She is an incredibly beautiful , talented woman. I loved her in high fidelity. I just have to say that maybe she dodged a bullet by getting away from him. I wish her nothing but happiness and success. ❤❤❤

I agree. It was a disgusting and Satanic movie. The part that has stuck in my mind, all these years, is the chicken. Not entertainment. Despite the fact that Cosby was being hypocritical of her choices, doesn't mean that her choices were right. I lost all admiration of her after that movie and her adulterous relationship with Kravitz.
I began watching Cosby Show in grad school in the 00s. I immediately looked at the family and thought, "Claire got some explaining to do. Denise is not Cliff's kid "
Clair's mother was light skin. Cliff's father was light skin. Denise and Sondra could have gotten more of those genes. I know many families with brown skin and light skin siblings from the same parents.
Having grown up with The Cosby Show, along with being a childhood fan of Bill Cosby, I always wondered what happened to cause "Denise" to disappear all of a sudden. I'm so glad to finally know the truth. Thank you so much for sharing this information with us. ❤
From an outside perspective, there definitely seemed to be all sorts of control issues going on. Cosby seemed very controlling, the studio had control issues, and Bonet was being pulled in different directions which I'm sure pinged her own sense of control. Thursday nights on NBC was an absolute lock. Even lesser shows getting that time slot between Cosby and Cheers benefitted greatly. I'm just glad Lisa endured.
@billebrooks As I recall, Family Ties ran for a few seasons on Wednesday night, then Thursday, then died when moved to Saturdays for a few reasons. It was replaced by A Different World that was canceled after Cosby and Cheers ended. They both benefitted from following a show that had tens of millions of viewers and followed another show whose rating took off after the 2nd season. I liked both Family Ties and A Different World, but both greatly suffered from their cast changes. Brandon Tartikoff threw his support behind Cheers when it was suffering early on, but specifically did not champion the casting of Michael J. Fox early on.
I don’t know what was wrong with her during the last season of the show. She seemed alright to me. I do think he should have let her participate in the finale.
Lisa Bonet was great as Denise Huxtable and she was treated horribly during the Cosby show run. My how times have changed. Today no one would care about a young actress getting pregnant and it is not like she was pregnant out of wedlock because lets face in the 1980's that still was not acceptable. To me it seems Cosby and everyone involved in the decision to dump Lisa were just projecting their immorality onto Lisa. I have always liked Lisa Bonet and I am happy that she had not only a great professional life post Cosby but a fulfilling personal life as well. Great video Dave!!!
and they could have hidden it. This Is Us did that for Mandy Moore. Lol they had to as they had her playing a 70-year-old woman a lot of the time. They did a good job hiding it. What is really sad is Cosby successfully did it for Phelicia Rashad. they could have done it for Lisa too. Even with having Denise going off to Africa for a year instead of hiding Lisa's pregnancy Lisa could have returned to A Different world. Actually I liked it better when it became an ensemble cast and not centered on a main star as it was in season 1 but Lisa could have been part of the ensemble. There was room for her. I think it was a mistake to remove Marisa Tomei too. Lol but she became a star anyway, sort of like Roseanne getting rid of George Clooney.
I keep telling my sister that expiration date on food is just a suggested date. I give old food the smell test and if i don't gagg I say it's ok to eat. My sister said they will put on my Tombstone. " I told you that food was bad ".@@jdsundstrom
Lisa seemingly just didn't give a f###. She was out there doing films like Angel Heart and posing half naked on the cover of Rolling Stone magazine. She seemingly was going out of her way to destroy her wholesome Cosby Show Denise Huxtable image and the image of The Cosby Show for whatever reason(s). A Different World was a fantastic sitcom, especially after they brought on Debbie Allen to restructure the show during the second season. If Lisa stayed for the second season it would have been great with her. Enemy Of The State is a great film and Lisa's character in the film was super good.
Talk about adding new characters to TV shows, Welcome Back, Kotter tried to add an official - emphasis on official - girl Sweathog during its third season, which didn't work. (The show had dropped to #26 in the Nielsens.)
