doing well in this interview is how I got into Cambridge! So for anyone wondering how to get into Oxbridge, this is the key part! Learning to be confident in myself and managing preparations around my studies was really important.. Check out my channel here: / selvinsstudent101 for videos on this!
I also wanted to highlight what sort of questions you get asked in an Oxbridge Economics interview and make this information available to everyone. Some people charge £100s for information like this, but I want to make it accessible to as many people as I can!
The aim of my channel is to give students tips and tricks I wish I knew when I was studying. These range from how to do well in exams, how to get into Cambridge, and how to manage your time well. For some background on me, I am 21, from London, and currently work in Investment Banking. I did well in my A-levels and also at Cambridge studying Economics. I want to give all students access to the good resources and teachings I learnt from my strong supportive bubble. This was my family, friends and teachers.
Additionally, just being at Cambridge taught me many things. I hope that people from all backgrounds can learn how to get into Cambridge, instead of having to pay for unnecessary things like overpriced 1-on-1 sessions.
Great video Selvin! Keep em coming
Would love for you to do a video on how you went about getting an internship in your second year/application journey and strategy.
Same!
Hey! Thanks for making this useful video! I have got a couple of video suggestions
1) Could you finish up your year by year review of the Cambridge Economics tripos? As usual, go over the courses you took, the content covered, the workload, difficulty, and your own personal opinion of them.
2) This is sort of related to question 1. Can you go over the whole dissertation process and go over your own dissertation? Like how you find a topic to research, how you actually conduct research, etc. I'm sort of interested in learning what you wrote about, and your journey.
Thanks!
Hi, thanks for these suggestions! I will definitely look at doing my third year review soon and I could definitely do one specifically on dissertation
@@SelvinsStudent101 thanks a lot!!
Third year video is up!
My interview is in less than 2 weeks! Hoping for the best
Good luck!
How long do you think answers to qualitative questions should be? e.g. min 30 seconds max 1m30
Tbh really depends on the question. Don’t try to hit a certain length, and think through your answer. You don’t want to waffle as it will make it harder to understand your point. I would say you want to try and get your point across as concise as possible. They usually ask further questions
hi Selvin, just came across your channel. I did quite badly in the admissions assessment but i think the interview went okay. what do you think my realistic chances are of getting in?
There are a many more factors that affect your chances besides the admissions test; A Level grades, personal statement, sometimes college choice, etc. but the fact that you got an interview places your chances at generally around 20%. If you got like a 5.0 or above in the tmua + A*A*A minimum and got an interview then your chances lie at that 20% mark, if your stats are better then that percentage increases. Take my words with a pinch of salt as I am also applying this year and am far from an expert - this is the knowledge I've gathered through various sources on the journey so far. Hope this helps!
Hi Selvin, great video! I am applying for econ this year - is there an email I would be able to contact you on?
Hi Emma, yes. Selvinvlog@gmail.com
lmao how did you get the fruit ninja font that's pretty cool
Hi! Did you do TSA when you applied to Cambridge economics, and did you do ECAA?
Hey, TSA is for Oxford. ECAA is for Cambridge so that’s the one I did :)
@@SelvinsStudent101 thx alot
How did you do on your tsa?
And how were your a level grades a*a*a* I assume
@@otdo5606 hey because I got accepted, they don’t provide scores at Cambridge. For A levels, I got A* A* A* A (A in Physics)
@@SelvinsStudent101 ok thank you. I was also wondering how much of an advantage 4 over 3 A levels puts you at
@@SelvinsStudent101 and did you take further maths ?
@@otdo5606 yep I did
