there's a theory about perrito's route that's one of the most bittersweet ones i've seen - his areas of the map could all be references to death. the pocket of posies is very likely about the nursery rhyme supposedly about the bubonic plague which killed a huge portion of humanity. the river of relaxation could refer to the river his owners threw him in (or even the river styx from greek mythology, which led to the underworld), and quick and easy solutions could very well be talking about the common (and obviously untrue) assumption that suicide is a quick and easy solution to life's problems. however, due to his almost supernatural levels of sheer gratitude at being alive, none of it really bothers him and he's able to pass through it.

Anyway, this movie is inspiring me greatly AF. As a Brazilian, I love seeing Brazilian actors making it in Hollywood, and the Death Wolf in this movie is played by Wagner Moura, one of our best. (He also played Pablo Escobar in Narcos)
My main theory about Kitty not showing up is that she was lying, to help Puss feel better. After all, if she didn't show up, she wouldn't know that he didn't either.
Honestly, it's done so well. Not a lot of people mention it in their reactions, I think it needs more attention to the absolute attention to detail at the feel of a panic attack they showed. It reminded me of mine back when I used to have them.
The thing with Puss freaking out at the antagonist is that this is more than just an anxiety attack of the character’s personal fear, this is Death. Personified, Flesh and Blood Death. This is a fear that every living thing can relate to. So when you see him getting scared and running away you can almost immediately understand to what he’s running from, and why he’s so scared of it.
I think it’s kind of a behind the scenes fact that Kitty just said that she didn’t show up either to make Puss feel better because how else would she have known that he wasn’t there
Death (aka The Wolf or Lobo) is without a doubt one of DreamWorks best but also terrifying antagonists in years and Wagner Moura (a Brazilian actor) who is best known Pablo Escobar in _Narcos_ really knocks it out of the park. Interestingly despite his actions in the film Death is by no means a villain as he has a sense of honor and nobility, as his main reason for pursuing Puss in the first place was to punish him for arrogantly squandering his eight lives with reckless abandon, concluding from this that it would be best to kill him before he wasted his final life. 🐺🐺 Another thing to note is that before Puss in Boots meets him at the bar, Death appears in a blink-and-you-miss moment when Puss was battling the Giant where he was in a slight dark corner and compared to the Crowd he was not cheering for Puss but watching him to see if he gets killed and hints of him of his wolf head and sickles were seen on the edges of Puss' death card numbers. Finally, Death's quote in Spanish when he was defeated by Puss: _"¿POR QUE DIABLOS FUI A JUGAR CON MI COMIDA?!?"_ translates to _"WHY THE HELL DID I PLAY WITH MY FOOD?!?"_ in English.
I'll admit, after watching this movie a few times I realised, maybe Goldie wouldn't have such a complex about being adopted if Baby didn't keep bringing up the fact that she's not his sister, not a bear, an orphan etc. during arguments. That would give anybody doubts about belonging.
Gosh, I LOVED bounty Goldi’s design, especially her hair, loved the fun hairstyle when so many animated women of all ethnicities usually have just long/short hair or braids. I love her curly pom pom look. I didn’t expect to tear up but the panic attack scene almost got me. And the wolf was SO unsettling but it made me so excited every time he showed up. Amazing movie, love when family movies put genuine care into the story.
One of the details that I love is that the corner embellishments of Puss' death-count cards the wolf. It is so easy to miss when you see it the first time, with not having been introduced to him yet, but when you look... there it is. He was there for each of Puss' deaths. I do dearly love the wolf as death, though. It wasn't that he had a grudge with, it was the showboating, arrogant, git who was obsessed with his legend above all else, and by the end of the movie... that person is gone. Oh, Pus is still pretty amazing, and able to be heroic, but he isn't the arrogant, showboating, self-obsessed jerk anymore. And, y'know, I can't blame death for being pissed off at "the legend," because it made Puss careless. Even within the movie, you see that with how reckless he is, he actively puts others in danger. Yes, he saved everyone from the giant, but the fact remains that if he hadn't been such a complete showoff during the fight with the governor's men and busted out the fireworks, he would never have had to save them in the first place, there wouldn't have been the damage to the town, and... Puss wouldn't have lost his last life. That's the kind of thing that would drive any reasonable personification of death absolutely berserk.
