- lyrics:
How many more years, have I got to let you dog me around
How many more years, have I got to let you dog me around
I'd soon rather be dead, sleeping six feet in the ground
I'm gonna fall on my knees, I'm gonna raise up my right hand
I'm gonna fall on my knees, I'm gonna raise up my right hand
Say I'd feel much better darling, if you'd just only understand
I'm going upstairs, I'm gonna bring back down my clothes
I'm going upstairs, I'm gonna bring back down my clothes, do them all
If anybody ask about me, just tell'em I walked out on
Man there’s nobody cooler then Howlin Wolf
No one has ever improved on this sound. The Wolf has been dead over forty years, and there is still nothing better.
Ken Kunz except for me
ofc not man it is unique as fuk :D
Led Zepellin is better
@@hombrerusode40anos72 ha goes to show you do know nor have ever had the blues
Hombre ruso de 40 años evenL Zeplin would disagree with you

What a pinko, I mean, implying that being poor, hungry, and legally regarded as 3/5's of a human being could possibly make you do "evil" things to survive. Also, might it be true that there's such a wealth of understanding, compassion, and survivor's anger in the raw beauty of Wolf's voice that it scares the crap out of politicians?
I've carried that with me my whole life since I heard that just over 10 years ago
@@swampgravy1776
this proves youve never experienced adversity. you think about "evil" because you are pushed over the edge and start lashing out, everyone and everything becomes an obstacle, you dont care what you have to do to change your situation, what ever kind of cruelty. those kinds of moralistic ideals doesnt matter anymore, because they are a privelege to care about, and you dont have the privelege to consider them anymore. its primal, desperate, survival instinct. thats what white people dont understand when they moralized "gang violence" in inner cities
Wolf didn't play harp often, but when he did, he tried to blow the insides out of it. What a talented dude.
I never knew just how good he was on harp until I saw this.
He have record.. Were he played.. He song and played harp.. Sory my english.. It bought it somewhere begining 70... -- or not more than 75
“When you ain’t got no money- you’ve got the Blues. When you ain’t got no money to pay your house rent, you’ve still got the Blues. Alot of people holler “I don’t like no Blues”, but when you ain’t got no money, and you can’t pay your house rent, and can’t buy no food, you damn sure got the Blues!” Howlin’ Wolf
Only few keywords to explain what blues is allbout.
I've NEVER seen or heard anybody play the harmonica like this man. What I love is when he's playing, he's rocking with it!!!
And Blues is the only type of music that can only be sung in English….. unlike other forms of music you will be hard pressed to hear Blues sung in a different language!
He works that Thang right?
No money + thinking evil = the blues
The blues is hard to explain but that is a working formula
it's a good start. I think the "blues" can mean a lot of things to different ppl.
You have to define evil and what it means to who said it. It's been said the blues will heal'ya ! I just gravitate towards it at different times. One white boys opinion
Murray Howell by evil it means things you can do(steal,drink,etc..) But wont do because its better just to make music. Also safer lol.
omfg i've heard this song for like 10 years and today i realized the true meaning of that line... the time you think in evil you thinking 'bout the blues.
im crying.
Well blues is either a genre of music or it's to do with 'feeling blue', or it's a combination of both. Not really much to explain.
Howlin' Wolf's the guy who first got me into the blues. He's a good starter guy for all you blues newbies!
He's the only one care about. And RL Burnside.
Been into all sorts of blues but he's still the epitome of the blues sound for me.
The whole notion of starter this or that seems meaningless. It’s just convenient coincidence that he’s who YOU started with. And it implies that it isn’t deep and pure enough-like it’s Fisher Price blues.
@@flowerdoodle2438 My first was Slim Harpo after my first trip to NOLA in January.
He ain’t no starter guy and most of people listening to this are damn sure not newbies
Perhaps I´m wrong, but it seems to me that later generations have forgotten all about the legacy of African American blues musicians and their phenomenal music. The song writing and the performance talents are astounding. It is a genre that we are losing as a nation and culture. Performers like Wolf, Muddy, Sonny Boy, Hooker, Magic Sam, Jimmy Reed and many others. Every generation develops or chooses its own art forms, I recognize that, but it is a shame that it is done in a way that relegates this music to the forgotten file. Wolf is my favorite of all of them. If you have not listened to "The London Howlin Wolf Session", I would suggest you give it a try.
