Hi Lucy, kevs in his 50s as well so you both have something in common ( he won't like me saying that 😅). Really glad you enjoyed our reaction, and we'll have plenty more PTX to come so we'll be seeing you real soon again hopefully 😀👍-dave
The megaphone was just a prop. They didn't use it in the recording and they don't use it when they perform the song live...and it still sounds the same! The couch was an homage to their own early videos which they produced with just the five of them sitting on a couch and singing. The moving couch was a symbol of how far the group has come since the beginning. There's an entertaining behind the scenes video that hilariously shows the problems they had with the couch (it even ran over Kevin the beatboxer at one point!) and the fact they managed to shoot the entire video in one night. The group worked on perfecting this arrangement for five years before finally recording it because they had so much respect for Queen's original. As another commenter pointed out, Brian May really loved this version. The day the video was released, he shared it on all of his social media platforms and in the description boxes he simply typed out "ENJOY!"
Dance of the sugar plum fairy by them is a great one too! A piece of music with no words, covered by a group with no instruments and worthy of their 2nd Grammy!
Heartily recommend listening again! Pentatonix has paid homage to so many aspects of Queen in this iconic song, including the sky-scape to reference Brian May's PhD in Astrophysics and the "couch cuddle" that mirrors one of Queen's album covers. So great to hear a Queen fan reacting to this, and appreciating its respect for the original. How about more of a ballad type next? Their most popular video is Hallelujah... over six hundred million views!
someone made a comment on another Pentatonix Bohemian Rhapsody reaction I can just hear Freddie saying t"that was great darlings" The megaphone is a prop. The couch is an homage to how they started. Brian May knows about the video and from what I understand he put it on his Facebook page. If you haven't done Angelina Jordan arrangement of Bohemian Rhapsody please do that one. Queen gave her their blessing on it and Freddy would have been very proud of it also.
To be able to do a cover of such an iconic song and people be willing to listen, dance along, appreciate the differences etc.. but mostly know you love the original and enjoy it anyway! Yes love this
Great reaction. Thanks. Pentatonix put a lot of time and effort into preparing to make this video to honor the song and the band, Queen. More Pentatonix reactions please.
Its just their voices as the instruments. All the beats, the bass the guitar sounds... all of it. I find them amazing. Please watch Halllelujah the video and also the live version (Christmas Special 2016) Its ethereal and brought tears to my eyes. The live version is just as stunning. Thank you for your reactions!!!
Yes, class and respect. A tribute to an amazing band and amazing performer. So many people have covered BR, it just shows the impact this song has had over generations. You don’t get more impressive than that. 🤗
Guys that was fun!! Like others I love the fact that they remained true to the Queen version and anyone in that age group knows queen and Freddy so huge kudos for PTX that was great. Subbing now
I grew up watching Queen also and I was so glad to see Pentatonix stayed true to the song in it's original greatness and paid tribute to it. I've watched it tons of times and it never gets old.
I saw a comment once where the person believed that Freddie just wanted to write a mini opera and thats how we got this song and I agree Freddie did seem like that kind of entertainer lol 😅
This is one of my top fav covers they’ve done. Just because of how complicated the song is in general, let alone without instruments. Their videos are always amazing.
Haven't even watched yet, but: first! And Bohemian Rhapsody, hot damn. I've enjoyed your past reactions, and I'm looking forward to this one. Edit to add: As good as expected! Particularly got a kick out of your reactions to the guitar solo and the flashlights; those are my favorite bits, and I like how the viewer can tell you really care about the original music and are impressed by this version. Side trivia: From what I understand Mitch can actually do that guitar sound on his own and the megaphone was mostly just a prop. The starry sky was a tribute to Brian May, who liked this video enough to post about it.
U guys are fabulous just fabulous, great reaction to the best vocal group around. they have so many to even to give U one to go next. btw love ur funky dancing
Great reactin guys, you gotta sub. Honestly going forward with PTX I highly recomend you do the "Sing Off" performances 1-13. It gives you thier origin story and some amazing live performances. Much love and keep on keepin on J.
They also have a few of their own songs/videos. Check out Love Again and Aha at the Star Vista in Singapore (live). For more covers, Hallelujah, Can't Hold Us, Thrift Shop, Mary Did You Know, Dance Of The Sugar Plum Fairy. Or the newer stuff (after Avi left) and Matt became the bass singer for the group, like You're A Mean One Mr. Grinch and The Sound Of Silence.
As someone else mentioned, it took years to perfect this. Here's a side by side with the original. ua-cam.com/video/hPonmwPQ9CQ/v-deo.html Whereas PTX usually puts their own twist on covers, this one had to remain as is...with same notes, beat, tempo, etc.
There was some disagreement in the band about doing it. Avi, the bearded bass singer said in interview that they would leave it to Queen. It also was very difficult to pull off acapella particularly for the beatboxer Kevin Olusola, who had just started doing it professionally at the end of 2011. The bass guy Avi was planning to leave the band so they did it just before he announced in May 2017 that he would be leaving in September along with John Lennon's Imagine for reasons that will become clear when you see the performance of that classic as well.
The fastest 6 min. The amount if times I have listened to this song, both Queen and PTX and I have to start at the beginning again because it's half way through ate too numerous to count.
Check out Angelina Jordan's version of "Bohemian rhapsody". Queen liked it so much they posted it on twitter and I believe they even gave her the rights to the song they loved it so much. She preforms it on America's got Talent. Then check out her version of " I put a spell on you" it's in Black and White. Also amazing.
I've listened to this many, many times, and regret that I am deaf in one ear so I don't get the headphone effects that everyone raves about. But I'm lucky I can hear what they are doing...
Here's an odd request: Please treat yourselves to your own choice of PTX performance(s) to react to next, because every one of the hundreds of songs on their channel are excellent!
Looking through your videos, Ptx has done the evolution of Michael Jackson which is live in studio and fantastic when they were a lot younger also they have done shallow, and superfruit, which is Mitch and Scott have done the evolution of lady Gaga on their channel. There are so many greats but those just seemed to cover other versions of things you’ve done. Also the micheal Jackson evolution is almost a must like daft punk.
Loved your reactions! Looking through your videos, I see a lot of Michael Jackson. You may enjoy Pentatonix doing "The Evolution of Michael Jackson." A medley of his songs in a one-take video. It's brilliant.
I'm ancient and enjoyed your reaction! Although . . . did I detect a slight yawn during a Pentatonix performance???! We Pentaholics will let it go this time. LOL
The megaphone is strictly a prop, Mitch has a amazing voice and the guitar solo was only his voice. You do realize the is a cappella group? No instruments.
🧡 Pentatonix. Daft Punk blows compared to this. "Bohemian Rhapsody" - a classic for eternity. I'll fantasize a bit here just for fun to say that if Pentatonix had come along with this before Freddy and the gang, Queen would be doing the cover.
Im 59, i totally loved your reaction!!! Loved Queen, always, Now Pentatonix ! I'll be watching for more:) Waving from Canada

