@@roderickson8510 Thanks for watching! They’re still just minibikes to me, nothing to get too worked up about. In the end, it turned out to be a great little bike!
Recently, I needed a replacement key for a 1972 Trail 90. The local locksmith was unsuccessful in trying to match a blank to cut new ones. Contacted a Honda Dealer’s parts guy with the key switch code and he happened to have two to send me.
Just a suggestion, in the future, especially when trying to save both pieces… when using heat and penetrating oil, the heat “cracks” the rust bond, then for the penetrant to be effective the part needs to be cool enough for it to flow into the threads. If applied when it’s too hot, it just vaporizes.
@@MiniBikeMike Wasn’t suggesting not using heat… many times that in itself will free a “frozen” screw/bolt. I agree that without heat penetrating oil can often take a long time to soak in, depending on the severity of the corrosion. For those guys without access to a torch, both soaking with penetrating oil and the “beat-it” treatment usually leads to success.
For a second there I thought you were going to weld the nut to the broken bolt and switch from vice grip slipping to a six point box wrench for better leverage. But you had the patience to gently work it off. That was awesome 😎 👍
Thanks! If you weld the nut, then you heat up the bolt. If you don’t let the bolt cool off, you risk twisting it in two. I figured the timeframe was gonna be about the same, so I kept going with what I was doing.
Well if it's from a bible camp, I was gona suggest something like a "holy dax" but after watching this video maybe "fallen angel" or "diving dax" would be more suitable :)
Mike; I've had some success with steel stuck in aluminum by using an air chisel with hammer head, seems the vibrations shakes some of the corrosion loose. Might try it sometimes as it has worked for me, just don't go crazy.
Hey Mike, my name is Robbe and i'm from Belgium. I love your videos and the Honda ct70's you restore. Unfortunately it is hard to get a original Honda ct70 here in Belgium because they are very rare here. It is my dream to have one some day. I have 2 Honda dax'es they are the 50cc versions but i want to expand my collection. So my question is , would it be possible and make my dream come true for a faire price for one of your bikes? Thank you in advance! With kind regards from Belgium Robbe
I sell all my bikes thru the UA-cam channel. I make a video to show the bike and it’s price. If you’re interested in a bike, watch for sale videos and contact when ready to buy.
Hey Mike, what do you generally do regarding a badly damaged round speedometer (not part of the headlight bucket like the earlier ones or the 91-94 models). Good used round ones are hard to find and very expensive. Damaged ones can be reconditioned but it is a fair amount of work. Is there an aftermarket one you have found that is a good replacement? I recently picked up a pretty decent used Ruckus speedo for $25 thinking it might be an option. They are in decent supply both new and used and are affordable. The Ruckus speedo is slightly smaller in diameter. The Ruckus has 10” wheels so the calibration may be the same as CT70. Or do you replace the round speedo and headlight bucket with the aftermarket combination units? John from San Antonio
Those rounds speedo are ridiculous in price…. costing more than I paid for the bike I’m currently working on. Fortunately, I’m not purist, so using a speedo off something else is no big deal to me. Plus, since I install Lifan’s most of the time, the original 50mph speedo doesn’t go high enough. Because I like the look of having a speedo, I try to install something, whether it works or not. I use a Meilan GPS speedo most of the time, so I don’t really care if the mounted speedo works or not. I’m not sure what speedo I used on the current K1 bike I’m building. I believe it’s off a CL175 or SL125 or something. Because it’s slightly larger in diameter, than stock, I had to design a different bracket to hold it.
is it safe to store a motorcycle without gas in it inside a garage? I heard mixed responses as sitting without gas can cause rust in gas tank, but gas can also go bad eventually and rust the tank too. what do you recommend?
If I were building it to stay with an aftermarket 12v engine, yes, I’d swap the harness. In this case, I’m leaving the original wiring harness in place. I’ll swap headlight and taillight bulbs to 12v. I’ll put a 12v battery in it and run a hot wire directly to the foot brake switch and the running light. The battery should last the 150 mile trip. For the headlight, I’ll zip tie a regulator somewhere easy to access and run a wire from engine to regulator and then to the headlight. All easy to unplug when I get there and plug in the stock harness.
🛑🛑 Well since the bike was from a Church Camp, and Jesus brought Lazarus back from the dead….. and the bike was basically dead, till Mini Bike Mike arrived on the scene…. How about the name LAZARUS??? 😂👍💯
When your bike falls of lift and you can still smile shows a classy Guy. Thanks for the videos

Mark, from Honda Keys on eBay, is sending me two keys tomorrow.
Lazarus would be a good name! Lol
Yes, it would!
Love the idea of the road trip.
“Bad ideas make for great stories”
I’ll be flowing along
Thanks!
Hiya mike, looking forward to seeing the video on your trip, what a great idea.
Unfortunately, my plans may be changing……..but, will still be something cool. I need to see how the next couple weeks play out.
The Toppled Tuesday Special. 😎
👍🏻
That trip to sell and ride the new to you bike back home sounds like a hell of a good time
Unfortunately, my plans may be changing…..but, I still have something cool happening at that time.
Nice work Mike. I always have had luck just searching the lock number on eBay to find Honda keys.
Yep, Mark from Honda Keys on eBay is sending me two keys.

I’ve had just the opposite experience. Without the heat, the penetrating oil does nothing. I feel the heat “sucks” the oil into the threads.

Hey Mike, thank you for your videos!
Maybe name that particular bike... "The Problem Child"😅
Coming together nicely...considering it's level of crusty status. I like the road trip idea. Can't wait to see how it all goes.
Thanks Patrick!

Red rusty.
Never seen you struggle as much in a bike as much as you did with this one to Tare it down .
Good job great video like always
👍🏾
It put up a good fight. I don’t think I’ve ever used a big hammer, vice grips and a cutoff tool on any bike as much as this one.
When u dropped it, the bolt was scared🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
🤣🤣
What price you gonna ask for the bike at Portland
@iancameron198 Not sure yet. I need to finish it and see how it looks/rides.

Hey Tom!!
Awesome job
Thanks!
Just go to your local locksmith with the key code and he will cut you one. I just had it done to my 1985 Honda vf1000r 👍🏻
Mark from HondaKeys is fixing me up. Should have two key’s tomorrow. 👍🏻

Excellent video Mike, love the channel. Do you rebuild these bikes and sell some of them?
I sell most of them thru the channel. This bike will be posted For Sale in the next video, when it gets posted tomorrow.

Every time you hit that bolt I could see it move. I’m thinking of sending you some tie downs 😅😂
It sucks that it fell and broke the case.
Yeah. Fortunately, it’s an easy case to replace.
