Its heartbreaking. And life is unfair. Oushi was not really nice, he's communication and attitude came off and sounded like a jerk or some mean guy. But if you sit down and think about it Yuki didnt make any effort towards Oushi at all, probably because of his attitude compared to the rest of the people but i mean you have a guy, "a childfriend" who learnt sign language for you, your family no one learns it, no one knows it, your friends are comfortable with texting no effort on learning sign language minus Itsuomi but you have this guy and you don't even try to get to know him. People say Oushi didn't have her number but did she have his? Did she ever confront him about how she felt about his sign, attitude or words? Or even try to be a friend. She didn't even talk to him until he got her contact or texted him. Nothing Oushi's language might have been a bit harsh, but he sounded like an over protective sibling or that sorta mean caring friend you have. And although he was harsh he never bullied Yuki nor really treated her poorly, his attitude is well strange and he mostly comes off like a jerk but you can see that Yuki speaks to him head on, she doesn't shy away or anything she just wonders why he's mean to her or crass in his sign language. Which brings the issue of communication. Guys communication is a two way thing. Yes, Oushi was harsh, didn't and totally sucked at expressing himself etc but Yuki had that problem too. Oushi clearly wanted to talk to her and play with her as a child so he learnt sign and didn't stop learning, I mean his sister even forgot most of the language. Oushi should have done better as a person and try to build his friendship with Yuki but Yuki also just accepted the fact that Oushi speaks/signs like this, she never bothered to confront him or find out why like the female lead in a silent voice. Oushi probably had no idea that Yuki wanted to see the world, when he saw her desiring to do so, he's instinct to protect/shelter her took over and to Yuki it looked like caging her the few times they communicated. She'd also never tried to find out Oushi's thoughts, just simply guessing from his sign language and expressions which were curt or harsh and sometimes like a reprimand-dont want anyone taking advantage of your disability. No one wants to be told that they'd be taken advantage of because of one reason or the other even if it's the truth, such statements put us on a defensive (I mean I know my shortcomings, I know what am doing, am old enough, am not stupid etc), So another closed door between Yuki and Oushi🤦 Yet surprisingly, Oushi is one of the few people Yuki speaks freely with, she might not even realise it, she pouts, ignores, makes her stand even when he's sign language or words seem curt, in her own way she meets him head on. She does not respond curtly or assertively and strong like Anzu Hoshino(romantic killer) or FL (maidsama) when speaking to Tsukasa or Usui and the rest of the guys or even Nami in one piece, she just does her own thing, and he usually walks away from her, in the end🤦 another door closed

For context, his opinion is that deaf people should stay inside and not interact with the world because they’re too weak, and his he frequently tries to imply it’s stupid for the girl to go to university cause it’s a waste. So read his “protectiveness” in the context of that too. The series is a lot about the love triangle representing the real world two philosophies on deafness. The friend represents the school of thought that deafness is a disease that makes deaf people less than and they need to be controlled and protected and have less rights like children for their own good. And the white haired LI represents the school of thought that sees deafness as it’s own culture with it’s own language, and that deaf people and hearing people are equal and interact best when trying to see the world from each other’s point of view, like it’s a cultural exchange.
