My daughters asked me what I wanted for Christmas this year, I simply asked them to help me clean out closets, as I am handicapped, and not only did they do that, but they made my husband and me a bunch of homemade freezer meals!!! BEST gifts EVER!!!

I laughed so hard when you mentioned you were downstairs walking in place to get to 10,000 steps - my Auntie Katie calls me from time to time and starts the conversation saying, "I'm walking around the basement to get to my 10,000 steps." haha! We talk so long that she ends up with 11,000-12,000 steps!
Great Video. Good Job Guys! Hope & Larry you have raised 4 very smart, well adjusted young men. I hope young married parents listen to your advice in raising children to young adults. You two must be so proud.
tipping you hotel room attendant? most definitely! I was a chamber maid for a few years when my children were small, it was a physically hard and at times discussing job. When I cleaned a room that left a tip I was delighted 😊 I really needed the money
Not only do I leave a tip I make sure to put it in the hand of the person who took care of us. I've heard horror stories of tips being taken by the manager who was inspecting the rooms. And, I NEVER leave it in a community tip jar at the front desk, to be shared among all the staff.
Honestly if I find out somebody doesn't tip I won't say anything to them but in the future I'll avoid going out with them. People are not your servants.... If you don't want to pay you need to stay home!
@ I’m am sure the room attendants appreciate that ! Management and others will definitely take cash. I was employed at one hotel that the manager insisted that all tips come to her….claiming she would distribute accordingly. And would tell cleaning staff they better turn it in . She claimed she planted tips in room just to be sure housekeeping was turning it in .
I'm a fan of cutting tubes open, especially face wash, face moisturizer, etc. I hadn't thought to cut the toothpaste tube open, but will probably do so now that someone mentioned it.
I have those small containers with lids, from the Dollar Store. I cut open the toothpaste, scoop out the contents and put in the containers, sealed with the lid.
Bread bags and aluminum foil washed and saved by my Mom and reused. Cooked potato peels and served as a side dish, she cut them a little thicker as tater skins. She put a needle nose pliers on the ( then metal) toothpaste tube to get all the toothpaste out. Ribbons, wrapping paper and bows were definitely reused every Christmas/ birthday, if possible. The Funny pages of the newspaper was often used as free wrapping paper..
Interesting. As young girls, our Camp Fire Girls troop in the 1970s compared several types of similar grocery items. The cheapest, middle priced and name brand most expensive canned tuna, mandarin oranges, boxed breakfast cereals, blueberry muffin mix and others were opened and compared. Price, taste, quality, and value were recorded. We learned invaluable consumer knowledge from this.
My Mom grew up during America's Great Depression. It defined her frugality for a lifetime. She would definitely save extra decent looking paper napkins. She had a box in her kitchen in a cupboard for saving these things. She used them instead of paper towels for sopping up grease spills or spills that would stain her washable cleaning towels/ rags.
I forgot one, I am a city bus driver, at least I was just until a few weeks ago, ( I retired), and I have to say nearly all my passengers lied about their age to get a free ride. The fare is only 1.00 but it is as free for people who were 12 and under, 65 or older, a veteran, or disabled, all ride free ..... I couldn't tell you how many "12" years olds have mustaches in my town.
@greeneyedredhead61 well my son's only 11 and has a killer mustache coming in! And he's about as big as I am at 5'3" and 150pounds?? I'd just ask birth year... anyone under 2013 ... it's harder to lie when you ask the year they were born than their age! Catches them off gaurd!
As a teacher myself, I am so happy to hear that Daniel opted to go the high school route. I remember beforehand he was looking at being a middle school teacher. High school is a much better choice!
I smashed the like button just 4 minutes into this video! I like the way the young men embrace the frugal life style!! Here’s my tip: For most products, I start with the lowest price and analyze. I work my way up if the lowest price does not meet my needs or standards. This seems like what her son did with Doritos. He tried off brand but then thoughtfully chose name brand. With beans, he analyzed that generic are fine.
About The sockhairtiething: I once did that because my socks where to tight. And then I got the Idea to use it on my hair, but not for budgetreasons. Just was courious how it would work. And I need to say, it was actually pretty comfortable, because the elastic was not to tight but held my hair in place. I would do it again, actually I found them to be better than the store bought ones.
