I wish ebay still did soley auctions! I remember watching the timer and watching items go sky high. Those were the funnest ebay times.
It's can really be exciting
I can't believe people wouldn't pay. I always pay at the end of an auction and I don't bid on something if I don't have the money for it 😏
SAME! I can't imagine bidding on something that I really had no intention of buying. And if something really went wrong, I'd at least send the seller a note and let them know so that they could relist it.
@TheChaChingKing I know I would do the EXACT same thing! That did happen to me on Facebook Marketplace a few years back. My car had broken down and I had to travel about an hour to get the item and I knew I wouldn't be able to and that I wouldn't be able to afford the item now that I had to fix my car. So zi messaged the woman and explained my situation and she said that if it was still available when I may be able to purchase it again to let her know, well a week later I was able to get it and it all worked out and she included a few other items with my purchase that I liked that weren't selling for her. Honesty is ALWAYS the way to go because it will be rewarded in the end.
Yes! Very informational and entertaining! I haven't done an auction in years, and when I did, it was usually on a Sunday. I have to wonder why you didn't have it end on your usual day and time? Inquiring minds want to know. Lol
I ended it at this time...because...well...let me think of a good reason. LOL I don't have a good reason.
Thanks, Scot. Having never done an ebay auction myself, I found this quite interesting and informative.
I had a patch that I was unsure about looked at some that were similar put it on an auction for 10.99 And at the end of it, the cha ching was so exciting it went for 38.99 and I was happy with that! Thank you for sharing!!!
You really never know.
I don't know a thing about fishing lours, but I loved the design! Yeah!!!
Some of them are nothing short of art.
Thank you Scot, it was great to see! You are the marketing king! Russ
Ha! Thank you
I’ve been watching and learning from all your videos. I have not yet listed anything with EBAY but have literally given away hundreds of very valuable items dirt cheap at yard sales . This video has shown changed my thinking. Thank you . Danny
You can do it!
Another great video! Scott, would just like to say thanks for all you have done to help fellow ebay sellers. As for myself I was an eBay buyer for 20+ years but thanks to your online coaching I became an eBay Seller just over a month ago. Following your lead and watching your videos two, three or more times it helped me get started. As of today, just over a month of selling we are approaching 1k in sales. Again thanks for all your help.
A THOUSAND dollars! That is a tremendous start!!! Pat yourself on the back. :-)
Great video!
Timely! I have a couple of items that may do well at auction, but haven't held one yet. This video answered all my general concerns about auctions. Now to decide whether to start an auction on Superbowl Sunday...
Starting it on a Sunday is usually a good idea. It will end at a good time. Ending it on Superbowl Sunday would be bad. LOL
Thanks for sharing your experience. I have run two auctions 1) Pair of vintage roller skates that came in a carrier box 2) A Hooters advertising Golf Bag. I think I started them at $100 and they both went for over $200! I was very happy but I still was very nervous til they paid!!!
Sounds like you did GREAT! And, YEAH, we shouldn't have to worry about getting paid. I think that's improving, but it shouldn't even be a thing.
Amazing advice! I’ve never auctioned off anything before. How exciting!! That was a great buy and sale! 🎉🎉🎉
It really was, Jessy. Super fun item. I kind of thought it would go for $400-500....but still. $350 for a lure?!? They must be catching better fish than I do. LOL
If they don't pay I just block them after reporting to Ebay a non-payment cancelation. It will be their lost. Also Ebay will kick them out if they have 2 more cancelations for no paying.
I do the same.
Cool video. Very informative.❤❤❤
Thank you!
That's awesome Scot! I haven't done an auction in a while = sometimes I think it will be the best option though. Maybe I'll try again :)
It really does have to be the right item. :-)
Bless you, Sir. New here, but you are my guru!
🕊❤
Wow, thank you
I've had people not ship off stuff I won for the starting bid so often that I have stopped wasting my time trying to buy stuff at auction. These weren't .99 starting bids either they were at least %30 of the value of a brand new instance of that item. I don't do auctions ever I just post it up for the going rate all time & then wait for either a fair offer or a buyout.
I totally understand that. I feel like putting something up for auction is the same as giving my word that I will complete the sale. I don't have any item that's worth more than my word.
How cool!!!
Right?!
Woo hoo Scot! Excellent piece!
Interesting information! Ty
Thanks again!
Great vid, thanks! I have noticed some sellers seem to auction stuff really cheep, but they have the shipping very high. Is that ok to do? Be well CCK!
