4:05 In Korea, students hang themselves to be free from bullying and students die because they're hit too mich. Bullies will mix Fanta or coke or any other drink with school food and force the victims to eat the waste. So yeah, that kind of thing happens in schools. I mean, in America bullies slam your lunch trau, so why not?
@E hmm I don't think they are assuming it is in America, if they were assuming a location it was Korea. They just mentioned what happens in America as another example from a very different place. But I must say.... as an European I am terrified. No one gets bullied in such way. Words are pretty much the near maximum. In Slovakia you would most likely get your Behavioural Grade lowered for slamming someones lunch and if you were to repeat it you would get either expelled or in likely hood of repeating the grade. (You don't have lessons on behaviour or anything but they mark it. If you are normal (not aggressive pretty much or not doing some inappropriate stuff like damaging property) you always get the highest grade automatically.
In Indonesia, most of the time no physical (except if you're from SMPN/SMAN). Usually, bullying in school is like stealing, Bad words, talking behind their back, Vandalizing to school property that the bullied use, Or just discrimination, they don't want to hear what you say/what you do, spilling water on the chair also happen, making rumor. Tbh, both mentally and phsically hurt you in same way and make you feel insecure, and at the end, You'll have depresion. Yea, I have experience all above so, Hope you guys don't
I’m Deaf and I play violin and clarinet, and a little bit of flute. Deafness is a spectrum y’all, I play some octaves better than others. Picking up on note vibrations and frequency really helps too. Because the violin is a soundboard you can legit feel it.
Yes! I'm so proud of you! I'm a flute player. Unfortunately I'm legally blind and deaf.....but like you said, octaves can be played better. I use a special metronome that vibrates each beat. The down beat is stronger. It helped my other deaf sister who tried playing the drums. I use it to help with practicing. Music is a beautiful thing blind or deaf....or both 😅
@Yanjun Sun in all honesty? During my junior year of high school when I found out my condition, I told myself "I gotta keep moving forward...this is no time to mope around. I still have school and marching band left. This shit isn't gonna stop me." I'll be honest, there were times where I want to throw my instruments away and just never touch it again...but I love playing my instruments. I'll always find my way around, it just takes time. (And lots of encouragement)❤️
Just turning on my literary analysis side, I think the "close your eyes, you will see" was an attempt at a sort of comparison between her limited sensations. If you close your eyes, you can't see. If you are deaf you can't hear. The old man is trying to make a sort of empowering message that you can do anything you want to, even if your senses seem to be working against you. When you close your eyes, you can see. Even though you are deaf, you can hear. Of course, the logistical aspect of this doesn't really make much sense, but the message and hope are nice.
This was seriously in my school orientation video and when they asked us what commercial do we think this is from, we jokingly said a shampoo commercial and the fact that we were right still blew my mind..
As a hard of hearing horn player, I have a hard time hearing (lol) myself in ensembles so I use the vibrations I can feel from my hand in the bell to make sure im actually playing the right notes. Idk if a similar thing is possible with violin tho. also the sign language scene was super awkward too because they weren't oriented towards each other at all. like she couldn't see what he was signing bc his body was blocking her sightline.
It's called synesthesia, it's where two senses are connected. It's genetic, and there are many many forms of it. Seeing music, hearing color, and seeing time are the more common ones.
Evelyn Glennie is deaf and she is a genius on the glockenspiel … she plays through the vibration in her toes and feet! I knew a girl at junior school who was going deaf and she learned violin by vibration of the instrument on her chest It was beautiful to watch 🎻
Actually hearing impaired people can enjoy music by feeling the vibrations. They may not "listen" to music in the same way as others do, but they still can enjoy it.
I have to say, the community here is just awesome. I love reading comments on this video from people who have helped deaf musicians and/or are hard of hearing or deaf musicians themselves. Thank you for relating your experiences, they're very inspiring.
I'll upvote this - and its reply. I may not be deaf or anything, but I was pretty shocked at the ignorance some of your (TwoSet's) commentary displayed. So I challenge TwoSet to get out there and make us some videos of trying to play the violin with all kinds of handicaps: deaf, blind, whatever!
I have a deaf friend who plays violin. So yeah it’s possible. Sound is vibrations, if you can learn to hear the notes you can learn to feel the notes and differentiate it that way.
We bullied a deaf girl, killed a father figure, spouted philosophical musical nonsense, hired thugs to torment the innocent, and smashed a violin - then.....taped it back together.......... *Buy our shampoo*
I started watching thinking there were gonna be multiple commercials because of the video duration but now I'm just like 'how can one ad be that long?'
Yeah you feel it vibrate and it will feel different slightly if it is flat or off, so they could maybe adjust. The closing your eyes actually might make sense, because they can't hear so the only thing to focus on is the feeling. IDK if people can, but it doesn't seem completely out of the realm of possibility.
Oh god I remember during orientation day in my college, I, along with a bunch of new students, was shown this Thai ad because we are an art college (and one of the courses covered was advertising). I used to play the violin and the piece they chose was the most overplayed piece for violinists xD And when they dropped pantene at the end a bunch of students just threw their hands up and went "oh come on it would have made more sense if you promoted hearing aids or yamaha. As a hard of hearing person, hearing loss varies from person to person, so someone could maybe have enough hearing left to hear the violin notes. I play the keyboard and having a hearing loss. I've also known people who played other instruments.
@ Hey, you have misunderstood the definition of deaf. It does not just mean someone who can hear nothing at all. Rather it is to be partially or wholly lacking or deprived of the sense of hearing.

