honestly i feel like kyoko and sayaka are often mistaken as being two competely different people, but I think that's the exact opposite, these characters are incredibly similar to one another. There's also yin and yang imagery in an anime scene. Kyoko representing the good in the bad, and sayaka representing the bad in the good. They're both flawed and selfish, Kyoko shows this side to everyone but deep down cares about (some) people, while Sayaka wants to be a selfless hero but deep down feels egoistic because she thinks she's actually doing it just to be loved. They're both alone, they're both selfish in some way, they both regret something they did. Kyoko hates Sayaka because she sees her past self in her and she can't stand her presence, while Sayaka is annoyed at Kyoko because she's insecure and afraid she's going to regret her wish and become as selfish and arrogant as her some day. Kyoko is challenging her values and making her doubt herself. But then they learn to see each other for what they truly are, not just as a mirror of the self that's here just to hate and destroy. Kyoko acts like a mentor to Sayaka, she genuinely doesn't want her to make her same mistake, but in the end Sayaka's company taught her that it's ok to be a fool, that it's human nature to love other people and make mistakes because of it; as she sees Sayaka crumble, she sees her own miserable self, she understands that hating Sayaka because she reminds her of herself is irrational, she has to accept her past and move on; not with hate, but with understanding and love, that love that Sayaka made her remember existing. As much as they hate each other, their encounter made them feel less alone, challenged their assumptions and changed their life. Blue and red, two exact opposites, sure, but it's actually scary how much similar they are. These two girls and their dynamics have been flawlessly written.
Thank you. Sayaka saw her future self in Kyoko ans Kyoko saw her past self in Sayaka. Their similarities drew them and their differences taught each other lessons. Kyoko embracing her so lovingly is also a way of forgiving herself, the self she sees in Sayaka.
Fun fact [contains spoilers from anime]: Kyoko's witch is called Ophelia, and in Shakespeare's story “Hamlet”, Ophelia dies by drowning. In that pic we see Kyoko with a drowning Sayaka, even though Kyoko herself can't swim, she's drowning along with her. Sayaka's witch form is also symbolic of a mermaid....
Mermaids in folklore commonly sing to sailors to try and drag them to the depths, either for their own enjoyment or because it's some good food for them.
Wowaka was the composer and lyricist of the single And I'm Home, which was used as one of the ending theme songs in the 2011 anime series Puella Magi Madoka Magica.
I just figured out now that this is a duet song by their VAs. Also, the one who wrote this song(wowaka) died of heart failure 5 years ago at the age of 31.
I know nobody will see this, but when I was at my lowest point of depression I used to listen to this song on repeat and I remember how it comforted me so much late at night. Something about this is so soft, while it sounds sad the lyrics are overwhelmingly hopeful, and I clung to that so much. I haven't listened to it in years, but listening to it now it brings tears to my eyes, probably partly due to the nostalgia, but even still it comforts me. I still feel the emotions down to my very core. Idk why I wrote this, I think I just wanted to give this song my thanks for comforting me during those dark times and I hope I won't forget about it ever again so it will continue to comfort me forever Thank you to this song, the singers, the anime, and especially the person who uploaded this so it will stay engraved on the internet forever
Let's see... Sayaka's fate is sealed to turn into a witch the moment she became a magical girl. In the possibility where she avoided such end, she'll still be dead either way with the most obvious one is losing to Walpurgisnacht. And when she's not dead, she carried a heavy burden of the truth behind Homucifer. You know what? Dying with Kyoko might be her happiest end
One of my favorite anime of all time. And that duet ED song for those two was such a dirty sucker punch- I love it OH YOU WERE ALREADY CRYING BECAUSE THEY BOTH DIED LIKE THAT?! *WELL HAVE ANOTHER PUNCH IN THE FEELS FOR GOOD MEASURE*
“Even this place where we’ve lost ourselves feels so gentle.” I’ve listened to Wowaka’s music for over a decade now, well into his band work with Hitorie and with songs he made for other people like LiSA and akiakane, and for me I say that this line is one the most heartbreaking lyrics he ever wrote. The quiet acceptance of disappearing from this world, finally being at peace even in death because you’re not alone. It hurts more in the context of Wowaka’s passing.
Man, this songs truly captures the feeling of, it’s over for us, but that means our struggles are over as well. So gloomy yet cheery, a wonderful and bittersweet song. It hits a bit harder since I am a fan of the show and just saw a few weeks ago the whole 12 episodes of Puella Magia Madoka Magica.
Any relationship with Kyosuke would have failed because, as a musical prodigy, his entire life was already predetermined. He had to be devoted only to his music. Everything and everyone else was second. It's also why the injury to his hand was so devastating.

