For all those fellow flute and woodwind players out there.. if you can not afford a Neumann KM 184, this is the best microphone you can get (provided you use correct positioning). Trust me, I have been there. After buying (and returning some) SM 57/58, Beta 57a, V7, V7x, NT1A, NT1, NT5, Oktava MK012, ... This sounds by far the best on a flute (and probably other woodwinds).
Not usually a drum person but your playing is excellent. Great groove and fantastic taste. The overheads sound phat and so does your drumming. Good job, keep it up.
They are both very close that it would take a sound graph to figure it out who is the best! I have to give credit those Se mics are HIGHLY IMPRESSIVE for their price point but i do hear more stick strikes when playing lightly with the Neumann! I would like to see a comparison between the Lauten LS 120s and The SE's because they are both in the same price point.
Great video. I like the sound of the 184s better - a more defined top end, just seem to fit a little better in the mix. But for the price difference - I don’t like them that much more!!!
Declan any chance you could give some tips for OH placement for live situations? The sound your getting here is incredible, I’d like to try and match that with my current setup. I’m using a matched pair of Samson C02 overheads, but I’m not sure how to place them, how high above the crash cymbals they need be, and if they need to be angled or pointing straight down. Any tips to keep it simple would be much appreciated. Thanks for all the cool shit you post on your channel, us drum guys love it. Cheers fella!
@@declanwhite do you think that km184 will fit for recording a guitar in a Maisonette flat? Its like 100% open for 1.5 floors :D Only parly treated (1 wall with acoustic panels and 3 corners with bass traps). Just read that Km184 also to noisy.... Thanks for any kind of info! :)
The Neumanns are clearly more balanced, which is obvious in the unprocessed recording, but will normally get even clearer when adding EQ and Compression etc. The Se8s are super nice for the price though.
Dude, your drums sound incredible. One of the best sounding I’ve heard on UA-cam. Thanks for the SE8 test.
Snare sounds better with the SEs. Crazy. Thought the Neumanns would be noticeably better but could barely tell the difference.
Everything sounds SO GOOD! 🔥

Black shirt guy or the white shirt guy? Haha or both ?
phenomenal sound as always. you're a master at your craft.
Unless short clips of the exact same part are played back to back, I am hard-pressed to tell the difference. Great drum sound and drumming.
I included a link to the raw files in the description so you can go back and forth on your own accord if needed!

If you used either of these mics and told me it was the other, I would have believed you. Could barely notice any difference when A-B-ing them.
Great tuning, especially the low snare. Like the KM184s more. For me its more accurate with transients. Also better high frequency resolution.
Sounds incredible bro!!! What are the other mics on the rack, snare and kick?
Gran video y sonido! Por los valores, me quedo con los sE8, muy poco que envidiar a los km184. Ninguno de los 2 suenan mal. Saludos
Sounds like KM's have less room reflection mid clappy noise than the SE8's. They sound a bit more mix ready.

How do you processed?
evans hybrid?
what is that tom mic ?
looks like Sure KSM32, its great for toms.
KM184 thicker mids, SE8 less muddy mids.
