The cans are lined with plastic and are toxic when heated. Instead, just pop the lid to a hiss and boil it in the water in a canteen. Heats evenly and is safer plus the food wont burn. Cool reviews as always. Let me know if you want to try an Estonian ration.
One good way to heat on those stoves is to dent the side of the can and put it on unopened, on its side. Turn occasionally and when the dent starts to pop out a bit, wait thirty seconds or so then open
4 year old comment but it's worth mentioning for any future people that see this too, in the Belorussian military, just like the Russian military they are issued and carry 3 piece mess kits still, just like in Soviet times. It's a cooking bowl lid and pan, you wouldn't cook any of these in the can, they would be dropped into the mess kit and stirred, so you would end up with even cooking and no burnt bits. You then would eat from the mess kit instead of a tray.

Belarusian food products in Russia are considered much better than local ones, because in Belarus there are still have Soviet ГОСТ quality standards (ГОсударственные СТандарты or State Standards) that describe the composition and technology of products and the deviation from which is seriously punished if it declared on the package. Therefore, the quality of Belarusian food is much less affected by cheap substitutes for natural ingredients. So, for example, choosing between Russian condensed milk or pate and Belarusian one, more often choose Belarusian. Sorry for Google Translator.

I find it very fascinating to learn about what soldiers eat. Especially how military food is affected by that country's food culture. Thank you for putting outnall these great videos, Steve!
Hey mate. Great review. To answer the question, I would totally like to see a camping MRE review! Would be great to see what you would do and the whole set up.
There really is something satisfying about 24 hour rations. Food for a whole day for a soldier - so it's usually more food than most folks would even eat in a day.
its midnight. i have work in 6hrs, puppy just had surgery and has me stressed, what do i do. kick back and watch steves latest video with a nice fat cigar. its all going to be ok.
To be fair, if you're smoking a cigar properly, the smoke should never go into your lungs. Cigars are about flavour, iirc. You inhale the smoke and simply hold it in your mouth, tasting it, before expelling it.