It never recovered from John Travolta leaving. Of course, as Gabe Kaplan said, the guys were approaching 30 and still playing 17-year-olds so it was no longer believable. At least Dobie Gillis went to college and then the army as Dwane Hickman got older.
It's sad what happened because I really liked her character but here's the funny thing I only remember a handful of episodes. remember she tried to make Theo a designer shirt or maybe it was her friend? Anyway it was very odd I think he was complaining about the length and she said just tuck it in. The scene cracked me up he said it is tucked in to my socks and the look on his face. LOL
I love Dr. Huxtable, but I'm not too fond of Mr. Cosby. Anyway Lisa is totally gorgeous, check her out on Arsinio. Bill played the straight guy to Denise's (Lisa) ditzy ways and she was a great foil to Dr. Huxtable's no nonsense parenting. Oh and I can't forget THeo played by Malcom Jamal Werner, he was always up to soemthing wacky like flooding the dorm hallway so him and his buddy Cockroach can slide across the floor. I like how his character grew from a carefree teen to a responsible young man conquering his dyslexia. Claire Huxtable is to die for too, played by the lovely Physlica Rashad. She shook me up when she yelled, ""Vanessa, go to yr room!!"" She could really lay down the law. Anyaway what a wholesome funny family!
I didn't watch Angel Heart until a few years ago. I've seen it three times now. It was directed by Alan Parker, the same guy who directed Pink Floyd's The Wall, and it does have the same cinematic feeling. It is an intriguing story about a sinister man, Mr. Louis Cypher, (subtle hint there) who hires a private investigator to find a person who has skipped out on his end of a 'very important contract'. It is very disturbing at times and has a lot of twists that you can feel coming but can't put together on the first watch. Lisa Bonet is young and beautiful and shows a lot of skin throughout and there is the famous sex scene. What makes that scene uncomfortable for most people is not so much what the characters are doing, but what is going on around them at the time. Some would think it was made that way for shock value, but the emotional dissonance that you will likely feel is an intentional part of the telling of the story. It is not for the easily discomforted, but if you enjoy grittier cinema like Tarantino and Scorsese, you might consider it.
I would have to say that I've always found Lisa Bonnet's acting pretty unremarkable. However she had a tremendous screen presence that was accentuated by her beauty. After a while I guess people ran out of relevant ideas and the show really didn't have much left. Getting rid of her didn't help but was the final nail in the coffin.
A very insightful video. Years ago by chance I shared an elevator with Lisa where she was tapping the Cosby Show. I, of course, said nothing. Too shy. She, however, looked me in the eye and said: "Hi! How are you?" I responded but quick as a flash she exited. *sigh*. Years later when I was working as a chauffeur, guess who I was a assigned to drive? You got it. She smiled never knowing I was that shy young man.
I loved Lisa and her character Denise, and was so excited about A Different World.. But Bill’s reason for eliminating her kinda contradicts itself.. Underdeveloped?..by whom?.. When the show first aired, Denise was a well-developed persona, enough to land the spin-off.. So what happened when she returned.. The writers perhaps?..Her storylines were interesting to me, being married and playing stepmom to Raven Simone..I believe it was a culmination of things..I read many things about her when she returned..lack of enthusiasm, being late, indulging in marijuana, not knowing her lines..Yes, Bill’s desperate attempt to add younger characters was evident, but Gary simply ran with the rumors that were circulating for years.. I will forever love Lisa, and her popularity helped make that show successful.. Bill became spoiled, he had his time being number one, and it was well deserved, but when shows like Roseanne and The Simpson basically made fun of his family agenda, it was time to give up the crown..it had nothing to do with Lisa, just a different world, so to speak..
@@kingsports1113 Her career simply ran its course.. it had nothing to do with him..they were divorced at her peak anyway..it was her bohemian attitude that sunk her..
