So glad to hear from your youngest son! He's a great addition to your channel and hope he joins you again.
Phillip is a doll. And he sure looks like Hope! It’s great to see a father and son who love to be together. So great.
Thank you!
He does; I wondered at first glance if she had cut her hair.
I hope Phil will come back once in a while. It's great to have a youth perspective on things because his activities are different than those of his parents. Great job.
Thank you!
Loved seeing Philip! He is a handsome, engaging and fun young man. I bet you love being around him and are so proud of him!
Yes, we both love spending time together. Thank you.
As a vegetarian here in Ireland sometimes one has to take second best at Restaurants and still pay the same as someone eating a "meat" meal so best advice is to make a meal at home.
Great parenting reflects on the children
I admire Phil's good looks and winning perssonality.
He's adorable. Many comments on this already, but interactions between dad and son here, is just beautiful. They're reactions are genuine joy.
I love how Larry answered #33. What a gentleman and he's teaching his son how to be one also. Being "kosher" is so rare these days. I'm glad there are real men still out here:)
Thank you!
Phil is a wonderful addition to your video. I hope he is featured more often in the future.
Thank you so much. Yes, we'll put him on future videos.
It was so nice to meet Phil. He is such a nice boy! You and Hope must be so proud of him.
We are very proud of him. Thank you!
What kind of boy is he? This is a young MAN!
I'm so sorry if I offended him or you. I guess I'm getting older and everyone under thirty looks very young to me.@@Sara45499
Larry, you aged backwards as you engaged with your young son. He is an energizer…a charming boy!
Thank you so much!
I agree
We just started cleaning and drying our ziplock bags 😂 my partner even made a little "clothesline" above the sink to hang them
I'm 54. My parents used to send us back to Tennessee from New York every summer. I remember my grandpa having a little clothes line from the Frigidaire to the double ring washer. In addition to socks, he would hang up tin foil that he had washed or shaken out if we toasted some bread or something.
He had put himself through electronics school after becoming a widow in 63. He still had three children under the age of 16 to raise. My dad was 21 and already married and moved to New York.
I had such a wonderful time being with my Grandpa Johnson. He had earned his electronic certification through a correspondence course after my grandmother passed away. He worked construction in the daytime to be able to support the family, but he had to find something that would bring in income during the down season for construction workers.
He opened up his own television and radio repair business in the second part of the duplex he lived in. He had saved up enough money through doing this to be able to buy the duplex in the early 80s. I still remember the pension certificate he got from the IBEW he was so proud of😊.
He always had televisions he was working on or radios. He'd have everything lined up and he's the one that taught me always get half up front. People always came back😊
People would bring their cars around for him to work on the radio as well.
He was so frugal, that he even had a soap ball. He would meld all of the little slivers of soap together when they got down to a really thin part.
I always got a kick out of trying to find the Dove or Ivory or the Palmolive side. I could always tell when I found the Lava side because you could feel the pumice in it 🤣
I've been washing and reusing ziplocs (to an extent) since my early twenties. When they are dry, I flatten them and fold them in half and then I keep them in another Ziploc so I can kind of grab one out at a minute's notice.
I also keep the little twisty ties folded over a little ceramic cup on my window sill. When I get the nice ones with the wire in it like from a package from a store like Walmart, I have the biggest grin on my face. I even threw a few into my wallet and one day the buckle on my boot broke. I threaded it right through it and twisted it and because it was black no one knew my boot was broken.😂
Phillip is a handsome young man with a great speaking voice. His voice is very calming.
Thank you!
Phil is absolutely adorable! Enjoyed getting to know him!
Thank you!
YES phil looks like his mom.❤
I agree! He does!
💯
He is identical to his mom
Both Phil and Daniel look like their mom
No doubt, and he takes after her as well.
Larry, I've been intending to tell you that your retirement haircut looks great!
Thank you!
@@asavannah7439 - it's the natural colors. I do nothing to the color.
I hate to hear Hope broke her arm. Get well soon Hope! ❤ What a charming young man Phil is.
Thank you!
When I turn water on to do dishes I have a water pitcher under the faucet until it turns hot. Then use the water pitcher to water plants or make coffee.
I do the very same thing! Great idea.
Smart
never knew about this! “It’s always annoying” cold water and waiting for it to get warmer!☹️
Or when taking a shower
Same here ❤
Thank you for helping your dad out ! it was great to see you Phil great job .,,, prayers for a fast recovery for your mother.
Thank you!
Love the interaction between father and son. What a great family!
Thank you!
What a nice young man! I dress warmly during the day and set the thermostat at 68. Over night we have it at 60. I like to sleep in a warm bed with the room cold.
Good ideas. Thank you!
