Just completed the break-in period and so far the unit is operating perfectly ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxOTeIs0vv4_9B5hsmnLsk9r930uDQLu_Y . I was amazed by just how quiet this little guy is. I kept having to walk down the driveway to the generator to make sure it was still running. In fact, the most annoying noise coming from the set-up is a high-pitched chirping coming from the pressure regulator on the propane line. I suppose it's possible my other propane-powered generator's pressure regulator is making the same noise, but the generator itself is so loud I've never noticed it. Build quality so far is excellent. My only nit is the service panel is a little tricky to remove. I feel like I might break off one of the plastic tabs when bending it back. I probably just need to work out the technique, so will not hold it against Champion.Next week I intend to fully load the unit to charge a large battery pack and will update this review if there's any problem (3000W continuous load vs a rated 3100W capacity while using propane). Absent any trouble there, I'm 100% pleased with this purchase.
Note that initially it looked as if the way this is set up you had an open port venting gasoline from the fuel tanks outlet when the hose is removed unless the male port also has a check valve inside it which is not specifically stated on the Amazon link. On edit I reviewed the Atwood connect in the Amazon link and it does have an automatic shutoff on both sides of the fitting so even though its plastic it may be a similar in design compared to the one that came with the kit which also appears to have a fuel shutoff on both halves of its gas cap connection.
Of course this only works well if your generator has an actual fuel pump and not just a gravity feed system with an automatic fuel valve unless you raise the tank higher than the generator so it can siphon feed. Any leaks in the fuel cap seal or fuel lines of course will prevent the system from working properly.
That said the safer solution is to put a tee in the fuel line inside the generator between the fuel shutoff and carburetor plus if there is no fuel pump add a vacuum operated pump and use a standard marine outboard motor fuel connect with its more secure automatic fuel shutoff and secondary strain relief post mounting through the casing of the generator. It would also be a very good idea to add a fuel filter and primer bulb to the fuel line.
On the Teflon tape you do need to only use those rated for fuel systems and not just generic water system products that are not rated for use with gasoline, kerosene, diesel, etc.
Best!
Now, that was awesome and looked kinda easy..Thanks for sharing your video. Very self explanatory.
Thanks for sharing, This was very helpful information 👍
Happy with mine.
Good review thank you Sir
Awesome demonstration 👍👍
Great review there dude but definitely sound like Patton Oswalt.
Ed , I have see a propane conversion for the Honda online, cleaner, easy to start.
Hi Ed where do i get a propane conversion, i.m in australia.
Unfortunately, I have to say that this doesn’t actually work, and I have yet to see 1 video that actually shows the siphoning of fuel occur. Take note of every video claiming this works: there will always be a setup shot (before), then a shot claiming that it worked (after). The amount of air drawn into the tank through the stock fuel cap is very very little. There is not enough suction created to draw fuel out of one tank and into the generator. Gravity feed, or added vacuum pump, however, will work.
You must not understand physics🤦🏼🤣😂
Thank you for the video.. Please post link to the quick disconnect you installed on the tank
Updates please
Links added, Thanks
Just a comment: I watched a few videos on this, and was Advised on NOT using the Teflon Tape. It deteriorates from the Gasoline itself, and over time Gums up , causing all kinds of problems.
There is special tape for gasoline or you can use Loc-Title formulated for gas and oil.
I’ve had mine for two years and it has worked flawlessly.
Hey. My doesn’t suck. The gen builds pressure and it doesn’t let fuel to go to the tank. Elevated. Any idea how to make it work?
@@baikerboy2010 is your tank vented?
@@SoloHiker1 yes
I have not bought a Berg system. But I have not had much luck with other gas cap style siphoning systems for my Honda 2000 I generator. I have had much better luck with the gas cap that I have bought for my 3000 I handy generator by Honda. But there is no fuel pump in the 3000 I handy and you have to have the extended run gas tank above the generator . The problem usually lies in the Seal of the gas cap where it meets the generator. First the seal that they give you for the gas cap is usually substandard. It usually does not hold up very well with gasoline. You're also relying on human error and that is always a problem. These systems seem to work a little better in extreme temperature or just very cold because everything constricts and seals become tighter, and you don't have as much of a problem with reactive gas and pressure buildup. I have bought a lot of plastic attwood connectors. They don't last very long. But they do not take very long to swap out and they are usually the problem if you have a air leak. If you really need a system that works I want you to talk to Paul at Panellas power products. He has helped me build a system with Yamaha parts that works pretty much foolproof. Bypassing the fuel tank in the generator is the way to go!
