Do you want to learn more about your cat too?! I used the Wisdom Panel "Complete for Cats" DNA kit to learn about the genetic health, ancestry, and traits of my four cats & three of my foster kittens. Watch to find out the results, and then tell me if you try it for your cat! #kittenlady #wisdompanel #wisdompanelpartner
The dilution gene explains why Fergie loves water, he's just genetically required to dilute himself :D :D ;)
I see what you did there! :-)
Bah dum shhh
Lol.
xD
Cats are liquid though
I'm happy to see that Ferg is still alive and thriving.
Me too, and that he's enjoying kitties visiting smaller than himself. Hope he has some years in him!
Ferguson is so handsome!
He's looking so grown-up, too! I'm delighted he's overcoming the odds 🥰
@@piratekit3941 Ferguson is a good foster dad or big brother.
Me too I’m so happy he’s still alive and thriving and I can tell that all the cats are living the best life!
Glitter coat variant sounds like you've got a shiny Pokémon
Yeah true
I do call my bengals the shiny Pokèmon of the crew so at least it's a thing for me.
People have accused me of photoshopping my cats for that sparkle but nope their coat really just does this naturally some just more or less and mine happen to both have a lot of sparkle.
@@DieAlteistwiederda I just discovered I have a shiny Pokémon, but mine doesn't really show up in pictures, I'd love to see yours tho, shinny kitties sounds so cool
I discovered a while ago that one of my cats is a shiny girl. I always said that she looked glittery, especially when she is in the sun.
The looks on the cats' faces when getting swabbed were hilarious; like: "Lady, what do you think you're doing?" 😂
I work at the lab WP sends the swabs to and I get a lot of notes every week from pet owners saying “sorry, we tried our best, but (pet name) wasn’t happy, hope you got enough DNA!” hahaha
@@msboogie3338 😂👍
@@msboogie3338 That sounds hilarious 😂
I can just imagine cats smacking the thing away from their mouth, offended 😂
1:14 Ferguson taking care of the babies!! I can’t cope 😫💙💙💙
RIGHT! He's just the best!
we stan uncle fergie
Like his parents 🥰
he’s the kindesttt
What people don't understand about cat traits is that while certain traits can be associated with certain breeds, traits can be found all across various domesticated cat breeds. Also, it's great to see Ferguson becoming such a big boy!
An example of that is a cat I once had. Her fur had the color and texture of a Turkish Van but I knew who her daddy and momma were: both West Virginia holler cats!
a large lad
@@yzettasmith4194 Yeah! I have a cat who looks and acts like a ragdoll, but his parents are Appalachian holler cats too, lol
This is true about humans, too. Traits are found across all populations, the differences between the populations are the *rate at which the trait appear in the population.* Specific genetics can be associated with certain population groups/lineage(in humans, races), but that doesn't mean it doesn't exist in other populations. Polydactyl cats are an interesting case. Hemingway's cats have polydactyl paws (there's, from what I understand, an entire colony of Snow White's progeny who all have the toes). There's also a high rate of polydactyl cats in Britain. They're somewhat rare in other locations, but you'll find a six toed cat pop up occasionally everywhere because sailors once considered six toed cats lucky and spread the trait around.
@@yzettasmith4194 mine had folded ears...
When the vet asks what breed my cat is I say, “American Cutie.” 😍
❤️ this! Gonna have to steal to use with my fuzzy buddy!
lol, when people used to ask me what nationality I am. I would reply North American Mutt. Because there are many different nationalities in my lineage. Now, I say Canadian. Cuzz I am a Canuck through and through, and my lineage isn't shall we say, How I define myself. Oh, the reason I was asked so much about my nationality, is because I have a Native ancestry, on both sides, along with French Scottish, Irish, English, Cree, Sioux, and one more I always forget, But, Basically, it was always a racist question, on account of I am too "Native" to be with the Whites, and too White to be with the Natives, so I never belonged to either of them. Black people often experience the same prejudices within their culture as well, When a Black person is so light they can pass for white, their Black community often shuns them, and the White community often shuns them as well. Anyway, I love mixed breed people and animals alike, So American Cutie, North American Mutt, it is!!
😆 I say "Tuxedo Beauty" for my bubby's breed when asked!
I’m super going to use that!
