"Of all the people I've played with, the most stimulating in an onstage situation was Freddie King. He could be pretty mean but subtle with it. He'd make you feel at home and then tear you to pieces... He taught me just about everything I needed to know... when and when not to make a stand... when and when not to show your hand. . . and most important of all... how to make love to a guitar." - Eric Clapton
I have said this fir ages. When an interview with Eric mentioning King's influence, I had more respect for Eric as a human being . Eric finally found his own voice, but early recordings you can hear Freddie's playing
2quuander another jealous EC hater! Just because EC is the most revered, imitated and influential player of his generation along with becoming tremendously wealthy and famous is no reason for you to feel bad that he's everything your not! I love FK , and he is an originator and phenomenal player, but EC took his songs to a whole new level. EC playing is far superior and vocals are great. Go watch EC from around this time period in Martin Scorcese documentary Nothing but the blues and his from the cradle shows from that period. It is the finest display of blues playing and vocals ever laid down.
22 people didn't like this?..the mighty Freddie King..I can't for the life of me can't think of what there is not to like...fabulous singer .player great band and lovely dancers..man..the frigging best
Thank you for writing that for me to read. Mark Farner & GFR are of my my favorite band's/musician's of ALL time and to think the King of ALL Kings was an opening act for astonishes me. Bet that was a very special moment in your memory. Cherish it for me. I thankfully got to see Mark Farner perform some years ago but unfortunately his security were a bunch of pansies. Had all my GFR 12" LP Records, damm near their entire discography in hand to which very sadly didn't even get let meet & greet them dealt with a bunch of mindless old cretins telling me things like I "don't even know who Grand Funk Rairoad were" & right after a another follow up comment regarding to my GRF collection to which I pulled out my "We're An American Band" the inner golden vinyl. Needless to say, they were flabbergasted into silence after I home schooled them decades after the musics height of popularity. I also had my own audience during Mark's stage set watching me . Guess that headbanging my long locks around within seated area really trips old people out
Freddie King was a wonderful musician. And he had a lot of influence on great's like Jimmie Vaughn and Stevie Ray Vaughan. He sang and played with all his soul.
Caught him several times in NE Texas. Got his 61 Album Lets Hideaway etc. when it first came out and learned all I could from it...very influential here in Texas. He appeared in our small town lots of times...heard him live from my backyard once. EC owes him a lot.
I'm tore down, I'm almost level with the ground. I'm tore down, I'm almost level with the ground. Well, I feel like this when my baby can't be found. I went to the river to jump in. My baby showed up and said, "I will tell you when." Well, I'm tore down, I'm almost level with the ground. Well, I feel like this when my baby can't be found. I love you babe with all my heart and soul; Love like mine will never grow old. Love you in the morning and in the evening too. Every time you leave me I get mad with you. I'm tore down, I'm almost level with the ground. I'm tore down, I'm almost level with the ground. Well, I feel like this when my baby can't be found. I love you baby with all my might; Love like mine is out of sight. I'll lie for you if you want me to. I really don't believe that your love is true. I'm tore down, I'm almost level with the ground. Well, I'm tore down, I'm almost level with the ground. Well, I feel like this when my baby can't be found.
I saw that show in Roosevelt Stadium in Jersey City, NJ. Clapton was way too fucked up to play and FK came onstage to not only steal the show but also saved Eric’s ass.
God in Heaven how I love this show and every musician, performer, host, the idea behind it, what it meant to community and LOVE above all else. LOVE must reign supreme! And if this isn't love then nothing is!
There's just something about discovering new beautiful songs. I've always heard the live version of King playing Sweet Home Chicago and blues/blues rock/boogie woogie/jump blues has always been a one of few guilty pleasures of mine being a metalhead. King makes the guitar come alive and I had to hear this song a couple of times after first hearing it because it's that good. God bless Freddie King and music streaming!
Freddie pretended to be a musician, but he was really a magician with a supendous set of skills. Could carry that blues beat like few others. Sorely missed; left us long before his time.
Wonderful old track. Wonderful old 78 too! From America's greatest ever recording company. The label that changed the world. A massive cultural asset for the U.S.A. abroad, even today.