I'm pretty sure if you couldn't hear a car sitting on the horn right behind you you wouldn't be able to hear intonation on your violin. Can I ask, are you more sensitive to the varying vibrations your instrument makes when playing? ie. can that help you know which notes you're playing? It's often said/thought that other senses are increased when one of the senses is impaired so I was just wondering if something like that would be more pronounced to you compared to someone without any hearing loss.

deaf people can read lips. also, it's possible the girl can feel the vibrations of the music. while Beethoven was deaf, he wasn't born as such and already knew theory and everything. He became deaf later on in life and he learned to compose while deaf through previous knowledge and vibrations of the piano.
Beethoven composed also before he went deaf, so he had that going for him. At around 1812 he completely lost all of his remaining hearing. Still, his best and most known works are after that year. It is not exactly known what made him deaf, but he was reported to be suffering from recurring ear infections. Perhaps something that is treatable in this day and age.

Hi! as someone who’s hard of hearing (HoH), with moderate to severe hearing loss, usually a ‘deaf’ person who isn’t completely deaf would be seen wearing a hearing device which would help them to hear generally! these devices can be seen as either: hearing aids or a cochlea implant, which are typically worn inside the ears or just above the ear on the head. These devices are personalised specifically to your hearing severity so you can pick up on sounds you either can’t usually hear (or sounds that are lowered incase your hearing is sensitive to sounds that are loud for you). Just incase y’all wanted some clarity on how we hear! I personally like the ad other than when the guy says music is a visual thing. Everything requires most of our senses we use in everyday life lol so I could see the in accuracy. Also the bowing lmaooooo. But never the less, it’s great that there is some representation of some certain struggles deaf people go through! I do realise that in some cultures a hearing disability is portrayed negatively, and often people are bullied because of it. Whether this be culture, or the nature of the person bullying someone, please understand that not everyone who has a disability will follow this stigma that we will give up on trying things that may be more difficult for us! it just means we have to work a little harder, and if you love playing an instrument (like me lol, I play the ukulele, and have recently shown interest in the violin) then you’d have more fun working towards something you love! And again, like Twoset say: “go practise!” it helps a lot lol. Thanks for reading! :)

In Korea, students hang themselves to be free from bullying and students die because they're hit too mich. Bullies will mix Fanta or coke or any other drink with school food and force the victims to eat the waste. So yeah, that kind of thing happens in schools. I mean, in America bullies slam your lunch trau, so why not?

In Thailand, it doesn‘t different.

Very well said! I think it makes perfect sense (metaphorically seen) 😄

Yeah you feel it vibrate and it will feel different slightly if it is flat or off, so they could maybe adjust. The closing your eyes actually might make sense, because they can't hear so the only thing to focus on is the feeling. @@cfromnowhere They are musicians, honey. Their entire living depends on hearing and listening to music. To be not able to hear, that isn't a reality they can even imagine. deaf people can read lips. also, it's possible the girl can feel the vibrations of the music.
while Beethoven was deaf, he wasn't born as such and already knew theory and everything.
