    I remember being a salesperson at a VW/Subaru/Mitsu dealer back in 2003/4. Between the R32, STi, and the Evo, the Evo was the only one that screamed racecar. Had a 95 M3 at that time and it put it to shame. Best steering feel of a 4 door car I’ve ever driven by a mile.

    Love watching all these videos, Matt. I picked my Evo 8 up near new years ago and have been through so many phases with it. Growing up, and transitioning from the racer boy phase to chilled adult phase really makes me resonate with the mindset you have building yours. I’ve been fortunate enough to live through my current Porsche obsession, and I really enjoy seeing someone that will be able to compare and contrast those experiences.
    Back to Evo talk:
    I have been through several setups, and I’m finding myself dialing back from a 800hp street car to a tame 600hp. My first setup was an older FP Green, and they have come a long way. On bolt ons I made around 450whp and 400 tq. I personally believe any stock motor Evo is the most enjoyable at 400-500hp. The power band is much more useable and it packs a punch. The FP green with your mods will give you everything you want, and leave plenty on the table if you ever consider pursuing things further. I am sure Chris has mentioned that already.
    As for suspension, I have the exact same suspension setup as you. However I went as far as throwing every whiteline catalog part on the car. Every bushing has been upgraded to poly, and I also have the bump steer correction kit as well. I would not do anything else given your mileage, but would recommend the bump steer correction kit. It does a great job improving grip, paired with the sway bars and Cusco braces.
    Once you lower the car, and dial the alignment in I believe that you will be much more impressed with how capable the Ct9a chassis is. Evo’s tend to feel tight and darty because of how tight the steering is and they instantly become much more confidence inspiring. I have been through a long list of cars, and this will always be one of my favorites. The only car I felt similar confidence driving has been the 992 GT3. Very tight and refined driving characteristics, where you can point the car anywhere and get it there without any hesitation. It just proves to me how great my old beater of an Evo is after all these years. As for throttle feel, that’s just a typical evo thing. The car literally wants you to abuse it and push into the throttle. However it should be remedied with a tune, and won’t feel as dead between shifts or under 3k rpm’s.

      Ha ha.. 600whp might still be a little high for my daily driving. I'm really just hoping to hit around the 400-450 mark and leave it at that.
      I have the Ohlins and a new set of wheels in my garage. They're ready to go on the car, but I'm holding off on them for the time being, while I'm still working on my confidence in getting back into driving everyday.
      I'll have to look into a few more supporting mods. The car in its current state can definitely feel a little tighter around the corners.

    The Acd pumps are super fragile and very prone to internal corrosion. Evoscan should give you the codes for the price of a relatively inexpensive obd cable. Evolution Hydraulics is amazing and the gurus to check with.

    I had DSMs in the 90s/early 2000s and currently own a 99 3000GT VR-4, which is a very rare car.
    That said, the FP Green has been around since the early 2000s. It's a pretty large sized turbo for the 4G. At least back in the day, it was about the max you would want for a street car.
    I think for a mature adult spec, I'd look for something just a little bit smaller that has ceramic ball bearings. It will spool a lot faster and be more fun to drive regularly. Big turbo lag is super fun but makes the daily driver experience suck, especially if you need to upgrade to a heavy clutch like an ACT 2600.
    I'm not an Evo bro and all of my knowledge of the 4G is rusty/horribly outdated at this point so I can't point you anything specifically, but I do think tha FP Green might be too much turbo for a mature adult street car. Especially since you are an early shifter; they are more for top end power vs being responsive.
    In addition to FP, I'd call places like AMS, Road Race Engineering, and Sheepy to see what they would recommend for turbo and intercooler upgrades for your use case.

    • @ObsessedGarage
      @ObsessedGarage  Рік тому +1

      I'll see how it works out. If I go with the FP Green and end up not liking it I'll just get rid of it and grab something else.

Check Art Gennari turbos with probably S2 cams. They are good value for money. I'm glad you're going with the Öhlins like I have on my Evo. So which do you prefer? And why?

    • @CO_EVO_8
      @CO_EVO_8 9 місяців тому

      @jrodz808 I prefer the Evo 10 for daily driving. It's more adult like, more comfortable, and more reliable aside from the AYC.
      I prefer the 8 as a whole due to the simplicity of the drivetrain. 50/50 split, no ayc so I don't have to worry about pumps going out in the winter time. The 8 is way more raw and engaging. If someone said to pick one... I'd pick my 8 all day long.

    Trust I had a STI it’s alot more money for horsepower compared to the EVO THE EVO IS 500 hp without touching the block. I’m sorry the STI are not going to even get close with a open deck block. You need to a lot of to the engine on subbies.

    These cars were low 13's stock. If you truly have 350hp, that's most likely a mid-high 12 second car. Today's Golf R's with a 2.0L are doing mid 12's at 110mph 20 years years later and cost almost $50,000, so you're about right in what a current day Evo would cost.

    • @ObsessedGarage
      @ObsessedGarage  Рік тому

      Yeah, my estimations of the quarter mile were probably a little off.
      The price does seem about right though. I was comparing it to similar cars of around the same power and class. You'll be hard pressed to find a newer Subaru STI or Golf R below that price point.