When I was a child in the fifties, we did unwrap our presents very carefully and did reuse the paper. Sometimes, we even ironed the paper with a towel in between to remove any wrinkles
It's official, I am undeniably frugal. I related to many of these markers. I just teared up a little today when I threw away a pair of leather shoes I've loved for many years. I wore them out in the rain today and my feet were soaked. I felt like I was losing an old friend 😞
I recently discovered that many quality shoe stores can resole your shoes. I have a pair of haflinger sandals (similar to Birkenstock). I have had them for 7 years and literally worn through the soles. I paid $50 to have them resoled and they look like new. I can keep wearing them for many years to come!!🎉
Oh, so sad. I know the feeling well.
@@kl3258 Yes but sometimes the leather is just done. My husband wore a hole through the leather upper of his boots - not much you can do for that. I have leather sandals that just finished their 13th or 14th year - the leather lining is just gone.
What a lovely son...You raised four hreat children..❤
Thank you!
Love it! How fun! And Phil is a perfect mix of both you and Hope, Larry! Pray you're feeling improved, Hope!! 🤗
@@Joce123Great fun meeting Phil! Wonderful having a different perspective on things!! ❤
Thank you.
Philip! He's grown up! He did a great job!
Thank you!
When my husband wanted to buy an e-bike I washed him to please look at your video first as you do your homework before you buy. He bought the one you bought. 😊
Wonderful! Thank you so much, Teresa.
My 18 year old found a $200.00 like brand new lego set for $8.00 (and yes all the pieces were there) for her 16 year brother last year for Christmas! She won the best gift for the least money. We have always bought gifts for our kids at thrift stores and they always knew it. When they were little we had $20.00 to spend for each one and i would buy things all year and keep track of how much money i spent. The kids would ALWAYS look forward to how many great items that i would find for them. Now that they are 24 - 17 they buy each other gifts that they find at thrift stores. Some people think we are dumb but we have had so much fun with this over the years.🌞 You should have seen his face and how we all were so giddy that she had found that! She found it in the summer and hide it in her closet till Christmas! Oh my! The joy of the little things!🌞
I love it!
That's awesome!
I think he is the father that any boy would want to have . I can see how Phil respects and loves his dad and it is heartwarming . This family is admirable in many ways. Keep doing what you’re doing !
Greeting from Sweden!😊
Thank you!
We live in Australia. We use a token for the supermarket trolley because I don't usually carry cash. We also get a kick out of finding coins in stray trolleys in the car park because some people can't be bothered taking their trolley back to the store, especially on a hot day. We save plastic drink bottles and cans for return and earn recycling centres. They're worth 10c each. We also take a bag with us when we go for our daily walks and pick up any cans or bottles we find along the way. It's surprising how it adds up. We average about $10 a week from that.
Excellent!
My daughter and I shop almost exclusively from thrift stores. She is an adult now and buys from online used clothing places since she gets some great deals there.
Hello Larry, you are doing a great job with hosting your videos! Hope, we are all praying for complete healing for you! Love&prayers❤❤❤ Nice to see Phil working with you! I use dishpans one for washing&one for rinse. We use cold water for rinse. Warm water for washing because it helps create suds! I use household items to clean with and make my own laundry soap. We use vinegar, baking soda, watered down dish soap slurry, rubbing alcohol, and hydrogen peroxide is a great sanitary cleaner.
You have a great plan in place! Thank you!
So handsome love seeing your sons they all talk with authentic smartness nice
Awe, thank you!
I hear that Hope said "Wow, between the room service and housekeeping I'm movin' in-- this place is GREAT!". 😂
LOL!
#1 cracks me up. I've seen friends trying to "one up" each other over cars purchased or vacations taken and we're over here competing over who got one over on kroger this week by just buying the loss leaders lol.
Phil you were great!!! Larry the both of you together was wonderful
Thank you!
Great video invite Phil again he makes a good co-host
Thank you!
What a good looking young man! Nice to meet ya, Phil!❤
Thank you!
Great video!! Phillip is such a handsome and smart young man. You and Hope have done well!
Thank you!
Excellent video! Phillip is so handsome! This was a fun video! I’m still praying for Hopes speedy recovery ❤️🩹
Thank you, Debbie!
Prayers for Hope's arm.
I'm a major frugal with only 5 "no" answers. I received a Cross pen for graduation in 1978, I still use it everyday! I buy a dozen refills for about $6. I do have swaps with other women. I can bring silk scarves, extra costume jewelry, dresses and coats/wraps. We all leave with something new and interesting. Bulk buying is key. It's just me, but I buy a 25 pound bag of something, I'll keep what I need and either share with my daughter or neighbors who will be happy with the bonus. I live in an over 55+ neighborhood and I know of several widows who are finding price increases not keeping up with retirement income or just social security. They fuss, but I've lost my parents and siblings; so I tell them to allow me to share my blessings (in the name and memory of my Mom and Sisters) with me. This way they don't feel it's charity.