I have had different experiences with cutting open toothpaste..one time I got 2 weeks of extra toothpaste; the last time I got 3 days. (Guess I’m getting better at scraping😂) I do cut open my face lotion and I’m so doing so get easily three weeks’ extra moisturizer..nothing to sneeze at! Love this discussion with the Ware family❤
When I boil water for coffee or tea I put the excess water in a flask. The crusts or as you call them, heels, I put in the freezer and when I have enough I make a bread pudding. Add rasins, sugar and spices to soaked in milk or water bread and bake. Just like mother used to make.
I cut all bread leftovers in cubes, dry them on a tray on the woodstove and use them for a sweet bread pudding with apples and raisins or for a savoury one with a cheese alternative and some smoked tofu.
I totally agree on the towels. 100% cotton. I do put them in the dryer due to the fact that I live in a very cold climate and we only have a few …….minimalist at heart . but never with any type of fabric softener
Those young men are so cute and very smart! Loved your discussions and agreed with all. I love the abrasiveness of line dried towels- like a free dermabrasion lol. (the dryer does use a lot of energy). Great show
Love hopes face when their sons are saying about reusing wrapping paper, who does that,?..then hope admitted she did it. Hilarious. Great show, love daniel and phil on the show. Looks like you hax great fun ❤❤
Such a fantastic, frugal family! Hope and Larry, thank you for teaching your sons money/budgeting skills! My parents didn’t teach me and it’s been a life journey to frugal living ❤
When I first moved to Houston back in the 80’s, I worked for a few months as an Optician. In Texas some of them are more like frame stylists instead of college trained. Fortunately I had a manager that was a trained Optician that would help people with broken glasses. He kept a box with an assortment of temples he would replace broken ones with. At that time he would either replace a temple or resolder the old one. Either way he charged the customer $10. The customer was happy (saved $$ from buying a new frame) and he picked up some extra cash.
Hope, you are very respectful to your sons by letting them speak without interrupting them. I admire that about you. Your home must be so joyful with your sons in it! I seem to recall that your two older sons also complained about "cardboard" towels. In regard to cutting open a tube of toothpaste: I do it all the time, and the amount of toothpaste that is in the tube is astounding! I would never throw it away.
Yes, that is the most common complaint I hear from friends and family about Aldi, the snacks are not great. I look at this way, shop Aldi for the majority or basics of the menu and you save enough to splurge on must have name brand items. I feel that way about ketchup - I only want Heinz.
Heya, Hope, Larry, & family! Been around the channel since the early days myself & it's absolutely lovely seeing your family grow into super respectable young adults. I rly enjoy your family atmosphere & table chats w/ your love for coffee. Thanks for years of great videos & content! My biggest tip: pay yourself first. Make sure you have the money before you buy something. Save, save, save. :D
For lotion bottles, I have a heavy duty pair of fiskar scissors that can literally cut through the middle, and then I take a silicone spatula that I purchased at Dollar tree specifically for this and I scooped it out into a little container from the Dollar tree that has a screw-on lid the container is like 10 oz. But when I'm down to where the bottle of lotion will no longer squirt, I can get at least another 2 weeks worth of lotion that would have otherwise been thrown in the trash.
When I'm sick, I use a few washcloths for my nose. I'm also able to put a little vicks or essential oil on them. Toss them in the washer afterwards, and there is nothing to throw out.
I have a funny story about reusing gift bags. When my daughter was little, she knew that we always saved gift bags from Christmas or birthdays to reuse. Well... when she was in kindergarten she attended a birthday party. When I picked up my daughter from the party, she had with the bag which we used for the girl's gift. I asked her why she had that, and she informed me that she told the little girl that she need the gift bag back, because her mom saves them! I had to explain that we only save gift bags when WE receive a gift!
love this with your sons talk. I cracked up about the banana because it brought me back to the worst taxi drive I ever had. It was a mad taxi driver who picked me up from the station to my home. On the front of the car bonnet was a banana skin and the taxi driver had a death race to my home to get rid of this banana skin. I thought this isn't real, what is this about. I was only glad to get out of this taxi alive.
So funny you guys are ,,I loved this video ,,loved when Hope put her hand up I reuse wrapping paper I laughed so hard cause I do to,,😂😂😂😂 so funny made my day ❤ HAPPY NEW YEAR 🎉
This was so much fun! I subscribed today. You're only the 4th channel that I've subscribed to. I like your family... so down to earth! Happy 2025!!! 🎉🥳🎊
One year my daughter wrapped presents in fabric and tied with a ribbon, then she could re-use the fabric. I have always re-used wrapping paper that's still in good condition too.
