Hohenheim went east from Xerxes to Xing. Father went west and created an entire country of Amestris.
I love how this anime has the main character pay for being merciful. Usually anime has the main character never kill and it always ends great with no problems. Here it shows that Ed's no killing path is not easy and it does come with a price which makes his decision mean a lot more.
@@lindayaeger6536 well Attack on Titan is a lot more brutal than even FMA. There's also the fact that it is an excellent show, so being worse than AOT isn't too much of a bash
@@lindayaeger6536 "Literally nothing compared" That's hyping up AoT a bit much don't ya think
This is true but him not killing anyone also saves him in the end due to getting help from the Chimeras!
Yeah, in things like Batman him not killing criminals or even letting them die just lets them commit more crime since they don't stay locked up. He always says he's still in the right just because 'killing is bad'. But here, Ed acknowledges that while he certainly sees his philosophy as right, he also can't say it's perfect or anything. That's what Father does, and look where that gets him.
His way of living has downsides, just like any other way of living. It's not the best way to live, it's just how he lives.
trigun has a character(spoilers) who also shows this fact
mercy is rarely the easiest way to live
“If this is what showing mercy is gonna cost me, I’m gonna have to learn to pay the price.”
Will always be my favorite line from Ed. Gotta love how he accepts that his decisions and actions have consequences and yet he sticks to his ideals.
Also, remember the legend of the Western Sage (Hohenheim, went to Xing) and Eastern Sage (Father, built Amestris). Aaron got it.
Actually pretty sure it's the other way around dwarf went west and ed's father went east to xing
Hardcore Gamer Both of you are correct. Hohenheim went east to Xing, thus make him the Western Sage, aka the sage that come from the west.
*High Pitch Voice* "Hold on, Brother!" ^.^
You gotta admit the scene where Ed is injured is extremely well done. Despite him being the title character, I was honestly scared for a moment that he was going to die - when his fringe covered his eye. The suspense was unbelievable.
Especially when Al went down at the same time because of the soul thing. I couldn't help but think oh shit. Did he legit just die? I mean he DID die in the 2003 anime. I figured anything was possible.
@@piccolojunior9820 He didn't die. in 2003 also. 2003 FMA completed with a movie. its canon movie for FMA 2003 .
but i agree. that scene was very well done.
@@being47 he did die Al revived him.
@@ashopp9392 no he didn't, he just temporary lost consciousness. It was never implied he died and Al revived him.
@@being47 you need to watch shows more carefully buddy.
I think you guys might be misunderstanding Alchehestry (at least the combat version of it) a bit. It's more like tapping into Ley Lines. Mystical currents of energy running throughout the surface of the planet, the Dragons Pulse, Mei was using nerves running throughout the body as a metaphor for Dr. Marco.
I think it's also why Alchehestry can be used at long range, because Mei can connect the circle close to her to the circle she made at a distance through the Dragons Pulse.
It's also why Father didn't stop Mei and Scar from being able to transmute when he blocked Ed and Al.
Adding to the above, it is imply that after Xerxes fell... Father went west and become 'Philosopher of the East' by introducing an altered version of Xerxes alchemy to what will become Amestris. While Hohenheim went east, got rescue by Xingese travelers and become 'Sage of the West' by combining Xerxes alchemy with Xingese healing traditions to form what would become Alkahestry. Alkahestry is a merger of 2 culture while Amestris alchemist had a build in weakness that Father can use to switch it off nation wide whenever he likes.
BioCapsule he also weakened alchemy considerably just in case
I'm looking for that obligatory "The author of FMA just had her second child around the time Ed's injury was written and wanted to portray through her character the pain she felt during childbirth" comment.
Uh, I think you're the only one
RayRay Tail I did not fuckin knew that!!! Thanks for the trivia!!
RayRay Tail
😱 that's scary
If this her way of showing the pain of childbirth to people who have/cannot give birth then all I have to say is....Job well done.
The outro music always gets me so hyped with the ending of this episode and already knowing whats to come, the best part of Brotherhood has now officially begun and it'll only get better until the Promised Day finally arrives.
Oh no! I knew this day would come! ERIC! ATE! SHANE!
Lol you guys are gonna have to come clean eventually!
Brendan Horn 10/10 Avatar reference
that's rough buddy...
Brendan Horn lol thank for this comment.
"Get out of the Bison's....er, I mean Eric's mouth, Brendan!"
