I always take a cursory glance at directions before I do anything no matter how easy the fix and when direction #1 said to take of the grill lid I was like "Nooooooooo FN way should this be that complicated much less removing everything else!" As I suspected, it wasn't. After finding your quick tutorial as to what the probable problem actually stems from (the box) I saved myself a whole lotta time. 5 minute $20 fix when you have the knowledge on board. Thank you!
I'm a girl, and i think i can do this...thank you so much! I've watched the other videos and they took the whole thing apart. I'm so great full for your video.
I don’t know who you are, but right now I’m calling you God. This coming from a guy who’s never really fixed/repaired anything of any importance in my 67 years . Went to start the grill yesterday no igniter sound called Ace Hardware, they said it’s probably the battery, replace the battery, no luck. Found your video and going to order the piece today. An unbelievably easy tutorial to follow and understand … THANK YOU !!
Gary, I am the smartest man in the world (Mr know It All) I never changed that igniter, thanks I would have never figured it out, I'm ready to run the country now, after my nap.
Thanks, just replaced mine, took all of 15min max! All of the igniter wires were just fine, though I did add a dab of dielectric grease to every wire connection post on the igniter.
I buy everything based on reviews. Some said this was hard to put together ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxCx5fHawkK9OoV-ojFrY8JLnZrFwAmvUt some guy said 2 hours and 2 beers later. I didn't drink beer like I was going to. I didn't feel like going to the store. I'm assuming I would have had at least 3. I took my time. Stepped outside for a cigarette break a couple times but all in all it was about a 3 hour project for me but it wasn't like it was difficult or anything . Only pictures but everything is pretty organized and labeled although I didn't see any #s on the actual pieces like it shows in the diagrams. Only the screws were labeled. On the cardboard part of the packaging on the back side. I put it together in my living room too. It wasn't supposed to rain today but it's Michigan and I couldn't wait so I put it together in my living room. Without beer but beer would definitely have made it more fun that's for sure. I'm giving this a 5 for easy assembly. I'll update after it stops raining when I can take it out of my living room and cook some food on it. Hope this helps at least for people who think they can't put this together because I did and you can too . And there are extra screws. I got nervous and immediately came here to see if others had the same experience and they have. You're not doing it wrong. There will be extra screws. Be patient. Don't rush it. Drink beer. Happy assembling
I liked everything about this video. My problem is I have a Genesis II. You even acknowledged that it was different. I still subscribed because you are so thorough and easy to understand.
Excellent video. I have had that exact replacement part since last year, but haven't wanted to dismantle most of my grill to replace it. Thank you for showing me the easier way!
I`m hear just to replace the battery but am now prepared when the time comes when this will be needed. Thanks for including the deflectors in the post, super helpful so I ordered them in the package deal that also included flavorizer bars. This grill was gifted to me by my sister so I`m quite sure they've never been replaced.Looking forward to seeing the performance improving.Nice job on the video too.
Hey Gary! was googling for something to help me fix my Weber Grill and up popped my old pal Gary Q. Good video. Long, long way from the Apple ][ days... - Seymour
I loved this video. It had such a relaxing vibe to it. Wish you were my neighbor. I learned alot. Ordered the igniter on Amazon just now and I will confidently give my old Weber grill new life!
hello, thanks for the video. it was very helpful and your common sense approach in that you realized that only the igniter itself needed replacing saved an extreme amount of work.
Thank you for this video. Thought I was going to have to replace all the wiring. Been dreading having to do it for months. Finally decided to tackle this project and found your video. Sure enough, as you said, just needed to replace that electronic igniter device. 15 min job!
Awesome video! Thank you! I have the same grill and mine just went out tonight. Thank you for showing how to replace and I appreciate the Amazon links - Thanks again!
I took the entire front off. Glad I did. Found a nice nest inside. All the screws were rusted. Used a vice grip to get the off. One broke off. Fortunately I had a tap set. Drilled it out and re-tapped the treads.
Sometimes, and more likely the cause of it not igniting is the actual button itself. The metal strip on the button has oxidized or corroded to the point it doesn't conduct electricity from the battery anymore. Any easy way to test this is to use a multi-meter to test if the ends have conductivity. A simple fix is just strip some electrical wire and run it along the metal strip from the inside to the outside and stick the battery back in, making sure the negative end of the battery touches the raw wire. Basically the raw wire will conduct your electricity from the battery into the metal cylinder instead of the strip. This is virtually a no-cost fix if u have a spare wire laying around and a wire stripper tool.
It's still working great. I won't buy weber branded replacements any longer. The aftermarket parts are much cheaper and in many cases better quality. I replaced my burner tubes about a month ago with stainless versions, big savings. I made a video for that too.
If you have registered your Weber grill then you can contact their customer service and they will replace the parts free if the grill is less than 10 years old.
Just curious, does the ignitor fire all four burners? If so, why would the wire plug colors have to be matched? Or better yet, why are they even separated?
@@GaryQuiring Oh, I missed that. I'm refurbishing a freebie Genesis 330 with the extra "sear station" burner and haven't fully examined the wiring yet, other than finding that they were all burned up because of a rotted-out heat shield behind the sear station. The switch box does also have the same four color-coded outlets on it though. I ordered a new one, so I'm going to take the old one apart to see what makes it tick. Thanks for making this helpful video, especially the part about keeping the wires in their clips away from the firebox.
@@donf3739 When you get yours working I would be curious to know if your handle on the grill lid gets super hot just on the left side. My grill I cannot touch the handle on that side.
I'm not impressed with any part of the grill. I had to replace the porcelain grates by the 2nd year and then those flavor bars go every 3 years or so. The heat deflectors also are poor quality but I replaced them with stainless steel versions. I also just ordered some stainless flavor bars from a 3rd party manufacturer.

