Many people think we are about to enter the end of days, the appearance of the antichrist, and the great tribulation, which will cause may to fall away from the faith, while the rest are tortured and killed
Many of our Evangelical friends and family tell us that there's no reason to worry if you are a true Christian.
Because before the tribulation, the Antichrist and the mark of the beast all the true Christians will be raptured. Caught up in the air with Jesus and taken to heaven. And they will not have to endure any of that.
They say this is what the bible says. But does it really?
Let's take a look, shall we?

      A "short" comment after my _L E N G T H Y_ one below...
*Luke 17* doesn't deal with the rapture of the church. This too is the *2nd coming,* where there's a reference to the "supper of the great God" that will take place at the END of the tribulation.

As someone who grew up in the a Baptist Church, I never knew much about the rapture other than that left behind series that was made, but you did hit the nail on the head when you said it’s an American thing. Because now that you’ve talked about, I don’t think I’ve even heard of non-American Protestants have a pre-tribulation belief in the rapture or at least it doesn’t seem to be widely popular outside of the U.S.
This is why even though I’m glad that Christianity is the dominant religion here, it does sometimes feel like American Evangelical Protestantism is on a whole different stratosphere from even other national Protestantism.
Anyway, I digress. I’m patiently waiting for my confirmation on Easter Vigil. Becoming Catholic has really reinvigorated and opened my Christian faith.

I was absolutely convinced of the rapture for several years, until October of last year. It was very hard for me when I realized I was wrong and that the early christians never taught this. My husband was the one who showed me that this was a ate teaching of the 1800’s that’s become popularized by the Moody Bible College and Dallas seminary. I listened to JD Farag, who I sincerely love because I know how much he cares about God’s people and he gave me a love for the Bible. I used to be in online watchman groups that talked about the rapture every week. Now, I find myself praying that they all become catholic, even though I am not officially catholic either. It’s been very strange and scary to be honest….last year at this time, I was thinking we were all going to fly soon, believed in the ABC’S of salvation and faith alone, scripture alone, etc. Its been crazy. I now pray the rosary, love going to adoration and cried when I realized that the Eucharist is real. Please pray that my husband and I would find our way and find a parish where we can meet friends. He is open to going to mass but he isn’t that interested in the faith at this point. It’s a lonely road. No one in our family is catholic and some are even hostile to it. There’s definitely been ridicule from my mom. She laughs, saying that Catholics don’t read the Bible

I feel your pain. I really do. This weekend my FIL insisted we do him the favor of going to his baptist Bible study, even though we’ve told him no thanks many times before. We attended his service for his sake, especially because he’s grieving and things are hard for him right now. I feel bad for him because he’s frightened, but his control issues are too much. he’s unwilling to have any open dialogue. It’s his way or the highway. He told us that he wishes he could visit us every weekend to ensure we go to church. He made the assumption we don’t go and don’t read our Bibles. He knows we’ve gone to baptist Bible studies in the past so it’s not fair of him. The baptists and evangelicals seem to be the most exhausting from my experience. The other thing I’ve noticed is the hypocrisy of evangelical beliefs. They say all it takes to be saved is to call upon His name and be born again but none of them even believe this because if they did, they’d realize that Catholics are christians. I’m pretty sure he doesn’t believe Catholics are saved. It’s endlessly frustrating that many don’t want to hear the history of what the earliest christians believed. Many refuse so I hear you. Another In law of mine told me I needed to stop learning church history and stick to reading the Bible alone because St Ignatius and the other guys don’t matter. Sorry for the long response. @@Dienekes678 Apostasy is a very Protestant doctrine that gets thrown at the Catholic Church asserting that shortly after the apostles’ time the Church lost its way and fell into error and falsehood. So the Church was no more until Protestantism came 500 years ago (or conveniently whenever a new church came that teaches the Apostacy falsehood like Mormons in the 1820s or the Iglesia ni Cristo about a century later). It is erroneous for Catholics to use this teaching to bash the Pope or Vatican II as this is originally a very anti-Catholic doctrine promoted by Protestants. This doctrine whether used by Protestants or misguided Catholics who are disloyal and disrespectful of the Pope and Vatican II is false and flawed as it directly goes against Jesus’s promise in the Bible that in the Holy Spirit he’ll always be present leading and guiding the Church through the Pope and the magisterium unto the light of truth until the fullness of time. @notacreativehandle That is incorrect, as you will see in this passage from the Catechism of Trent:
"Those who may administer baptism, in case of necessity, but without its solemn ceremonies, hold the third and last place; and in this class are included all, even the laity, men and women, to whatever sect they may belong. This power extends, in case of necessity, even to Jews, infidels, and heretics; provided, however, they intend to do what the Catholic Church does in that act of her ministry. Already established by the decrees of the ancient Fathers and Councils, these things have been again confirmed by the Council of Trent, which denounces anathema against those who presume to say, " that baptism, even when administered by heretics, in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost, with the intention of doing what the Church does, is not true baptism."

