Shows the true benefit of having a boat that can reach and maintain really good average speeds…13-14 days SO much better than the 25-30 days which are the norm for most other heavier and slower boats, great video 👍😄
We didn’t expect the difference to be this big, Saba 50 24 days, Leopard 48 31 days but different people different sailing modes as well so always difficult to compare. With our L52S it probably would have taken us 17 days
Great video! Thanks for sharing your experience. Well done. What a great team you all make. 👏 I was half expecting to see Vitia when you had the drone up so high. Amazing shots. I really enjoy watching Thomas learn from his experience with you. Lucky him and you two.
Ditto . Thank you for making such splendid videos of your journeys. I did this on a FP Cat 25 years ago and my memories and my home movies have all faded. Wonderful to revisit with you. Cheers Mark/Alchemy
Just fantastic to watch! You are such an inspiration as you never gave up after the collision in Aruba. Your drone shots are gorgeous. Hope you continue to enjoy the rest of your cruise through the Pacific.
Wonderful - you guys are great and I really enjoy such a long passage in one clip; also an all round vid: sails, speed, conditions and the social part - well done!!
WOW!!! what an amazing vlog, congratulations to captain and crew on what seemed an absolutely beautifully filmed sail from start to finish, please educate us all on your camera equipment and techniques.Faie winds
For sure they have increased their target market significantly as there is a superb combination of performance AND luxury. And more headroom is very welcome for the taller ones amongst us
Long time subscriber here, and I’m amazed again at the quality of your videos and the scale of your adventurers. You should have many 000’s more subscribers. Keep up the good flow of excellent videos.,
I’ve been meaning to leave a comment for ages - really love your videos. As a monohull sailor I’ve only ever been on a catamaran once - but you’ve really opened my eyes to what a cat is capable of - incredibly impressive. Keep the videos coming - the commentary and pictures are wonderful.
We’ve been sailing monohulls until 7 years ago (and we still do on our Rival 34 from 1979) but for full time travelling and living like we did last 7 years the choice seems pretty easy.
Congratulations to you..i am pleased that our famous calvados and sparkling apple juice from courmenil accompany so beautiful adventures..and hope that anne will agree to sail up to you across the world to refill your cellar ! Cheers from optimist..in spain.
What a fantastic boat. And thought you might have lost the drone to another galaxy for a while! But looked like a really fun sail across the Pacific. Greetings from South Africa.
Thanks for content, i like this catamaran. My short list catamaran: - Outremer - ORC Trimaran - Dragonfly 40 - Rapido 60 Your ocean crossing looks very dynamic, that's exactly what I want, I don't want to be sailing at 19th century speeds. Good luck!
Gr Mark vd Kuil
Two or more boats pointing in the same direction and the race is on, I suppose it's always going to be that way. Sounds exhausting keeping up that regiment, cooler heads prevailed and you settled into a nice rhythm. Riders on the Storm, techno-remix, nice. Your music is consistently appropriate for your videos, you must spend a lot of time listening to music to be able to come up with so much diversity(?)
The suggestions you get on Spotify based on a certain playlist help. We’ve made a “Cat Greatcircle Video” playlist there. I have a Musicbed subscription to try out license free music but that gets boring really quickly
Wow, Marijke you're so talented. You can sing, play the guitar, and bake. Mark you have the BEST WIFE IN THE 🌎 . I'm loving your sailing videos!!💥💥💥. Be safe out there and looking forward to the next video.
New subscriber here I would check out your video and I like it so far beautiful boat you have looks pretty fast. Anyway thanks for sharing your passage I will subscribe to your channel now God bless you watching from California USA
How come you don't ever pull the windward daggar board up? Should give a nice little speed build. The leeward one can come up a bit too when running reaching?
@@CatGreatcircle ohh that's smart thinking. We race a lot on a rapid tri. Sometimes we lift the board to de power as it's as good as putting a reef in. Love your work. Thanks for the reply Take care from New Zealand!
You guys own an incredible machine. The space in the galley is enormous. How is the electrical system doing? Is the solar sufficient to keep the batteries charged, or do you need to use the generator once in a while?
Great video, you talked about noise and not being able to get good sleep when the boat speed was faster....was the noise on the Lagoon as much when open sailing?.....I know it would not be as fast..... just comparing to decide where that sweet spot will be for us between speed and comfort......we love the comfort of the L55 and hope it can be a serious contender even if it would be 4-5 days slower
The Lagoons we had made a lot more noise at their cruising speed. It’s more the interior that seems to make the noise or the friction between interior and hull. The second factor is the noise of the waves slamming against the hull. We call that the man with the hammer, and he’s much more active on boats with a lower bridgedeck. We haven’t made big crossings on a L55 but the bridgedeck seems even lower than on our L52. Sitting on the nose even on the short trip the waves were even bouncing back all the way from the bridgedeck to the chair on the nose. But the L55 has other pros where it’s comfort is hard to beat as for instance its seating areas and the additional space…
@@CatGreatcircle Wish I could find someone that's actually done a crossing on a L55......they are so new is probably why I'm not finding more....a broker in Ft Lauderdale sailed one from Annapolis to Ft Lauderdale with fairly rough seas around Cape Hatteras and said it was very nice and not noisy....he said Lagoon had added a lot of reinforcement to the latest builds....we are supposed to go and see and sail that boat....sure it will just be a short sail though.....thanks for your help.....hope to see you on the water some day
@@CatGreatcircle Why can't they make a L55 with dagger boards, carbon mast, carbon longeron and carbon reinforcement throughout the boat....that way we could have better speed, better upwind sail and comfort all in one package.....
Not sure whether this is a great idea with still over 30 metric tons. Our answer to a similar wish list was the Outremer 55 but who knows what the future might bring. What’s the time frame your looking at?
I wonder if those fishing boats where after squid, seemed like way too much light for just normal fishing. Must be such an exciting time to see land after so many days at sea.. one day I will experience it :D Cheers for the vid :D

