OH, MY Goodness !!!! I really loved this video, and it was very special to me too. Watching this video, has sent me back in time, and brought back soooo many memories of my time spent there on Skyline Drive. The many overlooks are truely breathtaking ! My dad is from that area, and on many of the overlooks, he would point out places that were family farms, and different places he knew, where folks lived. My dad was at the opening of Skyline Drive, in 1934. I remember him saying he come over with his family. I have camped there many many times, from when I was just 5 years old, up to when I was about 55 . We've traveled it many times going to visit my dads family.(twice a month we would go see them) and if we didnt take 211, we would go the mountain way. I Love the many gift shops along the drive too! (I love the hat you picked out Lou) I know my parents bought me at least a dozen of the little stuffed black bears, that used to come with their own little leash on them. lol I dont know if they sell those anymore or not. I enjoyed many picncs at Pinnacles! Big Meadows used to have a stable, where you could horeback ride on the trails. Always wanted to do that, and finally I got to when I was older, but it was at the Skyland stables . Ive had many encounter's with...bears also, in my years camping there. I guess that is why I dont sleep in a tent anymore!! Yes I agree, all the tress, Mt Laurel and wild flowers are so pretty. The big tree's that are dead, are, I believe, whats left of the Chesnut trees, that died out because of a blight that hit the area in the early 20th century. Some of the trees are evergreens killed by aphid like bug, that sucks the tree's sap out of it. There are many Huckleberry bushes to pick berries off of in early summer too. You can also find, Teaberry bushes. Those are used to make Teaberry Gum! Big Meadows lodge is very nice, I have stayed there before. A part of the Appalachian trail runs along the outside edge of the Big Meadows campground. There used to be a bear den, just below it, in a group of huge rocks. I have a friend, who is planning on hiking the entire Appalachian trail in Feb.2023 ! I wish him all the best, I know I wouldnt be able to do that ! lol Loft mountain is more of a rustic campground than what Big Meadows is like. Well, I really enjoyed this video more than I can ever express !! When I heard you had done this, I could hardly wait to watch it !!! I need to go back soon!! I loved Melody's reaction to you saying that Black Rock Summit trail was... fairly, flat !!! 😂😂🤣too funny! You all do a fabulous job on these video's, I truly love watching them !!