Looking back now, _A Different World_ was a really good series. It was an honest and realistic portrayal of college life, and there haven't been very many series that did this well. Jasmine Guy was great as Whitley. Kadeem Hardison and Darryl M Bell would have been great for buddy comedies. And I loved Cree Summer. I thought she was really cute.
The Cosby Show and Different World were my favorite shows back then. Nothing against Lisa Bonet, but I liked Different World better after she left the show. Her character was a better fit for the Cosby Show.
I remember when she got all that bad press. I felt so bad for her. Wow talk about haters! That critic was just hating on that poor girl. I remember angel heart too Lol. Yeah that shocked me a little. I was young and probably shouldn't have watched it. The voodoo stuff also freaked me out. Lol. I wish her well. She is and always has been very beautiful ❤
Her down fall started after hooking with that Kravitz dude! That's when she started looking like a hippie! He might have had something to do with her doing that movie too! I miss the OLD Lisa Bonet!!
I also remember vaguely that the reason he gave for getting rid of her or having her terminated was she refused to go to college in real life. Which looking back now is ridiculous because she was going to be working as an actress. How many hours are there in a day? If you think about it most actresses do other work during the summer hiatus so that makes no sense to me.
Lisa's character was a great teenage part & she was wonderful in the roll. I actually loved Its a Different World, if I remember correctly it did pretty good for a couple of years. I hope she is doing well these days!
There is a lot to unpack with regards to Lisa Bonet. It is not debated that she was fired from the Cosby/Different World shows because of her pregnancy and career choices, but the circumstances of these situations were not covered in this presentation. First of, Lisa Bonet was a teenager who played at acting, not a teenage actress. By that I mean is she didn't strike me as a person who was serious about her career. Stories from some of the producers reported that from the day of casting, Lisa appeared on the set dressed how Cosby imagined his onscreen teenage daughter would behave. She was hired and started her career. But many people would later report that she was not into the production, she didn't add anything to character making her very flat. Her tone did not change as she spoke her lines in many scenes. That aside, many teenage boys had a crush on her (me as well) and she could do no wrong. Then she got Different World and we tuned into that. But here is something you should research, she appeared on the David Letterman Show in which David Letterman asked if she was excited about having her show. "I guess," she replied. "They told me to do the show and I am doing it." For anyone else to get their own show at a young age would be at least excited about and put their best effort into it. Let me tell you, Jasmine Guy, Kadeem Harrison and many others were more than happy to take the show as their own and found success in it. Lisa's pregnancy did not jive with the vision of Denise Huxtable. As Bill Cosby said, Denise is not pregnant, Lisa is. And he did not want to show an audience another young Black female pregnant and unmarried. That is what he wanted to avoid because there is plenty of that imagery on American television already. When she came back on the show, Denise Huxtable was a married woman, with a child and was working to establish their way. Lisa's activities outside of the Cosby Show also reflected badly on the image Bill Cosby was trying to project to an audience that never saw a Black Affluent family on television. It is easy to say Bill Cosby and the producers fired Lisa Bonet, but consider the fact that Lisa Bonet is not an actress serious about her craft. She would have done everything possible to make the best of both shows and expand her acting portfolio to be at least a well-know, well sought out talent. Yet, what is done, is done.
Spot On 💯. I remember the tabloids and Rolling Stone magazine trying to make her seem wild and rebellious against the " Cosby Way " but IMHO it makes her seem entitled and ungrateful for his mentorship. Regardless of how BC is viewed today, he was low-key letting her know that " Angel Heart" is/was a humiliation ritual but she did it her way. BTW, what other scenes from that movie do you remember? 😉
Hi dave! I absolutely believe she was done dirty! She was told she'd be back on the Cosby show and then was told no we don't want you anymore. Granted getting pregnant didn' t help her career any but still that was pretty lousy.
Man, I had the hugest crush on her. I just watched your video on Small Wonder, and then I saw this one. You just earned a aubcriber. You talk about a lot of the movies I gre up with.
