Growing up in a relatively poor household, The Cosby Show was my escape. I loved seeing people living in a comfortable house, with plenty of food, nice clothes, no major worries. It made me dream of having a better life one day. Lisa Bonet was so stylish. I always wished I could dress like her, look like her, be like her. I watched every episode of The Cosby Show, and every episode of A Different World. She is still so beautiful, so eloquent, so classy.

I love both The Cosby Show and Roseanne. Roseanne more just because that show was absolutely hilarious. The Cosby show was great though and still is. No matter what Cosby did in his personal life, that doesn’t change what his show represented and still does. Roseanne on the other hand should have never been fired from her own show. Absolutely ridiculous!!! Roseanne is what made Roseanne so great. As much as I like John Goodman, The Connors feels forced and to me is not nearly as funny as when Roseanne was a part of the show. ABC really needs to let her come back.

The show was made to show black people how they too can live a upper middle class life with education and class. It was too inspire the next generation. Not show people a black character acting stupid or acting violent. Sad that some people don't get that. Many black people would not be successful today had it not been for that show, no matter what offset or onset problems it did more good than harm for a generation of black people. Why should we only get to play taxi drivers, secretaries, drug dealers, sports players ... why can’t we have roles that show we have brains, intellect and education too.

Terran - I've personally experienced what you are saying in a few relationships... So it has some validity.
I don't think it applies here tho, since she was fired for her behavior.
If she had *quit* for being out of control, then it would apply.
As far as what I have experienced in relation to what I think you may have also experienced...
We can't control other people behavior unless there is a legal contract or blackmail involved.
Even then, they are no absolute guarantee.
People do what they want to do and our expectation of what that should be is irrelevant.
We can't change other people into something they are not just because we want them to be that person.
They may alter their behavior to appease you while in your presence, but as soon as they are away from you they revert to their natural self.
You can't change other people into becoming something they are not.
It's hard enough changing our own behavior into something we want to be.
Accept them for who they really are and hope they accept you the same.
Trying to change one another into what we think each other should be never works out for the positive.
      In other words...
If your bitch is an out of control slut with no accountability to your sacred relationship commitments, then maybe she isn't the right bitch for you.
Unless you get off on that.
Otherwise get out and network and find someone more compatible to what you expect in a partner.
Maybe I'm way off in my assumption about you.
But there are others who will read this too, and hopefully it will help them to not waste any time trying to change another, or to just accept others for who they really are.
World will be a better place if we all can do that.

We do not have to tweak how we are acting (on screen or real life) out of fear of what is being projected in society. Cosby's vision for how he wanted blacks to be seen is just that, a vision that was sponsored by his own undying suppressed egoistic desires. Lisa was the undying, transparent opposite of him - going against the grain and countering what society projects onto black-identified people. She was doing things the way she wanted to do them and that was killing his vision. If you can do the second one, it shouldn't be that hard to do the first. The issue of class rarely even came up on the show, she was largely just playing her rebellious, strong-willed self. That's probably why Denise did such a good job on the Cosby show, she was herself on it. I always loved the episodes when she was on it. She seemed almost like she wasn't even acting. It came so natural for her to play the part of Denise. That's because she was playing a part not much different than she really was in real life. Sometimes those are the best actors to watch. But even with the fall out of her and Bill, she was still one of my favorite on the show.

She was the icon for the Black community. She was showing us that nothing is perfect but having the parents will always be there for u, no matter what. Now I can understand why she was fired bc of her being late & being high & time was money! But what I dont like how Bill Cosby had to control his "children" to be perfect as their roles. This show is so important to the culture still to this day. Idk too many people who have let the realities of Cosby’s life stop them from still talking positive about The Cosby Show. This still remains my favorite show and the memories and great feelings the show gave me still remain. This show made me see that a Black Family should be represented through all their skin colors because not every family is the same color, I’m talking more so the children that came from both parents instead of other parents. I loved that the show was very positive and included real life circumstances children and teenagers get into as they’re growing up and finding their way. I was a kid watching this and they definitely helped raise me, to be honest. Also, the entire cast influenced me enough to want to be an actor. Denise’s journey on the show as well as Lisa’s real life journey on the show is still such a big combined story for me and her story actually came at the right time. If it were a show of the late 2000s or the 2010s, her story would’ve probably been blown up EXTREMELY to the point where more controversy would occur and who knows, maybe she’d even come forward and fully discuss her thoughts and feelings. Actors were more hush hush back in the 80s and 90s. Overall, I appreciate every single cast member that joined or appeared on this show. They all had a positive part of my upbringing❤️ especially Raven-Symoné, who I ended up following for the remainder of her career ❤️✊🏾

