The riff of all the riffs.
+pariskotsaros Man, is this heavy as hell. This, is where Heavy Metal was founded. Black Sabbath and Tony Iommi.
+pariskotsaros John Lennon
Paul McCartney
Ozzy
Mick Jagger
Elton John?
Am I right?
+yu stu None of those, except Ozzy, played metal.
+yu stu troll?
Only one Beatles tune, would have promoted this type of riff. It too, has the classical movement and the ascending and descending guitar riffs doubled by the bass line and, part of that tune by the Beatles, could have possibly been an influence in Into The Void. The tune is called She's So Heavy. While, obviously, that tune is in A 440Hz, and running VOX AC30s, the riff in that tune, is quite similar to this riff here. And, being it that Ozzy was a huge Beatles nut as well as Iommi, I would not doubt that tune, may have spawned some ideas.
But, this tune, when tuned down to C# like they do, and using very light gauge strings, he gets a monster big ass tone just out of one note lines. He doesn't even wail hard on the strings but somehow, manages to get those Laney amps of his to pump out a massive tone like this here. It's just massive. One note lines, no 5ths intervals, just one note, big honkin sound. I love him for that sound and the riffs he comes up with. I'm not into his lead playing but, as a whole package deal, I love the guy and Black Sabbath with Ozzy's voice singing those melody lines.
2:25 Professor Iommi casually playing the heaviest riff ever devised and pushing his glasses back onto his nose like an accountant evaluating a tax return...
Fekin great post Jared.
Ha!!! You saw it too!!! He don't have to try to be cool, the riffs do that.
And, as heavy as it is, it's a guitar, not a bass
@@RabidWolf1966 a two step tuned down guitar and bass... That's what gives the bass that DOOM sound
Hahahaha I saw that thought the same thing
The way Tony walked slowly in the beginning while playing the riff was badass
Bro holy shit I read your comment and it happened right as I looked back. Toni Iommi is such a badass
absolutely
Well who wouldn’t be feeling like it knowing you wrote such one of the bad ass riffs of all time
Walking like he owns the world
He is the Riffmaster 🤘🔥
Other metal guitarists make all kinds of faces to look mean. Tony just casually walking around on stage is more badass than all of them combined.
he's the reason they play metal. ofc he's naturally a badass
And he was hard as fucking nails in his younger days......and probably still is! The fact he did 3 different martial arts during the mid 60s. And Ozzy said in his autobiography that Toni got him and the band out of a few scrapes over the years. Once with a massive skinhead. And once or twice with several other guys. Don't underestimate the medium sized wirey fearless confident hippie.......he'll kill you! 😂
Makes me love Tony even more.
He lets the guitar to do all the intimidating - he’s just a “puppeteer”

Its so fun having that rumble and clack and imitating that hand. His tone makes the hair on my neck stand up.

No. Tony is the hand of doom.
Geezer Butler is a genius. Apart from the heavy riff, you could notice how the bass works at the start. LONG LIVE SABBATH!

Spot on, man. There's just something about the guy, and of course the way he plays guitar!
he wil be missed!
Fuck you, you made me think he died
HE IS A GOD
Black Sabbath were WAY ahead of their time. This song came out in 1971. Let that sink in. Metal was nonexistant before them, and these guys in just one year made three 10/10 albums and created the blueprints for all Metal: Heavy, Doom, Stoner, Sludge, Thrash, Black (as far as thematology goes). Every single metal band can trace its roots back into Sabbath. It's just kind of mind numbing to think what a tremendous impact these guys had on the course of Music history.
And the most interesting fact about everything you said is that they did it all while high ...
Seen them in cinci in 75, THE BEST FUCKIN BAND HANDS DOWN, I'm 58
Head Crusher Well they started smoking pot between the debut and Paranoid, and even wrote a song about it for Master of Reality. It wasn’t until they went to L.A. to record Vol. 4 that they got into the coke, which really became a problem.
It blows my mind every time I think about the fact that, unlike most genres, metal can actually be traced back to one band. Personally I don't think there's been a heavier riff than the first one in into the void. There are faster, and lower tuned songs and songs with screaming or whatever. But this truly is the heaviest, dirtiest riff ever.
That Guy m
That riff use to send me deep into interstellar space back in my tripping days. Still sounds great 50 years later.
Sabbath is the best band by far when you’re high IMO.
My intro to Sennhieser headphones. Red Dragon and Master of Reality
to me it sounds even better now and Iommi plays it exactly as he recorded it.
@@RandyRhoadsRules3 HONESTLY. I listened to so much Floyd when I get baked but something about Sabbath when ur stoned..... its not like any other metal band let alone any psych-riffs