We don’t miss a Wingaker at all. The only thing we’re not sure off is a sail like we had on the L52S, something between our current Code 0 and the Code D / downwind gennaker. Not sure if we would need the gennaker in that case

Great one🤟
How did you lose a batten? Also, great to see the numbers on the boat .. wind speeds and SOG and so on along with sail plan.
Probably the locking pin went out and the closing cap slowly unscrewed. When it was sticking out we were just not fast enough to get the sails down

Lieve menschen, wat gaat die boot hard! :-)
We moeten ook nog een stukje..
How come you don't ever pull the windward daggar board up?

We leave them partly down most of the time even downwind to protect the rudders for debri in the water
@@CatGreatcircle ohh that's smart thinking. We race a lot on a rapid tri. Sometimes we lift the board to de power as it's as good as putting a reef in.

Take care from New Zealand!
You guys own an incredible machine. The space in the galley is enormous. How is the electrical system doing? Is the solar sufficient to keep the batteries charged, or do you need to use the generator once in a while?
The solar is sufficient on most anchorages but during sailing the sails cover too much of them on our current trajectory
Any idea as to how many sail changes you made in 13 days?
A lot more than on the Atlantic (1) that’s for sure. We used all sails this time, more fun than just following the symmetrical spi for 8 days…
Subscribed!
Are the solar panels enough to charge things? Any wind energy?
On anchor they normally are, when sailing we often need an additional source of power because we consume more and the sails cover part of the solar
It would be interesting to know if the boat sails much differently with the shorter bowsprit.
Not a big difference
Look out Mark, Thomas is going to be Chief Officer soon.....
He already acts like he’s the captain so that wouldn’t surprise me a bit

Nice sailing and excellent speed!
What do you have as antifouling?
How has it been working?
Outremer applies Nautix A88, but Seajet 039 should do the job as well
What type of flooring do you have on the back of the boat? (transom etc) Is it cork? does it get hot? do you like it as a material?
It’s Esthec and it gets REALLY hot on the transoms, apart from that we like the material