Is this on aEU 2.0 or 2.2 Reason I ask is the carberation has been changed and there can be problems with the fuel pressure causing gas to bypass the carberator and end up in the oil resavoir
Wouldn't keep that fuel line in a bag. It's best to let the gas that's on or in the lines to dry up. The reason is so you don't get any build up in the lines. Gas needs to bleed out.
Can you tell me the model number of the Berg kit please? Is it the one for the eu2000i? Are they the same?
Thanks for your help
HND1.2CS is the one I got because I was supplying my own tank. It is designated for the EU1000i/EU2000i
Great thorough review. Can you tell me how many gallons the external tank held and the Honda and total run hours you got?
I added a 6 Gal tank, and I remember getting a full day (~7 hours) of use with my AC running on the RV.
How do you get the siphoning process started or is small Honda tank creating the line suction?
As long as your seal is good on the cap, the Honda generator will create the suction with its fuel pump.
Are you sure that the red cap is suitable for your generator? You have to choke extremely to mount the cap on the thread of the generator and then remove it again. Is the thread on the tank still OK, or is there a new thread in it now?
Thread is fine on my tank. The important part is the seal, without it, the suction will not occur to create the syphon.
What's been up man?
Anyone had luck “wiggling” the quick disconnect barb into the very small hose as the OP suggests? I tried and I just don’t see it happening unless someone did something else that worked.
Converted ours to LP. Will run on eco-mode for years on a 20# tank.
Well, maybe not quite that long.
Work for Yamaha iPower 2300?
hi. when can i get one in australia, also the propane conversion too. thanks
All parts are available from Amazon, look in description of video
@@EdwardCzajka are you able to take a photo of how the regularator screws into the bbq propane bottle and what both parts look like. Please.
I’m having difficulty getting the 1/4” ID fuel hose on the 5/16” quick disconnect barb. Any suggestions
I remember I had to wiggle it quite a bit to stretch the tube to get it on there
Can you use air line quick connects at lesser of a price?
Will the components deteriorate in gasoline? I'm using these parts to reduce the fuel loss when disconnecting, and subsequent fumes.
@@EdwardCzajka Now that I seen what you use, planning on adding to my set up. Thanks for posting.
Use any boat fuel style quick disconnect for a lot less, they also auto shut off the flow and are suitable for fuel.
Isn't the generator supposed to last for the duration of one rank of gas? This could extend the hours of use of the fan causing damage. I understand that every few hours it should be turned off
By that logic, everything we do can cause damage. We don't have stuff like this to not be used and always look pretty. Giving a generator a 5 min break after 2 hours of work is not going to do anything.
When I was Active duty, I had a generator repair section. Im not an authority. They all said it was better to run a genny 24x7 at at least 50% load, higher is better. Just shut down to change oil as scheduled and routine maintenance.
@@SoloHiker1 Logical, agreed.
Just purchased my for my generator. But my generator has a vent cap. My generator is a Generac 2200i. So when I hooked up berg cap and started to run. The generator only ran a few minutes. Because cap needs to be vented. How can I fix this issues? Or what I’m I doing wrong. Thank you
The vent should be only on the aux tank, and it will siphon from the tank to the generator. If the generator cap has a leak or an air vent, the siphon wont happen
Thanks for the reply. So do I have to add a vent on the new tank they sent me? And why wouldn’t it come with a vent already on the tank?
Your Aux tank should have a vent already@@raff9938
@@EdwardCzajka It’s a Berg brand setup. For $184 after shipping you think it would have a vent or mention it in the instructions or video they have. I guess I will add one. Thanks for all your help

Mine doesn’t work
Why even take the B.E.R.G. caps off when you're stowing and transporting. The Honda will run perfectly fine in solo mode with the B.E.R.G. caps. By removing them you're simply putting more wear and tear on the threads for the generator and the gasket. Leave the caps in place. I've done it for 5 years on mine. Only time they come off is to clean the fuel filter or drain the gas.
i have see that a person can buy and convert your honda GEN to clean propane.
True, but you also loose a bit of HP from running propane. This would make running the AC more difficult, and make getting fuel in the middle of the night a challenge. When I am done on a trip, I can't load the remainder of the propane into my tow vehicle.
New to this type of setup. How does the fuel flow without a pump?? Obviously it seems to be syphoning but how does it start the syphon without something like a fuel line pump bulb attached??
Will this work with generac 2200?
@@williamhunt828 The Honda has a fuel pump inside the Generator.
Dang it I thought this was the real life Peter Griffin. I still have you a thumbs up even though you didn't make me laugh.
Cant hear you. Don't waste peoples time...