As for the Sacrament of Confirmation, Acts 8:14-17, 9:17, 19:6; and Hebrews 6:2 speak of the laying on of hands for the purpose of bestowing the Holy Spirit. And before you say "any Christian can do that," remember, Simon Magus attempted to buy that privilege from St Peter, something he would not even consider if just anyone could do it. You must receive the sacrament from a successor to the Apostles (a bishop) or one of the men to who he delegates authority to do so (a priest). There are three sacraments which impress a sacramental character on the soul which can never be removed - Baptism, which makes one a member of God's family; Confirmation, which makes one a soldier in His army; and Holy Orders, which makes one an officer in said army.

There is no literal thousand year reign. It's simply a large and indeterminate number and refers to the Church Age, which we are currently living in (now running at over 2,000 years and counting). A bit like when God says he owns the cattle on a thousand hills - it's not literally a thousand hills. He means he owns all the cattle, a large and indeterminate number. There is also no gap between Christ's Second Coming (clue in the words 'second-coming"!) and the Last Judgement (Matthew 16:27).

The rapture was invented in the 1800's. 1. Thees. 4:15 is about the Second Coming.
Why does it say 'The dead in Christ will rise FIRST. It should only say "The dead in Christ will rise. By saying the dead in Christ will rise first is what is going to happen at the Second Coming. Also where it says the Lord himself will come down from heaven with a cry of command, with the Archangel's call, and with the sound of the trumpet of God, this is what happens at the Second Coming.
This Scripture is not hard to understand. Why are people so foolish they cant interpret this properly..
The devil is laughing at you.

Rapture happens FIRST. Its clearly in the Bible. Paul spoke of it in Thessalonians stating the restrainer(the church) must be removed before the lawless one can be revealed & Jesus spoke of it in the book of Matthew stating for us to hope we count ourselves worthy so we can stand before the son of man and escape the wrath that will come upon the earth, so no the pre tribulation rapture is NOT a new doctrine and was taught way before John Darby in the 1800s. If anyone tries to tell u different, they are lying & do not know the word of God so rebuke that person...

      2nd thessalonians 2:5-7
Don’t you remember that when I was with you I used to tell you these things? And now you know what is holding him back, so that he may be revealed at the proper time. For the secret power of lawlessness is already at work; but the ONE who now holds it back will continue to do so till HE is taken out of the way.
The restrainer is an individual, not the church. Traditionally thought to be the Roman Emperor. So probably the Pope, or the future Catholic Monarch.
I believe you are refering to Luke 21:36
Watch therefore, and pray always that you may be counted worthy to escape all these things that will come to pass, and to stand before the Son of Man."
Lets put this in context by reading a few verses before it.
      Luke 20:20
20 “When you see Jerusalem being surrounded by armies, you will know that its desolation is near. 21 Then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains, let those in the city get out, and let those in the country not enter the city. 22 For this is the time of punishment in fulfillment of all that has been written.
This is the " escape these things" not the rapture.
You have to read the whole bible not pieces here and there.
Literally nobody believed in the pre-trib Rapture before the 1800's.
The burden of proof is on you to show that they did. Read the early church fathers they never said anything like a pretribulation Rapture

@@imisschristendom5293 let's just agree to disagree. We both see the same scripture but get two different meanings. To me they are clear scriptures referring to the pre tribulation rapture, to you they mean post tribulation. Think we can both agree the only thing that matters is that Jesus is Lord for us both. But to your comment that I need to read the whole Bible, I have read the whole Bible, took 2.5mo to do it. After my wife passed away, I had to learn about Jesus, who my wife absolutely loved. After I started reading I couldn't put it down, I had to get more and more of GOD. I gave my life to Christ and best decision I ever made. I believe the restrainer is the Holy Spirit and his church, and that we are not appointed to wrath. Even Lot and his family was taken out of Sodom before the destruction, Noah was sealed in the ark and raised above the waters before the flood and destruction. Its clearly seen that God's ppl are taken out of the way before destruction comes. Now it's your burden to prove otherwise that God's ppl won't be taken out before destruction. Its ok we both disagree, lol we both have Jesus as Lord and in the end that's all that matters my brother in Christ ..

