In most cases, probably yes, although its not a statistically proven fact. But in situations, where even the slightest of emotional investment could result in tragedy and death (for example neurosurgery or spinalsurgery), its strictly forbidden and decreases performance
My son has a pediatrician years ago that was in a wheelchair. We adored him, he listened, to me, (I have a physical disability.) He encouraged my son to explain what was going on with him and what he needed, instead of having some adult talk over him. And when someone called DCFS because they didn't think a single mother with a physical disability could take care of a child, he defended me. It meant the world to me.

I take my hat off to these doctors. Why should a disability stop you from doing something that you want. I can relate to all of these doctors. I too have a disability. I was born with a speech impediment and I suspect that I may also be Autistic. Right throughout my school years all of my teachers told me that I was dumb and stupid, and just give up. They told me that I will never be able to go to university, as that was a place for the highly intelligent which according to them I wasn't. Ever since I was very young I dreamed of going to university. I LOVE forensic science. I at the end of my school years gave up my dream to go into university, as I believed that I was to dumb. Now years later, my dream came back to me, as I discovered that I was extremely gifted in psychology. And now I am going through university a place which I was told that I would never go to, and yet here I am, and I am flourishing. I really enjoy psychology, and in particular Neuro Psychology which to me is a peace of cake, and yet my peers all struggle in that subject. Hech, in one of the presentations, I actually got told to dumb things down as it was at a level of either a Masters or PhD student and not a bachelors degree. I hated dumbing it down to me it wasn't answering the question, but I reluctantly did so. My group was one point shy of getting a perfect score for that presentation, and it was all thanks to me. I know this because the teacher asked us, "Could this patient have another form of dementia other the Wrenkler Kosicove syndrome?" I answered the question, "I said yes." And I explained that it could be vascular dementia, as both diseases effect the blood vessels within the brain. The patient smoke marijuana in his youth, and abused alcohol. I made the entire class including the teacher to drop their mouths, they couldn't believe in how much I knew of these disease, and the general roots for them. All of this from an idiot. I hope to one day become a doctor in forensic neuro psychology.

In most cases, probably yes, although its not a statistically proven fact. But in situations, where even the slightest of emotional investment could result in tragedy and death (for example neurosurgery or spinalsurgery), its strictly forbidden and decreases performance
it makes them better news givers, not "doctors". A great doctor is someone who can identify the problem.
That's a very big claim that I can guarantee has no empirical evidence behind it.
no way, sociopaths make great surgeons. because they dont have any emotional attachment to you
Physicians with "disabilities" have an advantage over other doctors due to their genuine ability to empathize with their patients.
This made no sense.
We should break every doctor's legs
you have no idea what you are saying
Depends on the situation. Emotions have no place in the operatingroom. In fact, every deep emotional investment isnt a great idea to say the least
Disabled nurses such as myself agree. Empathy is part of compassionate Care and our system of healthcare needs more of it.