El blues no muere amigo.🇦🇷
Don’t you worry tough, I was born 1994 in Morocco/North Africa, and I listen and play even older stuff like (sun house and Robert Johnson), I was introduced by my father to rock’n’roll and then to the Blues and I’m hoocked to this shit ever since lol
A people without a history is like a tree without roots.
All you have to do is listen to Led Zeppelin to be reminded of it...
It’s certainly concerning, but I was born in generation Z and worship the Wolf, and the most beautiful part is I’m not the only one. My buddies and I put on Howlin Wolf records and dig up old Blind Willie McTell far more often than Zeppelin or anything post 1995. Music is still good, no matter where you are there’s always somebody making beautiful noise, but I pray that we’ll never forget about these titans who paved the way for so much that followed them.
one of the coolest people to have ever lived
The baddest too…nobody fucked with the Wolf.
My favorite live performance of this song by a long shot.
This is such an incredible live performance. The entire ensemble plays loosely, and swings, just shuffling along, an almost casual shuffling into each note or phrase, but never sounding sloppy, It's as though the loose interpretive style of the solo acoustic players; just themselves and a guitar, John Lee Hooker, Bukka White, Son House, has been worked into the playing of this larger group. It's as though each member of Howlin' Wolf's band has separately absorbed this loose acoustic solo artist style, and then when they play together, they play the same way in this group format, but certainly listen to each other. The result is this loose, shuffling along instrumental accompanyment that swings. Not to ignore Howlin' Wolf - I don't think he ever cut a bad record. His voice is blues, ringing with deep emotional soul - can't explain it, you just feel it in your bones. You all know what I mean. Hail to the Wolf!!
What is Sun house doin there??
@@garywilloughby6893 who ?
his name is son house u softball
@@garywilloughby6893 This was recorded at The Newport Folk Festival. They had a small kind of jam area and this was when Wolf's band played there. Son House was also at the festival and was at Wolf's session.
ITS A DAMN FINE THING TO HEAR when ur down especially when u got the blues
Well, Wolf was real particular about the sound and made everyone play the way he wanted or he knocked their teeth out like he did to Hubert to make him stop playing with a pick, and instead use his fingers.
the harp looks so small in his hand
the wolf was a giant!!
He was a big bad Wolf
I was just thinking that 😂
I could listen to Howlin' Wolf all day.
and I have
@@garywilloughby6893 me too. In fact, that's exactly what I'm doing right now.
I could too
My Dad had the great privilege to see Chester perform live in the UK many decades ago. He passed his passion for Chester's music onto me as a kid for which I am immensely grateful.
I read somewhere that when Sam Phillips first heard Howlin' Wolf, he said "this is where the soul of a man never dies". I couldn't agree with him more. What he is singing and playing is profound, it's raw emotions that we all have felt.
From Peter Guralnick's wonderful biography of Sam Phillips:
p 121..Howlin' Wolf unwavering in his physical courage throughout his life ... awestruck wonder at the man
148..losing Wolf was his greatest disappointment
--I'll take to my grave not having the Wolf around
Coolest man on the planet . We think we have it tough. . . . . . .
He may have had the biggest influence on the future of Rock n roll...more than anyone. Just an incredible talent and entertainer...
Him and other great blues men have had a huge influence on Brit bands of the 60’s…. Too bad they got little recognition for it.
Superior talent…and the part where he says “the money gone” and proceeds to put the money away. Just awesome.
Now this is the BLUES..His HARMONICA IS the absolute so glorious . No one better😊❤
My favourite bluesman of all times! I love his power and his passion!
"Anytime you think to evil, you thinking about the Blues" Such a poet. Number One, Chester Arthur Burnette.
Would love to take a time machine back and see him live! He was incredible!
This is fffffffffffffffffffffffffire man. Can't stop watching it send help.
"...There's the I ain't got no money blues....and then there's the I ain't got no woman blues....which is the double blues..."
Usually if you ain't got no money, you ain't got no woman!!:)
Weiss Hal True that....
+Weiss Hal AMEN!
Really? I always thought you ain't got no money BECAUSE you got a woman... Ya feel me?
+Bob Saget I am definitely feeling you Bob, are you really the real Bob Saget?
I saw him play and got to shake his hand. He had 7 harmonicas in there.
What a privilege !!
