Oml my cat was found as a kitten but he wasn't feral at all he was just a sweetheart so im thinking someone must have dumped him at the abandoned house my sister found him at
My cat used to be feral... We gotten her as a kitten and she was hiding most of the time... We got her some cat food and she immediately came out of her hiding spot to eat... She would sometimes be petted while she ate and we even picked her up... Now the only time she gets mad is if you try to pick her up or have the scent of another cat around her without the cat actually being there... She doesn't hurt anyone when she's picked up but she does stick her claws out to let you know she doesn't like it... She will sometimes try to get down when you pick her up... Also I remember getting a metal Pokemon tin full of Pokemon cards from my friend who had a cat and when I brought the tin home my cat started sniffing it and started hissing... I tried to get the tin she was next to and she ended up scratching me... I did end up washing the tin and when she sniffed it again she calmed down... My friend told me his cat did rub against the tin when I told him about how my cat was acting... I had to take 2 big sheets of paper that were rolled up to pet her so that she was distracted long enough for me to get the tin right next to her before I was able to wash it... I have a scar on my finger from that time she scratched me...
Adorable crabapple 💜 Our feral kitten adopted us 2 yrs ago. She was very young & hungry......all I had was a tin of tuna to offer her. She gulped it down & kept coming back for more. She gradually got braver, first coming into our doorway, then a bit further, but we never closed the door in case it broke her trust in us, until one winter night, the weather was brutal......she came in the door & I closed it behind her. She was scared at first, but when she calmed down, she lay in a box I put down with a soft blanket next to our Aga . She slept for 2 days, before she went out again. And that was that! We had ‘acquired ‘ a feral kitten 💜 She rules the house now, & sleeps on our bed, but we are the only 2 ppl in the world she trusts.....maybe she will get more trusting with age 🤷🏻♀️ but I’m just happy she has a warm safe cozy home now. Obviously we named her Tuna Cat 😂
@@sylvianavarro4384 when does the hissing go away? i am currently trying to socialize a 3,5 months old feral kitten and she keeps hissing at me then running away :(
@@doomer5156 Hi, make sure and be aware of what might make her shy away. Putting your face down to a cat, your full face, can be considered a predatory move. Don't stare straight at her when you reach down. Make sure that you are wearing 'quiet' clothing. Our former feral did not like the crinkly sound that one of my jackets made, so I quit wearing it until she became more used to me. I think that we need to write a blog about socializing ferals. Also, remember that the hiss is a self-protective sound. It is not aggressive. It just means that she's still getting used to the fact that you mean her no harm, that you mean only good to her.
Aw tuxedo kitty 🥺 mine was a stray. She was pretty sweet. On the ride home she may lay in the back seat and wagged her tail softly, just the tip of her tail. No meowing or stress. She’s been so loyal and my best friend.
When I found a litter of feral kittens and contacted the local shelter, they said they'd be TNR'd, even though they were around this age. So I volunteered to try to socialize them, being 14 and not knowing anything about how. I'm so happy it worked out- I kept one, my baby Ash, and she's the sweetest most docile cat ever. I'll always remember when she looked up at my face as I pet her and relaxed and started purring. It was like that was the exact moment she decided I was alright. She's scared to even step foot outside now, lmao.
I use to have a feral kitten, who was VERY aggressive. We got him when his was only 6 weeks, we found him on stormy day, in a stream. So of course, we adopted him. He was normal the first week, but he got more aggressive as time went on. He would growl, and hiss, when you went near him. The only person he was kind of nice to, was my grandma. But he would still scratch her. Even corner her, if he wanted something. We kind of summed it up to that he was spoiled, (which he was). But he did get nicer, as he got out of his kitten years. Watching this, I understand this we could’ve done, to get him to be more friendly. And some of the facts of what you shouldn’t do. Very informative video!
You have to learn how to handle wildlife or animals in general. Feral cats are gonna be aggressive, that's their nature. Do not fault it with your human delight. This is not a mean message but an informed one. Please do not torture, learn and become informed.
We got a sort of stray cat a few years ago, and the first weeks we had him, he wouldn't even go inside the house. We don't know what breed he is (he looks like a calico, and were not even sure if he's an actual he.) He wasn't really feral, he was just so afraid of my family members (I first met him on the Christmas of 2017 and some distant family members came.) And he even attacked me because I was playing with a Christmas bow (he likes to play with them)
Well my kitten (who was adopted while she n was stray) was absolutely not hissing at me she was just a sweety pie Even though she left but for good , u can go to my channel if u wanna know more
Hi Kitten Lady. We adopted a cat that was labeled to be a "barn cat' at a shelter. The notes with her said that she would not be able to be socialized, and needed to be a mouser in a barn. When we went in to visit the cats, this one was hiding in a cat cubby. We respectfully reached and petted her gently, and she purred for both of us. We looked at each other and said, 'there is a house cat in there somewhere!' She was approximately a year and two months old when we took her home last December. First thing she did when she got in the house was hide, hide, hide. Two days in, the cat was still hiding. I looked up 'how to socialize a feral cat' on UA-cam and found this video. We quit open feeding her, and started feeding her by hand, and talking to her the whole time. She completely turned around from that day forward. First, she learned to trust us because we always respected her space. Second, we played with her with natural-looking toys because she had been feeding herself by hunting. She was almost frenetic at play for the first two weeks. Now, after just under five months, she allows herself to be picked up, and has been sleeping on beds for about three weeks. Our Nakia is enjoying being a house cat. She has window ledges to sit in, squirrels to watch, and gets head scritches often. Before her, we had a cat that had been abused, and we had helped him to come out of his shell. We applied patience and respect to our work with Nakia and she is now socialized. We are slowly working on helping her to learn to love laps. It will take time. We were not expecting her to socalize so quickly!! She is a survivor, and she is smart. I wanted you to know that your Hand-feeding and speaking to the cat process works even for cats up to over a year old. I am so glad that I saw this video. She loves being talked to now and wants to hear us all the time. Oh also this cat I am telling you about weighed 5 lbs when she was caught and taken to the shelter where we got her. She was just under six pounds when we adopted her. We fed her high-quality wet cat food and supplemented her diet with high-quality dry food as treats (she loves to 'catch' the dry food treats like prey, so we toss them to her and she chases them). She is now over eight pounds and thriving. Both we and Nakia thank you for this video!! It works!
Been feeding a stray, for weeks on my garage roof. Didn't realise she was pregnant, night time & restricted view. This week she brought a kitten to us! So we took her, she was delightful from day 1! 2 days later mum came with number 2 lol! Second one is just like crabapple. Just socialising the second one. This was very helpful. Especially the hoodie trick! Appreciated!
I just rescued two kittens. They weren’t related and from different parts of town. One was completely wild feral. He sitting in my lap right now finally. This has been the most rewarding thing I’ve ever done. I took them home so I could rehabilitate them and have them adopted out. But my heart doesn’t want to.
I just did the same thing with 3 kittens. I finally found them a home together but it was SO Hard to give them away. The socialization process made me love them like my own cats. I cried sad tears and happy tears when I finally gave them to a great family. But I’ll always love them. 💗
I have to say that this works!! It only took four days and I have the cutest sweetest kitty now. The first couple of days I was worried that I wouldn’t be able to settle this one down. She’s a feral kitten that was born under my porch. So socializing with my three dogs has not been an issue because she’s known them her whole life. I am excited and I’m so happy that I found this video so that I could keep this little kitten!!!
Thank you sooo much! I just rescued two feral four week old kittens from the animal shelter (they were about to be euthanized). I did do the socialization wrong. They have been doing fantastic, and now I know how to get closer to them without scaring them too much. ❤
I just adopted a feral cat. He came to the shelter when he was 6 months old, and we adopted him right before his 4 year mark at the shelter. When we went to visit him at the shelter, he wouldn’t even let us near him and would growl. But I knew I wanted him. They said no one ever applied to adopt him before and no one even looked at him. We got him on February 11th. Today is March 21st. He is now the biggest snuggle bug in the world, and him and my other kitty are best friends now. They are the best.💜💜
Zoé Harris Wow. Even 4 month old kittens living in a barn with other cats are hard to tame, just because they’re around other feral cats, then, I assume, because the 4 month old kittens I tamed for my aunt took months.
Violet Animations [ROPS] Only some though. Not all cats are easy. Also, am I the only one who doesn’t mind when kittens get hissy and scratchy and will approach without gloves?
Same! I adopted a feral cat a week ago as well, still socialising her but if we didn’t adopt her they were going to send her back to the cat colony which she had been away from for 2 month already :(

