There is actually a live off mic performance of this song, that really let's you see how amazing they are, look up "Pentatonix daft punk mix private performance"
You guys should check out their journey on the competition show The Sing Off. It’s where Pentatonix started. The trio (Mitch, Scott, and Kirstie) recruited Avi and Kevin so they could compete on the show. They were so young and were the smallest group competing. It’s crazy to watch because they have all grown and honed their talents so much since the show.
You guys are one of us now. Welcome to world of the Pentaholics. The PTX rabbit hole is long and deep. And while this is one of their most viewed videos and the arrangement that won them their first Grammy, you will be amazed at their versatility. Every arrangement they do will blow your mind. I recommend HALLELUJAH next. It is their most viewed video and it's powerful. Thanks for the reaction, boys. Give us all the Pentatonix you can.
**THERE ARE LITERALLY NO WORDS IN MY ENGLISH VOCABULARY, THAT CAN DESCRIBE THIS GROUP!!!** ❣ I have also come to the conclusion, that Mitch is an Alien, from the planet of WTF 🙃 😊🙃 I truly love how Pentatonix will put their own spin on a song, yet still manage to keep the integrity & respect the original artist.
Welcome to PTX: check out anything from Halleluja, Sound of Silence, Amazing Grace, Bohemian Rhapsody to Havanna... You will not be disappointed, even though daft punk is probably one of their best renditions. The video even won a Grammy.
This a cappella track mashes up the Daft Punk songs "Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger," "One More Time," "Get Lucky," "Digital Love" and "Television Rules the World." The medley won the 2015 Grammy for Best Arrangement, Instrumental or A Cappella. "This was recorded this in a bedroom closet, and filmed it in a kitchen, the song was arranged by Dan Satter, who by that way also did the arrangement for 'Evolution of Michael Jackson" for PTX. The Video was made by FifGen Films which at the time was a young, bootstrapping boutique film company out of Oregon founded by Jimmy Bates and Reilly Zamber, both of whom are just 24. A Fun fact: their first RTX video was done ad hoc on one day's notice on a mutual day off. The main light, a $250 Stellar CFL ring light, it was used both as a key and an in-frame background. This was filmed using an iPad "foggy glass" layer/overlay as a border style template for the multi-window presentation.
I absolutely love this one, and not surprising that they won their first Grammy for it. If you want to see them BEING instruments, check out Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy (if you haven’t already). It won them their second Grammy and is mind blowing
I loved your review guys! I second other's calls for Love Again, Bohemian Rhapsody, and Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairies by Tchaikovsky for which they won their second Grammy!
This was recorded in 2013 in the closet in Avi's (the bass) house. The video was done by them in Avi's kitchen. Those 5 did it all for a total of $400, including contacts and makeup. It got them a Grammy and a contract with RCA. Pentatonix cover of Hallelujah has over six hundred million views. If you hear it you'll know why.
Great reaction guys! please watch their earlier stuff so you get a better idea of where they started to current day. This is one of the earlier ones and their first Grammy win. The band started out on a singing competition call the sing off (no surprise...they won) Kirsten Maldonado, Scott Hoying and Mitch Grassi grew up together in Texas. Scott wanted to be on the sing-off and met Avi Kaplan (the bass extraordinaire the one with the beard). He was found through a friend and was renowned as a talented bass. He'd been at university studying opera among other things. Scott found Kevin on you tube playing a cello and beat boxing at the same time. Kevin has coined it cello boxing. He was pre med at Yale. Avi was with the band 6+ years and in mid 2017 he left on good terms due to the pressures of traveling and his mother had cancer. He now has a solo career with his own great sound and music. He helped the band find his replacement Matt Sallee. You are just beginning. So much great music. They are magical. No instruments aside from themselves and occasionally Kevin will bring in his cello. Please watch Hallelujah (both video and live/Christmas Special 2016). That way you can compare and prepare to be blown away. Imagine(John Lennon cover), Love Again(original) and Bohemian Rhapsody (Queen cover). The PTX fans (Pentaholics) are the best. We look forward to many more excellent reactions. :)
You might like their other dance club song, an original called "Love Again". Some of their popular cover songs would be Hallelujah, Bohemian Rhapsody, Amazing Grace, Mary Did You Know, Havana, Say Something, Shallow, Cheerleader and Can You Feel The Love Tonight. Some of their originals : Sing!, Run To You, Can't Sleep Love. You just missed the season, but they have a gazillion Christmas songs and one even got them a grammy : Dance Of The Sugar Plum Fairy.
Pentatonix is really good. Avi the bass has sung with Home Free. ( Ring of Fire.) It is really cool that they get along and with VoicePlay also. Thanks for your reaction.
Kev and Dave..II am so glad to see another reaction to PTX. Everything is their voices and nothing auto tuned or enhanced. They perform live just as well. They filed this in Avi's closet one night. Brilliant reaction!
Great reaction, guys, one could see you were really into this. I've been looking at PTX reaction videos almost solidly for the last three weeks and even though I've seen the videos dozens of times doing this, they are still fun and amazing. A lot of people will tell you they have won 3 Grammy awards, but what I find awesome is that they were in three different music genres! I hope you enjoy more from this exceptional group.
Love your genuine reactions, and your musical background is invaluable when reviewing covers. Very happy to see there will be more PTX coming. They have such a great vibe, and are helping to keep me sane through this interminable COVID isolation. Thanks for sharing your PTX journey with us!
