It's really fascinating how important the cardbacks are to you. As an out of box collector I really don't pay much mind to art. I really love how different everyone collects the same things.
I think about 50% of people leave them on the card and therefore the art is really important. I open them and keep carded so its perfect when a great figure is in great packaging.
@@BossksBounty Awesome! I try to get doubles of all Boba Fett’s since he’s my favorite! Do you still keep the windowless deluxe figures carded even if you can’t see the figure? I’ve always been curious about how carded collectors get that.

Death Star 2 version is the best and it’s so hard to find
VC115/Lost Line Vader is the Apex in my collection..is still one of the coolest figures I've ever brought both in packaging and out on display...if the translucent helmet doesn't bother you much..he works fantastic for duel scenes with luke etc and amongst other figures..heck especially if you give him one of the 90s Darth Vader figures lightsaber..since that saber hilt is accurate to rotj..but the way the light shines through those 90s Vader's lightsaber blades looks fantastic like resembling the effects of the original trilogy.
Best VC carded is VC 93. I don't have the new ROTJ Vader, so best figure is the Dark Times Vader.
Can’t really disagree with this! Great video. I never liked VC93 personally. The Dark Times Vader’s helmet can be popped on to the ROTJ body if you want a nice flush helmet! Also, the gloves are different. The Kenobi Vader is weird because he wears the ANH/RO gloves with horizontal stripes, but wears the inner tunic underneath the armor plate instead of over it as he does in ANH/RO. In all the other movies, he wears gloves with vertical stripes (matching the rest of the suit). I prefer the vertical striped gloves personally, the horizontal ones are a bit jarring. Every Vader suit and helmet throughout the movies is slightly different, but my favorite is actually Revenge of the Sith. Would love them to put out this body with the ROTS helmet on a card back from the end of the movie when they’re overlooking the Death Star. - Tyler
yeah i thought i mentioned the gloves are different. I doubt they are finished with using this sculpt.

Crazy the anakin version is rare. I have that figure I opened it back in the day but still have the cardback.
Black series episode 3 Vader 3.75 is still the best, I think. The helmet sculpt is superb.
Re: the Death Star 2 Vader, I have a loose one and when I put the helmet together there is no split. Could be a a manufacturing thing where some end up molded a few degrees out of spec and wind up with some misalignment and a gap but rest assured, some made it through unscathed.
Bossk your collection is so impressive. My jaw drops every time you upload one of these videos. Keep them coming! My only suggestion would maybe adding text to the screen to maybe indicate what year they were released. There’s so many figures it’s hard to keep track 😂

My favorite vader ever is the Death Star II one my helmet pieces fit together perfectly I have no idea how but they do and it’s absolutely a great figure

My favorite Vader is also the ROTJ (death star 2), that one I kept in the bubble for display. where as the Vader (dark times) is out of the box displayed, the articulation and materials are amazing. Both are so far my all time favorite since they can be used for so many different display layouts.
I have two of your no.1 pick - one to lead my Imperial army and one for my Vader cabinet collection - and with both of them the mask part of the helmet sits flush with the neck brace at the front. As far as I'm concerned, Hasbro knocked it into orbit with the Death Star II Vader. It is THE definitive 3.75 inch Darth Vader figure as far as I'm concerned, even though I love the Dark Times Vader and most of the others in your run down as well.

I would agree with the selections & I personally think Hasbro should call it good with Vader - they can sell "Dark Times" or "Death Star II" as many times as they want, but I don't think they need to give us a new version in the future. In my opinion "peak Vader" has been achieved.
Not sure they will make a new version but I can see them using the dark times version to make others.
I can't wait to get my ds2 Vader, shipped but won't get it till next Wednesday. He's definitely going to be my favorite, just wish I had an Imperial shuttle to do the unmasking scene.