We take the ribbed part of wool socks and get multiples of them and sew them together on a serger and make fingerless gloves. Some smart wool socks would make a cute scrunchie
I tip more generously for good service at a less expensive restaurant than for average service at a more expensive place. How hard a server works is not really judged by the price of the food.
No tipping in Australia but our minimum wage is a lot higher. I know they had to include tips in the cost of cruises because Aussies werent tipping the staff.
❤❤... I agree with the boys.. bath towels, face cloths, Jeans.. all benefit from the dryer.. But .. !!.. You can line dry these items until basically dry, pop them into the dryer for 3-5 minutes & fluff the towels ~ getting that wonderful softness, at a greatly reduced cost
This is my favorite episode. Your sons made some great (and logical!) comments. (I don't agree with everything they decreed--I do re-use wrapping paper but only if it is in great shape; I have started to largely use gift bags as they last longer and work just as well. Re-gifting is awesome. If I give you a gift and you don't like it, or it is something you're not going to use, I'd love for you to pass it on to someone else.) I'd like to add that in addition to all the things you all identified as frugal, they reduce the amount of waste/garbage you are generating--especially with items such as itty-bitty travel bottles of shampoo. Being frugal is good for the environment!
What a great video. It’s interesting to see how growing up with frugality has impressed upon your children. They seem well adjusted. They have their own ideas ! Very interesting.❤😂
I agree with the person who picked up the banana. You don't eat the skin and the skin is a natural protection for the fruit inside so if the skin is unharmed the fruit inside is safe to eat. I've done that and live to tell the tale. Less food waste.
This was absolutely the best video that has crossed my path in quite awhile!!!! Your boys are hilarious!!! It makes me so happy to see you people thinking so frugally!!!
Here in the UK we have a saying 'well the apple doesn't fall very far from the tree' when talking about someones children if they do something either of their parents do! You taught your boys well. Very funny and enjoyable video 😂
Oh I have so many comments to make on this this vido. Which was a great video. Mothers have been eating leftovers on children's plates for ever. oh I forgot to mention but I'm only going to mention two. One is asking just to have the ear piece of eyeglass replaced instead of the whole frame brilliant idea
I'm in the midst of raising 6 year old twin boys that are going through a development stage where a lot of things are changing in their life and they are angry and fight all-the-time. And then I see your video with your happy, funny, boys and I hope so dearly that my boys will grow up and be happy and want to join their mother in her hobby/work. I love this, everyone just seem so friendly and HAPPY
Always love the addition of your boys. Great perspectives from the younger generations. I think saving the bread heels IS their way of no food waste, as opposed to croutons, etc. I think it was just an additional idea. I also have heard from parents who save the cut crusts off sandwiches of kids to do the same thing.
Your boys are so correct about certain name-brand snacks! I've tried the generic Cheez-Its from Aldi and they do not hold up to the originals. But the turtle cheese crackers are great! I always eat the bread heels! As long as it's not badly torn, I reuse tissue paper for gift bags every year. I just smooth it out and put it back in bags! My family actually folds up the tissue paper and lets me have it! I reuse the gift bags too. I even leave the tags on them and just stuff them with new gifts the next year. It's been wonderfully sustainable.
Can I just say….. your sons, are all such well rounded boys! You can tell how intelligent they all are! Plus they have such a great sense of humor! Love them! 💙🫶🏻
Hahaha, the banana question 😂. Your boys are very entertaining and I agreed with every single one of their viewpoints. Especially the towels need to go in the dryer.
For years I would save the Sunday funnies to wrap gifts. This worked well, especially on Christmas morning, as the funnies would be passed around….. no piles of torn paper to pick up or throw out.
Great video, guys! You know before Phillip said what restaurant he works in, I had already guessed CFA. Joel's been working for CFA for over 10 years now, so I was just sitting here thinking that that sounds like CFA. lol
It’s nice to see the frugality of the younger generation. I have a son and daughter and my son is the saver. Both have no debt from college and he is a software engineer and lives at home and paid cash for a new car. I agree with you Hope about taking fruit from breakfast on vacation for later. My husband and I only eat two meals on vacation with a snack for lunch. It saves on money and calories.
