No lie, the Nike commercial was genuine art. Not only did it effectively tell a compelling story set to Lacrymosa, but their use of lighting and cinematography was very reminiscent of the style of Renaissance painting known as *chiaroscuro*, intentionally using the heavy shadowing and low lights to help set the tone of the commercial, on top of the very crowded but symmetric framing of the shots. Simply bellisimo~
I was thinking the same.
couldnt agree more!
This is the time I wish UA-cam can also support google translate… So much nouns for me🥹🥹
it honestly gave me goosebumps omg
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I would even say this commercial is Baroque rather than Renaissance. Mainly because of the cinematography and theatrical aspect of it, and the fact that the background elements are few. Chiaroscuro was indeed used in both periods but I feel like it was more extreme during the Baroque period.
TwoSet as dolphins is an image that will live rent free in my head
cutest ever🥰
@@phantomunderwater5828 right??? Cute and snarky just like our lads
I´m actually writing my master thesis on the use of Mozart´s Lacrimosa in film and series right now... And I´ve asked myself the same question: Would Mozart approve of his music basically becoming a meme?
If Mozart was being paid for its use -- absolutely!
@@operablogger My exact same thoughts! 😄
Omg that sounds interesting
Mozart didn't write requiem
Mozart was aware of the text; I’m guessing he would find it extremely weird that it’s being used to sell stuff.
For the ad at 7:30 , just a thought about the bulbs.... my cousin directs commercials. He made one years ago with Chris Pine where they made a ton of lights explode repeatedly... the lights were actually made of sugar. They looked like glass but it was just sugar made to look like light bulbs and they added some effects to make it look real. He said it was safer and a lot cheaper

God damn you guys are truly soul mate!! I expect Eddy to show off his perfect pitch (again), but saying 7:19 together is, EPIC!! And this made me think that, if these musicians are still alive, they must be RICH AF lol Hopefully they won't copy strike as much lol
Edit: I actually thought this is going to be a roast video, like, roasting overused or stereotyped classical pieces in commercials, but it turned out to be an appreciation (?) video! Love it!
Me too. I was waiting for Canon in D
@@xandraxandra1437 ikr lol They are so positive this time lol
I agree!
I think this one is less of a presenting and roasting, or talking about pieces, but more of a looking at/reviewing these ads together, for example, you have the 10 Most Overplayed Classical Pieces or Classical music in commercials video, where they present and talk about the thing, then roast/review it. I think this one is more of looking at it for the first time, and thoughts on it, to make wholesomeness after their probable project.
@@timsamong True, review is a better word indeed!
Yeah perfect pitch ganggg
Also for Mozart, the greatest opera overture - The opening bars of Le Nozze di Figaro aka The Marriage of Figaro - has been used quite a bit, if memory serves.
i feel like people think classical music is so ‘niche’ and ‘rare’ but in reality they hear it everywhere.
example:
person 1: hey, what music do you listen to?
person 2: uhh classical
person 1: wow, ive never heard it before
person 2: you know *insert beethoven symphony 5*
It is not rare but still niche. You don't expect that person to voluntary search for Beethoven's 5th to listen to.

I love that car commercial with Antonio Vivaldi's 4 season (Summer); heavy metal (Van Halen style.)
The heavy metal style suited the ad but it was very generic as Eddy said... I mean who is gonna remember the make of car after that? NOT good advertising...
@@wakingtheworld Exactly Cassandra! I only remembered the heavy metal "Summer" as far as which car was it? No one remembers...
You guys returned from Sydney to Brisbane real fast! (Kidding :P) So inspiring to see you both practising so hard for comcerts even while producing these fun vids!
Pre-prepared I imagine. They had a few vids 'saved' when Editor-san was ill recently so there wasn't a yawning gap in their upload schedule....
@@wakingtheworld Yeah, I was just kidding haha. Still, their practice for the concert would have been going on for a long time!

For anyone wanting to watch Brett make the baby face : 10:14
Surprised Dvorak's 9th wasn't mentioned. I swear i've heard it in so many commercials!
It is so true!
The lightbulbs breaking is probably in reference to the invention of the lightbulb where he supposedly failed to make it over a thousand times but kept going.
This will probably get lost in the sea of 500+ comments but I just one to put it here that Twoset really are such an inspiration. They've done so much and come so far I've never been prouder 💜
Lol 😂
bro, can twoset like make their own version of using classical pieces in daily life situation? but honestly, i enjoyed this video very much and coincidentally, I bought a bubble tea today🥰, I LOVE TWOSET VIOLIN!!
They kind of did, in their sketch, "if my life had a classical music soundtrack"
(it was something like that)
The first piece that comes to mind for me is Verdi's Dies Irae. It's played in so many adverts...and I'm here for it every single time!
Back in 80’s, Apple’s commercial used Bach’s Two-parts Invention no.13 which I played on music theory class. You two were not even born yet, lol.😂
My absolute favourite reworking of a classical piece is "Lacrymosa" by Evanescence, which does use excerpts of Lacrimosa. It keeps it a bit more fresh/interesting when the original is quite oversaturated!
Plus people have described her voice as a violin. I agree.
Good shout, i forgot she did churchy music
5:25 But why does that actually fit the rhythm though? I love it😂
Congratulations for yesterdays encore guys! So proud of you!💕💕💕
1. "Lacrimosa" from Requiem in D minor, K. 626 by Mozart
2. "Der Hölle Rache" from Die Zauberflöte, K. 620 by Mozart
3. Presto from "Summer" (The Four Seasons) by Vivaldi
4. Allegro con brio from Symphony No. 5 in C minor, Op. 67 by Beethoven
5. "Für Elise" by Beethoven
6. Overture to "William Tell" by Rossini
7. "Habanera" from "Carmen" by Bizet
8. "Ride of the Valkyries" from "Die Walkure" by Wagner
9. "Also Sprach Zarathustra" by Richard Strauss