Alkehestry is basically using thermonuclear energy, 'The Dragon's Pulse' being a mystical way of phrasing it.
Adder's Musical Musings do you mean geothermal energy.
Thermonuclear ?
Actually, the dragon (the serpent) is represented as the reoccurring energy -- and the base energy of all things. Alchemy is described of having 4 base elements: fire, water, earth, and air. Another was brought up called the Ether (Aether) which is supposedly be the medium that the energies traverse in space. They aren't using nuclear heat energy. LOL This shit all has parallels in real life, dude.
I think they are using the ley lines of the earth.
What I LOVE about Fullmetal Alchemist is that so many characters, even if they're side characters like many of the Chimerae, feel so realistic, to the point where them changing sides feels normal and natural, as regular people would do it. Makes ya realize that the writer knew what he was doing, and wrote actual people, not just "human looking creatures that are strictly black or white". Even some of the biggest villains here have so many humane moments, it's difficult to view anyone as 100% evil. Even someone like Kimblee, who showed genuine respect for Winfry's parents. (he'd be more like 90% evil not 100%, hahah)
Kimblee didn't show genuine respect. He only did it to win Winry's trust.
@@shubhamjain931 He didn't, actually. He couldn't care less if she trusted him or not, since he knows she would trust Ed nonetheless.
The reason why he respects her parents is because he "likes" and "respects" people that stick to their convictions. Ed for his "no kill" rule; Winry's parents for trying to save everyone. Which, of course, is why he interfered with Pride taking over Ed's body, because he felt Pride was abandoning his convictions.
Hiromu Arakawa definitely knows what to do with her characters
’Oenheim’ -Aaron
Shimigami - Also Aaron
It hurts.
We should start doing it to him, see how he likes it.
You hear that, *_Ern?_* You are "Ern" now.
Or maybe *Ay-ron* - that's a good one, too.
hehe
for anyone who has difficulty saying it: Howen-Haym
Aaron won't give a fuck... people mispell his name all the time
I was waiting for this. I remember being so scared for Ed way back when, when I read the manga. :D
This arc is always my favorite.
FOR THE NORTH!!
FOR THE ALLIANCEEEEEEEEEEEE
Lol Aaron with the old GTA III reference. Driving a tank, turning the turret to face backwards and keep shooting to build up enough speed to take off like a plane haha Good times.
Except unless you kept moving the mouse, the turret would always turn back and mess up your speed
Okay, *Alkahestry,* in a _possibly inaccurate_ but arguably more understandable way of speaking, not only utilizes and manipulates the flow of energy within the body (the user's or target's), but *essentially treats the planet/everything/whatever like a living body* and thus can transfer energy _through_ it which is how they can perform it from a distance.
*Alchemy* can only affect what's within the transmutation circles so think of it like, uhhh.... a *stove* - it only heats what's directly above its flame, and the gas (or energy) to create the flame/transmutation can be cut off if you don't pay your gas bill... or mess with a very handsome but morally misguided, conceited godlike magic stone man.... so what I'm saying is Father is Entergy (electric/gas company here where I live, dunno what your local provider is to for the joke).
Now think of *Alkahestry* more like... an *air conditioner* - the air comes from the unit (the body) and is then _transferred_ through the *vents* (the "Dragon's Pulse") to distribute it where needed... it's all about directing the flow of air/energy (so like, closing/opening vents, adjusting thermostats, etc.... but like more magic-y like).
(this is kinda rambling so even more of a stretch, probably)
Also like an air conditioner, Alkahestry is more about providing comfort but _can_ be used offensively (like when someone can turns it like way higher or lower than it should be). And kinda like a stove, Alchemy is more about productivity - completing tasks, jobs, and survival, but it's a very dangerous flame to take lightly... when stoves go wrong, things often go _really_ wrong, or don't go at all.
...maybe I should've used water and pipes as the example for Alkahestry... no, that can be shut off, too. Eh, fuck it, I tried.
PS) If any of y'all know Final Fantasy VII, another way to try to explain the concept is comparing it to the Lifestream I guess but without being an actual tangible thing per se... I guess...? Ehhhh...... .................dunno if Alkahestry could stop Meteor.
Mister Musashi Sorry, but could you explain what advantage alchemy has over alkahestry, if any? From what I've seen, alkahestry is just flat out better. It's better at healing, can be used from a distance, and Mei seems to be able to do most basic forms of alchemy with just her simple pentagram array. I guess you need two circles to do it, but that hardly seems like a downside at all.