You are the perfect food description representative of any MRE the way you describe the flavors The Taste the consistency and how your experiencing it is exponential
Steve should be a guest judge on Chopped where the competitors are all veterans and have to cook with MRE components from around the world. (competitor): I'm going to use this processed ham and make an omelette. (Steve): He's making an omelette with the ham. Nice!
Steve your a one of a kind brother. Love hearing you eat and explain how delicious these MREs are. I have to say some of the other channels they pool at their food, and complain on how it’s not basically what their muse too. You my friend you don’t waste a drop of food . You’ve certainly got me into trying different MREs and I sit and watch your videos while I’m eating those MREs . Please come back and continue to do MEEs ? Thanks buddy ❤️🙏
You are the end all, be all of ration reviews. Your intellect and choice of words really shines through with how you describe ingredients and flavors. Were you at some point, or are currently a chef? Anyways, always enjoy watching Steve. You set the bar sir.
Most of that is a generic civilian-grade stuff you can buy at a convenience store; the only thing military about that is the box, paper towels and portable stove. Not that it means much, a sizable portion of Russian (or, indeed, Soviet) ration can be bought at supermarkets as well.
And why wouldn’t they. They should honestly use ad much resources as possible to make it as good ad possible for soldiers. They are risking their lives!
I like how Steve came up with that ominous digital synthesize r 80s type music, something you'd hear on a bad 80s movie. it's so throw back. reminds me of the music from that movie blue thunder or Tron or something.
@@RandolphDuk yea I saw that one too. It was a cordial that looked like a popsicle. That whole mre was very elaborate. My uncle is a retired marine and during training in Italy. He mentioned how the guys would joke with them about not being ready for a sneak attack cause they're too busy setting up mre's😂😂😂😂
I'm from Belarus and what is interesting, you can't buy this ration, but you can buy every peace of it in almost any store. Well, for now, with war and everything anyway. Thank you for your video! I definitely gonna buy some of those "Berezowka-style chicken in sauce", I saw cans in shops, but was suspicious of them earlier.
Excellent video Steve! I always love seeing stuff from the eastern bloc. Kissel' has cornstarch or potato starch in it traditionally. It's basically cooked down fruit juice with starch in it, meant to be drank hot kinda like tea. Very warming and comforting drink. I imagine it'd be pretty good as a morale booster.
i love watching your videos before i sleep. sometimes it makes me hungry again. happy 2018 steve! best wishes from the pacific islands of the philippines. nice!!.👍👍👍
League of Drinkers I was watching past midnight and had to eat a small bowl of spinach soup, a whole wheat bread sandwich with some cold cut meat and a pear or else my stomach wouldn't let me sleep.
That soft bone deal is what you get from a quality French cassoulet or duck confit. They are usually cooked twice - once in the big stew pot, and again in the can at high pressure once the cans have been sealed up. The duck legs still have the bone in them, but usually it is so well cooked that the bone just crumbles when you bite into it. A bit like when you get canned red salmon fillets which also usually have the bones still in them - they are pressure cooked in the can too, so the bone has the consistency of wet chalk. One major advantage of this kind of cooking is that the calcium content of the bones is far more bio-available: The mineral component of bone is calcium phosphate, which your stomach acid reacts with to form calcium chloride, which is very water-soluble so you absorb pretty much all the calcium. A bit like when you take an antacid tablet - these are usually calcium carbonate, which also becomes calcium chloride in your stomach by a similar reaction, so eating antacid tablets is a cheap and effective way of boosting your calcium intake if you need to.
Steve great job, it must be really cool being able to sample military combat rations from all over the world. It's amazing that this small country on the other side of the world that didn't exist when I was a Paratrooper in the mighty Airborne Infantry is able to make an MRE that's appealing to the eye, but also tastes far better then any of the canned U.S. C-rations (except for Chicken or Turkey Boned & Ham and Eggs chopped). In addition the cans don't require a P38 to open them. I have a very funny story that involves British combat ration sausages, a field expedient stove, a German Mann truck, an Iraqi anti tank ditch and an Iraqi land mine. I'm a subscriber, if that helps. its about 0315HRS so I'll type it to you when I find one of your new videos, if you'd like to hear it. Your visuals and descriptions are interesting and very thorough, I enjoyed it very much.Thank you for a unique and very interesting video.
Just one hint heating russian mre in cans over fire: put 1/3 into mess kit or plate before heating, heat other part while mixing it with spoon. In result mix it up and have a nice and warm meal with no "black crispy things". :3
I'm not in the military, but if this ration was dropped for me to survive in some disaster area I would be very pleased. Looks very tasty and seems like the kind of food that keeps you feeling nice and full for a good while!
I remember eating rations out of Russia in the 90's a bunch, and this really really reminds me of those, even the stove is exactly the same (except fuel was separately packaged from the stove)
If you want to make your own Kissel its a cup of water, half cup of sugar, some scoops of potato starch and a fistful or two of crushed strawberry/whatever you want. Its fairly easy to make. boil the water and sugar, add starch, simmer for a bit or two, add fruit and bop. Done. Add some cream or milk if you like. If you think the MRE stuff is good, grandma made stuff will blow you away
I like how you appreciate the food just as you're in combat. I think if you stirred the Beef and buckwheat it wouldn't have burnt on the bottom, although the can was pretty full. love the videos.
I've been here for hours. I have absolutely no interest in militaries or what they eat. I just miss UA-camrs that are genuine, do things because they enjoy it and share with others so they may enjoy it too. I appreciate you Stevo.
This meal reminded me of a scene from the 1984 version of the Razors Edge when British paramedics offered their American counterparts some of their rations. The Americans had some terrible slop while the English had canned shrimp.
I personally like the military survival kit uploads. Wish you had more of those. Oh, and I've got to say your pretty brave on some of the things you choose to eat. Nice vids. 👍
I have been to Belarus and they have some of the best cuisine in eastern Europe. Most of it would make a cardiologist faint too. The dairy products are the best I have ever had.
Seen you do so many now with items like the Kissel and knew you were gonna like it. My polish friend's wife drinks it like a hot soup, but I enjoy it as a chilled Jell-o like dessert.