I regularly watch The Cosby Show and A Different World. They're both great and historical sitcoms that still hold up. I also read initially that 'A Different World' was about a white girl's experience attending an HBCU. Cosby got ahold of the premise and reworked it as a vehicle for Denise Huxtable, the rest is history...
Growing up I had a major crush on Denise and when she left the show I wasn't as into it as I used to. But I remember reading the reason she was fired was not only because she became pregnant but that the show runners were saying she was unreliable and was acting like a diva thus was fired from a different world.
I heard those rumors as well. However, at least publicly, Bill Cosby himself said that she was a model worker who showed up to work on time and did her job.
debbie Allen who Felicia rashad's sister talked about it bill said lisa is pregnant not denise huxtable. bill crosby is a tv legend but not necessarily a nice person but that's what some famous people said.
It was a different world back then. Wholesome family values were important when it came to sitcoms such as the Cosby Show, The Facts of Life, Different Strokes, etc. The word pregnant was still very much forbidden and too sexually suggestive for TV. So naturally a female child star actress on a popular show getting knocked up in real life was a huge problem and a situation that was frowned upon. The solution was always firing the girl to save the show. Dana Plato was fired after getting pregnant and the same thing happened to Lisa Bonet. If any of the Brady Bunch girls had gotten knocked up, they would have received the same treatment. I like to think nowadays an actress won't get fired simply for getting pregnant. The world is less holy and has given up a lot of moral values in the years since the Cosby Show aired.
I vaguely recall Bonet saying she couldn't relate to The Huxtibles; she never experienced a lifestyle like that growing up. Cosby was very controlling and we see that in a different light today, and I don't know if I'd call her a "victim", but like many victims if she had publicly criticized him at the time, she would have been the one disowned by the public. Many children who have told the truth about a respected figure have faced worse. As a former fan of Cosby since I was 5, I feel sickened, disillusioned and even betrayed....and I'm just an ex-fan. It was one more lesson about wolves in sheep's clothing.
I’m not sure if they did her dirty, but pregnancy did not help the image they were trying to portray for her character. The reality was she a young woman who was growing up finding herself and didn’t want to be type cast as Dense which is why she took a chance with the movie so producers could see her range. Her TV show wanted a character who was 19 who put herself in silly situations but always found a way out of the situation. The didn’t have a way to coverup a pregnancy and didn’t want to deal with that storyline. The simple solution would have been to bring her back to either a Different World or back on Cosby Show after she had her baby and stated she studied overseas for year. I think going back to a Different World would have been tough because the show moved into a completely different direction which actually made it a better show. But I think Bill wanted to display his power over the cast of both shows to show to people not to cross him. I think this stuff happens a lot in Hollywood and a lot business industries.
I think Lisa Bonet is one of those actors who don't want to be pigeon hold into playing the same character. I think Cosby and others can't face the fact that Lisa is becoming an adult. And like all adults, she has the right to choose her own personal and career path whether we like it or not.
Good morning from Japan, David. I always enjoy your videos. I enjoyed watching The Cosby Show because it was funny and relatable. Still, Lisa Bonet and Denise Huxtable were, for me, the most relatable because most actors playing characters my age at the time were at least ten years older than me. From my perspective, everything you said about Bonet perfectly describes a youth testing the limits of her talents and abilities when given the opportunity. At the same time, it’s not difficult to understand what Cosby wanted to bring to TV audiences after years of blaxploitation movies and television shows featuring social stereotypes of black families, a relatable family in which mother and father were university graduates, had professional careers, at home, emphasized the importance of education to their children and expected them to do their best, praised them when they deserved it, and disciplined them when it was necessary. That “let me be regular people” conversation between Cliff and Theo in the pilot episode signaled the show’s departure from being a run-of-the-mill comedy about a black family embracing mediocrity. I wish Cosby allowed Denise to continue with the show and explored how she and the family worked through her pregnancy and motherhood, the birth and growth of her child while the other Huxtable children grow and experience life.