I saw Freddie King as a warm-up band for Grand Funk Railroad at New York's Nassau Coliseum the audience didn't appreciate Freddy's greatness nor did I we were all more focused on the popular Grand Funk shame
Nice - It's amazing how they flip flopped the stage and dancers around a few times starting at 1:27 - 1:50. Must of had some really good roadies back then!
Bill Allen (aka "Hossman" or "Hoss"; born William Trousdale Allen III, December 3, 1922 - February 25, 1997) was an American radio disc jockey who attained fame from the 1950s through the 1990s for playing rhythm and blues and black gospel music on Nashville radio station WLAC.
Was that Big Hoss introducing him...................sounds like his voice. That is an important voice to this music reaching people who would never have learned about it.
That's a young Billy Cox pumpin on bass & in fact, I could be wrong but this looks like the same 'house band' backing Barbara Lynn on her appearance on this show.
The 20 people who gave this a thumbs down either have no souls in their body...or they're Russian troll bots, or both! How can you not enjoy this?!?!!!
He was a giant. Musically and physically! Also I love the setup, including the girls in the front. What a master of the guitar he was.
wow , if dat don’t get ya off , use dead !
I agree. This man seemed to pour himself into the music.
How good is this? I can't believe this. A very young Freddie King.
damn, they don't make em like this anymore. what a shame that music like this is almost forgotten.

Mark Joel perfection? We only pray it isn't so... But sounds so GREAT doing it to it.
Nice
AMEN BRO!!!
Thanks for this input my good man
There would have been no Eric Clapton as we know without Freddie King.
Yes, Freddie King, BB King, Albert King, Burger King, King James.
No Eric? Let me dream just for a while...

Freddie King is just bad ass and this is him at his prime I just loved Freddie King
This video is priceless since it is a snapshot in time. Viva the memory and music of Freddie King!
I use to see Freddie King at the Armadillo World Headquarters in Austin Texas 2 or 3 times a year, great artist RIP Freddie
I remember watching The Beat when I was a teenager in Mississippi. We were always glad when Freddie King was on there.
Saw him open up for Grand Funk in the 70's, he was great, but underappreciated by most of the crowd, but not by Grand Funk! R.I.P. Freddie.
They mention him by name in one of their songs.

Saw him blow Clapton's doors off back in 74. Noone tops Freddie for raw emotion!
I saw that show in Roosevelt Stadium in Jersey City, NJ. Clapton was way too fucked up to play and FK came onstage to not only steal the show but also saved Eric’s ass.
Clapton would agree with you.
God in Heaven how I love this show and every musician, performer, host, the idea behind it, what it meant to community and LOVE above all else. LOVE must reign supreme! And if this isn't love then nothing is!

Absolutely majestic.
one of the masters we have all learned from. on a side note, excellent bouncing going on behind him.
Freddie pretended to be a musician, but he was really a magician with a supendous set of skills. Could carry that blues beat like few others. Sorely missed; left us long before his time.

Magic, isn't it? Such a great singer too.
one of the kings of the blues. name is fitting, awesome awesome guitar player and singer
JongThrill I wouldn't call it not cranked
What? Them tubes are warm I guarantee it. There is not much breakup but you can hear some in the upper registers.
You don’t need any of that shit,I always wonder why any guitar player needs any of that stuff for
my feelgood blues tune, so hot and in the pocket. Freddie was sweet and ferocious.
I saw Freddie King as a warm-up band for Grand Funk Railroad at New York's Nassau Coliseum the audience didn't appreciate Freddy's greatness nor did I we were all more focused on the popular Grand Funk shame
Johnny Winter played backup for Freddy in Austin as regulars.. Staggering! Then came SRV! Austin is the Breeding ground for the Blues!
@@mmallay A young Dusty Hill played bass for Freddie for awhile.
Freddie had just as much influence on rock and roll as Chuck Berry.
I wish I could like this 1 million times!
Classic!
Wow! Just WOW!!!
I saw him open for Santana in 1973. Santana of course was great, but Freddy tore it up !!
Nice! 💘
In the 60's my mom dressed and danced and wore her hair just like his back up singers...
Real music.
This song just gets me hoppin'
Nice - It's amazing how they flip flopped the stage and dancers around a few times starting at 1:27 - 1:50. Must of had some really good roadies back then!
Good spot. Also how Freddie goes from being a regular right handed player to a lefty in the same shots... That's genius guitar playing right there :)