Oh. My. God. I first heard this years ago when I was a massive fan of Madoka, and was also just learning Japanese. Hearing it again now, it was a huge pillar in my Japanese learning, but at the same time Simply an awesome song to feel/translate. The feelings are so raw/intense! It feels like if you don't translate them properly, you're doing them a poor service. So I'm glad to hear the same rendition after so many years. So much nostalgia, so much that sounds absolutely perfect. It's essentially a love song about two people that miss each other and support each other, even if they don't know it, and I honestly don't think there's a single better example than this! I love it more than anything
well, happy Walpurgisnacht ! i'm just watching marathon of oryginal 12 episodes of Madoka - finished episode when Sayaka dies and looking for English cover of this song
The only thing i want is to go home. I want this nightmare to be over, i want to go to another reality and have the feeling of spending the night talking with my friends on discord, i want to have the feeling of having a blast on the Roleplay chat after school, this is the only thing i need to be a little better, this is the only thing i need to feel like...I'm home
Fun fact: This is one of the only songs that made me actually cry. I don’t know why. Maybe the lyrics, the tune, the voice, or the fact that Wowaka died, but goddamn, I’m tearing up! Good song. And rest in peace to Wowaka. Your work will be remembered.
I have a problem. I don't ship them (yes, I'm aware they're in love, but that's not always enough for a relationship to last). I'm not saying what they have isn't special. Quite the opposite, their bond is one that should be protected at all costs... But when I try to imagine them on an actual relationship... I just can't do it. Sayaka is a knight who takes lawful justice seriously and can only see half the glass full (I know she matured, but she was still pretty hostile towards Homura, at the very least she could have considered the fact the Incubators were now under check and arranged some sort of deal, Homura's Labyrinth is based on self-hatred after all). Kyoko is a priest who saw both sides of the divine spectrum and has the freedom to choose how she evolves. Because of that, she has a more neutral outlook on life. And while she does care for her friends and will try to be less selfless for their sake... On her own, she takes a more... practical approach on battle. One that she doesn't see much problem with, given how it was this imperfect world that took her family from her, by forcing her into that wish. She demands both sides of a deal to be either happy or miserable. But one can not have more than the other. It's a matter of earned equality. However, I'm aware how wrong this outlook on their relationship might be, so I need someone to help me believe in this ship.
Regarding Sayaka and Homura, she's just incredibly upset Homura so casually disrupted the new natural order for her obsession to Madoka. Ever saw someone royally fucked something up and you can't help but feel extreme anger towards them? Yeah that's basically it. Back to the main topic, I believe Sayaka has grown past her white knight phase and accepted her flaws (having "selfish" desires). She regrets leaving Kyoko alone, so Madoka granted her another meeting to resolve their feelings for each other. I've only watched the main series + Rebellion so far, so my knowledge is limited to those. So as far as I know, this is the only time Kyoko ever opened herself up to someone else, talking about her backstory etc. While she had a practical view on the whole magical girl thing before, she definitely had a change of heart after the bridge scene. She sees herself within Sayaka, and wants her to live a better life and move past her wish, just like Kyoko had for herself up to that point. At the end of the day, their relationship is platonic, not an easy concept for most people to immediately understand.

Fun fact: This is one of the only songs that made me actually cry. I don’t know why. Maybe the lyrics, the tune, the voice, or the fact that Wowaka died, but goddamn, I’m tearing up! Good song. And rest in peace to Wowaka. Your work will be remembered.

THE LYRICS
Heart broken...
ppl be crying and i be quoting that italian guy: alesbicheeeeeeeee (just joking i love kyosaya one of my fav shipz)
@@ak_norain "Wraith arc" manga, we see Kyoko still maintains some of the old habits.