Misogyny didn’t age well did it. And I don’t agree that her character in Cosby was bland. As a girl of the 80s, we idolized her immediately and forever. I think your opinion was very reasonable
When your young you don’t have much wisdom yet. Hollywood, as well as the music industry, constantly exploits this. I always liked Ms. Bonet, and am glad that she’s doing well!
I've seen Angel Heart, and I have to say that I'm pretty sure it's what ruined her career for years after. Even Robert DiNero says it's one of the worst movies that he's ever been in. The story idea was ok, but it was written terribly. Oh, and I liked Lisa in New Girl also.
It seems like he didn't treat her very well. I think a show is always in trouble when they keep adding people for seemingly no reason. In the pilot, Cliff Huxtable says he only has four kids. And why did they change the theme song every year? Contrast this to _The Simpsons_, which hardly ever changes anything. It just keeps going and going.
The reason why he says that they only have four kids, in the pilot, is because, when they taped the pilot, they hadn't yet added the character of Sondra Huxtable, the oldest daughter, to the show. That character wouldn't appear until the 10th episode of Season 1 of the Cosby Show. My guess as to the reasons why they changed the introduction every year was likely due to trying to keep the show looking fresh & also because the cast members were getting older with every season the show was on the air & the producers wanted to keep the introduction up to date with what the characters looked like that season. Also, they didn't actually change the theme song every season, they just changed the musical style that it was performed in every season.
@@jdsundstromSince Covid hit, I’ve been living in the 70’s & 80’s a lot. I’m amazed by what I remember … we were the last generation that was allowed to grow-up with a bit of freedom to explore the world ourselves.
I liked Lisa Bonet Dave. I thought she was so adorable and cool. She was treated unfairly by Cosby! Who shouldn't judged anyone he is a despicable human being!🤨
I think that for the very first time I'll have to disagree with you, Dave. I was a BIG fan of the show back in its day, but always thought that Bonet was the one who brought it down. She was positively monotone as an actress. Every line was delivered with precisely the same (lack of) energy. Warner, Pulliam, and Bledsoe brought life and hilarity to their characters, but Bonet's performance was as wooden as a two-by-four. Add to that the drama outside of the show, including her performance in _Angel Heart_ ... It was best that she left. Cosby's secret past aside, she wasn't a fit for the "wholesome, family-friendly image" he was promoting. And yes, I appreciate the irony of that statement, but this was nothing we were aware of at the time. As far as we all knew, he was still "America's Dad", "Cosby sweaters" and all, and we loved having that kind of role-model on tv. "Cosby" was a huge brand going back to the 60s, and he was protective of it. She just wasn't a good fit for it. (The irony is heavy, I know. Nobody ever said showbiz people weren't supreme hypocrites.)
Let's not forget about the "Tragic Mulatto" undertones (the sex scenes were with white actor Mickey Rourke--still a no-no with the black old-guard) as well as the semi-nude Rolling Stone cover.
For some reason she seem to court controversy even when none should’ve been there. I help coordinate an Earth Day festival in 1990 and she spoke and unfortunately had thousands booing her. It was really unfair. that time Cosby was God, especially among after in New York like myself, there were live television productions, being filmed in New York, that Cosby was one of the few who offered New york, Actors, the opportunity to make a decent living. People thought Cosby was right to kick her off the show he really did at the time achieve a level of sainthood.
I was hostile to a _Different World_ when it started. That was because they moved _Family Ties_ from their time slow to accommodate it--NBC on Thursday night That was a great lineup in 1985-87 Cosby Show Family Ties Cheers Night Court Hill Street Blues
The Cosby Show did the same wrong thing to Lisa as Diff'rent Strokes did to Dana. The actresses should've been kept on the shows to develop the single-mother plot lines. It would've made for interesting and pivotal stories that could have boosted ratings. But what do I know?
