I had the same reaction. It sounded (to my ear) to have a warm sound with less edge. Even the larger blank of the DW sounded a bit edgier -okay I don't think edgier is what I mean - it sounded like you were working harder to produce the same melody. I've really been wondering about this mouthpiece question, and this was a pretty nice test drive. To my ear the "standard" Bach 5AL had my least favorite sound the the megatone, large blank DW, then my favorite was the "standard" Wick 5AL. Any thoughts on the G-Ws?
Nice job on various mouth pieces. Very informative. Could you do a Monette trombone mouth for jazz and classical. Large and small bores. Keep up the good work! Eric

I find it depends on the mouthpiece but in general I prefer a bit heavier blank; if it gets too heavy I will like I lose flexibility but oftentimes I feel like I have a harder time centering on light-weight pieces...
Dang, the 5AL Wick (non-HW) sounds much different than any of the others. Thanks for the demonstration!

Very nice playing. The second mouthpiece DW heavy top sounded thinner. The first DW was the nicest...fuller and mellow

Great video! Very informative! I play on a Denis Wicke 9BS!
The DW 5AL (25.73 mm) takes more control due to the larger throat and back-bore, regular or heavy top.
Nice playing.
Wow! The megatone sounded really good!
What piece of music is being played?
It is the Ewazen Sonata for Trombone and Piano (his first trombone concerto.) A classic in the tenor trombone world and one of my personal favorites!
Keith is a very good trombone player. The difference to my ears is minimal.
Does anyone know the name of this excerpt?
He mentions it in the video, it's the beginning of the Ewazen Sonata.
I’m more of a heavy mouthpiece piece person