I grew up learning frugal living from Great Depression Era Grandparents and Parents. I learned very well and I brought up and taught my children the same way. I'm thankful my children understand that earning money is hard, so spending that money must be done carefully and wisely.
I'm not a Scrooge, I enjoy spoiling my grandchildren. As a family, we keep a little notebook with items they each would like for Birthdays and Christmas gifts, then we shop ALL year for items. None are offended with a gently used items! I keep a "gift closet" which I keep a various gifts, all bought at deep discounts, when a friend needs a gift, I have some things that make a friend happy.
I'm frugal, but not miserly! I'm thought of as odd when I don't spend like the "Jones'" they don't pay my bills!
I enjoy making up budgets for families as a hobby. I make a budget with their data and stay with them a few months until they grasp the idea and understand that a budget is NOT a scary thing, but it's more freeing than restraining. When I see they have hope for the future, that is what makes me happy!
Keep up the good work! You help so many! PS: I bought those recharging foot socks and I'm I serious like with them!!
P.S.S. I am looking for a DVD player I can plug into my low end smart tv. My new laptop has no cd/dvd player and i have a collection of my favorite movies and I don't have cable tv. Internet only. I use Pluto and Tubi. UA-cam with no adds is my ONLY splurge at $30 for no ads.
If you can suggest one from Amazon and with an hdmi plug, tv input port that's what I'm looking for. I suspect streaming is going to no longer free.
Thank you so much. You so many good ideas.
I am also frugal but not miserly!
You can reuse the tea bags to dye fabric! My mom has done that, turning old white sheets into curtains. Or to make dinner napkins
I absolutely used to bring snacks into the theater! I dont go anymore, i get very bad headaches and motionsick as well.
This was so fun to watch! So wonderful to see Phil in this video. Great job guys! Hi to Hope, & best wishes for a speedy recovery,
Thank you so much!
I loved this! You two are great together. And I enjoy your sense of humor.
Thank you so much!
Hope, you sure do have a wonderful family ❤ Thank you all so much for all you do. Prayers for speedy recovery.
Thank you!
For gift wrapping, I look for freezer paper at my salvage store. I use it for every occasion by changing up the ribbon color; red or green for Christmas, white for weddings, pink or blue for baby gifts, etc.. The paper is wide and has a shiny side and a non-shiny side. You can use either side.
You can lay a piece of tissue paper on the shiny side, lightly go over it with a warm clothes iron, and have a sheet of lovely heavy duty wrapping paper.
Good idea!@@cynthia57169
Great video! Speaking from a lot of experience. Thanks for joining Phil! Please continue to inspire YOUR generation to understand the importance to control their own finances. Loved this video myself too!
Yes! Thank you!
What a delightful young man Philip is and so handsome too. He surely isn't going to have any trouble getting a date❤ praying Hope has a speedy recovery.
Awe... he looks like you Hope!
Get well soon. Sending prayers.
You must be so proud Larry. He's a doll!
Thank you! I am very proud of all of our "kids".
We keep rechargeable fairy lights on all night in the walking paths. They charge up nicely on a solar power station. This year we added waterfall fairy lights in the bathroom and kitchen. It's rare for us to turn on an actual light at night unless we're reading of working.
We keep our heat on 60* F and maybe 62* when it gets below 20* outdoors.
I love this your home must be so whimsical
😊making mom happy with videos. Cudos Philip. I'm sure she loved watching you two together.
She did! Thank you!
Thank you for your time, show, kindness, and Information Under The Median.
You are so welcome.
Aww, Philip is an absolute sweetheart. What a wonderful interaction with Larry.
Thank you so much!!!
Great video Larry! It was nice to meet you Phil, you made a wonderful team with your dad. ❤
Thank you!
Excellent program. Enjoyed meeting your Son, Phillip.
Thank you!
It was great to see you two together. Nice to see that Philip has embraced being frugal.
Thank you!
I'll be there! Prayers lifted for Hope's recovery!
Phil is simply adorable! Great parenting. Prayers for healing dear Hope! We all miss you! 😘
Thank you!
He's so adorable!
I agree with you I would never waste money on a pen they’re free everywhere you go:)
So true!
Great job gentlemen! Continued prayers for Hope.
Thank you! We really appreciate that.
Good job Larry and Phil. Hope you are doing well Hope.
Thank you! Hope is having better days, but it's going to be slow on the recovery.
Such a fantastic video! That was fun to watch and y’all are a great team!
Thank you!
You are definitely frugal - you saved to pay cash for your house! That's as good as it gets!