I kinda liked the flakey, free spirited Denise. Im glad Different World continued on and became more of a vehicle for Marisa Tomei, Jasmine Guy and Kadeem then the “new class” of kids later on. Was supposed to be Lisa’s launch pad but became everyone elses
Maybe she was done wrong with NBC & BILL COSBY. I can't say yes or No. But I will this Yes The Show was not The same without Lisa. On both Show. But A Different Word did very well with out her. I say Again it was not The same without her I feel Bill Cosby could had brought Lisa for the last Final Esp.
Im 47 i had a crush on Rudy when it got to the 4th season i was more for looking at her a lot. Denise was ok beautiful but she was much older. But i like Rudy better. She's like a princess being the youngest.
Lisa Bonet didn't want to leave the Cosby show to do that a different world spinoff if you go back to her interviews she wanted to stay with the crew she got on with
It seems producers Carsey Warner have stars of TV shows get into trouble. Bill Cosby with the sex scandals and Roseanne getting fired from her show for bad remarks
@@jdsundstrom Of course not Dave. I remember Redd Foxx stood off Sanford and Son because he wanted more money as did Carroll O'CONNOR. Suzanne Somers was fired from Three's Company over a salary dispute. Same with Valerie Harper when she was fired from the Hogan Family. Nothing though as what happened with Cosby and Roseanne. She was in the reboot of her show when she was fired in 2017.
I believe that television contracts have an appearance clause. In other words, you won't change your appearance in any significant way. Pregancy is a big part of this.
Unplanned pregnancies happen though and trying to force an actress to get an abortion, (which YES, I read that happened to actresses) is wrong. How terrible to say Lisa slept her way out of her job when she only got married and then pregnant. Thank goodness Zoe is here today, and Lisa was not intimated into having an abortion.
I don't think they did anything wrong by dropping her from a different world. She chose to get pregnant and that didn't fit in with the story they were going for, or Cosby's idea for the show. If an actor got injured off the clock or did things off camera that changed his reputation, he might have gotten fired as well. The Cosby show change however was a distasteful move in my opinion.
Like you, I agree that moving Lisa back to "The Cosby Show" was an okay decision. Although, truthfully, I would have liked to have seen her stay on "A Different World".
@@jdsundstrom I find it interesting that you say that. My Mom watched the show back in the day and introduced me to it. We would rewatch the series as a family, except for the first season. The reason why is because my Mom didn't like Lisa Bonet's acting, so I myself grew up never seeing her on the show.
Jerry Supiran fell on hard times and, in 2012, claimed he was sleeping at the homeless shelter where he volunteered. I don't have much of an update beyond that.
Wow, Deebs is such a jerk, talking about Lisa like she's some spoiled reckless child who threw away gold served to her on a silver platter. And given what Bill turned out to be, she dodged a bullet by falling out of his good graces and leaving the show.
I remember the Gary Deeb articles. In general, he was a jetk. He could be pretty vicious about a lot of artists. I still watch the Cosby reruns because they had excellent writers. But even before the Lisa issue, I started to have my doubts about Bill. Infidelity tumors had been out there forever, and I found him to be cold and .... sanctimonious about his real-life children in interviews. He sermed to brag about how much control he had over them and how he used corporal punishment on them. Even the audience gapped at times. When he allegedly sold out his own daughter to appease the National Enquirer, it seemed typical of that type of narcissist. Nothing else about him was a surprise after that. I think he wanted to control the narrative about Lisa, too. Who does that to a young person? Apparently, he had us all fooled about her and everything else. What a cold and selfish man.
@@jdsundstrom The title of the video says the REAL reasons, so there must have been some others excuses/reason/whatever made INSTEAD of the truth. I was curious what some of those might be.

I'm so glad you enjoyed the video. Thanks for the comment!
and they could have hidden it.
Thanks for reminding me I had some week old potato salad in the fridge.
Oh no! Don't eat it!
Right did she think about her TV bro and lil sisters Rudy wasn't old enough to see this
Talk about adding new characters to TV shows, Welcome Back, Kotter tried to add an official - emphasis on official - girl Sweathog during its third season, which didn't work. (The show had dropped to #26 in the Nielsens.)