Adorable crabapple 💜
Our feral kitten adopted us 2 yrs ago. We had ‘acquired ‘ a feral kitten 💜
She rules the house now, & sleeps on our bed, but we are the only 2 ppl in the world she trusts.....maybe she will get more trusting with age 🤷🏻♀️ but I’m just happy she has a warm safe cozy home now.
Obviously we named her Tuna Cat 😂
I really loved your story and the cats name....haha....very cute

Oop 😂
I had one that would hiss, spit and do a token front paw swipe just on general principle--he grew up to be such a devoted boy--have fun wit yours !

This video was an absolute life saver, I got two feral kittens today and I was clueless on how to socialize them, thank you Kitten Lady :D
Yamisomad we didn’t torture him, we gave him everything he wanted. That is why I said he was spoiled.
Yessss! This is such a great video! I wish I would have had this when I adopted my first two cats it would have helped so much!
We got a sort of stray cat a few years ago, and the first weeks we had him, he wouldn't even go inside the house. We don't know what breed he is (he looks like a calico, and were not even sure if he's an actual he.) He wasn't really feral, he was just so afraid of my family members (I first met him on the Christmas of 2017 and some distant family members came.) And he even attacked me because I was playing with a Christmas bow (he likes to play with them)
Yeah I found some good facts to about my Pirate gal cat. I use to work at a Animal Hospital and have some training as a AHT.

It works!
I’m so late to this but this is awesome!! I’m so glad Nakia found a loving home with you ❤️🥰
Tip!: slowly blink at her, it’s how you say “I love you!” In cat language. This results in a 20% chance of a snuggle!

Omg the squeaks whenever you pick him up is so freaking adorable.
Zoey DeFala That’s amazing! You could tame a 4-year feral cat in a month!? I’ve tamed feral kittens before, but never grown cats!
Violet Animations [ROPS] Some grown cats are actually remarkably easy to tame & socialize compared to others. Especially if they’re lonely 😿
Same! I adopted a feral cat a week ago as well, still socialising her but if we didn’t adopt her they were going to send her back to the cat colony which she had been away from for 2 month already :(
That first purr must be incredibly satisfying 🥰