I honestly think that she did show up at the wedding, and that she was angry for a reason, but when Puss told Perito why things happened the way they did, she understood everything, and she made up a story to let him know that maybe this time he wouldn't run away, because she wouldn't have imagined ever hearing that side of him before, and she tells him to his face that his legend was more important to him than anything else, and that now she no longer sees that in him, seeing how much he values the people around him, and how he is turning into the person she's been looking for all her life, which is why she mentioned sharing the wish because she wants him, and he's left to make his own wish. She literally made up a story for him to let him know why he left, and how she now sees a change in him that he can't see yet in the movie.
I can definitely understand Goldi and why she wants the wish that she wants. If you look at it from the point of view of a child who was adopted into a family, who feels out of place and disconnected at times, you start to realize that she isn't trying to be mean or cruel, she's just trying to find herself, she's trying to find who she is. Imagine if it was the reverse, a bear being raised by a family of humans and that bear starts to realize that they aren't a human and they really want to know more about what it is to be a bear. It's not that Goldi doesn't love her family, because she does, it's just that she feels that disconnect. Every time Papa Bear brings up hibernating, well she can't hibernate because she's a human, every time they talk about anything bear related, she feels that disconnect. Then on Death, he has a lot of cool foreshadowing things and a lot of cool lines. Like when he and Puss first me he says, "My compliments to your cobbler." and chuckles, giving the impression that he met the person who made his boots and guided her into the afterlife. There's also the whole shadow of Death moment when Puss is hiding in the bathroom. Then when he appears in the forest for the first time, the rocks and trees around him look like a skull. I also like to think that he was there when Perrito almost died in that river and that when it's Perrito's time, he will be far kinder than he was to Puss because Perrito values his one, singular life.
Honestly, I've seen a ton of people saying they think Kitty was lying when she said she didn't show up to the church herself, because why would she be mad otherwise? But I don't think Puss not showing up to the church and their wedding was what made her so mad. Remember that on the river she says she hasn't seen his face since Santa Coloma. One of Puss's biggest issues in the movie is that since he's "never afraid," he has no idea how to handle fear, and is very resistant to learning. It wasn't just that his fear made him leave Kitty at the altar, but that when he did so, he ran away ENTIRELY and avoided ever seeing her again. For someone who must have cared about him a lot, it would have hurt to not just have him abandon the wedding but up and abandon even their entire friendship. She realized she'd never measure up to his "first love," himself, "the legend" before the wedding even happened, but he proved her brutally right in the worst possible way, not just putting his love for his own legend over marrying her but over even being in her life at all.
I really love that The Big Bad Wolf is the representation of Death as he always portrays death and danger in original fairy tales like in Little Red Riding Hood and The 3 Little Pigs.
The part where everything turns red reminds me HEAVILY of Wolfenstein (The newer ones) art, particularly the last two titles released. The artwork has almost the exact same style and really drives home the intensity and brutality of the game/scenes.
You just KNOW it's gonna be a good reaction when the reactor gushes about Harvey Guillén and gushes about What we do in the Shadows. (not to mention I love your little breaks talking about the movie, it's structure and the themes within it, feels refreshing to listen to someone who's also a big fan of movies, stories and with technical knowledge talk about the movie itself) Also, about the tune whistled by Death, the fact that they chose to have an almost nursery-rhyme type of tune played in a major key, rather than a minor key which usually is used to connotate themes of Death is a really interesting choice, it's so incredibly upsetting just how happy the tune sounds in terms of melodic structure. Also the "she didn't show up either" could easily be a lie, a lie told to try and diminish Puss' guilt while teasing him and still giving him the hint that she is still interested in trying a relationship again with the "You just don't seem like that guy anymore" Edit: Another fun fact that I remembered watching the Puss V Death scene. Did you know that the battle between Puss & Death and Puss & The giant is set in sync with the movie's soundtrack?! IT IS SO GOOOD!