😂
I kept thinking you were saying “delusion,” not “dilution” lol!! I was like, no poor Ferguson isn’t delusional D:
She was pronouncing it as delusion instead of dilution 😂😂 I was like ummm what lol
That’s what I thought too lol
The 100% bengal is kind of hilarious because bengal cats started off as a cross of domestic cats and Asian Leopard cats. I imagine that at this point they've gotten consistent "purebred" breeding of bengals though.
Anything F4 and down (four generations removed from the wild) is considered a purebred. Anything above that will be an outcross. Most bengals, since they are the most popular breed and the breeders of them are extremely over saturated (go to any show and you’ll find so many bengals), are quite removed from the Asian leopard cat. There are a few catteries breeding with these ALCs but they don’t breed well, require extreme housing and care, and go for a huge price tag. Your garden variety Bengal probably has 8 or more generations of Bengal behind them, so they’re going to show as Bengal.
@@JessaHawke Thanks! That's pretty cool to know!
@@JessaHawke Also cross-breeding with wild animals is forbidden in some countrys as it is considered cruel. So no breeding of bengals and savannahs with leopards.
Glitter ist pretty common amoung bengals. But it will almost only show in 100% bengals because it can only be visible if inherited from both parents. Also charcoal is often seen in european bengals.
I thought Bengals' were a cross between domestic and ocelots? I could be wrong.
@@LaRosaHjort I was going off the wiki page; you may be thinking of Savannah cats which are a cross between a serval and a domestic cat.
We've always called those diluted ginger cats "butterscotch" cats.
When they get really pale, I’ve called them “buff” color.
I like that one better! we call them salmons :D
that clip of you swabbing moz and the sideways look he was giving cracked me up
I went to the shelter with my friend Peggy who adopted a cat from our local shelter. she later blasted on her social media that she had adopted an Egyptian Mao. I was there Peggy, Martin is an American short haired brown tabby Peggy. Said it right on the cage Peggy. He doesn't even have spots Peggy.
😂😂😂😂😂
Two vets told me my greybie was a Russian Blue. Yeah, right. He was found on the streets of Paterson, NJ as a kitten. So I don't think so. He has many of the physical and personality traits of a Blue, but so what? He's grey, he's beautiful, and he makes me laugh. So I don't care what "breed" he is.
@@jillcnc sounds like a beautiful kitty 😍 Your cat is very lucky to have you ❤
Non-pedigree Egyptian Mau? 🙂
@@jillcnc I have cats and I also care for many strays. I’ve noticed that cats of same or similar colors seem to have very similar personalities.
I didn’t know the glitter coat variant was a thing but I literally have a cat named Glitter because her fur has always been shiny.
I had a cat who I would swear had the glitter coat variant. She was a grey tabby but I always said she was a silver tabby because her coat literally glittered in most lights, but especially in sunlight.
@@Luubelaar did your tabby used to glitter in moonlight?
Glitter coat is a typical Bengal trait. Our two F3's both have/had glitter coats.
My 2 cats are a black trash eater and a tuxedo mauler. Both rescues! Who cares about anything else. I love them!
LOL. I have Black Trash Eaters too! I think one is part goat. (And I’m not talking G.O.A.T.).
Ferguson is looking fantastic and my heart absolutely melted looking at him being such a good big brother to the foster kittens. Coco's DNA completely surprised me. Never saw that coming. Hahaha!
i always noticed that Haroun's coat had an unusual glow to it, but did not know it was called a glitter coat lol.
Colorpoint is also found in ragdolls so that may be why Candyman has that pattern. But yeah, I don't get people's obsession with breeds. Domestic cats are extremely varied and beautiful, and are factually healthier than most purebreds. Breed shouldn't be a deciding factor in adopting a cat IMO. Save a cat, adopt a rescue - it's infinitely more important.
I have a domestic shorthair myself, but I still get why people might want a specific breed. If you get a cat from a shelter, you really have no idea what it's gonna be like personality-wise or activity-wise, because the way it acts at the shelter doesn't necessarily tell you anything. With breeds, while there's obviously variation between individuals, there's still an established baseline. If you want a calm, mentally stable cat that doesn't mind a lot of handling and will probably be chill with your young children, you know you'll probably get that with a purebred ragdoll. I can understand wanting some approximation of certainty when adding a new member to your family.
All that said, I live in a country with a MUCH smaller stray problem than the US, so I know my views are probablt coloured by that.
@@hanna-writes Not only that, but if you're allergic to cat fur, but still want a cat, you have to look into adopting a purebred allergenic cat.
