    A probably-too-late comment on the shop update segment: I can see the logic of not including it in the podcast, but personally I find that seeing wools in a video format gives me more insight into the color than photos (how that particular dye lot came out, and at least a bit of how variations in lighting affects the colors). In my personal dream world your shop updates would still happen, but in separate videos.

    By the 5-7 slot, the lounge was standing room only, even with kicking out the 3-5 people! Luckily, a number of Saugerties businesses had places to sit and knit and relax. It was so fun to explore and hang out in the village.

    Grace (Grace O'Neill from Babbles Travelling Yarns) was also wearing the Veera Valimaki jumper whose name I've forgotten already (she also added a comment about the meaning of jumper for transatlantic viewers as over the pond in the UK [where I'm based] and Ireland a jumper is non-cardigan sweater (I find it confusing to find that US and presumably Canadians use the word sweater to refer to cardigans also. I caught Grace's podcast by accident and it's fab, complete with Beans the kitten, who is somewhat camera shy but cute. She did indeed have a short feature on avoiding join marks by helical means, which is essentially knitting in a spiral, which is what you are doing when you are knitting in the round [I think Jen Arnall-Culliford has an ebook on helical knitting currently], and it has a few applications but knitting stripes is the most common application of helical knitting. I must admit I have been put off using indie dyed yarn for more than 1 skein because of the change every 2 row business and I was watching a podcast last week where the person essentially had a jagged line all the way up her jumper because she changed yarn in the same place - helical knitting would seem to get round this, I suspect with plenty of practice, though (just like any other skill).

    That tote is sooo cute! I love Bella popping up in the background at the start of the video, I love when pets show up.

    Hey Kristin! Lovely to hear about your Indie Untangled/Rhinebeck. I'm glad to hear Indie Untangled was better managed this year- last year... what a sh*t show! What a coincidence, I JUST watched a helix knitting tutorial on BitterPurl's Instagram Stories like 2 hours ago, and hadn't heard of that before. I so want to try it on my next hand dyed project!

      Helix knitting is brilliant! I hadn't heard of it until I mentioned alternating skeins the other week and now EVERYONE is talking about it and making tutorials. What sorcery is this?! 😂

    I know what you mean about working with Peace Fleece, but you will be happy when it's done. It wears well and looks great, but it is definitely a sheepy wool. I am currently working on a hubster sweater with the Peace Fleece sport/DK, after having done one years ago with the Aran (works up much faster)! Hang in there . . . he will appreciate it!

    OMG, I bought some Peace Fleece at Rhinebeck $8.00 per skein, a bargain! Rich loved it so I decided to knit him the Rift pattern....(didn't even realize you were knitting it). I did not get gauge on the recommended needle size, (7) and I felt that it was too tight and uncomfortable to knit even with a 7--(I think it's because of the knobby 2 ply of the yarn). I went up to an 8, it's better, and I might even try a 9. Abandoned the Rift, I think I'm going to knit him "Flax" by Tin Can knits, 18 sts/4"--much more doable for that yarn. Good luck! I feel your pain! Sad to have missed you, I think we were ships passing in the night, we left early as well.

    • @Voolenvine
      @Voolenvine  6 років тому

      Ah, great minds and all that! :D $8??? Talk about a steal!! Flax was also a pattern contender ... I can't wait to see how yours knits up! So sorry I missed you guys, too! To be honest, we missed quite a few passing ships, because Laura and I decided to play hooky from the podcaster meet-up, this year. 🙈 #DontHateUs

    I understand about the knitting struggle for the hands...on my last hat (it was stranded with a Noro thick thin yarn with worsted,) and if I had been able to use size 10 needles (had to use 6), I bet that I wouldn't have been feeling like I was carving the hat. I love the results. It is the Fake Isle pattern.

    • @Voolenvine
      @Voolenvine  6 років тому

      "Carving a hat" ... love that analogy! 😂 I've heard Noro is no picnic to work with, in general. But sounds like it was worth the struggle. ;)

    Love your haul! I am sitting here surrounded by mine...thank you for being honest about what a nightmare indie was last year, I feel ya'. I gave it one more chance this year & I'm glad I did. It was very pleasant & everyone was so much more relaxed & enjoying themselves. I'm on the fence about the timed entry situation also, we'll just have to wait & see. Thank you for sharing your yarny goodness! :-D

    I totally get why you would not want to shoot the podcast in your room permanently, but I LOVED the moody look of the lighting in there! Or maybe it was the 40mm lens? Anyway, the tone of the picture was actually really gorgeous and matched the fall/moon/witchy vibes that you (and I) are so into these days. 🖤🖤🖤

    • @Voolenvine
      @Voolenvine  6 років тому

      Thank you so much, Anna. I agree ... I think the 40mm also lended to the mood. It's definitely the unsung hero of lenses! I'm going to work with it again in my craft room this week and see how I like it. ;)

    What about the Elton cardigan for your mohair combo? I just bought yarn for that at my LYS' mini rheinbeck :) I was planning on a pullover but someone pointed out to me that mohair tends to make your hair staticky :/

      Thanks! 🤓 You know, I've had that lens for over 5 years and hardly ever used it, until I got back into photography ... it definitely doesn't get enough credit. I've grown to really love it!