There's a theory that suggest that Kitty did actually show up but just lied to Puss after realising he is at his lowest, besides Kitty wouldn't be upset if she never did show up with expectations.
I have a theory about Kitty's claim of not being at the church. She has deep trust issues and is prideful. To be willing to go through with marrying Puss would've put a toll emotionally on her. I wouldn't be surprised if she lied to him. She was there, waiting at the altar and when he didn't show she thought to herself that she should've expected that to happen because she knew Puss' ego about being seen as a legend. I predict that in the Shrek movie to follow this one it comes out. She sees how happy Fiona is with Shrek and she admits to Fiona that she was actually there waiting for Puss at the altar, which Puss or Perrito overhear.
Jiminy Cricket is the name given to the Disney version of the character so it’s copyrighted. They can still call him the cricket. He’s credited as ethnical bug but he’s definitely supposed to be Jiminy
I think Kitty did show up to the wedding - think about how angry she was immediately upon seeing Puss. She only said she didn't show up to give him an out after she heard him speaking to Perrito.
I know Kitty said she didn't show up either, but she's such a skilled thief that no one ever sees her coming. I'd like to think that she used that skill to be there without being there.
Gotta love the reading where Jack Horner represents Disney 😂 has all the magic in the world and it’s still not enough, gotta buy up even more and more (plus a lot of the magic stuff can be linked back to various fairy tales Disney has turned into their trademark characters)
I don't know if it has been mentioned yet, but many people seems to not realize the reference behind Death putting the golden coins on his eyes. During ancient times people believed that when a person dies, Charon would take the souls to deliver them to Hades. To do so, they had to pay a golden coin, because they thought that Charon wanted payment to deliver the soul of a dead person. So they used to cover one or even two of the corpse's eyes as payment towards Charon.
In the movie its said that if you speak your wish out loud, it wouldn't be granted. Everyone that wanted a wish spoke it up at some point and no wish was granted by the end. Its the message that if you don't speak up what you want or what you need, you can only hope magic will solve your problem
Watched this movie twice, once by myself and once with my sister, it immediately became one of my top DreamWorks movies, maybe even one of my top movies period. It’s such a great and wholesome movie, it’s up there with HTTYD for me, I love it so much.
The amount of hints it gives for the wolf being death that you only see with a rewatch and the knowledge of them is super cool. Even stuff like the gold on the eyes to mimic the Greek tradition of leaving coins on the eyes of the dead for them to give to Charon for passage to the underworld
Great reactions! This is one of my favorite movies, animated or otherwise. So well done!! And Perrito is hands down one of my favorite characters. 🥰 So unabashedly positive and loving and supportive and wholesome! Also, the Death character is just outstanding. Just a great, great movie!! 😊
28:15, I disagree personally, I still think he's scared sh!tless. I think at this point he's just accepted he can't run away from Death and decides to face his fate head-on, he's facing his fears, not necessarily overcoming them.
@8:56 we know for a fact thats bull. puss dedicated one of his nine lives to "shrek", one of his enemies turned best friends....... so we know he doesn't "walk alone". If he wanted at any time he could have gone back and shrek would have [ begrudgingly, most likely] welcomed him back.
Jack horner was one of the many little songs making fun of rich guys, but then the story of pinocchio overshadowed those. His name in the short song was "little jack horner" so now his name is big jack horner cause he was the boy who stuck his thumb in the pies, but now he owns them and he wants to feel powerful. This movie brought back what shrek did and i'm still so happy for this gem. I cry every time i watch it, from the art to the story and the ending.
Finally watched this yesterday, so I can watch your reaction, this movie surprised me at how good it was visually and plot wise. I think I liked eveey character in this
A detail it took me a few watches to catch is wherever the characters are looking at the map in the forest, they can see the location of everyone except the Wolf. Just another subtle hint at his true identity.
The animation that they used in the other movie "The Bad Guys" is excellent for this one , that add more dynamic in the actions's scenes. At 8:10 : Goldie used the famous line of her Story Tale "Too Soft/Too Hard" and later the 3 bears said the same "Too Hot/Too cold/Excellent". Death and Perrito were the MVP in this movie.