Adding new characters rarely works.
@@jdsundstromYou could do a trivia episode on thst! What show added Cousin Oliver, What show added Kazoo, etc!
Then there was Barbarino's "replacement" in the last season, Southern dude Beau!😅😂
Anyway it was very odd
I think he was complaining about the length and she said just tuck it in.
The scene cracked me up he said it is tucked in to my socks and the look on his face.
LOL
😂😂😂😂 n she threw the bear at him 😂

I remember liking "The Wall" a whole bunch more than "Angel Heart". That said, I think I'm going to watch it again and see if my perspective changes.
I loved Lisa in Angel Heart, she was very lovely in that movie, just breath taking! And her daughter, lovely too!
Agreed!
Thanks for talking about this Dave!🤰👩🍼👶♥
Anytime, SMBIII. 🙂
A very insightful video. Years ago by chance I shared an elevator with Lisa where she was tapping the Cosby Show. I, of course, said nothing. Too shy. She, however, looked me in the eye and said: "Hi! How are you?" I responded but quick as a flash she exited. *sigh*.
Years later when I was working as a chauffeur, guess who I was a
assigned to drive? You got it. She smiled never knowing I was that shy young man.
Thanks so much for sharing. And...don't feel bad, I stood right next to Danny Bonaduce at the airport and never said a word to him.
Thanks for sharing, Ed!
Lenny Kravitz destroy her career bill tried to warn her
@@kingsports1113 Her career simply ran its course.. it had nothing to do with him..they were divorced at her peak anyway..it was her bohemian attitude that sunk her..
Such a great cast!
Well said @em286!
I loved Lisa in Angel Heart too. I watched it so many times 🎉
Her down fall started after hooking with that Kravitz dude! That's when she started looking like a hippie! He might have had something to do with her doing that movie too! I miss the OLD Lisa Bonet!!
Lisa was not Denise.
Aw shucks. I like Lenny. 🙂
"A Different World" ran for six seasons on NBC. It was a big hit for the network.

I guess I didn't remember too correctly! Old age? 😕
Hey Dave yep they never got along its sad hope your well my friend 😀
They definitely did not see eye to eye on everything.
Thanks for sharing!
And while Bill Cosby was trying to portray a positive, affluent Black family, he was drugging and raping women.🤷♂️
You make this world a better place Dave!
Thanks for your kind words!
Angle Heart is amazing. Very well executed movie.
Hi dave! I absolutely believe she was done dirty! She was told she'd be back on the Cosby show and then was told no we don't want you anymore. Granted getting pregnant didn' t help her career any but still that was pretty lousy.
Thank you for telling the truth about the situation
You are most welcome!
Thanks for sharing Dave the info and facts much appreciated
My pleasure!!
Thanks man

I regularly watch The Cosby Show and A Different World. They're both great and historical sitcoms that still hold up. I also read initially that 'A Different World' was about a white girl's experience attending an HBCU. Cosby got ahold of the premise and reworked it as a vehicle for Denise Huxtable, the rest is history...
Thanks for sharing!
She was great in the movie High Fidelity.
Great movie!
Gthanks Dave, nice job .
Glad you enjoyed it. 🙂
They did Lisa WRONG!!!
I always assumed that Bill tried to hit on her & she declined him. So he showed her by ruining her career.
From everything I've read, that did not happen. That said, I don't think Bill lost any sleep after letting Lisa go.
Lisa was gorgeous. I had a crush on her when she was on the show. Stopped watching A Different World when she didn't return.
She probably wouldn't let him put his pudding pop where it wasn't supposed to be. 😂
debbie Allen who Felicia rashad's sister talked about it bill said lisa is pregnant not denise huxtable. bill crosby is a tv legend but not necessarily a nice person but that's what some famous people said.
Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for sharing, Gerard.
Thanks for sharing!