They've released a BUNCH of albums and videos now, and their next album of all-original material comes out in a couple of weeks. This video is certainly impressive (especially considering it was shot with a budget of 400 USD and won them their first Grammy), but their stuff just keeps getting better and better. You can't watch ANY of their videos without being blown away by something in it!
Now THATS how you do a reaction. No pausing every 15 seconds...thanks mates ! By the by..this was done in a closet and kitchen for $400. Won a grammy for this too
3 Grammys so far, this being their 1st one. Check out their Evolution videos for amazing transitions and arrangements of various artists (Michael Jackson, Beyonce', Rihanna).
Love again is an original that has a similar feel. This arrangement won them and Ben Bram their co arranger their first Grammy! You can't go wrong with PTX.
You could do with going down the rabbit hole of Peter Hollins he is another Accappela artist, and for a change try out 'The Hu' Wolf totem or Song of woman feat. Lzzy Hale from Metal group Halestorm.
Here are my favorites by Pentatonix: Carol of the Bells (Christmas) (14 November 2012) The Wizard of Ahhhs by Todrick Hall ft. Pentatonix (16 July 2013) Daft Punk Medley (4 November 2013 Grammy winner) Mary, Did You Know? (Christmas) (11 November 2014) Hallelujah (Christmas) (21 October 2016) Bohemian Rhapsody (7 April 2017) Matt replaces Avi as bass (22 June 2017) Havana (23 February 2018) The Sound of Silence (15 February 2019) Can you feel the love tonight? (23 August 2019) Blinding Lights (1 July 2020) Dreams (22 July 2020) TYTY ..
try Bohemian Rhapsody, Problem, Can't Hold Us or Imagine for covers or Sing, Can't Sleep Love, Love Again, Happy Now or Be My Eyes for Pentatonix original songs
Just subscribed in hopes of seeing more Pentatonix reactions from you! A couple of suggestions, which I’m sure you’ve already gotten, are “Hallelujah”, “Evolution of Michael Jackson”, “Can’t Hold Us”, & “Bohemian Rhapsody”. They also have originals, one of my favorites being “Sing”. Hope to see more PTX soon!
Hi Betty, thanks for joining 🙏 we have several more PTX reactions already recorded 😉 Bohemian Rhapsody is already available for a small fee over at Patreon 🔥. Not to worry if you decide not to support there though as it'll be releasing on UA-cam in the near future 😉-dave
Thanks to the pandemic seeing them live is not going to happen soon. The next best thing, you should check out their 2016 Popspring performance recorded by/for MTV with top-notch audio and video. Because you get a triple dose of originals along with their excellent 'Evolution of Michael Jackson' medley. 'Cracked' has Scott (tall blond) bluesy soul lead, 'Can't Sleep Love' is just a fun pop song oh yeah and Mitch (high voiced brunette) raps, and last 'Water" is written and led by Kirstin. Link ua-cam.com/video/7GMHqYxpnzk/v-deo.html
They figured out the vocals in a closet and filmed it in the kitchen - plus they won their first Grammy with thus video. They have so many more, keep going down the PTX rabbit hole.
Scott and Mitch perform and record as Superfruit. Besides tons of videos that they recorded live using just a piano, they put out a great album of all original music in 2017called Future Friends. About half is pure fun and other half is a bit more serious but it is all great.
Check out their cover of Imagine Dragons “Radioactive”, which they performed with Lindsey Stirling. Also you should check out Scott and Mitch’s channel, Superfruit. They have some amazing stuff on there, as well.
It's not "a song", it's a "medley"... the musical technical term for "mashup". Not to be confused with "melody", which is the main or dominant line of a song around which harmonies are arranged.
I think they won their first American award for this one, the video cost them $400 which was only a light makeup and a wardrobe, im sure the die hard fans can fill in what I have got wrong lol, but im sure its along these lines You need to check them in The Sing Off where they started this journey
Actually recorded in a closet, filmed in the kitchen of Avi and Kevin's apartment and yes it did win them a Grammy, the category was altered to allow for this to happen:)
By the way, the blue eyes weren't electronic in any way. Just contact lenses. You can see the redness they caused Avi (the bass with the beard). Nothing in this video was faked - it was actually recorded in a bedroom closet and the video was made in the kitchen of the same apartment. The video cost a whopping $400.
You should check out Pentatonix "Evolution of Michael Jackson". It isn't an elaborately produced video, just an amazing one take tour of MJ's whole career in 6 minutes of pure vocal talent.
I saw that y'all reacted to Shallow by Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper - Pentatonix has a cover it and it's AWESOME, you ought to check it out!! Thanks for the PTX reactions guys, you're a lot of fun to watch, and I'll catch every PTX reaction you post!!
Greeting to both of you!! My today's suggestion is a new song called "We Died In 2012", from the French Canadian project named So-Fi: ua-cam.com/video/rFwZcGmzNY0/v-deo.html
A thumbs down for you being bad reactors. Listen first, react afterwards, good reactors do it like that. Plus, try to learn proper English, you will reach a bigger audience.
“try to learn proper English” Bruh, they’re from the UK. I checked your channel description and you’re from a country whose official language is Dutch. Also, English is different in different countries
This was recorded in a closet and filmed in Avi's kitchen. It all cost about 400$ and won them their first Grammy. It's absolutely brillant 👌
Deservedly so so well done.. We love it 👍😊.... Kev
Actual story of the production $400 is only the supplies. Fifgen films did the production it was filmed in Avi and Kevin's kitchen. See pictures.
I swear I see this comment word for word on every reaction to this
Do "Bohemian Rhapsody"!!! You won't believe your ear or eyes. Amazing.