Great reaction! My personal head-canon: I think Kitty did show up to the church, and is just lying to Puss after she overheard him talking to Perro. Though that's just my thought.
I just watched the German version and they were so daring with the swearing there lol it caught me so off guard. I thought Germany was going to be super uptight about this and make it extremely child friendly. When mama bear holds Perrito by his scruff, she doesn't say "Clever little bugger", she says "clever little shit". Baby doesn't say "cat pee", he says "cat piss", and when Perrito talks about all the names his previous owners gave him, he doesn't say "**** for brains", he says "***ck face", and one of the sisters at Jack Horner's bakery says "geiler Scheiß" which means "cool shit" ("geil" is a rather vulgar word that most commonly gets used to describe hot girls or guys you want to have sex with)
my favourite scene is the scythe coming down on the metal bolt: frame by frame you see the scythe come down first, and the bolt splits in two with a glowing red ends from the heat generated by the friction. It reminds me of the still image of the Speed Racer's 6 in the Grand Prix scene. It's movie making genius.
I'm so glad Perrito saves Puss from panic attacks. He reminds me of he's act like Donkey, Puss act like Shrek and Kitty act like Fiona. I hope they meet Artie at Shrek 5.
I love this movie so much, more than the first one! And it's literally number one on my list of top favorite DreamWorks movies, with Shrek and Shrek 2 right behind it, which I'm excited to see how the ending sets up a fifth movie. Perrito has stolen my heart and I love him so much, he's a sweet and kind little dog and I can't wait to see Shrek, Fiona, and Donkey's reaction to the new addition in the crew. I love watching your reactions, Clariss! Y también me agrada mucho cuando comentas en español, quiero verte hablar mas en tus próximas reacciones... ❤
One thing I heard mentioned, and I really appreciate since then, is in the panic attack scene. It's easy to expect it'll be resolved with belly rubs, as it seems to be foreshadowed earlier. But, in that moment, there's no joke, no corny solution, just sombre companionship. I have to wonder if that was a deliberate, denial of payoff to the earlier prompt for emphasis
death was there for each of puss’s lives lost. . The title cards had death’s hood and sickles as flourishes on the corners. And death was in the crowd when puss was fighting the sleeping giant. In a doorway, when the crowd did the wave.

@@ryanmar-n11 Tamo junto
@@rebornjoker359 I like to say that Wagner Moura is like the Brazilian Jeremy Irons: he could read the phonebook and make it sound ominous and scary.
As a Brazilian I’m so happy to see more Brazilians in movies.
My main theory about Kitty not showing up is that she was lying, to help Puss feel better. After all, if she didn't show up, she wouldn't know that he didn't either.
The Puss panic attack and Perrito assisting him still gets me and I've watched this film half a dozen times at this point.
Honestly, it's done so well.
Not a lot of people mention it in their reactions, I think it needs more attention to the absolute attention to detail at the feel of a panic attack they showed. It reminded me of mine back when I used to have them.
I was doing ok until that scene ... man that was too close to home:(
The thing with Puss freaking out at the antagonist is that this is more than just an anxiety attack of the character’s personal fear, this is Death. Personified, Flesh and Blood Death. This is a fear that every living thing can relate to. So when you see him getting scared and running away you can almost immediately understand to what he’s running from, and why he’s so scared of it.
yes and its not the reaper he's running from either, its literal death
I think it’s kind of a behind the scenes fact that Kitty just said that she didn’t show up either to make Puss feel better because how else would she have known that he wasn’t there
She might have been in the vicinty and might have observed that Puss didn't show up or saw him leaving?
Easily one of the best films of the year...
And ABSOLUTELY one of the best depictions of death in a film...straight up.
Another thing to note is that before Puss in Boots meets him at the bar, Death appears in a blink-and-you-miss moment when Puss was battling the Giant where he was in a slight dark corner and compared to the Crowd he was not cheering for Puss but watching him to see if he gets killed and hints of him of his wolf head and sickles were seen on the edges of Puss' death card numbers.
