It's the First Sabbath album I listened to when It came out. I was 14 and I saw them in concert in my hometown (Bologna, Italy) for that tour. Great Memories !!

I met Bill Ward at an NA meeting in Long Beach, CA.and he is one of the nicest guy I've had the pleasure to meet.had on a Sabbath t-shirt, but could tell he didn't want to talk about that.gave me his phone number and said to call him if I need to talk about my drug problem . very cool guy and a great drummer!!!👍👍

Alot of ppl don't understand that Ozzy made up random lyrics to sing in order to get his melody down. After that, he'd sing Geezer's lyrics. LOL to ppl complaining of shitty lyrics😊

Since, when I was 8 I have been loving Bill´s drumming.. did not understand a word of English but still watching Paris 1970 show. Sad that drugs and alcohol destroyed his physical health and stanima, plus I think on Vol 4. he shines the most

That instrumental version of Under The Sun with no overdubs gave me goosebumps.

This is proof of how Ozzy sounded without overdubbing in the studio. Just like they did to Greg on the Brady Bunch with his Johnny Bravo

I think Ozzy's voice has held up quite well compared to his contemporaries, way better than Robert Plant and practically every other 70s vocalist still around. I saw him live countless times solo and with Sabbath from the first Ozzfest to the End Tour, he always sounded like Ozzy to me. I've heard way worse in some of the Randy Rhodes era bootlegs than he did 20+ years later when I saw him.

@@dukeofthedance8062 of course it's great we get to hear the scratch lyrics all these years later, but all he's saying is that it's good they ultimately changed the lyrics to reflect a much more unique subject than pollution, something Sabbath had already tackled.

"Under the Sun" sounds so amazing here! Nimbler and more powerful than the sludgier "official" version.
I just bought the 5 LP version of this and the "Paranoid" 5 LP version..Both are so awesome. One of the coolest things on this boxset are the alternate versions with Ozzy's other inprovised lyrics and the talking in between too. Of course the real album that comes with remastered on vinyl sound incredible too as always. The live double album on here is killer too. This little taste should influence you to buy it...This is incredible. This box set has a killer hardcover book and massive 4 foot poster too, so does the "Paranoid",super deluxe..
I think I like this version of Supernaut like 50 times better than the one we all know. Maybe just because I've heard the previously released one so many times. Whatever, this one is badass.
I've always liked this kind of stuff because it sounds more natural and raw. When I was younger one of my friends got sent the demo version of Jimmy Eat World's Bleed American album and it was ridiculously good. The released album they did was waaaay over produced and kind of meh..

Master of Reality > Volume 4< Paranoid> Black Sabbath 1> Sabotage> Sabbath Bloody Sabbath>Technical Ecstasy>Never say die. In my humble opinion.
Ozzy used to just sing whatever over the music to get the vocal melody down, then Geezer would write the lyrics that would end up on the final version. Ozzy's melodies were just as integral to Sabbath as Tony's riffs and I don't think he got enough credit for it.

I played the Pop Giants Vol. 9 - Collection thousands of times during the 70's, and during the 80's: Black Sabbath, Paranoid, Master Of Reality, Volume 4, Sabbath Bloody Sabbath. Wondeful!!!!!!!!! I bought all albums with Ozzy, Dio in vynil, then in CD. I have most of them in vynil and CD, and saw the band live with Ronnie James Dio on vocals in 1992. Great memories!!!

Bill Ward hated playing drums for Cornucopia. He had a hard time with the off beat and would mess up alot. Bill said he thought he was going to get canned because Tony and Geezer were getting pissed at him during the recording session.lol

Damn, the "clean" solo of Wheels of Confusion! Love the original, but it feels a little convoluted, with two different solos played at the same time.
Great classics reinterpreted. I would love to see a super deluxe for their classic debut. Awesome jams in their formative years, and want to hear their long lost song "A song for Jim".
Definetly! Hopefully they realize that the fans love this kind of Demo takes. So we might get lucky with other album Demos in the future

Wow, this mix actually sounds better than the original album. If there is one thing I hold against Sabbath, is that the production and mixing was really poor. On the original Vol 4 there's a noticeable difference to Snowblind compared to the rest of the album, it sounds way better. Snowblind is almsot the only song you can actually hear what Bill Ward is playing.

Absolutely agree. Under The Sun wouldve sounded much better if it was mixed like Into The Void. The mids is completely scooped out, and you can barely hear the kick drum. Drums are super thin.
And the guitar is much more gnarly here
To me Supernaut is their best on Vol4
now that you mention it, I do hear the loss of detail when I go back. Someone else here mentioned scooping; makes sense to me. However, that is the sound of the record, my joy in hearing more of the kit and and the depth and space of the ensemble notwithstanding. Do I wish they had issued the original with the same production values as this? Yes. Would I cease to listen to the original mix if they remixed it next week? Hard to say; probably not.

Tomei ontem uma porção do cha de anteontem que sobrou porque seria forte demais até pra mim que já tô familiarizado com a força e agora 9da manhã com o sol escuto essa obra prima imortal da verdadeira arte desse planeta e potencializado pela pisilosina minha alma flutuou... foi oque faltava nessa noite que já virou dia pra concluir o projeto da essência da qual faço parte de transformar de vez a ficção que parece ficção mas que na verdade é a mais pura realidade e sendo assim declaro sem qualquer margem de dúvida que somos a própria fonte do multiversso em expansão e qualquer tipo de sofrimento é apenas uma simples variação do amor gerando entretenimento pra crianças que somos com apenas 4milhões de anos na fase humana e existindo no atual projeto de nossas próprias essências a apenas 1trilhão e 500bilhões de anos. Sendo assim o volume 4 é uma obra prima. Valeu Carlos. Wheels of confusion sounds better than the original. Ozzy’s raw voice in this one its super amazing. Btw, this version is faster than the original. Bill is killing the kit! Supernaut sounds cool too... not too fast like the original, with alt. lyrics, and different arrangements and different riff and ending. Ozzy’s voice sounds different in “changes”, very funny with alt. lyrics. Snowblind outtake its almost similar the gen, Sabbath played this same version during the end of master of reality tour with alt. lyrics too, no solo at all. Laguna sunrise have different arrangements too, Iommi talks with the producer for a while. He shows here what a versatile axeman he is. And the last one, Under the sun. This version sounds more doomy and heavy than the original. Very fast and powerfull drums, sounds heavier as Slayer in their first days!!!! Amazing disc! Thanks for share buddy!! You’ve made my day!

Wheels Of Confusion - On disc 3 (i have already posted on my channel) this song is present in lot of takes. I think "take 4" is my favorite one. Raw voice, Bill a little bit more agressive and louder.
Under The Sun - I loved this version. It seems that it was recorded in another session. I'm gonna try to gather the vocals from the original and add it into this instrumental version, then i post here on my channel :)

How many other bands reworked lyrics like Sabbath? Quite a creative process they had to produce the final product.
I think what's going on here is Ozzy just blabs out whatever and it doesn't matter because he's just searching for a melody to go along with the song. After the melody is down someone (in this case Geezer) comes along and writes actual lyrics to fit the melody.
When I was young some well respected person from the underground punk scene came and watch our band practice and told us about this and joked around about reading shampoo bottles or something funny like that to come up with a melody / rhythm. After we were done I was jamming out some sabbath by myself and one of the guys in our band told me to stop (thinking I would offend the guy) so I stopped .. and the punk dude told me to keep going cause he was also a huge sabbath fan.
Being young was cool, now I'm just old and worthless. Go me!!