If you cook it for long enough in a stew or something, you can always eat the bones.
I find it very fascinating to learn about what soldiers eat. Especially how military food is affected by that country's food culture. Thank you for putting outnall these great videos, Steve!
Hey mate. Great review. To answer the question, I would totally like to see a camping MRE review! Would be great to see what you would do and the whole set up.
ive been saying that to this and many tubers who open MRE because its something its intended for and would be cool to see
You're one of my favorite UA-camrs. Nothing but good vibes. Congrats on being at more than half a million subscribers!
Oh that cut at 9:43 makes me happy. I know UA-cam videos aren't really known for quality editing, but I like it.

Nice. I enjoy these 24 hour ration reviews the most.
Mmm, cigars. Like cigarettes, except with double the risk of cancer and infection!
LAIT it’s actually a lot less since you don’t inhale on a cigar but you do on a cigarette
hows the puppy?
To be fair, if you're smoking a cigar properly, the smoke should never go into your lungs. Cigars are about flavour, iirc. You inhale the smoke and simply hold it in your mouth, tasting it, before expelling it.
Austin Manna I'm smoking a cigar here, as well! (Man O War Side Project Little Devil)
Love this guy. Your calming voice is a joy to hear after the massive oversaturation of loud, annoying clickbait bullshit youtube is becoming.
Indeed. "HELLO IT'S ME, SHITLORD! WELCOME TO LOUD SHOUTY LET'S PLAY WITH STUPID OVERREACTIONS TO LITERALLY EVERYTHING. WHY AM I SO DAMN OFFENSIVELY LOUD? WHO KNOWS!??? LOOOOOOOL I AM SO RANDOM. CLICK TO SUBSCRIBE!!!!"
You are the perfect food description representative of any MRE the way you describe the flavors The Taste the consistency and how your experiencing it is exponential
I just love when he says ‘lets get this out on to a tray’ voice all nice and calm
You're the Bob Ross of food. :)
Another happy little ration.
I was thinking the exact same thing.
Oh my goodness I'm crying because it's so true
Oh! Look at that nice crispy ring of flavor
James Tyson72 Well said, James!
He's TheReportOfTheWeek for MREs.
He even looks a bit like Reviewebrah but with muscles and a beard.
Person Lizard ^
The food they hand out for their soldiers is so good and colorful, it's like the belarusian military cares for its soldiers.
As an european, this looks to me like it is some cheap stuff and the american ones look way more optimized for space and weight.
Not so much for their citizens though. It is a totalitarian dictatorship so I'm pretty sure they put more into their military anyways
Timothy Jacobs I feel like scented wipes alone proves how much soldiers matter there
21:01 "HAM!" 😂 love your vids dude, you're so entertaining!
Bartholomew the third, esq. Yessss
Eludiastar I spam rewound that part of the video lool
I like how Steve came up with that ominous digital synthesize r 80s type music, something you'd hear on a bad 80s movie. it's so throw back. reminds me of the music from that movie blue thunder or Tron or something.
Steve's last words before he died of a snake bite. ''NICE HISS!''
The last sound the snake makes as it dies from a Steve bite. :)
KaiserSkippy yes
😂😂😂😂💀
When his body is discovered, someone says, "Let's get onto a tray! Nice!"
When you open the lid of his coffin there must be a nice hiss.
You should make a video about the top 10 dishes you've had in MRE's!! 😊
Good idea 😊
I wonder what one has been his favorite
Hus fav is an italian one that came with a shot of liquor
@@RandolphDuk yea I saw that one too. It was a cordial that looked like a popsicle. That whole mre was very elaborate. My uncle is a retired marine and during training in Italy. He mentioned how the guys would joke with them about not being ready for a sneak attack cause they're too busy setting up mre's😂😂😂😂
oh yea, that's lit.
I looked here specifically for this comment lol

