QUESTION OF THE DAY: Do you think a drill and impact driver is one of the most essential power tools a contractor or home owner has? Would you use the hammer drill or the impact more?
I personally use the impact driver for driving and removing fasteners.... The drill I use for drilling holes in wood and metal. As a professional electrician, both are a must have....and Milwaukee is professional grade. Great video! .....I just subscribed to your channel.
Just picked up this set for $350 at HD with a free tool, so I grabbed the M18 grinder (brushed). This is by far the most powerful set I have owned. I know it has already been a few years since it was introduced, but sure am glad to have it. Thanks for the review!
Great review. I bought both of them as bare tools months apart when my Dewalt brushed ones finally bit the dust while remodeling my home. I was utterly blown away at the power of these tools. They made my Dewalt stuff seem like toys in comparison. Pair them with a high output battery and there is almost nothing these tools will not do.
I have this set .all my cordless is m18 fuel . Best cordless impact driver i have ever used and the hammer drill driver is great to .i use the drill where a lil more speed control and less power is needed with certain fastners but the three speed impact driver is pretty good when i dont wanna strip out the screws too. Very impressed in general with the m18 fuel line of tools .i have a bunch of them and am tryin to run a cordless jobsite as well when possible . Yup i am a pro carpenter for over 35 years and i am amazed with the progress cordless tools have made . Love your channel and the realistic reviews . Good job
Thanks man, appreciate it. I still have an electric Milwaukee Magnum Hole Shooter drill that's probably 20+ year old. It's doesn't have a brake on it, which seems weird nowadays. Cordless job sites are the way to go.
Both are absolute beasts, moved from Makita to Milwaukee, best choice I’ve ever made I do industrial CCTV for a living and the mini bandsaw is amaszing
What a great video! Milwaukee all the way. Replacing my tools this year, I decided to get tools I will enjoy using. Been using cheap drills and tired with performance issues in the middle of a job. Milwaukee appears to be a high-quality tool and I never went wrong spending more verses spending less.
I tried making one and the gen 3 hammer drill couldn't get it done. Not sure if it was due to the type of wood, battery choice, the fact that I was using a 2-9/16" switchblade bit with 12" extension, or a combination thereof. Will try downsizing to a 2" next time and see where that gets us.
Good demonstration. Milwaukee corded was the first hammer drill I owned. For drilling through bricks to run cable for homes. After that I found it was always handy. . Made the job easy. It's good to see the battery power hammer drill is equal, without the extension cord.
One of my older Milwaukee drills doesn't have a brake, which is weird to use now. I'm still hanging on to it for sentimental reasons. The power in cordless tools is amazing.
I understand that idea. I'll probably grab my M12 Installation driver most often, especially when going up on a ladder. I'm building a deck soon, so for that I'll use the M18.
Love Milwaukee M-18 fuel tools finally have to replace my old Milwaukee M18 I had for 12 years that's all I use Milwaukee M18 fuel. Buying power not just a name
I just purchased this kit off the Facebook Market Place for $260. Im an electrician and have been a Makita guy for years but ive used other peoples Milwaukee tools long enough to make me want to finally make the switch. Everything they make is superb quality and I love that they have a ton electrical oriented tools in their lineup. The only other company id put above Milwaukee is Hilti but theres no way im paying that kind of money lol.
Sounds like a good deal. I recall a contractor friend telling me several years ago that Makita was the best for hammer drills. I'd like to see his opinion now.
@@MarkThomasBuilder The Hilti SF6H A22 combi is quite a lot better than the Gen3 Milwaukee on power, build quality and reliability. I own both and the unreliability of the Milwaukee Gen 3 means I leave it behind and take the Hilti. I use the Milwaukee in the workshop where it doesn't matter if it packs up as I have the Hilti backup.
Even if I was only a home owner I'd still want contractor quality. Since it's not that much more expensive and battery power tools like Milwaukee last a long time.
Hey Mark nice video, I always enjoy you content. I have had my gen 3 kit for a little over year and Its still going strong and I freaking love it. I feel like the Milwaukee drill is one of the most powerful if not the powerfulest drill out there!!!
First tool I bought was an M18 Fuel angle grinder. I can drill by hand and it will be waaay less of a pain than removing/cutting hardened steel (by hand)! I have, of course, gotten drills since then, but I still hold that a grinder is a natural no1 with an impact driver or impact wrench at a clear no2. PS, that pre-drilled log you shown is sort of a copy of what is known as a "Swedish fire torch", it concentrates fire in a very good way.