And finally, I think a lot of people want to adopt a cat from a special breed if they can find one. Adopt a Siamese looking cat, and you get your Siamese and the cat gets a home.
I think you are underestimating how much you can learn about a rescue cat’s personality through foster parents/shelter workers/ meet n greets. It usually gives a very good idea over activity level and outgoing qualities. Personalities tend to range quite a lot on pure breeds too!
A big part of it is what you want from your cat. I think a lot of cats will adjust to your preferences, at least to a certain extent.
All of the babies tested are 100% precious! I'm so in love with Fergie.
I laughed out loud at Fergie! “…he’s always wet!”
I now understand why Rudy is the color he is. I didn’t realize that there is a dilution gene, but that definitely explains him. He’s buff orange. His personal favorite was the tub. Every time my husband started a bath, Rudy came running! We joked it was that he wanted “Dad Soup”.
Dad soup 🤣
Love your cat’s name, Rudy means “ginger” in Polish!
@@m1997 that’s perfect! His full name is Rudolph Valentino because he’s such a lover.
i did one of these for my long haired kitten, i thought she was just a normal cat but it turns out the majority of her dna is ragdoll and mainecoon! a pleasant surprise but that means she’s probably gonna be really big 😅
More cat, more fluff, more cute
It's a win-win
OMG Ferguson is so big, I'm glad to see him doing so well.
My girl Mallaidh is a dilute orange (cream) ticked tabby: half fawn Abyssinian and half orange American Domestic Shorthair tabby. After we adopted her I went down a rabbit hole researching cat coats and genetics. It's fascinating!
My 2 girls are happily 100% Tuxedo coloured moggies, and I love every wee bit of them from tip to tail. 😻😻
DNA results start at 5:19!
Fergy! I'm so happy to see him! He's beautiful! I have always assumed that I have a siamese mix cat because of his blue eyes. He has a darker tail and ears, blue eyes and a tabby face. I'm definitely going to get this kit for him.
Sounds like the “lynx” colorpoint.
They are all 100% adorable. So happy to see Ferguson doing so well!
So interesting!
It looks like Ferguson is doing great!
Do you have to get vet treatments often?
You are the ONLY reason that he is alive! Your dedication and commitment is amazing!!!!! 🥰🥰🥰🥰🐈🐈🐈🐈
They looked soo frickin cute when she's inserting those cotton buds in their mouths omg 😍😍 it's like they're eating lollipops 😅😻
So interesting to see the extra medical and traits information! :)
Same here 😃
I wish my Meggy girl was still with me so I could have done this kit with her! She will forever remain a mystery in that sense!!
Wtf it’s wrong with poeple? Why would you dislike this video for ? 😓 this woman right there she has a big ❤️ and she does the right thing ! Keep on doing it
Our Effie Mae (we snagged her and a sister from a farmers market - and promptly got them spayed) is definitely more fuzzy than her sleek sister, but pretty sure they are just the ol' American shorthair at least the clinic we got them spayed at figured, bc who really knows!
It was fun to watch your kitty lineage vid :)
Ferguson's growing up so fast! Glad to see he's getting along with the little ones. :3
I tested my cat actually, and our suspicions were confirmed, she is 1/8 cervil, or 1/4 savannah cat. We rescued her and were told she was hyperactive, and boy was that an understatement.
That's not good because 99.999% of the people on this channel **excluding me*,* will viciously and mercilessly shame you and verbally attack you for having a cat like that.
@@LucysLifeInTheBabyAliveWorld It wasn't intentional lol we just adopted her from a local shelter cause her mom was a stray. She looks pretty normal and honestly it just comes through in her legs / body shape. Idk we just adopted her as a lil baby thinking "oh normal cat"
Well Servals are wild animals and when we mix wild with domesticated we often have a very confused animal that we expect to be domesticated but it still carries the traits of a wild animal as well. it can be difficult for these types of pets (and difficult for their owners).
@@SuzetteG316 she's doing very well :D we just have to accommodate for a special diet
I enjoyed this SO MUCH! I love you Fergieeeee! I feel so happy every time I see him ❤ he's the sweetest little dude 😍
Wow!! Little Fergie has grown to be a handsome looking cat. So proud of you, Fergie!!
The cats with "glitter" coats are wow so special! I didn't know about this trait until I saw my neighbour walking his two bengalese in bright sunlight last summer. They looked like shimmering statues in green grass. As shiny as some beetles. It's really something different and quite striking.