You can do that. I try to just get close on the shipping. The customer can leave you feedback based on shipping fees, so I try to keep mine reasonable if I can.
Can't you offer it to the next highest bidder if it's not paid? I remember when ebay was an auction site and buy-it-now wasn't a thing! Thanks, that was fun!
You can do that. My luck with that has been so-so. But that's a good point that I failed to make.
DAM!!! $350... AMAZING!!!
Isn't that amazing!
Wish I would've watch this video before listing a bunch of items at auction lol 😅
First...awesome name. LOL Second, if that the biggest "mistake" you make, you're golden. At a minimum, you'll have some experience with auctions. Your experiences might be better. But that experience is probably worth more than whatever you've listed.
Awesome! Thanks for responding @@TheChaChingKing
Good morning! Hope this sells for a billion bucks!
😀
Ah. Not a billion! Excellent video!
So close!
Thanks for sharing you all have a blessed day in the name of Jesus Christ.
Thank you!
Wahoo!!
Thanks!
What printer do you use for storage labels? It looks clean and I like your method of storage.
I am using an old Brother QL-700 with the 2.4" label. But it has been replaced by the QL-800. I've had the 700 for about 6 years. The QL-800 is actually cheaper. I have an Amazon affiliate link for it, but you could just as easily look it up. The affiliate link gives me a small commission is you buy the thing after using it. So, by pass this and you won't hurt my feelings. :-)

You could also find the older model on eBay pretty cheap from time to time.
Hello Scott! I enjoy your videos. And I know you have talked about eBay FEES. But could you please tell me in a month of very good sales, what amount is being taken away in fees and costs for listing pictures and all of the other costs involved listing on eBay. Let’s say in a month you have $10,000 in sales what percentage of that do you actually keep? I sold items on eBay 2 times …… in the 90s and just in 2019. I left both times due to being scammed and have a very bitter feeling towards ever trying again. I feel there are more people who would do anything to make it very unpleasant for selling online. I’m very happy for you and wish you continued success. But I feel more confident selling at flea markets while meeting my customers face to face. I await your reply and hope you continue to make inspiring videos!
I appreciate the kind words. I really do. For me, the costs and fees are always around 15%, not including shipping. The thing about local sales and flea markets is that you are 100% done with the sale when they leave with it. that's a huge bonus. And, that just isn't the case on any online platform. That said, I can usually get more for my items on eBay that I would at a flea market. Another benefit is that my item is literally in front of tens of thousands of potential buyers. The downside to eBay is that you might run into a scammer...someone dishonest. but it happens to me so rarely that it isn't something I really have to worry about.
Where did you get that Darnell's shirt?!
I found it online last summer. I couldn't even tell you the place I bought it from. It was pretty random.
I normally only sell as Buy it Now and payment immediately but I have an item that I started an auction with. This is the first one and when I did the listing I selected the auction and it had buy it now too. So I set the starting price and entered a price I would sell it for. Have you ever done this before? I tried to remove the buy it now because I had visions of the auction going over that figure and someone coming in and buying it for the lower amount before the auction finished. What would I set as my payment policy and can I do it for just this item? Thanks for all your videos, they have helped so much.
You just don't turn on the buy-it-now option. It is sometimes on by default. Without buy-it-now, you need to have a payment policy that doesn't require immediate payment.
Ebay started as an auction and to me it will always be. I sell stamps on ebay and won't do it any other way.
Buy it now turns ebay into a flea market
If auctions are working for you, keep doing it! For us, when I have the right item, I love auctions.
Scott you started the auction at $200. I am wanting to do an auction, but won't sell my item cheaply. Is putting a higher starting price the way to achieve that outcome? ( As opposed to the .99c start which seems very risky?)
I start mine at a price I can live with. If it's worth it, it'll get at least one bid. If not, I might try and run it again or adjust my expectations.
@@TheChaChingKing thank you so much.
How many days is ideal to run an auction?
I always run mine for 7 days. Since I've never really run any other duration, I can't really compare,.
Hi I sold something on eBay the the buyer left me negative feedback I ask her if I half refund and you remove feedback she agrees I refund half and send her feedback reverse request now she keep telling me she don’t know how to remove feedback and need help do you have any video on that so I can send her link,? Thank you
If she agreed to remove it and told you that, I would reach out to eBay for Business on Facebook and get their help. You worked with the customer, had an agreement, and she hasn't kept her word. I bet they will take it off for you.
