The only problem with this shortcut is that viewers have to watch the video until the end and I am struggling to achieve that. Without viewers watching until the end the information in this video is useless.
Same here, our viewer retention rates until the end of the video are always below 20%, and considering how little views we have anyway, I'm not quite sure how to implement this shortcut.
The ones that watch to the end are the ones you want. There are billions of people in this world and you only need a few. A few being millions 🎉 Try not to think small and keep trying to get better at keeping more people watching. But the ones you have until the end are your most dedicated audience. Keep building that audience. They watch your videos and watch more of them.
Exactly. Not all viewers watch our videos until the end. If they did, end screen thumbnails would work perfectly and we didn't need CTA at the end of every video. I think the main problem is that it is hard to find the right audience for our channels. Speaking for myself as a viewer; if I'm interested in something, I watch it until the end and ask for more; but if not, I wouldn't bother myself watching it. It is the same for everyone. So the main problem is reaching out the right audience.
Try learn how to make people watching your videos until the end. Because this is actually real! I started doing this method that VidIQ advised us on, from a video they made months ago, The views are not many, but they are equal to many minutes of viewing by people!! People watch those videos until the end!!! 🤯
I put value in the beginning of my videos, the middle, and the end. The end is where I put a lot of value because I give a positive message. I definitely don’t get any recognition for it or it hasn’t been a game changer for me.

Gotta work on this. I do tend to end my videos with ‘stay happy, keep your peace and I’ll see you in the next one’ but I don’t give them a ‘next one’ to click on. Even though I use the end screen and there is a video to click on. So…work to be done and get out of a habit of saying the same thing. I got this 💪🏻👍🏻😊

I love the helpfulness that you all provide but I wish there was a growth video specifically for gaming so it could be more understandable for that niche as well.
Being a health channel, I focus on a few things to help get people on track, to discover why they may be feeling a certain way, or how to manage conditions they have, without making corporations extra rich. With that type of content, if people are interested in learning more, that automatically would be enough to get many to check out other videos. Definitely some great ideas in this video! I will implement some :D Brand new, micro channel, under 30 subs so anything to grow, without sounding gimmicky or advertising false promises would be helpful!
Great advice but make sure to do ALL 3! Doing just the first 2 (ie. leaving an empty cliffhanger) is just as likely to turn your viewers AWAY and shrink your watch time.
I just got my first monetization payment after starting this channel this March. 🥰 Now, my #1 video has almost 4k watch hours on its own! You can do this, I promise!
The issue with most of these "how to grow on youtube" videos is that 99% of the time, they teach you how to make videos where you're helping other people grow on youtube, so it's like an endless cycle. I'm not an "education" niche channel, so I wish that these "how to grow on youtube" channels would tell you hpw to grow or make money without teaching others how to do something or selling courses. Like, as a travel vlogger, how do I grow specifically? I wish there were videos focused on that, or just specific niches and not just "this is how you grow a channel that helps people grow their channels". I do find VidIQ and their TubeTalk podcast helpful, I just wish they focused on growing channels that AREN'T "educuational/how to grow online" focused.
So many youtubers definitely do that. This was very informative. Also I'm at 959 subscribers now, I'm getting even closer to 1,000. Honestly I don't know if I can implement the advice from this video into most if any of my videos, but it is still good to know.
That is so clever and beautifully explained. I can wait to try that in my next video. I really like the way that you deconstruct something that see everyday but no one really notices the effect. Make more videos like this. As always
Very helpful but only if you have a YMYL or How-to channel. How do you apply this strategy if your channel is focused on Sports or Entertainment or Gaming?
I do song tutorials - basically how to play specific songs on piano. How can you leverage this technique for something which is an isolated topic. It's hard to know what song someone wants to learn next so how can you entice someone in this way for a topic like that?
It works, been doing something like that and I currently have 4.7k watch hours this last year, people do follow the chains of videos. Now, if only the sub count grew as fast so I could get to 1k lol
I just begun my channel this summer and this is actually something I didn't think about despite how obvious it seems after I've just been told here, great advice!
Yes this is so true... I try to say "If you loved this video then you should watch this one next" and point in th screen. My end screen click through rate has gone from next to nothing to 2-3% since doing it. And so if you get 2000 views a 2% click through to next video is another 40 views. And if EVERYONE of your videos does this it works.
i’m 3+ years on UA-cam and have not reached 4 k watch time, yet I’m still here. Keep going, guys, don’t give up! Best wishes to all the small channels out Let’s go!
2:13 I've noticed a lot of new videos are putting captions in the middle instead of the end. Does this help keep viewers watching more videos? Since they might not have made it to the end of the video. Other argument is they might want to click on it at the end of the video because they want to watch the whole video first.
I think it’s actually just a bug. I saw it happen on one of my own videos, so I checked the End Screen timings in Studio. They were still where I set them, but every video is doing this for some reason.
I just started my UA-cam channel 1 week ago, and I have a 11 subscribers and I'm happy about this cause it's my first time to got 11 subscribers, who's reading this u will be successful soon!🎉❤❤
How would this apply to channels that create animations or story/skit videos, where the ending is crucial and every second counts? For example, on my channel, every moment, including the ending, is important. All dialogue needs to be directly related to the story to maintain immersion; otherwise, it disrupts the experience
How can you bridge viewers to the video if the next video isn't recored yet. For example you've posted part 1 but part 2 isn't even recored yet ? This is the case for most uploads.
Just want to say thanks, my channel is almost 4 months old, just made a 100 subs a couple days ago, starting a gaming channel in 2024 is tuff, I don't think I would be this far along if it wasn't for vidIQ
The algorithm offers an extremely tight window of opportunity where it pushes your video out, and the CTR is relatively high, at first depending on the number of people that click, then as it falls off, the CTR falls, the video recommendation falls, and even with all this, this tactic is dependent on the average viewer sticking through to the end. So, unless you're making 72 second long videos (average viewer dips out after 30-48 seconds) the retention percentage is trash, video struggles to breath, then sinks after about 72 hours into the murk of the video wasteland. Shorts attention spans have transitioned over into the long form content... it's becoming harder and harder to keep anyone glued to the video for even a minute.
