Houdini tried to get through a buried alive stunt without the coffin - he didn’t make it all the way to the surface, and had to have friends pull him out virtually unconscious. He said he came very close to dying - and that was *without* a coffin. Houdini was also very fit for his age. Having to get out of a coffin and six feet of dirt? No way that’s possible. Digging through 6 feet of dirt with a shovel and standing upright is exhausting enough. Doing it after breaking through a coffin and with limited oxygen and in the dark with dirt pouring on your face? Its absurd to think its possible.
Wouldn't Houdinis attempt actually make this plausible? I admit the coffin part seems not doable but lets say somehow u get through coffin, u actually have space for dirt to go on the way up.
Not sure how you count complete failure as plausible. Many have tried this, 0% success rate. But rescue isn't 100%. That's a hint how not-plausible it is.
Fitch should have hit the sensor without a glove if you wanted accurate values. The glove disperses the force over a greater area and dampens the effect of the strike. If you were in a coffin it would be your knuckles where the force was concentrated onto the wood of the coffin. Punching it with a glove on would stop you being able to split the wood. If you were in that situation you wouldn't care about split skin across your knuckles, you'd care about being able to place precise impacts in the same place and concentrate the force into the smallest possible area.
Fitch also had his knees up which allowed him to brace with his feet which in turn allows for a better/harder connection. I'm not 100% sure if you can do that inside a coffin and by the time I'm in one it'll be to late to check. Just have to take my word for it. 😊 Edit: I think you could probably brace by using your legs against the sides to give you more stability.
Problem with that is you don't want to punch a heavy bag with no gloves, Fitch would worry about breaking his hand especially throwing as hard as he can. Also as a hardcore MMA fan it was funny they used Fitch for this, because although he was a top 3 welterweight at this time (only under GSP at times), his striking was always his worst attribute. He had no punching TKO's, he was a wrestler/submission grappler specialist. It's be like asking Mike Tyson for data on wrestling take downs lol. But I guess he's still going to be a lot better than the show staff.
You can nitpick variables like the force applied by the gloved hit vs the bare hand hit, but I doubt you are describing anything that would make enough of a difference. It's very easy to get caught up on details that like don't matter much, especially given the other problems in the myth. It's important to remember that the punching robot did not have a glove and did not feel pain.
It’s been a few years since I last rewatched Kill Bill, but I always thought that they only dug down to Paula Shultz’s coffin and put the fresh pine one on top for The Bride. I suppose they could have used excavated next to Paula’s coffin, but it really didn’t look like those characters really wanted to put in that much effort. Budd pretty much concluded he already won and he just wanted to break what was left of Beatrice Kiddo’s spirit as she expires
For the bullet-in-fat test they should have tried using hollowpoints, and they should have started with something like a .22. The assertion that any other round they could try would have more penetrating power than a .45 simply because of the .45's low muzzle velocity is pretty questionable. I still don't think the fat would stop it, but it would have been a more reasonable test.

Quite a few survival videos advise to make a makeshift helmet/head-shield with our own shirt before it comes crashing in. They even advise to kick/push the dirt towards your feet as you try to scramble up. Punching through the wood of the coffin would not be a problem for the bride, it's the dirt falling in, but she wouldn't have smashed out a foot square sized hole in on go so could have controlled the speed the dirt fell in by starting with a smaller hole. I do wonder if the cirumstances would be different though, if the dirt was wet and clumped together, as a fresh grave or rainy funeral would provide. 0_o
Jesus drives a dodge
Punching through the wood of the coffin would not be a problem for the bride, it's the dirt falling in, but she wouldn't have smashed out a foot square sized hole in on go so could have controlled the speed the dirt fell in by starting with a smaller hole. The question then becomes could she push that down into the coffin and have room to widen the hole and escape?
Adam is such a horrible shot lol

You look back at these after so many years..and you realise how flawed their tests were..and we took them as gospel 😂😂
regarding the punching power - what am i missing
obviously no one can punch with 7000 lbs - thats almost 3 tons
and the cast generating 600 lbs (270kg) with a 3 inch punch is ridiculous aswell.. 270kg is what a boxer gets with a good hit.
i dont get it.. what am i missing
Grant's force measuring device is likely quite flawed, it doesn't seem to be able to measure force accurately as it reacted weird just to the touch
maybe they set up the sensor or measurements wrong because there's no way those punches were that strong
what about Bruce Lee's 1 inch punch
It's a myth like practically everything about him, he was an actor with no proven fight record, the only video of the 1 inch punch is so staged it's laughable.
Fitch isn’t a striker.
Yeah, he's a wrestler.
I'm sure he trained heavily in striking, but they should have gone with a boxer or kickboxer instead.
Mythbusters and animals, well... Sometimes its hard.
obviously he's perfectly qualified for it but it's still kinda funny to me that they got Jon Fitch, a fighter known for lay-n-pray above all else, as their pro mma guy for punching
