  • Ashley Stroehlein: Coach Rivera, you're gearing up to make a trip back to Charlotte for a special event with Veterans Bridge Home. What is it about that organization that makes you wanna dedicate your time to them?
Ron Rivera: Well, first and, uh, mostly importantly is because it, it serves our veteran community. You know, veterans homes, connects to veterans and their families with a new community in the state that they're transitioning into, you know, and it's very difficult going someplace where we really don't have a lot of connections and that's what the Veterans Bridge home is all about is trying to connect the veterans and their family with a new community.
Ashley Stroehlein: And your father dedicated over 30 years of his life to serving our country. How did that growing up in that household, maybe shape your values and, and how you've coached and, and just how you do life in general.
Ron Rivera: Well, I think the big thing more than anything else is you see how the military community really takes care of themselves as much as they can. And then their service is selfless. It, it's all about the country. You know, they did everything they, they, they can and unfortunately some even had the ultimate sacrifice for our country. But when you give of yourself so freely, you deserve to be taken care of eventually by the people that you serve. And that's what this is. It's an opportunity to give back to the veterans that did so much for us.
Ashley Stroehlein: And for you, I feel like you're always making a trip back to Charlotte and still giving back to our community here. Why is that important for you and your family?
Ron Rivera: It's very important for Stephanie and I, and, and, and quite honestly for, for, for our, our kids as well as because we, we really loved Charlotte. We really did. I mean, we were treated so so well and when, and, and the people respected us, uh in terms of always being there to support us, you know, you guys know about the fire we had in, in, in, in our home and, and back in 2015 and just the way the community reached out to us. And so it's really one of those things that we need to give back to you folks. And that's because we really do love the Queen City of Charlotte.
Ashley Stroehlein: And for you this year, stepping into an analyst role, getting into some TV. What has that been like for you? And, and how are you enjoying it?
Ron Rivera: It's been interesting. I will tell you that, you know, that as well. It's just, you know, it gives me a different perspective to look at the games right now and, and, and it's been very interesting watching the season. It's progressed and, you know, it's, uh, it's been exciting. Um, one thing I have learned is that, uh, you know, I'm, I'm not criticized, like I have been in the past, which is kind of a nice thing. But, uh, it's been really cool. It has been.
Ashley Stroehlein: All right. I'm gonna ask you to be my analyst for a bit in this segment. But if you take a look at the situation here in Carolina with the Panthers, obviously a heavy week last week with making the decision to, to sit Bryce Young and star Andy Dalton. What's your take on, on that decision and then how it all played out on Sunday with Dalton Le leading the Panthers to a win?
Ron Rivera: Well, it was, it was a very bold and courageous move. I think that the organization had had to make and, and, you know, I went through the same thing in 2020 when I was in Washington, I sat down a high draft pick at quarterback and we went with, with some veterans including Taylor Heinecke and, uh, and Alex Smith and they got us into the playoffs. You know, so it's about winning and, and, and I love the way that Coach Canales has stepped up the way he handled it. Really making sure everybody understood it. It's not just about one player, but it's about all 53 players. And, you've got to do your best to give these guys an opportunity to believe that everything you're doing is to win. So I thought coach handled that very nicely. And then I really love what he said after the game. And, you know, and that was really about talking about the process and right now, you know, having to sit Bryce is just this part of Bryce's process of learning and growing how he handles it, how he comes out of it, that will be up to him. And it'll say a lot about who he is as a young man and a young football player. I think he's a very talented guy that just needs a little more time to grow. And, you know, you got a guy like Andy Dalton who's a veteran who's done some really good things in this league. And, and has been a winner in this league, can help this football team a lot and can help set the future very brightly for this, this organization. So, um, I'm gonna hold my breath and continue to cheer for him."

@@NiceDiggzbrother his name was Dom capers and he had a sub 500 win percentage. Rivera is the winningest HC we've had with the highest win% as well. Most playoff berths of any of our head coaches plus 2x NFL Coach of the Year. We don't have a long history but yes he's the best coach we've had.

Not at all. Ron's tenure was just the most successful... a 9 year run with not only a Super Bowl appearance but 3 consecutive NFC South Titles plus he won NFL Coach of the year twice with a regular season record of 76-63-1 and a 3-4 playoff record. No slight to any of the other coaches we've had but he is clearly the most decorated coach in Carolina Panthers history and deserves to be acknowledged as such.

@@nickdantzler9194I like Ron more but that 2003 season was special under John fox. He coached two different teams to two super bowls, lost em both tho.

Fox and Rivera both were very good, they had good runs,if not for running back injuries,Fox would have had more success.

This man is a true Legend, a man of truth, righteous ideals, and power to be a force for good. I love how he previously made moves for the Commanders as Canales and his team did with Bryce, sit a high draft pick and get some wins.

Eviro is an incredible coach, I personally like a 4-3 defense myself but there is no denying the success that Eviro has had even with tons of injuries and a limited roster. Eviro is one of the sole reasons we were in a lot of those games last year when the offense couldn’t perform even at the most basic of levels. I felt he should have been made coach much like Steve Wilkes before him but our owner is obsessed with winning with an offensive minded head coach.
I feel like with Eviro we have a head coach on defense and a head coach on offense with Dave Canales. If they stay together I truly think this team could go places over the next few years. Unfortunately the league sees how good he is too and that could easily result in him getting a head coaching position and us being back on the hunt for a defensive coordinator.