YUP!!! Best cat breed is rescued!! All of the fur-kids are that breed, blended with other breeds. Love all kitties, but Ferguson has stole my heart & I don't really want it back. He & I battle the same kidney disease. I always say to myself, "If Fergie can fight & survive... So can I!!" My little inspiration & hero.
Thanks for sharing him & all the others with us!!
I got your 2022 wall calendar and the day-to-day one, too. Thank you and Andrew for 2021!
Thank you Kitten Lady for all the work you do to take care of these beautiful helpless Animals, God Bless
The most surprising thing about this is that all the cats tolerated being swabbed without clawing her hand off
That's fascinating! I wish I could have done that with my first cat years ago. He was a short hair tuxedo cat but with the strangest fur! All his black fur, including the short hair on top of his head, was white on the bottom half and black on the top half, so you could even see the white poking through on his shoulder blades when his fur shifted as he walked. It was like how if you look at the individual strands on a tabby you can see different shades in layers, but with stark white and black. And a vet once told us he had some siamese in him because he had that classic deep siamese yowl.
That is called silver shading! There are different degrees of it, from smoke over shading to chinchilla (tipped) and occurs in silver (white hair tips) and gold. There also is a tabby variant which causes the classic silver tabby that is especially known from British Short Hairs but also bengals! So if it was about 50%, he was probably silver shaded, though from my overall experience with how often each of these variants occur and your description, smoke seems more likely still.
yeah sounds like smoke as soulcatcher said
My childhood cat was the same! Long dark fur on the tip of the hair, but white/light gray on the root of the hair. She was beautiful.
Sounds pretty 😀
My cat used to have that white under coat but he was black and fluffy. Someone told me he was a Norwegian first cat but I wish I could've done this for him too.
I've always wanted to try one of these!
Same ikr! :)
I’d love to try one but I’m pretty sure they’d mostly get my dna because Freya would used all 18 of her pointy pointy vetoes
I've been watching you over the years, and seen pictures of you and your dad, and then I made the connection like wow your dad is awesome. I've been a fan for over 40 years. I also love what you do for thoughs cute babies that are sick. You are very knowledgeable. Keep up the great work that you do. You and your dad both rock in different ways. Take care.
Just brought it! I can’t wait to see how my 2 cats are doing! Thanks for putting the link in the description 😊
I love Coco!!!! Your channel is the best, thank you for taking care of so many kitties over the years! If I had the ability to foster cats full-time I would totally do it too!
It’s so interesting to see the medical information and other traits!! Cocos lineage was wild lolol. All of them are beautiful! 💜
Candyman being partially ragdoll makes sense. My sister's Ragdoll has red ears and when I saw Candyman for the first time he reminded me of my sister's cat. I also never knew that domestic cats could have a long fur gene variant. Super interesting to know because I thought Moz'd have to be a maine coone as well, because I've had a couple of Maine coons in my life and he reminded me a lot of them.
I got my rescue mutt's DNA tested a few years ago and he's 50% Staffordshire terrier, 12.5%: Australian Cattle Dog, Beagle, Mutt, and Yorkshire Terrier
They really have “mutt”? DOESNT that take away the validity
@@Alexandra-ng1ih one of his great-grandparents was a complete mixed breed mutt 🤷
I thought this was about a cat and LOLed at "my cat is 50% terrier" xD
@@soulcatcher_pajome "Why, yes, my cat is part Yorkie." 🤣
This was interesting, and Coco is so cool, all hidden treasure. Fergie is growing well, he's so big now that it's amazing. Thank you for giving him a chance to experience life.
Im a massive fan I watch your show on UA-cam every day thank u for so much insperation an kindness
The expressions the cats had when you were taking the samples were so funny. 😁 Especially Moz. ❤️
Cats are so interesting. They are just lovely little friends with interesting backgrounds. It's nice to know more about their medical background.
I need to get my hands on this stuff! We have two cats, and I'd be really interested to see what comes up!
So fun! It seems that coat type is not the most accurate way to guess breed. Body/face shape are better indicators. E.g. Norwegian forest cats have a very distinct nose.
All your cats and kittens so precious and beautiful nice video 🇬🇷🐾🐈😻😺😼👍🐾💞💖
I loved this. That was beautiful. Thanks for a lovely video.
I can’t wait to try this on my tabby :) Thanks for sharing, Hannah!
Amazing results and thank you for sharing, it’s really interesting 🧐.
