I'm still caught on the fact that he made a giant mechanical wooden semi-automatic shooter, you don't need to load each wood, you just need to pull back & shoot!
Wow, about 25 years ago I was out hunting and I was talking to an old timer. He told me when he was a teen he made his own wooden gun. He used a small amount of some kind of home made gunpowder. When he lit the powder in the touch hole instead of exploding is was just fizzling out the touch hole. So he grabbed a stick and shoved it into the touch hole. Next thing he knew the wooden gun was ripped apart by the force of the deflagration... his hand had the scar to prove it all those decades later. The log splitting in this video kind of reminded me of the story.
The A-Team's tree canon had a much wider internal diameter. Hence way more volume for the gas mix. With a gas seal behind the projectile, reinforcement around the canon and the right mixture, you get the intended result.
No you don’t and if you do you get something that will blow 8 times out of 10, the thickness of the A team’s cannon is far less than what’s needed to sustain an explosion
The reason their propane/oxygen mix didn't send the lumber flying was that the lumber was too heavy and the mixture still managed to leak past it. Even if they managed to seal it, it would most likely still shrapnel the "cannon" rather than send that lumber flying. Remember that a 1 lbs cannon ball is usually being shot from a 1000+ lbs cannon, usually made of bronze or iron. Sure, you can make a cannon out of wood but it will fatigue fast.
They did test a wooden cannon with a proper cannonball (I don’t know the episode number) and it was fairly effective, however almost a one shot weapon. The added friction from the length of the projectile and the lack of any wadding behind it made it basically useless

The exact TV show version of the cannon clearly wouldn't work and is rightly busted. But feel they could have done a few things to improve it. First of all, surely the inner barrel would need to be a lot smoother? Looked pretty rough. Maybe put a ball-bearing underneath for the ammo to roll on? Also their stopper looked a bit flimsy and probably scraped the sides. Perhaps an unconnected wad of cloth would be better, like old muskets? And to explore even further from the original idea, different shaped ammo? Also perhaps reinforce the back part of the trunk-barrel (where the explosion happens) with rope or wire? And seal it airtight, except for the barrel opening, so the gas can only travel one way?
For the log cannon, a main part they missed that might have changed a lot. The log had been scorched. Thus hardening it, but mainly air and gas would not get pulled away by the wood. The chard wood would better channel the gas out of the cannon. Also the car flipped because it was speeding forward and hit another car right after the blast. Even the original version of dynamite actually is fairly stable, used and stored correctly. It IS shock sensitive but the shock needed to set it off is the force equivalent of striking it full force with a sledgehammer or similar. HOWEVER, under less ideal conditions, original type of dynamite can be extremely unstable and volatile to handle since it tends to sweat nitroglycering that dries out and can form crystals. These crystals could detonate by just normal handling by hand, dropping it on the ground, or shaking the container they're in too hard, because the friction between and within the crystals as they get crushed will set them off. Most of the time, however, the NG just seeped out and evaporated in hot and/or moist environments and couldn't blow up at all because there were too little NG left in them. 😆 Worth mentioning is that liquid NG is pretty difficult to set off. You can throw a bottle at a wall and it will only wet it. Hammerstrike or open flame will detonate it for sure, though. Modern dynamite (which I assume they were using here) is very stable. It won't sweat nitroglycerin and you need to apply a helluvalot of force to detonate it kinetically. It too could become slightly more unstable if stored incorrectly and getting really old or really hot, of course, but they wouldn't have that in a show like this. Hence, I'd say they exaggerate the danger a lot and waving the dynamite in his hand like that was perfectly safe. Even if he had accidentally thrown it at the ground nothing could have happened. However, better they make people fearful of handling dynamite rather than giving them a sense of safety about the stuff, saving someone from stupidly blowing themselves up with some old explosives they find in their grandparents' attic. 🤪

About that stechiometry of propane gas: ive got LPG tank in my car, say 50 liters of it. Liquid, but probably high pressure inside too. What would happen if someone would shoot it with a rifle? Would it explode if its almost 100% LPG? What if I would try to empty said tank somewhere outside, lets say on a parking lot. Most forums reccomend extreme caution when you try, as LPG gas is highly energetic and is able to ignite in 600 degree Celsius. But everyone kinda says that not to be responsible if anything bad happens, and what science says about it?
@@Sarah_Gravydog316 I did some research and its a myth that they explode when shot. Unless you use tracer or incendiary ammunition the tank wont explode even from high pressure. Its actually even harder, because sudden change into gas makes massive temperature drop (as when you load the lighter, thats how A/C works too). It will however spray flammable gas and if that gets ignited theres small firestorm, but no explosion.

What if I would try to empty said tank somewhere outside, lets say on a parking lot. Most forums reccomend extreme caution when you try, as LPG gas is highly energetic and is able to ignite in 600 degree Celsius.
But everyone kinda says that not to be responsible if anything bad happens, and what science says about it?
...only one way to find out...
It will however spray flammable gas and if that gets ignited theres small firestorm, but no explosion.
it always was wierd how they used to make episodes on some show nobody ever saw xD , i dont know why
What's missing in the later seasons is the bickering and criticism they give each other's builds and design
This show was my childhood
02:38 BTW, George Peppard smoked three cigarette packs a day and had lung cancer! He died in 1994.
Is it just me or is Adam more like Burgess Meridith's "Penguin" than Hannibal with that cigar?