This is one of the best repair videos I have used. You covered everything! Repairs are so much easier when all of the unknowns are addressed.
Thank you for the video. We were able to replace our igniter box by following your great instructions. Easy with your video!

Thank you Catherine, hopefully your Genesis II grill will be similar to fix.
Thank you for the video, link, and clear instructions. My 12 yr old Genesis is starting like a champ again! Gonna grill a tri-tip in your honor.

That was so helpful. I really appreciate how clear you were and greatful that you posted this. Thank you
This is a great video on replacing the Weber Genesis igniter. Hope I run across Gary on some other DIY project I encounter.
This was super helpful and saved me tons of time. I just wish I had watched this video BEFORE I ordered the wires.
Huge Thank You!

I am going to follow your simpler method this weekend! Thanks so much

Followed your instructions, worked perfectly - thanks for sharing.

Best video on this category. Thanks!! How has this replacement part lasted? Any issues vs buying over priced part??

Great video, thanks!
If you have registered your Weber grill then you can contact their customer service and they will replace the parts free if the grill is less than 10 years old.
Caution as I also did the same thing using a cheaper unit on Amazon. Only lasted a year. I had to go and get the Weber model anyway.
2+ years on mine no issues.
Just curious, does the ignitor fire all four burners? If so, why would the wire plug colors have to be matched? Or better yet, why are they even separated?
It's 3 burners. I agree the color matching probably does not matter. I would guess they are separated so you can easily replace a single igniter.

@@GaryQuiring I will definitely check for that, and will report back.
@@GaryQuiring color matching matters, because everyone color electrodes are connected to different burners
Quick and easy!- even a girl can do it!!!
Thank you. I am hoping I can do this without hiring a handyman to do it.
You should not need one.
thank you!
I have one of these grills and while it is a good grill, the ignition system is complete garbage....

This should really be a 5 minute video. I guess there are some people that could be confused.
If your in Australia Weber give a lifetime guarantee on the igniter Just call them and they send one out Australia only though i believe!
