- Supermarkets, bodegas and grocery stores are saying enough is enough, and are joining forces to try and put an end to the surge in shoplifting. But their biggest complaint is repeat offenders, and are demanding tougher penalties for offenders.

they do abandon and the shoplifters just go to the nice areas and continue to do the same thing. I work in an upscale area that is now being targeted by trash humans who go from store to store just robbing them because they know that nothing can be done to them.
It’s amazing how our government spends sooo much money and energy on other countries problems but has completely failed addressing our own societal decline! We’ve spent trillions and continue to spend trillions on everything and everyone else. Yet our own citizens have gotten nothing.

I swear if I am ever in a store and see this happening I will not be able to just stand there and watch it. If the store won’t do something, I will. I know, sounds crazy, but I am fed up.
I work in Customer Service. Don't try to stop them. You don't know what they will do when you stop them. They could be armed or inflict serious injuries on you.

Here in Colombia, it is said that - In Centro market if someone is caught doing this, the person's body is found in Medellin river next day. All stores have formed joint private security group to deal with this, and their members are there in plain clothes watching all the time.

HERE'S A SOLUTION!....Secretly Hire random workers dressed in plain clothes, pay only in cash so you as a business owner are not liable for there actions. When these repeat offenders return and walk outside with the stolen goods, the plain clothes under cover employee pepper sprays or maces them directly in the face, I guarantee they will drop whatever is in there hands, at that time the plain clothes employee disappears and your regular employees recover the stolen items that will be laying on the floor🤷🏾♂️. Actually i might start a security business that does this, pay all cash so there's no way to prove that I'm not a random vigalantee

Just make it legal for shop owners to stop the stealing with force. This robbery would end in a day.
One day, stores will be designed to not allow customers inside. If you want groceries, you either need to pay for delivery, or you go to the store and stand outside while someone does your shopping for you after you prepay on an app. This is the only way to stop it.

Most "security guards" are just untrained minimum-wage employees in uniform to SIMULATE security. Some armed security officers are actually retired or off-duty police officers, but they are there to protect PEOPLE, not things. If a store has Loss Prevention employees, THOSE are the people that deal with theft.

The real problem is that lawyers control our destiny. We all know how this “hands off” the shoplifters started. Defending the lawsuit became more expensive than the loss from stolen goods. Allow the employees to taser the shoplifter while in the act and I’d bet it stops happening.

Some items such as flat screens TVs and other high priced items just do not belong on the sales floor anymore to be stolen. Have 1 model display and place cards next to it people can bring to a sales associate for them to go in the stock room and retrieve it after the person buys it once it has been confirmed that item is in stock.

A GameStop I've been to does that. It doesn't have a physical model example, just a card with a picture of the item, especially if it's new. Similar to how they do high price medicine like allergy pills or the plan b. It's in a room in a security box and given to you after payment

Anyone who enter the store should have their ID checked and held on to until they finish shopping. If they walked out the store not paying give their ID to law enforcement. That will solve the problem.

Bodega owners don't appreciate theft from their own stores, but are happy enough to purchase merchandise which has been shoplifted from other stores. They are a major part of this problem, as they provide outlets for stolen cosmetics, hair care products, and laundry detergent.

My coworker got fired for trying to stop a repeat offender from a grocery store before joining the security company I'm at right now. We're just there to deter and thieves know that. When you call police for a non emergency issue, the respond time is long.

@travisharris9908 the biggest down fall to the American black community is a victimizing mentally, you don’t see Japanese retaliating for being imprisoned during world war 2. Yet the black community will do everything in its power to focus its energy on blaming everyone but themselves. Is society more racist now than in the 1930’s? Blacks have an opportunity to make it out, but y’all culture lives on thinking “making it out the hood” has to come with struggle and crime. Have to “gang bang” to make a living. I think this would be a wonderful opportunity to pause for a moment and give thanks for the great contributions of the Black community to our society.
Their peaceful and generous nature makes them ideal neighbors, lending testimony to their exceptional family values and parenting skills unrivaled by any other culture.
Their commitment to academic excellence enriches our schools and serves as an example to all who hope to achieve prominence as a people.
Real estate values are fueled by the mix of African Americans into an area due to their caring and respectful nature of these communities, an example of all they have achieved through their enthusiasm for self improvement by hard work and a self-reliant can-do nature.
Without their industrious and creative drive, we would be poorer as a nation.

Another problem is the self checkouts. Very bad idea. I have seen at Target people scan 1 item and walk out with wayyyyyy more than they scanned.
This is the reason why stores of all types and kinds CANNOT go to 100% self-checkout machines! You would have to watch every cash scanner and customer to make sure they scan it honestly!
Until we have the right people in power, nothing will change for the better. Only for the worst.

It doesn't work. There are security guards in all the stores now and some of them still had to close down due to rampant shoplifting. I don't know what the solution is but it has to stop. The brazen entitlement is infuriating and these selfish, immoral thugs ruin it all for the rest of us.

We live in an era where If good samaritans stop looters, good samaritans goes to jail and looters get more money from lawsuits🤦♂️

when the shop's insurance companies withdrew insurance coverage for employees if they physically engaged with shoplifters it was a green light for shoplifters to up the game, cancel your insurance and spend the money on armed security guards for private firms, the ones run by gangsters, that's the answer cos calling the cops isn't,