Theo was the stereotypical goofy kid always messing up but never a real problem ever and ever the butt of Bill's one line put downs. That part of the show got predictable and old as hell real fast. Her daughter Zoe was the one who said that she was “disgusted and concerned” and also said her mother “had no prior knowledge and has no comments to make”. Lisa never came out and attacked Cosby if you actually read the article

I always felt that Lisa Bonet wasn’t happy with the Cosby Show. The first season she seem to fit right in, by the second season you could see her mood change, as though she didn’t want to be there. I remember Phylicia Rashad saying in an interview that Lisa Bonet’s Mother who is White only come to the filming on the set maybe twice, while all the other kids parents like Malcolm Jamal’s Parent were very involved on the set, and in their kids career.
I felt like Lisa Bonet was going through a rebellion period, like most teens do.
Although Bill Cosby outside situation harmed his reputation, I still admirer his work. However I do think he was very strict, because according to Carl Payne who played Theo’s friend Cock Roach, he was fired for refusing to cut his hair. So it was obvious that Bill Cosby was very serious about how he wanted his show, the characters, it’s reputation to be, and Bonet did the opposite of that. I was disappointed when she was left out of the show, and wasn’t in the last episode. She still was one of my favorites because she did March to her own drummer.

Her mood changed bcus she was into drugs and those demons she had been battling. When you don t know WHO you are....you look to the wrong people. When she did 't listen and did that crazy movie all because she wanted to be accepted by the main stream. They used her and spit her out! Her career died right after it. She didn't wanna listen to Mr. Cosby or anyone else. She felt she knew better. Where was her mother? She needed someone to check her. The show she despised the most is how people still relate to her....... ungrateful behind.

So let me say this, #1 Denise Huxtable is the FAVORITE child. I don't understand why people are saying she wasn't a good fit, she definitely brought something to the show. In fact, she was so well liked by Cosby and the fans, he gave her her own show. #2 Lisa Bonet was a grown woman, she had the right to get married to the great Lenny Kravitz and give him a beautiful daughter. Bill had control issues, and the problem is once she married a rock star he could no longer control her. #3 the movie and the nude scene, maybe it wasn't the best move, if she signed a contract saying she wouldn't take nude roles I can understand the network having issues with it. That breaks a contractual agreement. #4 once she became pregnant with Zoe cosby was livid! Debbie begged bill for her to stay, and to write the pregnancy in the show. Because contrary to popular belief black women get pregnant every day in college and guess what? They have the baby finish college. I know teen moms with doctorate degrees, so I personally believe that Debbies storyline about Denise becoming pregnant would have been good for the culture because it's relatable. So forget about the perfect image, let's speak facts about the black community and the issues within. #5 let's fast forward to today. Looking at where they both are. Lisa is married to Aquaman, she's gracing the red carpet, she's booking roles again while cosby is in prison. And the fact that she couldn't book a gig until he fell from grace should show you all that he blackballed this woman. Which asked the question, if he loved her so much in the beginning, y end her career the way he did? What was really going on BTN them behind the scenes? Love you Lisa! Keep shining girl!

Very good documentary. I didn't know there was tension between the two. It shows now when I watch reruns. My only beef with the whole situation, and understand where Lisa is coming from; you cant do your own thing on a show you didn't create. The purpose of the show was to portray a black family in a positive lens. You cant deteriorate from that if you agree with the message.... it seems like Lisa's father leaving has something to do with the possibility of her not accepting a black man as a leader. Much respect for Cosby for what he did. Million of black children watched the show wishing they had a family like the one portrayed on tv. Thanks for sharing!