The cordless angle grinder is a great tool to have. I made a video awhile ago showing the Swedish torch cooking a pot of coffee. It's a cool 1 log fire to bring to the beach.
First vid I've watched of yours as I'm considering buying the Milwaukee Impact driver. Really Like how you present your videos, very informative, straightforward and without some idiot shouting half the time :)
@@MarkThomasBuilder Best real review I've seen yet, just got the kit this week and of course had to pick up a couple HO 3ah compact batteries to go with it, they really slim the tools down and add even more grunt, they seem to be lasting as long as a standard 5ah so I'm real happy right about now. Also a makita guy going red for the first time.

It is, it’s got so much power on both the hammer drill and impact driver, I use my M12 tools more often for lighter duty work and projects, I got one set on sale from the Depot and the other from Acme Tools.
I know what you mean. I like the M12 Installation Driver for light duty projects, like going up on a ladder and clipping it to my belt. You barely know its there.
I just bought the kit but I notice two things 1. the battery is a little loose, gives a slight movement to the sides 2. when charging the batteries it makes a noise It is normal ???

The plastic case lid locks killed it for me , since the last kit i purchased had all metal locks. So now i both this set to replace the one that was stolen from me.
Oh man that's too bad they were stolen. I like the big handle on this drill. I don't use it too much, but when I do, it's a solid upgrade that keeps up with my toughest demands.
I’ve used gen 3 for work for about a good 6 months and my only complaint is the bits don’t stick after a while and it’s a really really heavy drill/impact
I use the impact driver for Automotive repair...Use a 1/4" and 3/8" adapter.. They saved me hours doing it by hand. Pius my wrist does not hurt anymore.. Next up..1/2" impact driver.
Milwaukee is an second best to snap on. But my Dewalt impact gun & hammer driver are very strong product. My impact 3/4 inch takes off my 18 wheelers lug nuts off. But I got a buddy with the 1 inch Milwaukee impact gun that has 1200 pounds of breaking force. Great video
Thanks! I don't own any Snap On tools yet. I'm guessing they're pretty expensive? I would've liked to had that 1" Milwaukee a time or two. I've had to grind bolts my mower spindles before. Anti-seize seemed to help after that.
Hey bro , could you give me the code label of that 3/4 inch DeWalt impact wrench that you have , I need something heavier to screw large coach bolts in bush cabin ,and how much Newton Meters does it have thanx

How do you like the trigger modulation on the impact driver, say for smaller fasteners like 3" deck screws? Is it easy enough to feather the trigger and keep good control and stay on speed 3?
Hey Mark the gen 3 impact you demonstrated I have one I was wondering if you ran into the problem that I am experiencing the chuck or the collet is no longer holding the bits in like a 1inch spade bit or a simple magnetic bit holder to drive screws? Has this happened to you and do you know if milwaukee has a way to fix this problem now?
I haven't had that problem yet. I'll let you know if I hear something. I was scheduled to go to their NPS show in June, but unfortunately it's postponed.
@@MarkThomasBuilder I have loads of tools already, but was impressed when I had a shot of the Makita I did some research Inc watching your video and the Milwaukee came out on top. Plus lucky to find the twin pack kit on offer. Thanks.
@@teknotec very powerful, if anything too powerful for small screws. Will sink a 6" coach bolt up to the hilt in an unpiloted piece of birch. Awesome tool. Great for standard or large screws, the power and stamina of the battery pack is hard to believe.
Hi, thanks so much for your upload and for sharing love your content. Are they both the most current and powerful Milwaukee currently offers? I know you did say they are about 16 months old
Thanks, yes these are the latest models that Milwaukee offers. I posted a video about their Pipeline online event where they're announcing the new tools August 20th.
I've read and seen on UA-cam among various other sites the impact driver is flawed. The collet was engineered poorly. Bits have been falling out during multiple applications and functions. VCG Construction has several videos on this issue. Have you experienced these issues that many people continue to have?
I've heard about that issue, but haven't had a problem yet. I rotate between several impacts, as I'm constantly testing different brands. I'll have to look into that some more and get back with you.