New Vader (death star 2) is the best for me. The cardback is Anakin Skywalker really, but can't complain about figure, helmet and mask is seamless when on and paint on head is great

Good vid, agree with the top 2 for the same reasons. RotJ will always win out over the Kenobi series but Dark Times Vader is a banger of a fig 👍👍

I wholeheartedly agree with your #1 and #2: picks. I get what you're saying about the card backs, but considering just how awesome the figures are, I consider that to be a non-issue. I remember buying the Obi-Wan Kenobi version and thinking "This is the best 3.75" version of Vader they've ever done". About a month or so later I saw the ROTJ DSII figure with removable helmet and realized I had to have that one too. It's essentially the same figure except with the removable hand and helmet.
P.S. I I've had no issue with the helmet fitting flush.
I had that as child and wail some like no else reson i looked off my old toys or better wht left off it i rembeder them as by Matel made ,moment i had a 1977 Falcon as a Tie fighter wher playd with round playmobil space ship... the Tie fighter lost a wing and whent trashed , the falcon where given to my neview(sitser youngest) as he where 6 about he later losd it' . Some puppetsi found in the Playmobil Spaceship(i gues he find that ugly so it stay at grandm, theller ) Darth Vaider as ther Tie fighter pilot or stormtopper have Big divence to the show ;those a origin Merc. to the Fighter ther is a else copamay on it, not Mattel not Hasbro says : C GMFGI.1977 .Just on the origin darth vader the lightsaber disaper in the right arm mean is part off it , Cape a sabor is lost here .
As far as ROTJ Vader goes, I think swapping out head, collar and mask from old Legacy Collection Vader would make it a perfect figure, the collar and the mask look so seamless, that you wouldn't tell there's a head under there. The dome on ROTJ helmet is better, so you could still use it, but the head and the rest of the helmet is better on the old figure.
I noticed when comparing my dark times vader to the new ROTJ one, that the removable helmet is actually quite a bit bigger than the non removable version
Yeah I guess it needs to be to accommodate the head.
This one should have been renamed back to Anakin Skywalker. It’d be cool and easy repack.

Enjoyed the video. General q, do you consider the 3 packs as TVC? There was a "cave" Vader with a detachable battle damaged mask and was wondering where it ranked compared to the other figures.

It’s a repack from 3.75 black series but yeah it’s still TVC. But the worst to first I just rank figures on cards.

The only Vader I don't own that I really hope I can get someday is the emperor's wrath on the ROTJ card. However, I do have the Lost Line version. I think it looks pretty cool mixed in with all the other VC cards. Thanks for this video specifically ha. Okay, now I'm going to watch it.

I think it's amazing what they've managed to achieve on this scale with the latest Vader!,the sculpt,the fact that the helmet comes off like a HT figure & the details which back in the day wouldn't have been possible!,great looking figure!,& a good video! 👍🏾

The Black Series Empire Strikes Back Vader looks much better than any of the vintage collection figures imo.

I think you ranked them perfectly Bossk. Cannot wait to get the death star 2 vader.
Love the video, but when I judge a figure, I use 3 categories, 1 cardback, 2 figure, and 3 playability. So my worst is the Emporer's revenge. Why? Ok, the card gets a 4, it's a good cardback but not my favorite. The figure gets a 1. Why? As you said, it's scene specific, you can only use it for 1 thing, and that gives it's playability a 1Add them together then divide by 3 for it's rank which is a 2 (4+1+1=6÷3=2).
Next, much like you did comes the combined Empire Strikes Back, Return of the Jedi, Revenge of the Jedi, foil ( basically the same figure and photo on the card back. So the cardback gets a 4, figure gets a 2, and playability gets a 2. Mostly because of the articulation. Overall 2.6 (4+2+2=8÷3=2.6). Next is my Rouge One. Cardback gets a 4, while the photo looks great, it's the photo shopping that hurts it. Next the figure gets a 5 (looks great), playability gets a 3, can't take advantage of the leg articulation. Giving him an overall 4 (4+5+3=12÷3=4). Next is our newest Vader, I'm looking at that helmet assembly. Anyway, the card gets a 5. When I think of Vader in ROTJ, this is the first image that pops into my head. Figure gets a 4 (for now) because of your review and the problems with the helmet. Playability 5, is there any scene this Vader can't do? He gets an overall of 4.6. It's just a really good figure. Finally, the Dark Times Vader. What can I say? Card 5, figure 5, playability 4.5 (simply because he can't perform the helmetless scenes). Making his overall a 4.8. Well there you have it.
Thanks Chris, not sure how the Dark Times card can get a five when the Emperors Wrath only gets a 4! Dark Times is a photoshop.