Wow 7😂
Shook Wolf's hand? The man didn't have hands, he had meat hooks!
@@markconnorsmusic & OTHERS Just basically boils down to the simple fact that the progression of Blues, Soul, Jazz, R & B, and Rock originated WHERE, HOW LONG AGO, and has been copied, altered, made more electronic & amplified by many talents through the progression of time CAUSE IT SOUNDS SO GOOD STILL!!!
@@Hawaii808dakine unless you have a chromatic you need several tuned differently in most cases. I wouldn't want a chromatic tho. They're cool but they're not as intuitive imo. Plus they get wet as your playing, so swapping even to one in the same key can be useful
Awesome music. What a man and what a voice!
That voice, yes.

I grew up listening to my parents' Spanish love songs. Ripe old age of 14, I was parking cars at a Latin night club called the P.A. Pan American Night Club in Houston. I asked this youngster if he wanted a Papa Burger. He said Fletcher's Diner had the best burgers! Went to their jukebox had nothing but the Blues. Robert Johnson's Sweet Home Chicago. My feet were keeping with the beat and I asked what is this?? It's the Blues. Last year my wife and I got San Antonio for our 16th anniversary. We go to Hotel Sheraton Gunther and stayed in Room 414. Robert Johnson recorded that song in that Suite in 1935. Watch Crossroads. Man the history I enjoyed these last 71 years
This clip unfortunately cuts out the part where Wolf gets tired of Son house’s drunken interruptions and puts him in his place lol
Pain of the Blues makes such beautiful music, goes straight to the heart.
True…. And Blues is the only form of American music that can only be sung in English… it would be very hard to find Blues being sung in any other language because it just would noway bring out the same feelings.
You can't make music better than this!
Son house in the corner. If only I was in my prime when this was playing live. This is music
Death Letter is monster cool
No wonder Zeppelin has so much heart.....they "borrowed" the best blues there was and made it their own...best music ever and two generations or three away.....SO Good!!
They only did what the old blues guys did. Borrowed off others.
Howlin Wolf preaching the truth. What a man. This is where the soul of a man never dies.
killer track from howilin wolf, and this guy understand the blues perfect, howilin wolf is one of the best guitar players and singers that ever lived.
That man could make a harmonica and a microphone disappear inside of one hand when he cupped his hand around both.that man had some giant paws.R.I.P. H.WOLF
Down in the past my friend and I loved watching this video together. I still love watching this video. He's dead now and and I still got the blues. Just lost my job and I ain't got no money. Ran out of money, ran out of friends & I'm thinking evil.
I just watched Cadillac Records and it led me to researching all of these black talented artists legendary!!!! They started the Blues and rock and roll I really enjoy his performance it was great Bettye LaVette reminds me of him the way he saying great Sound

Acho que o blues tá no sangue, só pode.
I've been listening to The Wolf since age 11 in 1969. I've been playing harp since the age of 11. Love his harp style alot and that powerful voice.
When your down and out you definitely got the blues.
I don't see how anyone could put thumbs down to this amazing man he inspired so many artist people just don't respect real music now days
It's the people who don't respect real music that dislike
No one can come close to this guy and African American down and dingy Soul foul Blues !!! The guitar skills singing is once in a lifetime experience! Thanks black Brothers for just being human and I'm Mexican Indian native to this land we thank you for your contribution ! to humanity
Your welcome 🤫🤝
If you've ever listened to very early Captain Beefheart when they played mostly blues, Howlin Wolf is the influence. Especially in the vocals of Don Van Vliet.
That's what I thought: Captain Beefheart, better.
@@fredericpelloud7536 Better than Howlin’ wolf?
@@Stargazer-px7fw No of course, I meant HW better than CB. Much better
@@fredericpelloud7536
I think Beefheart got his vocal style from HW but then pushed further and used better musicians .
:-) Funny guy and great performer. And boy, could he wail on that harmonica.
Great Song , Great Artist . Many Years ago I found an old cassette and I didn't know who this was . I played it every day.
Damn, how talented is this man? Intro cool, song cool, dressing cool, performance awesome.
It all derived from these and the jazz folk. Respect to all the blues and jazz musicians who lived the life.
Respect from the UK.
Why don't we listen to our Elders? This man had wisdom unto an ethereal state. 🙌💝💝💝
Setembro/21 - Vivendo sob o julgo da Covid-19, tendo o prazer de ouvir essa música maravilhosa do Howlin Wolf, prazer indescritível, curtindo lembranças da adolescência e juventude.