Yes.....My Gen 3 impact has collet issues and all my Milwaukee gear have trigger issues apart from my fuel circular. It works then you put it down, pick it up again and it doesn't work. Many UA-cam videos about these issues. I really loved my Milwaukee gear at first after getting sucked in by all the hype. After a short time it all started playing up and working intermittently. Tried all my batteries but were the same. Sent it back to Milwaukee.....still the same. Switched to Hilti and find the SF6H A22 combi more powerful and better built. The Hilti impact isn't as powerful as the Gen3 but its much better built and much nicer to use......plus that 20 year warranty and 24 hour turnaround.
@@MarkThomasBuilder Yes...I use the blue Bosch (blue fluting) they will drill wood, steel and concrete/brick. They will drill semi engineering bricks without hammer action! Be careful not to overheat them though as the tips move out of line.
Yes, these are new tools that I put to the test. These tools were sent to me to demonstrate in my video, as I mentioned in my description. Once in awhile, I'll make a 1 year update on some tools.

I was scheduled to go to their NPS show in June, but unfortunately it's postponed.
markthomasbuilder Ok thanks for the response
I have dewalt tools, but I love Milwaukee too!🥳
Milwaukee is known for "nothing but heavy duty".
What bit are you using when drilling through the log and where can I get one?
Here's a link to one from the Home Depot.... homedepot.sjv.io/Ea1xk9
Wish we had that set in my country.Belize pomona
Someday, I would think Home Depot could ship you one.
Love the tools! Love the beach log creation more. Great vid just gained yourself a new sub.
Thanks man! That's awesome!
Just bought one today!
You'll be glad to have it when you have the big and small projects. There's plenty of power there.
@@MarkThomasBuilder I have loads of tools already, but was impressed when I had a shot of the Makita I did some research Inc watching your video and the Milwaukee came out on top. Plus lucky to find the twin pack kit on offer. Thanks.
@@MrJohnandMargie how are the tools holding up for you? Any issues? I'm looking to buy this kit and I'm educating myself about cordless tools
I posted a video about their Pipeline online event where they're announcing the new tools August 20th.
markthomasbuilder OK, thanks so much for the information and the quick reply stay safe God bless
Very good what's the price and how can I get it processed and shipped to me.
I provided a link to these tools available from The Home Depot. You can normally get it shipped fast right to your door.
Cool
the best
These two are an amazing combo!
❤️❤️❤️
😄👍
q maquinas increibles! me encantan
😀👍
Mark can the charger take 220V from the wall ?
No, it's a 120v charger.
thanks.
You're welcome
That is the third gen isn’t it?
Yes, that's correct.
I haven't experienced it yet. Thats my only gripe and reason I wish I got the surge.
Wait! An impact that doesn’t hold a bit??? Sounds like a paperweight or a door stop.
Impact driver gets good use for me
It really is a handy tool with lots of power.
What's the best bit to drill concrete in this M18 Hammer Drill?
I seem to go with Bosch when it comes to concrete bits. I'm sure Milwaukee makes good ones, but it's just my personal preference over the years.
@@MarkThomasBuilder Yes...I use the blue Bosch (blue fluting) they will drill wood, steel and concrete/brick. They will drill semi engineering bricks without hammer action! Be careful not to overheat them though as the tips move out of line.
this tools don't look likey they are months into use but more like factory new.
Just a quick question, is this video sponsored?
Yes, these are new tools that I put to the test. These tools were sent to me to demonstrate in my video, as I mentioned in my description. Once in awhile, I'll make a 1 year update on some tools.
Of course it is. Red China gives their tools away to “influencers” and charge the sheeple at Cheapo for red ryobi.
Is the battery charger 110 or 220?
110
What was the price for this is this American or Canadian
$349 USA sale price.
what serial number is your screwdriver
It would’ve been nice to know the price you pay for this is this American money for Canadian
I provided a link to Home Depot price. It was just on sale from $399 to $349 USA price.
I prefer milwaukee always ,I have a combo the same it is the best tools
It's a great combo set, plenty of power!
You thing the m12 fuel impact can drive that huge lag?
I haven't tried the m12 impact yet, so it's hard to say. I wouldn't be surprised if it did, but I'm thinking that it can't.
Should test the makita sub compact drill combo kit!!!
I've tried their sub compact SDS Plus hammer drill, which is a beast!