I think Lisa Bonet is one of those actors who don't want to be pigeon hold into playing the same character. I think Cosby and others can't face the fact that Lisa is becoming an adult. And like all adults, she has the right to choose her own personal and career path whether we like it or not.
Cosby accused Bonet of doing inappropriate stuff?? Now he's in prison for doing inappropriate stuff.. Karma at its best..
He's not in prison. His sentence was overturned. So much for karma.
I seem to remember her on "Life on Mars".
It does not age well at all!
I adore Lisa Bonet
When your young you don’t have much wisdom yet. Hollywood, as well as the music industry, constantly exploits this. I always liked Ms. Bonet, and am glad that she’s doing well!
I've seen Angel Heart, and I have to say that I'm pretty sure it's what ruined her career for years after.
Even Robert DiNero says it's one of the worst movies that he's ever been in.
The story idea was ok, but it was written terribly.
Oh, and I liked Lisa in New Girl also.
Thanks for sharing, Brian!
Wow … Electric Company magazine. 😳
I'm so glad you noticed!

I try!
There's always room for Jello, a wolf in sheep's clothing.
Thanks for sharing a different perspective. Truly appreciated!
@@jdsundstrom Thanks, Dave. Sorry for disagreeing. Love your channel.
Let's not forget about the "Tragic Mulatto" undertones (the sex scenes were with white actor Mickey Rourke--still a no-no with the black old-guard) as well as the semi-nude Rolling Stone cover.
Angel Heart was a good movie!
Lisa B was also in High Fidelity with John Cusak
For some reason she seem to court controversy even when none should’ve been there. I help coordinate an Earth Day festival in 1990 and she spoke and unfortunately had thousands booing her. It was really unfair. that time Cosby was God, especially among after in New York like myself, there were live television productions, being filmed in New York, that Cosby was one of the few who offered New york, Actors, the opportunity to make a decent living. People thought Cosby was right to kick her off the show he really did at the time achieve a level of sainthood.
Thanks for sharing your unique perspective.
I was hostile to a _Different World_ when it started. That was because they moved _Family Ties_ from their time slow to accommodate it--NBC on Thursday night
That was a great lineup in 1985-87
Cosby Show
Family Ties
Cheers
Night Court
Hill Street Blues
If I remember correctly, "Family Ties" struggled a bit ratings-wise after the move.
The Cosby Show did the same wrong thing to Lisa as Diff'rent Strokes did to Dana. The actresses should've been kept on the shows to develop the single-mother plot lines. It would've made for interesting and pivotal stories that could have boosted ratings. But what do I know?
I agree. I think they really could have done some groundbreaking stuff.
She was the only reason i watched the show.
Another reason why I hate the news media.
They are not all like that particular reporter. In fact, I dare say that type of article wouldn't fly these days.
I never liked her character and both shows benefitted when her character left. I actually liked the movie, "Angel Heart," especially the trick ending.

Denise was a VERY developed character. Rudy and Sandra were the ones who never got developed.
Maybe she was done wrong with NBC & BILL COSBY. I can't say yes or No.
But I will this
Yes The Show was not The same without Lisa.
On both Show.
But A Different Word did very well with out her.

It seems producers Carsey Warner have stars of TV shows get into trouble. Bill Cosby with the sex scandals and Roseanne getting fired from her show for bad remarks
I think it comes with the territory.
@@jdsundstrom I don't think any other producers had these problems, Not Norman Lear, not Mary Tyler Moore not Gary Marshall or Aaron Spelling
Good point...but I can't believe that these problems were exclusive to Carsey Warner.
3:31 - Leonard Kravitz! What a nerd!😀
Wow
Wow, Deebs is such a jerk, talking about Lisa like she's some spoiled reckless child who threw away gold served to her on a silver platter. And given what Bill turned out to be, she dodged a bullet by falling out of his good graces and leaving the show.
Thanks for sharing, Lynn.
She got caught up in that whole reinvention of the "black culture" thing back then. Turned a lot of folks off.