By the way, I took your suggestion and signed up for Mint Mobile's offer in December to get 3 months free. I didn't actually activate it until last week but it was NOT EASY! Took 5 days with no cell service because our phones had been locked by Verizon when we purchased them 3 years ago and it was a serious effort- many hours on hold (we still have a landline, thank God) but the switch was finally completed. Suggestion- don't change all your phones at the same time. And start with an unlocked phone. We are happy now! Thank you!
This was just fantastic and so delightful! Both of you are so handsome 👏👏
Awe, thank you, Kathleen.
This is a great podcast for the state that our country is currently in; so many people were never taught or encouraged to be frugal. Our future survival will depend on the majority of us following the ongoing advice of Larry and Hope.....and Phil. 😀
Awe, thank you so much!
Loved this, so fun when you have the kids on, lovely family. Praying Hope is getting well fast miss her. ❤ Thanks Larry.
You are very welcome. Phil and I had a great time together.
My favorite thing is the clearance bins at Kroger. Husband thinks it’s alright but when I make an excel spreadsheet to show the savings conversion and he really finds that interesting haha.
Continued prayers for Hope!
lol Duck tape - You have to watch the Red Green Show. It's Canadian. Hilarious! You might get a few ideas!
Our local PBS station carried that program when I worked there. Very funny!!!
Good show! Phil you did a great job! Tell Hopw we miss her!
Gorgeous kid!!
I have used comics and brown paper to wrap for years and people just love getting the comics as their gift wrap
We occasionally used the Sunday Comics to wrap gift.
Kroger used to give out free samples but not since the pandemic. I do not keep my zip bags that had meat in them. My cheese bags and snack bags I use over and over
Good ideam Sheila on not keeping ones that had meat in them.
I’m watching older videos today. I have to say you have four well rounded sons! I am so impressed!
Your son is adorable, so kind, and you've clearly raised him well. No surprise!
Great video and fun having Phil being part of it! Thanks for the fun quiz. I am frugal per the quiz but not super frugal, either. Keep the fun coming and thanks!😊
That quiz was such fun! Lovely to see father and son spending time together.
Super! Thank you!
I hurt my knee tripping over a chair in the dark so I always tell myself to turn on the light!
Yes, very important,
Great video guys! Phil is a perfect blend of you both. Handsome young man with a wonderful soul. I live in northern Illinois and am very jealous of all you folks that have amish stores, the deals are amazing. Tell Hope we miss her.
Phillip is so refreshing. Always thank for a great child!
Growing up vacations were spent at one relative or another. My parents both came from large families so plenty of them to stay with all along the east coast.
I have cats that can cause me to trip indoors so I scuffle along rather than my usual stride when they're around. Its worse as I get older because I don't see as clearly in dim lighting as the younger me did!
Handsome father & son.
This was a fun video. Love seeing you guys together. Great kid!
So great to see Phil! I continue to pray for Hope
By the way, I remember my dad talking about a family member who lived in Cuba! I was born in Hartford Il. and lived in Alton many years before my family moved to Fl.
Ohhhh this was FUN!
Hey guys… doing a great job! Get well Hope!
Thanks Phil for helping out.
I was looking for a black long sleeved, long top made of fleece or sweatshirt fabric. I looked for weeks online and in stores. Where did I find it on Tuesday? In a thrift store for $3.
Sounds good!
My minimalism wars with my fugalism. Especially when it comes to my kitchen appliances. Even though I can cook it all on the stove, I just save so much more cooking it in an appliance. Especially if I found that appliance while out doing a little retail therapy 😅 my bread machines are $6 second hand shop finds.
Nothing wrong with mix and match cups. If one breaks, you just go find another fun one. My tea cups are the same. With 6 kids, it's just easier. When they do drop their tea cup or mug, we just go out and hunt down a new one for them at the thrift store.
Most of my furniture is thrift finds or even better free from friends who are buying new 😅
I love the color of the phone!!!
We also have a lot of hand me down ornaments. Thomas Kindcade ones that hubby’s grandma gave us years before she passed ~ I think she gave us 10-15 boxes of them 😂
This was so fun. And sweet to see Phil step in for Hope. You can tell the great relationship you have with your boys.
Excellent job Phil!! This has been one of my favorite episodes!! Makes me feel a bit more “normal” in my “fiercely frugal ways!!”
I sold my car, if you really want to money. No insurance gasoline or repair and others. I'm walking distance to Kroger and others. I will say this it's not easy to live without a car. I really like your family. Thanks and bless you all
Love this video. Father and Son combo. We have been at 60 degrees of less and grown quite accustom to it
Haha, love the phone!! Hope, prayers for a quick recovery!
Enjoyed this so much! Phil did a great job and is so nice! I hope he will come back again when Hope is well!
KUDOS Larry and Philip! Job well done on the list. Fun to see your family banter... and humour. We miss you Hope... continued best wishes for a full and speedy recovery.
Hello Hope if your watching. Prayers for your healing❤