Voz e gaita integradas, incrível!

I love the blues and there are so many greats, Howlin wolf was just extra special
Thanks for posting! Brings back good memories of fish fries and dancing on Saturdays with my family. Such a good time
Best performance I've ever heard and those lyrics! Charisma off the charts.
I love Chester (howling wolf) so much, he sings to my heart ❣
We've all got the blues Chester.from the day we're born to the day we pass out.
Oh he has he's talking crap to howling wolf watch the meet me in the bottom part of this session
This is one of the best Chicago Blues songs ever. Brilliant stuff. And see the other UA-cam versions, one with the Stones!
It’s also a great insight to me how son house is digging it. His hand gestures as he gets into give an indication how he internalises and interprets music.
Now I get Captain Beefhearts vocal delivery.
Philip Larkin yep. Beefheart was Wolf for Weirdos lol
Check out Markos Vamvakaris. Totally different genre. Same type of voice.
Oh man, I knew it seemed familiar. Beefheart certainly copped that Wolf sound for his stuff, which I guess is why it’s so intriguing-sounding.
Beefheart was inspired by Howlin' Wolf and Ornette Coleman
And a little bit of Tom Waits
Best intro ever
Check out. Leadbelly

The real deal, this is what real music sounds like.
I love that gritty sound.. can't reproduce it today.. Sun House is over to the right of the screen .. but to Wolf's left.
He and Sonny Terry were the kings of the harp
Remembering Chester Arthur Burnett - the great Howlin' Wolf today: June 10, 1910 - January 10, 1976
Reggie Young Played baseball with Howlin’ Wolfe. Loved him. Regular folks in Memphis in the 1950’s. Them was better days.
Astonishing anyone, let alone a group, can be so cool. Love the Wolf.
Du hast recht mit Deinen Worten zum Blues, aber das entscheidende ist , mit wieviel Herz und positiven feeling diese Music von Euch gespielt wird.
Ich liebe den Blues for ever and ever.
Honour and Respekt for you all. Gemeinsam sind wir stark und erreichen was wir wollen. Gary kicking Wolf 🐺🐾🐾🦅🦬🤔😎🤓
I had a lot of 45s and some LPs and a few 78s, too! He was the greatest!
This is what I call the REAL DEAL.....Wolf doesn't fuck around here...he has you really feeling it..and that's real deal...blues...his blues harp is hard to beat....
2020 Yes Howlin Wolf💕
Que manera de tocar la guitarra del maestro Hubert Sumlin. Sin duda un estilo incomparable
Wolf was The Man. Wish I could rate this with 1000 thumbs up.
First time I bin here but had to notice that Wolf was a fairly accomplished harp player. He plays better than some of the backup harpists he had.. What I like is it's nice and easy. Wish I come here earlier - coulda learned some things.
Yea HW. The blues is the way of life. God bles all of us who are in blues.
OMG! He was the real OG! What a bad man! When you got the Blues you’re thinking evil! Damn straight!
I should’ve quit you Baby! A long time ago! I should’ve quit you. That the basis of every Zep blues song right there. They took it all from the Wolf!
Then Howlin Wolf lays down the meanest Harmonica you ever heard and with feeling so it cuts through to your soul!
God, he was great!
RIP Howlin Wolf

I just love this performance
The jewel of the blues!
I love this video because Son Houses is in it, and it is wickedly awesome.
Dear Lord, Thank you for forgiveness 🙏
This is the one where he yells at sun ra, he's at the bar in the hat. Yells at him for being drunk. Wolf is a good guy, that means something different in Chicago. I miss guys like him. When I grew up there was tons of old cool black guys who would tell you stories....... his house is around here, his daughters are.
Absolutely terrific!
Legends may sleep but never die
What a voice!
A master of the blues talking here.
This is the blues!
Good shit man, listened to good blues all my life, and it's still just as fresh as ever
Thank you for posting this master piece OG 🙏
the biggest baddest wolf of them all
Leave baby go ‘realisation’ she’s gone come back baby ! That’s the blues
Wolf is the voice of my Gawd. Muddy, John Lee and Bo are my judgement icons.
I was at the Alice's Revisited show in the early 70's that was released as a live LP. Great show!
Just fantastic!