Do you need to know the chemical makeup like you do with Alchemy?
That's almost the point that the series tries to put across. Alchemy is extremely limited. It's heavily implied that the Alkahestry is what was practiced in Xerxes, since before Hoenheim took it to Xing there was never anything like it. Alchemy on the other hand was designed by Father to be completely under his control. It's explained in the series that Alchemy uses the energy from tectonic movement to power it, however later on in the anime and the manga it's explained that the energy actually comes from the movement of the soul's from Father's philosophers stone travelling through an underground network of pipes. It's how he's able to shut it off, and why it's "weaker" than Alkahestry. He wanted something he could easily control, that wasn't so strong that it could pose a threat. It's why Scar's brother created his reverse transmutation circle: To remove the blocking influence of the pipes and allow Alchemists to tap into the energy that actually comes from tectonic movement. You'll notice that once that happens Alchemy actually becomes much stronger - the things they are able to make are bigger and more defined, and it works faster, because there's more energy to fuel it.
So in its PURE sense, Alchemy may have an advantage in speed or energy input, but at this point in the series Alkahestry is MUCH stronger.
Owen Heim from Xing, and Father from Cyndrill.
to* not from*
Ed: It will probably take a few years of my Lifespan, but I have to use my own Soul as a Philosopher Stone!
*2* *Seconds* *Later*
Chimera Guy: Wow a Philosopher Stone just randomly laying on the ground.
Me: -_-
SylenDraws Ed wouldn't have used it anyways, since he refuses to use a stone for himself.
Rhop What about when they were trapped in Gluttony?
SylenDraws Ling was with Ed, so it wasn't for just himself. That influenced his decision. Besides, using the souls from Envy's stone is what *added* to his reluctance to use a philosopher's stone.
To save someone else he "might" use the stone but for himself, nah.
i do believe his whole stand on using the philosopher stone was that they wont use it to get their bodies back, coz its a result of their own actions or something along those lines, i may be wrong XD
imagine watching anime for studying but your too engrossed to take notes, happens a lot when its really good
Alchemy and Alchehestry basically draw power from the same source: the planet. They explain it differently but its just thermonuclear energy (well more or less). The mayor differences would be that in alchehestry you mix in your own energy or the innate energy of the object while in alchemy you focus on drawing out energy from the planet. This gives them individual properties like making alchemy stronger in terms of force (since the planet obviously has more power then a single human) and making healing far more efficient with alchehestry (since it uses the owners energy instead of trying to convert energy from a different source).
I might remember this wrong but I thought Alchemy using the tectonic energy was the "official" explanation but was in fact a complete lie and they're actually using energy from Father which is why he can immediately stop any Alchemist (if they're not using a philosopher stone at least) at will?
Which incidentally means that any time Ed uses Alchemy without using himself as a source of energy, he's actually using a philosopher stone.
Dragon pulse is chi
Joe B and Chi can be seen as simple energy.
Aesahethr SPOILER!!!!!
Father spread his philosopher stone under ground by using the pipes that we sometimes see stuck to his back. Doing this he made an extra layer that was blocking some of the energy and lets him stop it if he wants to. Everyone from Xin was commenting how something feels wrong in this country and how it feels like a countless number of people is crawling trough the ground. They destroy that layer in the final fight with father making their alchemy stronger.
maciekx10 mystic energy
For the next opening scare: "we're back with the reaction to the trailer of the FMA live action movie"
I have a hard time trying to come up with something other than "impossible" but I really do think they had to take a step back and perhaps try it with a different approach, like CGI, before daring to adapt from manga directly to real actors. They need to understand the atmosphere and how to transition it, and perhaps having to adapt everything at the same time is just too much since there's no good technique to rely on yet.
On the other hand, I never thought I'd live to see an arguably good adaptation like Street Fighter: Assassin's Fist, so maybe there are people out there already who can pull it off.
I'll never get over them calling Central Cendral😂
Owen-Heim. Shimigami.. Good 'ole Eh-Eh-Ron.
I always wondered if what Ed did this episode actually did take a few years off his lifespan or if it had something to do with being the son of a philosopher stone, since we hadn't heard of anyone using their own life force to transmute before.
I think it's because people didn't know that the philosopher's stone uses life force.
So in theory anyone adept in alchemy could trade years off their life to cheat the law of equivalent exchange? I had never thought of it like that, interesting.