We can agree to disagree. But im sorry the burden of proof is not on me to disprove the pretribulation Rapture.
You say its in the bible but as I showed the bible clearly says its after the tribulation.
No one believed this before the 1800s sorry but you have the burden of proof
Heres more food for thought. You say the restrainer is the holy spirit. The text says that Paul told the Thessalonians who it was, and they know who it is because he told them. But he didnt write it down. Who the restrainer is is not in scripture. Thats oral tradition, which we are to adhere to as Paul says in the same letter.
      2nd Corinthians 2:15
Hold firm to the TRADITIONS you've recieved from us whether by word of mouth or by letter.
Where do you think you will find the oral teaching that was passed down?
The only church that been there from the beginning. The Catholic Church.
And guess what. The restrainer is the Roman Emperor. Thats what was passed down.
You see scripture alone a a heresy. Not everything is in scripture and this verse proves it.

@@imisschristendom5293*Edit=Formatting* I'll weigh in briefly if I may...
An 8 second query will refute the false claim that the position was unheard of prior to the *1800's,* so I won't bother to waste the space here unless you want to delve into it further. If so, let me know, but a/way...
When you suggest/encourage to look at CONTEXT, actually if you were you to do so, you would find in short order that the passages you bring up do NOT support a post/pre-wrath/mid-trib rapture which only leaves us with the PRE-trib rapture. Let's take a "for instance", shall we?
*1st* off, when we find the title "Son of man" being used, it speaks of the OT passages that speak of the 2nd coming when He comes in judgment. The text itself bears this out; "desolation therof is nigh...days of vengeance...great distress" This is how the Jews would have u/stood what was being said. This is a CLEAR distinction from Jesus being the "Christ" & what's represented with that title.
*2ndly,* "...when ye see these things come to pass, know ye that the kingdom of God is nigh at hand." *Luke 21:31* The text is dealing with the coming KINGDOM, & that kingdom will be here on earth. So if you're placing the CHURCH here on earth during this time (the tribulation), you have to provide a *WHY* we would even be here. I don't think there's even one passage, let alone one VERSE that gives us that, but there are M U L T I P L E passages that give us both the *PURPOSE* for the tribulation, and also the *PEOPLE* it's aimed at, & not a one of them includes us, & _PTL!_
I would hope you're not lobbying for some final "TEST" of our love for Him, or some need for additional purging to "ready" us for glory, for that would be some unbiblical form of purgatory here on earth. *Luke 21:36* says, "Pray always, that ye may be accounted worth to escape all these things", yet we're ALREADY made worth by the blood that was shed on Calvary; *===>* "For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him." *II Cor **5:21*
*Furthermore,* the passage in Luke & the parallel in *Matt 24* makes mention of being concerned about all of this happening on the SABBATH which is of no matter to the church, & of course there's the mention of those in Judaea to flee. What's of REAL significance, is that the message that will sound during this time is the gospel of the KINGDOM. This is not the message we're to proclaim. Ours is the death, the burial, & the resurrection of Jesus, the Christ!
*Lastly* I'll say this, that if Christ were to return to earth @ the end of the tribulation w/o removing the church PRIOR to that time, you're scrubbing HEAVEN from the believer's future. For when He comes, He remains here on earth for the millennium. Heaven is not just the hope for believers, but it's where the Bema & also the marriage to the Lamb take place. Keep in mind, in *John 14:3* it's clear that the rapture is an event where we go to where Christ is...He doesn't come to where we are, so that verse gets turned on its head with a "POST" position.
I see I've been too long as it is. Just got home from work, having got up at 2:15am, so needless to say I'm WHOOPED~:) All the best to you in your search for truth, & *MARANATHA!*
