  • Hey guys! I have a good one today. This 2009 Chevrolet Malibu 3.6 V6 has an intermittent no crank no start problem. The car starts fine in the morning and after sitting for a few hours, but does not start when the engine is warmed up. I show you how I found the problem inside the ubec fuse box and how to fix it without having to replace it. Thank you for watching!

I've never seen this kind of detailed look at a fuse box, bravo! Lesser men would have simply replaced the whole box.

You mean lesser men wouldn’t have wasted any time trying figure out what went wrong inside the box and just replaced the box after the proper diagnosis?

I like the idea of saving the customer some money but the guy who replaces the whole fuse box is not a lesser man. Kieth Defazio would have replaced the box after 5 minutes of diagnosis because of his work environment, he's gotta do 20 cars a day. You gotta remember different techs are under different pressures. Not trying to be an ass, just sharing my thoughts.

@@ADVANCEDLEVELAUTO Good video . Good information . I have re-soldered many gauge clusters and repaired way to many fuse panels in the 2004 to 2008 F-150,s that are located in the passenger kick panels . I purchased a kit of relay testers brand name Service Tools part number 56810 . This kit is a time saver !!

    Wow! Wow! Wow! Wow!
This was my two year long problem! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!
Ours was in same place also!!! Worked during colder weather. Acted worse in hotter weather. Watched every video I could find on 2010 Malibu for two years! Then two days ago punched in Chevy Mal and this video popped up! When I saw video title and fuse board I
Looked at my wife and said this is it! This is the fix! We hadn't even watched video yet! We watched video then I went straight out and took apart fuse box (had to drill it apart), tested with meter (FINE!) THROWED HEAT GUN TO IT, tested again then saw crack (SAME EXACT PLACE IN THAT BEND). SOLDERED wire back together ,had to pry wire up out of plastic, slid two nails under wire to hold up off of plastic so not to melt board. TWO YEAR PROBLEM FIXED!!!
I just wanted to thank you so much! No one knew how to fix this!
I could push and wiggle fuse box and the car would start some times. I had pulled apart fuse box but never that far apart having to drill out bolt sleeves. But even if I had ,I wouldn't have found the problem with the wire! Because the situation with the heat shrinkage. Wow thank you!
I put in new starter, new fuses, switched relays.
Then one wire so small could be such a monster problem!!!!!!
    Thank you again!!!!!!!
And I'm talking a lot of time involved trying to fix this!! So many times you think man I got it fixed!
Then you're stuck at a gas station or a restaurant!!!
Just can't let you know how much we appreciate your video and time!!!

Thank you so much for your help! This was our exact problem. My husband found the crack in the circuit wire right where you showed and we’ve had no problem starting our car in the hot Texas sun since! We took the fuse box/circuit board out just like he did in this video. Used a hair dryer to heat it up, although when we took it out, it was already pretty hot from sitting in the sun. Then at 9:30 minutes in on this video, he shows a tiny break in the copper wire. We had a break in the exact same spot. We used a magnifying glass. My husband put a little solder on the wire to fix the break and reconnect the circuit. Our car started fine after that even when it was super hot out. Good luck! Hope you’re able to fix your car too.@@memelove8608

2009 Chevy Malibu LTZ 3.6L - Same exact issue. Replaced Starter Relay and Starter/Solenoid, same issue... no crank when warm. While investigating, discovered previous tech ran a jumper ground from Starter Relay to frame ground - which is not a good idea. Applied slight pressure to underhood fuse panel with fuse panel cover removed while warm... cranked and started fine. Thanks to your video, ordering the GM replacement Junction Block - GM part # (20822701). Thanks for the detailed information... You would think this would be a standard GM recall, as many are experiencing this exact same issue. Is General Motors listening?

    • @jacobclark89
      @jacobclark89 2 місяці тому

@@MrKingmickey77 make sure your battery has a good charge , good battery terminals, good ground. If the security system lite is on than watch some videos on that. If you have codes then I guess you have power to the ECU , test fuses and swap the starter relay , and then what I would do is pop the cover off the starter relay gently reinstall you might want to disconnect the battery, the relay can be cycled with slight side pressure to make sure the starter is working properly and if the starter turns over the engine then I would consider replacing the fuse box or do some testing to narrow down were the problem is coming from. some reasons I've seen for a no turnover condition, bad ground ,bad relay, no power from ECU , and the security system

Great video man I was wondering since I drilled the bolts I was wondering the best way to get my fuse box to stay together again

    • @TabiFL

Yeah I thought about this too I know this is my issue after checking everything and replacing the starter and battery…but I have so many questions like what material was used to solder it to make sure it’s compatible with the copper wire and won’t heat up to nothing, is it just a dot or enough to go over to each side to make sure there’s a good connection, how do I get the fuse box back together 😩 if you figure it out please come back and help a girl out!!!

The bolts that you drilled the sleeve out on will hold everything back together just fine. I don't went through and soldered all the wiring on mine and it fixed my issue too. I couldn't find one particular crack even with heat but I had to of been there. I know your post is old but figured I'd comment to maybe help someone else

Car starts great durning cold weather once it gets alittle warm outside and running it all day problem comes back. Thank you in advance.