Matthew Nash Exactly
Matthew Nash The way I see it, if you can use a philosopher stone that uses human souls to heal yourself in this situation, it's not so farfetched to use your own human soul, shaving off a part of your lifespan, to do the same. It's still following the laws of equivalent exchange imo. I don't really see it as cheating it, since to save yourself, you're sacrificing a part of yourself to do so. There's a give and take.
I guess i meant to say bypass the whole "no matter can be created or destroyed" part. Not that it isnt a fair trade, its just that they established with the fake priest that only a philosopher stone could create matter. Not arguing the premise, it makes sense given what we know about philospher stones that he could do this, just clarifying what I meant before by "cheating"
Father went west to Amestris and created the militarized alchemy, and Hohenheim went East to Xing and created the medical healing alcahestry
One thing I've really come to realize is that I love the battle music. When I watched this younger I was just kind of captivated and watching, but I missed a lot of the details and animation and music.
Take a shot everytime Aaron says "Oenhiem"
"Owenheim"..................
I'm going to assume Edward wasn't thinking clearly from the blood loss here. Otherwise, he would have either thought to quickly check and see if the stone he kicked out of Kimbley's hand was down there somewhere, or at LEAST thought to use alchemy to change the shape of the beam and thin it out so he could remove it FAR more painlessly. Still would have had to patch himself up to stop the blood loss, but it would have beaten the hell out of dragging jagged metal through the inside of his body.
Azure Balmung Well, also look at his unwillingness to use a stone.
Shit, Eric recognized that Edward performed Alchahestry. One way you can differentiate b/t the 2 is the lighting effects. Alchemy - Red sparks while Alchahestry gives off blue ones.
I love Aaron's sense of humor.
cant wait for the reaction to the last episodes
literally!
probably gonna die before that happens
"Could you change the model of your car?"
Just wait an episode or two and you'll see.
0:05 you got me
4:50 My favourite moment of this episode! x'D
I loved the thumbnail
Plural of homunculus is hommunculi, not homunculuses ^^
Father went west and taught alchemy, Hoenheim went to xing and taught alcohestry.
4:49 There's nothing more precious than Eric's laugh.
So Edward is the middle ground between al and his soul/body and when the middle is gone...
Hohenheim. Hoh-en-haim.
Love this so far! Man, it'd be cool if they'd react to more stuff like this- like Fate: Zero!
Heinkal is the best for sure. FMA has the best side characters and power scaling I've ever seen.
Wait, have they done the blind alchemist ova yet? Cause that one is so good!
20:15 I laughed at that lmaoooo
Only 23 weeks left :D Do I wait till the May 13, 2018?^^
Get Ed to a doctor. MARCO. After two chimeras pulled out a POLE-OH.
When does the last Opening (5) start? Just wondering^^
Animega I think 51 or 52. I actually like Opening 4 better though.
Nerdy George Washington thanks. And really?^^ i personally like 4 and 2 the least, but i respect your taste of course :D
11:30 xD
eric drunk every reaction please xD
He's too dangerous to be kept alive!
Noice.
Alkahestry uses "Dragon Veins" not inner energy.
If u think about it that pipe was like a huge syringe!!!
There’s one more OVA...
shhhhhh
PrinceKheldar25 They won't be watching it. Has zero significance in terms of plot, character development or worldbuilding.
PLEASE NO

What is a ova

Homunculae*

We slowly turned BlindWave into an “anime channel” with all the polls lol weebs spreading the weeb
Wise Wolf Tony or boku no pico
Vivek Bose no.... Just no
honestly its better 20 minutes to 10 or 50 minutes to 10.
Alkahestry uses dragon's vein. Edward sold (part of) his soul to do that.
You guys need to watch monogatari series
HOLY SHIT, you guys have to do Dragon Ball Fighterz reations!!! Love you guys
Wait, there's still one OVA left. You've already reacted to #2, #3 and #4 OVA's, but not to the first one. That one is actually a really good one which you have to react to
Watch Psycho Pass
May i ask reaction about maid in abyss?
God damn y'all take forever
Edward completely transforms the outside appearance of a car in order to hide in the manga, I don't know if we get to see this in the anime. It's a shame that they don't give that many details on how alchemy works in the anime, it could have avoided a lot of questions in this series.
Watch teen wolf
Helll nawwww, to the naw naw naw. There are better things for them to watch.
though, lowkey I want them to watch it.
ha
lol Eric ... its called an el camino - butt ugly car/truck lol