The wolf having Charon's Obol in his eyes to symbolize death is amazing
I really love that The Big Bad Wolf is the representation of Death as he always portrays death and danger in original fairy tales like in Little Red Riding Hood and The 3 Little Pigs.
This movie almost came out of nowhere with how good it was.
I liked the first Puss In Boots solo movie, but this kicked it up a notch.
13:30
If you were wondering what that thunderous crash was, that was her heart... breaking.
(not to mention I love your little breaks talking about the movie, it's structure and the themes within it, feels refreshing to listen to someone who's also a big fan of movies, stories and with technical knowledge talk about the movie itself)
Also, about the tune whistled by Death, the fact that they chose to have an almost nursery-rhyme type of tune played in a major key, rather than a minor key which usually is used to connotate themes of Death is a really interesting choice, it's so incredibly upsetting just how happy the tune sounds in terms of melodic structure.
Also the "she didn't show up either" could easily be a lie, a lie told to try and diminish Puss' guilt while teasing him and still giving him the hint that she is still interested in trying a relationship again with the "You just don't seem like that guy anymore"
Edit: Another fun fact that I remembered watching the Puss V Death scene.
You can’t spell DreamWorks without W
You can only spell Disney without Y, because Z is reserved for truly horrid movies.
This movie is a dream and it just works
Jiminy Cricket is the name given to the Disney version of the character so it’s copyrighted. They can still call him the cricket. He’s credited as ethnical bug but he’s definitely supposed to be Jiminy
Doing a Jimmy Stewart impression. I call him Jimminy Stewart
btw jack horner is a nursery rhyme :,,Little Jack horner sat in the eating a horner pie stuck his thumb in the plumb and said what a good boy am i!"
I think Kitty did show up to the wedding - think about how angry she was immediately upon seeing Puss. She only said she didn't show up to give him an out after she heard him speaking to Perrito.
The jimmy stewart impression being used for the cricket voice was hilarious
I know Kitty said she didn't show up either, but she's such a skilled thief that no one ever sees her coming. I'd like to think that she used that skill to be there without being there.
15:39 : Jack is gonna grow a conscience...
Me hearing this: HAHAHAHAHAHAHAH
Everyone deserves a Perrito in their lives, especially those that need a "Emotional Support Dog"
Perrito stole my heart from the moment I saw him! I’m always gushing like a schoolgirl when I see him. As Perrito said. “Cuteness overload”!
I’m calling it right now, Perrito and Donkey are gonna be besties!
20:47 I think she only said that to make him feel better. After all, if she didn't show, how would she have known Puss wasn't there?
When you learn that the wolf is voiced by the dude who played Pablo Escobar in Narcos
3:50: If you search for death abilities and powers, he can teleport
Im so glad you’ve caught most if not all of the Easter eggs!
I had a good experience seeing this on the big screen a couple days ago.
Seriously, folks try seeing it in theaters. It's really something.
Watched this movie twice, once by myself and once with my sister, it immediately became one of my top DreamWorks movies, maybe even one of my top movies period. It’s such a great and wholesome movie, it’s up there with HTTYD for me, I love it so much.
I saw it once in theaters -- by myself as it happened -- but so far, three more times in the next closest format: reaction/commentary videos.
This movie has immediately surpassed HTTYD for me, it’s now my favourite movie
The amount of hints it gives for the wolf being death that you only see with a rewatch and the knowledge of them is super cool. Even stuff like the gold on the eyes to mimic the Greek tradition of leaving coins on the eyes of the dead for them to give to Charon for passage to the underworld
I really liked the First movie too, but this one blew everything away for me, top 1 movie imo
@20:59 shes lying to make puss feel better.
how else would she know he left her if she didn't show?
@27:50 my favorite quote from when i was a kid
none can defeat death or conquer him, but many can learn from him.
This is the 4th Puss in Boots reaction I saw and you're the first person to recognize John Mulaney's voice.
I noticed it almost instantly😂
Jack horner was one of the many little songs making fun of rich guys, but then the story of pinocchio overshadowed those.