This is so interesting! Thank you for sharing!
LOVE that we can all do this!! How cool! 😻😻😻
I just got my results today for my 2 cats and I am so shook! My cat who I have always been certain is the literal poster child for American Bobtail has not a single percentage in him! And he didn't have any of the short tail variants or any short-tailed breed. His tiny tail is an absolute mystery but it was so fun to find out the truth!
I am extremely happy to see Fergie is very healthy and happy with all you other cute kittens! Also I am a huge fan!
The cats are so adorable! 😻😻
I was hoping that Ferguson was part Catfish XD
Ferguson is getting so big! I love him.
This is the first time I’ve seen your full time cats. Cute!
I am glad to see that Ferguson is alive and thriving. Lucky little apricot.
That was fun, interesting, and educational!
This was so fun and interesting to watch!
I find that both my ginger tabby’s go through colour shift. They get darker as fall and winter come, and go to cream coloured in the spring/summer.
My panthers get a bit paler in summer.
One, barely at all, another goes chestnut brown, and the boy gets his mom's tabby pattern show through, in brown on black.
Just bought this for my rescue found on the streets at four months old! Pretty sure she's just a domestic short hair torti but she's four now and having the health results is important to me. Excited to see what it comes back with!
Just ordered 2 for my girls. I can’t wait to see what the results are!
This was so interesting and fun!!!
Even though I completely agree with you and do not care which breed a cat is at all - these videos are so interesting and fun to watch!

Ohh glitter gene variant sounds interesting !
It's awesome that candyman has the colour point variant!
Wow Coco has so many cat breeds in her ancestry !
Great to learn all this information! 😊
Aw I’ve really enjoyed this video thank you 😄
My big boy came from a shelter where he and his 4 sisters were born. He's a big blotched brown tabby with strong patterning, an unusually long dense coat for a domestic shorthair and long whiskers. Handsome brute and although he's 12 the vet says he has really good teeth like a four year old, possibly because he is a great ratter hunter. In the UK we call a non-pedigree cat a moggy.
Look at their little yearbook pictures ❤️ so cute!
Enjoyed the video thanks for the knowledge XO
So interesting! Love that you coordinated your whale tablecloth with your whale watching trip 🥰
We had brother and sister NFC rescues 15+ years ago. Pure white and the male, Simba, had one golden eye and one sky blue eye. I miss those giant babies so much. They were the sweetest things
It was a very instructive video ! Thank you ^^
Very interesting. It'd be fun to see the genetic makeup of a certain 4 cats that I know. Also, it's nice to see Ferguson doing well, give him a hug for me.
Sweet, it's nice to see an update on Ferguson. 🐈⭐
Excited, just bought a kit for my cat!
Your Cat pictures are so incredible! You must be a photographer
I swear, Fergie has grown so well- He’s a very gorgeous kitty!
Furgison is getting so big!
As always, an awesome video filled with Hannah’s positivity and genuine niceness. But I just had to point out the hilarious poster behind her; “Hang In There, Dumbass!” 😹
Didn’t even notice that. Have to go back and look.
Omg, I wish they had that in my country. i’d love that
Damn I want to try this but I’m fairly certain I can’t get the cat to let me do a cheek swab 😸
From what I've heard, people are always extremely surprised their cats handle it so well! Since the cheek area is also responsible for scent marking, many cats enjoy having it rubbed which makes it easier :D
Same, two of mine cannot be held, so unless I want to die by cat, no way. :D
My cat also doesn’t like for me to work around her mouth, or be picked up.
However, I tested multiple companies/organizations, and most of what was discussed was validated in multiple results.
The broad “Western” ancestry group was also consistent, but the more specific breed groups were less robust. However, I think that was due to methods issues, rather than DNA collection issues.
I assume you don't brush their teeth? I've trained my kitten on getting comfortable with teeth brushing so it's not an issue, he just think he's getting treats. It only took a month to train too.
@@rubiirae I think that is correct. I haven't tested if my cat likes the taste of the enzymatic toothpaste. However, if the tooth brush had nothing on it, then I pretty much could not brush my cat's teeth.
That's lovely, how fun!
My Bengal, Domino had the glitter coat. Especially in the sun the tips of his fur would look iridescent. I miss that beautiful boy ❤
I am definitely going to be getting one of these kits for my kitty! He is so interesting and i would love to know more about him
Coco looks thrilled about the cheek swab, lol!