Great video! It would be nice to see a figure of Darth Vader/Anakin Skywalker as he looked in the videogame of "Revenge of the Sith" (Anakin's 2nd skin), with a darker cloak, red lightsaber and force lightning.
Great video as always. As Vader is my favorite character along with rather surprisingly darth revan I was interested in your list. I'm still waiting on the jedi vader you have as number 1 and I can't find the rots anakin skywalker anywhere. I love the dark times vader I think he's the best vc vader we've ever got. I also think the vader image from ANH is the most iconic image ever of vader because it reminds me of the original vader all those years ago that I had. Anyway can't argue with your list. I do think rogue one vader would be top 3 for me but hey that's my opinion
my first would have to be esb vader he was my first darth vader 2nd would be return of the Jedi emperor’s wrath 3rd is rouge one 4th is the obi wan kenobi show

Not very high, plus it doesnt have a card back to I couldnt include. its not a great Vader though IMO
How am I going to talk about you leaving out the POTF 2 Vader's ? the answer is i'm not. It would be really awesome if most of those Vader's came with soft goods instead of plastic. But as always nice review of the First to the Worst.
TVC ranking only for me. It would be difficult to compare a bulky POTF Vader to what we just got. lol.

Are on about the late 90s power of the force Vader that had a removable one piece helmet and hand with Sebastian Shaw's face with eyebrows..also came with a freeze frame slide...that figure was awesome and still holds up well today despite it's basic articulation..it was so well painted for it's time..I have a couple on display with my saga collection and 30th Anniversary Vaders. 😎

For me Dark Times vader get number 1 due to helmet mold just being better but death star 2 is great as a toy to play with.
I’m off in Europe so I can’t get my Death Star II Vader until end of June/early July (they did arrive at the hobby store I preordered from). Yes, I did secure two units so I can keep one carded because THAT image speaks louder than any words about the Redemption Arc. I can’t wait to get one of them opened eventually.
Hasbro may do some questionable stuff and I’m polite. However, the effort for Vader is why we just got the best sculpt and articulation for that figure… which may never be topped. Again, hopefully the rest of the OG will receive that same effort but it’s Hasbro.

Great Video, Tim! Before Dark Times Vader came out, my son and I had a version of Vader that came with a swappable hand where he was blocking the laser blast from when Han shot at him in the banquet room in ESB. The palm of the hand has a little peg hole where you can put this kind of lame, rubbery blast effect. I've never been able to figure out what version of Vader this is, or when it was released. Any ideas?

Hard to disagree with your ranking. Just received my Death Star II Vader today and it really is incredible. I know it is only June, but Hasbro will really have to go some if this is not the figure of the year for 2023.

My favorite Darth vaders would be the older ones from the 2000's. I got a return of the jedi or empire Darth Vader from build a droids line, and I got a new hope Vader from saga collection I think. And then I got the retro collection kenobi and vintage collection kenobi vaders. I have a lot of Darth vaders in my collection, I prefer the older articulated releases because their arms go all the way around and outwards, the new version the kenobi version doesn't have that. Hasbro was using different materials with the older releases vs what they are still using now. The lightsaber on the older ones vs the new ones the tip of the older lightsaber is longer in length compared to new one. Back then the actors were using metal rods to fight compared to what they use now. They use toy plastic lightsaber rods to fight compared to the metal rods from long time ago. The metal rod props were better because it came out better with air brush.

I loved the ones from late 90s the 2006 saga collection and 30th anniversary...I think the rotj VC115 was the only one I got from vintage collection that I really wanted with my others.
Do you collect power of the force or no?
I used to, got rid of all my carded years ago. Still have some loose figures of course

That Rogue One figure i was never really a fan of felt like a step back from the ROTS one which was far superior

@@BossksBounty TDT is the best one, it's just old skoolers like us I think would prefer that figure just made a little more like the OT VADER. Yeah it was sacrilege with those awful plastic flaps, sucked. The new one's head and neck movement is pinacle of vintage collection

Also, I'm glad the new removable helmet Vader isn't a dead ringer for Sebastian Shaw. Even as a kid, I always thought his head looked like a giant egg. Kind of paunchy, and very not intimidating. Even if they still went with the head of a plain old guy under the mask, I always wished they had cast someone with more angular features - someone who looked more like Charles Dance, or Timothy Dalton.

Commenting before I watch! I think my favorite is currently the new ROTJ Vader followed closely by the Dark Times Vader, I am an opener so I might have bias but these two are superb figures and I can’t wait for the damaged Kenobi version