Brian May gave them very positive feedback on this video.
Not surprised really. He's a top bloke and this is a great cover 😀🔥-dave
@@Davesmusicreactions He put it out on his twitter, which is to me HIGH PRAISE
Yes Brian May shared this on his Twitter and Instagram!👏👏👏
Their first truly classic cover which is still played regularly even today. How brilliant was their interpretation? The best ever.
Dance of the sugar plum fairy by them is a great one too! A piece of music with no words, covered by a group with no instruments and worthy of their 2nd Grammy!

When Brian May gives you a awesome response you did a great job! You forget they have no instruments.. amazing ❤️
This...... was UNREAL.
Great reaction. Thanks. Pentatonix put a lot of time and effort into preparing to make this video to honor the song and the band, Queen. More Pentatonix reactions please.

Damn! Freddie would have been proud if this recreation. Great reaction. Genuine.

Brain May did give them his stamp of approval...I’m also sure Freddie is saying “Alright”....Judy D.

PENTATONIX hallelujah next plz. 600 million views. Incredible 👍🍀😁
If we get half that I'll be extremely happy 😂🤣😅-dave
I really think you need to react to the evolution of music by Pentatonix.
They also have a few of their own songs/videos. Check out Love Again and Aha at the Star Vista in Singapore (live). The megaphone is only a prop. He does this live and the megaphone isn't actually used. That's how amazing he is!!!
Try out Home Free featuring Don Mclean doing American Pie. A solid 8minutes+ of superb vocal music.. great reaction today!! Love PTX
if you ever need a suggestion, do aha live in singapore by pentatonix it is amazing!!!
Let them build up to that. Not nice to totally blow their minds right away.
Not yet. They need to get used to being blown away first. THEN Aha! will blow their ear drums!
Just an add when talking about long songs - In A Gadda Da Vida comes to mind 🙂
Oh hell yes!! That would be something! The shortened radio version would suit me just fine
As someone mentioned, a Behind the Scenes video was done for this. Here you go: ua-cam.com/video/Q8ugJnIG_Lk/v-deo.html

Whereas PTX usually puts their own twist on covers, this one had to remain as is...with same notes, beat, tempo, etc.
Please react to their cover of Hallelujah or God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen 😊
If you like upbeat, their original song "Sing" is good. Also Havana cover is like a warm blanket wrapped around you

Great points on the duration complaints of the day era from those that felt they knew best. lol.
But I'm not one to gossip... .

Megaphone Mitch the megaphone was only a prob. In concert he does it with just a microphone!
I've listened to this many, many times, and regret that I am deaf in one ear so I don't get the headphone effects that everyone raves about. But I'm lucky I can hear what they are doing...
Reaction pentatonix "SING"
This is the best version. And I love the version of Angelina Jordan too
Try Avi Kaplan Change on the Rise! I think you'll like it.
Here's an odd request: Please treat yourselves to your own choice of PTX performance(s) to react to next, because every one of the hundreds of songs on their channel are excellent!
Maybe you'd like to react to LOVE AGAIN

It is even better than the original. 😀😀

Say that again! MJ and PTX... In one video 😲 we're sooooo reacting to that 😀👍🔥-dave