Editing the spoon taps on the cup is perfect
i've been thoroughly enjoying these videos for years good to see this channel is still going strong
"oh yeah, thats lit" nice to see steve using some hip modern lingo.
that HAM closeup...holy hell, my sides
Allejandro Rojas ham
I died at that "haaam" lol
I definitely lol'd :D
"Kisel... its almost like a fruit soup"
Never thought about it that way, but that is pretty accurate description XD
I love these videos!!! Never going back to cable. Thank you for your work.
i love watching your videos before i sleep. sometimes it makes me hungry again. happy 2018 steve!
best wishes from the pacific islands of the philippines.
Steve, have you ever thought about doing a Q & A?
Jack Ash
I'd love to see Steve do a Q & A live stream.
Steve great job, it must be really cool being able to sample military combat rations from
all over the world.
Who else is watching Steve during the Pandemic of 2020?
I am >.>
nightly ritual now lol
Yep
We're on quarantine, and I'm craving for these LOL
fuck youuuuuuuuuu
I'm not in the military, but if this ration was dropped for me to survive in some disaster area I would be very pleased. Looks very tasty and seems like the kind of food that keeps you feeling nice and full for a good while!
I remember eating rations out of Russia in the 90's a bunch, and this really really reminds me of those, even the stove is exactly the same (except fuel was separately packaged from the stove)

@oliver dreyer thanks!!
I give it 8/10
Too much unnecessary fat content
Steve speaks the true meaning to "That's lit."
Kissel me, I'm Irish!
Babushka cooks best.
Are you sure it's a half cup of sugar..? That's alot of sugar, that's more than ghetto koolaid...
Too much sugar bruv but yeah kissel is easy to make and great to have as a pick me up at any time.
I like how you appreciate the food just as you're in combat. I think if you stirred the Beef and buckwheat it wouldn't have burnt on the bottom, although the can was pretty full. love the videos.
Fun way to spend all Sunday, watching a guy eating MREs and give it’s gourmet opinion
"Oh look at that nice crispy ring on the bottom." I admire your positivity, but I think you misspelled "burnt".
Why are this videos so addicting? I an't stop watching it
Hey Steve, hoping your 2018 is doing pretty...
Nice!
Hey XD! It sure is! I hope your 2018 is too! Alright, cool
Steve you just proved you will eat anything. Even chicken bone. Nice!
Great review
I couldn't help myself!
Thanks for checking this one out, Roy! Glad ya liked it
I've been here for hours.
I have absolutely no interest in militaries or what they eat. I just miss UA-camrs that are genuine, do things because they enjoy it and share with others so they may enjoy it too.
I appreciate you Stevo.
I found this channel by accident and I am totally hooked now just binge watching all the old ones 😀 can't wait for a new one 😀
The crunch from the wheat bread is oddly satisfying.
This meal reminded me of a scene from the 1984 version of the Razors Edge when British paramedics offered their American counterparts some of their rations. The Americans had some terrible slop while the English had canned shrimp.
His repeated use "Gourmet" never fails to crack me up.
Someone please tell me where I can buy t shirts that say “let’s get this onto a tray” - Steve1989

Nice
Lmao
Who ever designed this ration must have loved strawberries. Everything is Red.
Andrew-D's Tv like soviet flag!!! 😁
The color red has been shown to increase appetite. When you want soldiers to eat under stressful conditions, every little bit helps.
The dairy products are the best I have ever had.
too bad they are a scum nation who invades others
@@SLAAMIT you're so butthurt, every nation does that, it's completely normal
You should come to Serbia, we have awesome food but your cardiologist would probably commit seppuku.
@burgerMC Nice trolling but no donuts, cops.
@@vincentas1 what a demented take
Steve, could you do your top ten mres?
Seen you do so many now with items like the Kissel and knew you were gonna like it. My polish friend's wife drinks it like a hot soup, but I enjoy it as a chilled Jell-o like dessert.

That will be cool
also one that says "nice hiss"
I watched one video and now I can’t stop
That's awesome
Welcome to the club.
What you want to do is watch several and get the tone of how he works. Then search for Steve and his Vietnam era turkey loaf video. You will thank me later!
At last now I can listen to this while I try to get some sleep.. listened to some old vids last night lol.
Someone call the mental ward, Steve's eating chicken bones again
TheWolfPreys again?
Sitting here eating one of my favorite fresh burrito's from the truck nearby, and these MRE's are sounding just as good with your commentary