Tony Iommi is definitely the master of heavy metal guitar. One of the best songs Black Sabbath has done.
Black Sabbath Feb 13 1970, released date of their first album, everyone was in shock, no one ever heard this heavy type of music .Sabbath the Gods of heavy metal type music, or whatever you want to call it. Their first album is a Masterpiece made 52 years ago.

Then again this still is one of the heaviest songs known to mankind.

The bass in this song is freaking amazing.
My god Tony's feel on the guitar is almost unmatched. So heavy and yet so bluesy and tasty 💙
His bending of the string adds an extra oomph. Makes the lows fucking sing. Just started this song in my shit garage band. That sound is unique. I'd say eyehategod has some riffs that take a lot of inspiration from this.
Sabbath as well as all the bands coming out of England in the late 60s were Blues based bands, they just turned up the volume, with Sabbath they turned it way up and tuned way down to created the heaviest sound.

Does Black Sabbath receive royalties from every heavy band that came out since 1970? ... Because they should. Holy mother of all riffs ...
Great group
The vibrato on the verse riff is otherworldly
They started as the "Polka tolk blues" band, then "Earth" in 1968 before switching to Black Sabbath in late 68 or 69. But, Either way. It's mind blowing to me the impact these 4 blokes have had on the world and music history. Absolutely mad. 🤘
They got scammed on the first 3 albums by their manager.

Ozzy Is a very talented Singer. for sure
Love ozzys singing and songs.
He's way more with than you think watch his travel show with Jack.
After all the booze and drugs he did in his life, the real question is: how the hell is he able to remember all those lyrics?
There is no other Black Sabbath that the one with Ozzy. I watch a lot of these videos. Even 45 years ago I was an Ozzy fan. I don't just jump on the bus. But Ozzy and Plant have always, always, always been my favorite. And for good reasons. They both when they were younger they were as strong as a country horse when it came to singing. Ozzy's peek was Sabbath Bloody Sabbath and Sabbatoge . And then I was still a teenager , Blizzard of Oz hit the scene. Knew then I picked the right guy. FUCKING SABBATH RULES
So so good.. the fact that 3/4 of the original Sabbath line up was still knocking it out of the park only a few years ago makes the 16 year old me really really fucking happy..
I’m 69 years old now. I saw Black Sabbath in concert back in 1972 in New Orleans when I was a twenty year old puppy. Their music sounds like thunder. In my opinion they are the birth of heavy metal and the undisputed kings of heavy metal.

The father of Heavy Metal 🤘
Tony Iommi is the single most important person in the history of metal. An absolute genius. No disrespect to Ozzy, Geezer and Bill who were all of course instrumental in creating metal as well.
Toni had the unique sound but Geezer wrote almost all the songs and lyrics, he really created the dark ambiance that is Sabbath. Geezer showed the world the beauty that is in the darkness that is all around us.
@@YoCal_ I think the ambiance is created by the music regardless of the lyrics but I would agree Geezer is the second most important figure in metal history after Iommi.
@@YoCal_ not to mention geezer absolutely kicks ass on bass as does ward on drums. not to dis iommi either but the others were just as important
@@YoCal_ Toni was the main catalyst for the band. He would come up with the riffs and then the other members of the band would expand upon that.

It wouldn't be able to fly!
@@calebb7656 The riff would blow out the flames in the engines like a candle. The bass would cause bubbles in the fuel lines and suffocate any engine that survived Tony's riff. Finally Ozzy would overload the electronic system when he starts screaming and with it the flight computer and down they go. Bill wouldn't be on the plane because he's terrified of flying. He once drove through all of Australia, refusing to fly on a tour. Geezer joined him while Tony hid a Gorgonzola cheese in the AC.
