Peugeot's classy medium range 508 model remains a sharp act. Jonathan Crouch drives the sleeker, improved version.
Ten Second Review
Big French cars used to be interesting. Distinctive. Now, they are again. Or at least this one is anyway, the sleeker improved version of the second generation Peugeot 508. As before, it competes in the now much-abandoned medium range Passat and Mazda 6 segment but offers something quite different, with a choice of five-door 'Fastback' and SW estate body styles. You might even prefer it to something with a premium badge.
Background
Once upon a time, European roads were filled with volume brand 'D'-segment cars. Mondeos were plentiful, as were the mainstream mid-sized Vauxhalls, Renaults, Citroens and Peugeots that competed with this Ford. But that was then. A new 'D'-segment model is quite rare to see on the roads these days - partly because so many brands no longer bother to sell them. Which is somewhat short-sighted given that the huge Chinese market, unafflicted by badge snobbery, simply loves cars of this kind.
Hence the reason why Peugeot developed this second generation 'R83'-series 508 and launched it in 2018, unconcerned that it would probably be as rare a sight as a unicorn on British highways. For likely buyers, that's actually been part of the appeal and this MK2 508 Fastback and SW estate range has fared reasonably well, though this package of mid-term updates will be welcome.

Great review 👍🏾
Great car.
Thank you
Top looking cool car😊
Thanks. I bought one. Great car.
The 504 was a great car.
Excellent car LoVe ❤️ it
These cars would be a great addition to the Chrysler Brand considering Chrysler is down to one model, Pacifica Minivan.
Can't wait until this eV bollicks puts a nail in the car market, it will, as for anyone that does more than potter around the doors will regret getting an eV, shit range, range anxiety on a huge scale, can't tow a caravan, going to the lakes or Scotland for a weekend is an absolute nightmare, that's why we got rid of ours, stick with our 508sw 2lt diesel
I will only buy a petrol car and 130bhp is way to little in a car of this size. Pity as 150bhp might have been ok
You obviously haven't driven any car with the Puretech 130.
@@HologramJones New Astra for a day
@@robtt997 tuned differently. I have driven the Astra as courtesy car, it's definitely tuned differently. I own a C5 Aircross with the Puretech 130 and while it's not a racer's choice it certainly has way more pull than expected and I wouldn't call it inadequate in a car as big the C5 Aircross. And it can really surprise you in Sport Mode. Anyway, that's not the point of these cars. If you want sports performance you get the PSE Sport Engineered. Furthermore, Stellantis is slowly but surely moving towards full electrification and being that their major brands are French, they have to fulfill that target in 6 years. So, ICE engines will be less and less in the range and you should look elsewhere for that.
I'm getting the feeling of de ja vu
Hopefully they make Peugeot 508 EV soon.
He does spit a bit I must say
Noticed same.. they probably had to do some cleaning after filming this.
Get a Lexus IS or ES instead. It's a much better choice
Agree there, similar size, more powerful and better built, probably long term cheaper to run- not as many repairs.
A Lexus just looks old and it ages the driver too. I'm not ready to look like Alan Partridge heading off to the golf course.
Booring cars.
I couldn't disagree more with your comment. Very boring cars. Love that Peugeot 508. Top car.
As long as you love to waste your money in repair, it's fine !@@garnray8568