@@SmartIce123 you're welcome 🤗
Dolphins are the symbols of Venice the commercial is filmed partly in Venice (California), L.A., and Malibu. So that's why the dolphins.
@@rustydog1236 I really do not see the point of this comment. It's irrelevant and doesn't make any sense. I only wanted to list the pieces of classical music included in this video. There are no dolphins included.
kinda amusing for me that you used the Ö for "Hölle" but not the Ü for "Für"
I know metal isn’t everyone’s cup of tea and as a vocalist I steer very far away from screamo but I looooooove me a good “crunchy” guitar solo and a raucous chorus. I also will never turn away from a good classical scoring of a well written popular song and vice versa. I’m a firm believer that good music is good music, regardless of genre. Metallica did a collaboration with the San Francisco Symphony orchestra back in the 90’s that is just -chefs kiss-. I highly recommend for any of those classical music nerds who are intersectional with metal heads.
So much this! Heck, symphonic metal exists as the natural combination of the two for a reason.
Btw, if you want to check out an absolutely incredible classical singer in a metal context, look up the live performance of the Elizabeth trilogy by Kamelot. Their singer at the time, Roy Khan, is still regarded as one of the best vocalists in metal.
0:37 - Noot, noot!
lmao i LOST it at the Carmen ad "are you stuck in the door?" XD omg i laughed forever after your reactions hahhahah. And the bubble tea song you guys came up with was so good!!
Love the ad at 4:36 the most 🤣
Honestly same
The two pieces they missed which I hear constantly, are the Bach cello suite #1, and the Beethoven Well Tempered Clavier Book 1 Prelude 1.
Oh my goodenss, the tea add. IS THE BEST ONE! Go Eddy and Brett!

Sending huge hugs! 🤗🫂🤗
In NZ there’s an add by Chorus about fibre internet and the music they used was Claire De Lune played on a theremin and I report the ad every time it comes up 😂
The Nike Lacrimosa video looks shot-for-shot like a series of paintings. It's pretty impressive in the lighting, the arrangement of people, the action.
They definitely looked at some paintings by Rembrandt or whoever. Too intentional for anything else.
BGM and music not mentioned in the video:
Intro & Outro: Strauss - On the Beautiful Blue Danube
3:17 Donna Summer - I Feel Love
4:26 Vivaldi - Summer, 3rd mvt
10:27 Zimmer & Badelt - He's a Pirate

I haven't seen you guys in ages so I don't know if you've seen this before. There's an old car ad, Renault Ballett. It's quite beautiful, in my head.
The intro to the film, The Fall, used to be my favourite slo-mo classical music combo but that Nike ad is a masterpiece, my new fave.
I love it when I hear the transposing up in William Tell Overture! This gets me everything!! ;)
I understand your feelings about the Alexa ad, but personally I'm impressed how smoothly it went from opera to Donna Summer's I feel love, which happens to be a rather epic song vocal -wise. Also, can't believe that being a metalhead myself I've never heard that Vivaldi cover! I mean, I'm aware there is a metal cover of everything out there, but I was surprised how well it turned out.
Check out Marcin Jakubek. He makes cool metal covers of classical pieces.
I WAS THERE!!! 2ND ROW FROM THE FRONT, ABSOLUTELY LOST IT WHEN Y’ALL WALKED ON. AMAZING EXPERIENCE.
I just noticed that today ( this video ) twoset’ s intro is the calmest of all the other ones I’ve watched
Usually either one if them or both gets hyped and screams LING LING 40 HOURS etc

Yeah, the delivery could've been a bit better, but I think they did alright with it.
@@theclarionhall4755 nope, it’s more of the fact that I wasn’t expecting them to make a joke about an abuse victim, just cause the entire internet fell for an obvious smear campaign by her abusive ex.

Best use of Lacrimosa imo is the teaser trailer/intro for Tomb Raider Underworld
In France (and maybe in other countries), for the Renault Zoé car ad, they played the music "The blue Danube", which is quite IntEresTinG because the electricity shown in this ad is bright blue (the car is an electric car), and the sky is also blue at the beginning