His name in the short song was "little jack horner" so now his name is big jack horner cause he was the boy who stuck his thumb in the pies, but now he owns them and he wants to feel powerful.
This movie brought back what shrek did and i'm still so happy for this gem. I cry every time i watch it, from the art to the story and the ending.
Finally watched this yesterday, so I can watch your reaction, this movie surprised me at how good it was visually and plot wise. I think I liked eveey character in this
Oh wow! You are as smart as you are pretty Clariss!
I loved this reaction, thanks for taking the time to make this video!
Good job on the reaction Clariss. Can't get enough of your smile!
A detail it took me a few watches to catch is wherever the characters are looking at the map in the forest, they can see the location of everyone except the Wolf. Just another subtle hint at his true identity.
My theory is that Kitty did show up, which is why she was so pissed at him, but told him she didn't so he'd feel less bad.
20:55
THANK YOU, someone else finally said it!
SHREK 5 can't wait !!! This movie was amazing
I almost like the whistle better when it's slowed down like this. Sounds just a touch more haunting.
Came back juat to give my appreciation on how sync you and perrito were at 18:30 😂
I just watched the German version and they were so daring with the swearing there lol it caught me so off guard. I thought Germany was going to be super uptight about this and make it extremely child friendly.
When mama bear holds Perrito by his scruff, she doesn't say "Clever little bugger", she says "clever little shit". Baby doesn't say "cat pee", he says "cat piss", and when Perrito talks about all the names his previous owners gave him, he doesn't say "**** for brains", he says "***ck face", and one of the sisters at Jack Horner's bakery says "geiler Scheiß" which means "cool shit" ("geil" is a rather vulgar word that most commonly gets used to describe hot girls or guys you want to have sex with)
"speaks in spanish" - puss in boots: the last wish captions
my favourite scene is the scythe coming down on the metal bolt: frame by frame you see the scythe come down first, and the bolt splits in two with a glowing red ends from the heat generated by the friction.
I love how you can see the wolf in the crowd during Puss' fight with the giant.
I like to believe Kitty lied that she didnt appear at the wedding to spare his feelings in the moment 😂
Perrito is an iconic character
One thing I heard mentioned, and I really appreciate since then, is in the panic attack scene. It's easy to expect it'll be resolved with belly rubs, as it seems to be foreshadowed earlier. But, in that moment, there's no joke, no corny solution, just sombre companionship. I have to wonder if that was a deliberate, denial of payoff to the earlier prompt for emphasis
Clariss’ reactions here are so funny and adorable
I don't know why but Everytime the puppies map vision comes up I can her Sammy Davis Jr the candy man playing for some reason 🤣
21:00 she probably was there but she heard how sorry he felt for not showing up and tried to make him fell better to say it in a easy way.
7:10 He also did the Spanish dub! As did Antonio Banderas and Selma Hayek.
death was there for each of puss’s lives lost. .
The title cards had death’s hood and sickles as flourishes on the corners.
And death was in the crowd when puss was fighting the sleeping giant. In a doorway, when the crowd did the wave.
(At 27:30) Saber? I thought that was a Rapier?
That happiness at 30:29 onwards is ✨everything ✨
i was already sold on puss on boots sequel, then i watched that scene where perrito calms puss down on youtube. then i had to watch this movie. i dont think in 2023 any movie is gonna beat this
The cricket with the Jimmy Stewart voice is my favorite part of the whole movie ❤
you are literally so good at predicting whats gonna happen wow
DreamWorks: What Disney thinks it is. (It WAS, but no longer.)
Disney: The Ed Wood(en) company of animation.
Dreamworks: majority of all their successful movies were released more than a decade ago.
Dreamworks made more money this year than Pixar.
I think Kitty said that to make him feel less guilty
The Death Wolf is up there with Tai-Lung in terms of my favorite dreamworks villians
I think Kitty was just saying she didn’t show up to spare Puss’ feelings after overhearing his convo with Perrito
If you notice, Death only pursues Puss when he's being irrational and running towards danger. When he's being Puss In Boots.
Thanks for the video. I enjoyed it.