I use soft cloth hankerchief for colds. I have bunches of handkerchiefs. Inherited from my dad plus several as gifts, just throw them in the wash with whatever I am washing
Hi, I was an ALDI employee for 4 years, name brands doritos are much better then ALDI brand. (Sorry for that one ALDI) but ALDI is ALWAYS my first grocery store i shop before any other stores. I am an ALDI lover of prices 😊 and most foods prices are cheaper than other stores, and I usually spend around $200.-400. at my Bay City, Michigan store. I also have a household of 7 of us living here 😊 love your video's, keep them coming!!!!!
Hope you had a nice Christmas. We did but all came down with colds. My mom blessed me with her hair ties when she got hers cut. Those I will wear to church and save the socks for home 😄 Have a great weekend.
Really enjoyed hearing from Daniel and Phillip. My favorite comments were about drying towels in the dryer. Because I dry mine on lines. Thank you to all of you for a wonderful video!!!
Where I live, tipping is not expected. Staff is payed enough. I do sometimes tip. In one particular restaurant. Because even when it's really busy (they have a full house), they always have a smile on their face and still it doesn't take an hour to get out food.

This was so much fun! I subscribed today. You're only the 4th channel that I've subscribed to. I like your family... so down to earth! Happy 2025!!! 🎉🥳🎊
I do alot of line drying but I run them in the dryer 5 or 10 min first to knock out the wrinkles. I don't mind rough towels. Lol. Happy New Year 🎉
Gift wrap can be expensive. Re-using wrap makes sense. The more times it is re-used, the better.
One year my daughter wrapped presents in fabric and tied with a ribbon, then she could re-use the fabric. I have always re-used wrapping paper that's still in good condition too.
😅😂 I love the extra crunchy line dried towels ❤
LOL! Larry and I don't mind them at all. It's so weird to us that all four of our boys hated the line-dried towels.
Exfoliation
We take the ribbed part of wool socks and get multiples of them and sew them together on a serger and make fingerless gloves. Some smart wool socks would make a cute scrunchie
I tip more generously for good service at a less expensive restaurant than for average service at a more expensive place. How hard a server works is not really judged by the price of the food.
You have a delightful family. This was great. You should definitely make more videos like this.
We will make more. Thank you so much, Camille.
No tipping in Australia but our minimum wage is a lot higher. I know they had to include tips in the cost of cruises because Aussies werent tipping the staff.
😂😅 What fun! I leave items to give at the bus stop all the time.
I will try that.
What a fun video!! I laughed the whole time. You three are a hoot. Hope, please let your boys soften their towels in the dryer. 😂😅😂😅
I haven't laughed so much in a while! I really enjoyed this video and think you've raised some great kids. Love all your videos. Keep it coming!
Love your videos with your family. The coffee is too clear for me. Happy New year for the all.🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉.
Lots of great ideas from our viewers.
These boys seem like great kids. Good job, mom!
This was a great video. I enjoyed your sons. I think this is the first time I’ve seen Phil. What nice boys.
Thank you. Phil actually appeared with me in another video when Hope was sick.
Had so much fun watching you guys! Happy new year to you and your wonderful family! Hi to Larry!
Can I just say….. your sons, are all such well rounded boys! You can tell how intelligent they all are! Plus they have such a great sense of humor! Love them! 💙🫶🏻
I’m really enjoying this video.
Great video! Lovely to see the young ones, and you all having such a lot of fun. Happy new year to you all
Please do more like this one. Love the boys!!
Hahaha, the banana question 😂. Your boys are very entertaining and I agreed with every single one of their viewpoints. Especially the towels need to go in the dryer.
Your sons are a hoot I really enjoyed this video❤
This just sounds like the best after dinner family conversation on a holiday.😊 Love your family.
Thank you, Charlene.
I use soft cloth hankerchief for colds. I have bunches of handkerchiefs. Inherited from my dad plus several as gifts, just throw them in the wash with whatever I am washing
Hi,
I was an ALDI employee for 4 years, name brands doritos are much better then ALDI brand.
Those I will wear to church and save the socks for home 😄
Have a great weekend.
Awesome video! great laughs, your boys are awesome!!!thank you😂
Really enjoyed hearing from Daniel and Phillip.
This was fun! Definitely some good laughs. Your one son looks like an English teacher already. My husband and I are both English teachers too. ❤
I'm going to need an update on the gifts James and Hannah ended up giving you and the rest of the family from their home 😊 Love that
