    I have an unconventional approach to choosing my B2601. My only decision was which size was best for the woods. This is my third Kubota tractor to add to the equipment shed and I needed one small enough to clean up the wooded areas of the farm. Most John Deere dealers in Eastern America have been purchased by Ag Pro which means high prices and expensive, bad, slow, service. At least that's been my experience. I still have a JD Gator and a Z920 mower but it'll all be orange in a few years. I'm 57 years old and I like what works for me, Kubota tractors and Toyota trucks. I've never had a bad one of either from 1992 till today.

      Funny how we develop brand loyalties but I get it. I am looking at a side by side and haven't really looked at anything other than a Kubota seriously. I am Ford guy rather than Toyota but similar logic, I like that I can get parts for it and work on it myself. I have put at least 200K miles on every Ford truck I have owned and never felt like I was pushing my luck.

      @@tedcalouri2694 I'd say if Ford trucks serves you well you'd be foolish to change. I've spent a lot of my life searching for good brands and when I find one I stick with it until it changes. If ya don't do that you really haven't learned anything.

    Outstanding video. I've had my 2601 now for a bit over 2 years and love it. Like you, I had a checklist and examined my needs. It finally came down to 2 dealers and the one who was more interested and returned my calls to answer my questions got the sale.

    For me the choice was pretty simple as the previous owner of the property threw in their B2650. Having said that it is a solid tractor for the needs of my property. Big enough that I can keep the brush from encroaching on my pastures effectively and small enough that I can maneuver in my wooded area. The dealer seems pretty easy to deal with and is only a 20 minute drive away. I feel pretty lucky!

      Good morning Rocky. Thanks for the kind words and I am glad if it helped you a bit. Trying to figure out what to buy was tougher than I thought, especially being a first time tractor owner. It literally took me about 3-4 months of researching, comparing and visiting different dealers. Videos #82, #92 and #122 may also help. There are several good manufacturers to choose from which makes it harder. LOL. And my B2601 is not the right choice for everyone but it serves my small little property here just fine. Hang in there, and if there are any questions I can help with, I will do my best to answer (remembering of course, that I am certainly no expert on tractors). Good luck and let me know how it is going from time to time. Cheers!

    I just ordered a B2601 a couple of days ago... First time tractor owner. Was also looking at the LX2650, but decided on the B2601 mostly because of size.
    Very excited to get it and doing some work with it.

    • @GPOutdoors
      @GPOutdoors  3 роки тому +1

      Good morning and congratulations! Very exciting time for you. It is a great little workhorse - I loved that tractor. If I may offer the following - please make sure you have the dealer load the rear tires with Rimguard (beet juice) and if you live in a cold climate (winter) then have them install a block heater - for sure. Most critically important is to buy something heavy to keep on the back of the tractor - if you have a gravel driveway, a box blade works great. The 2601 only weighs 1671 lbs however it can lift comfortably about 1100 lbs plus it is engineered to be a very narrow tractor so you need "ballast" ( weight) at all times on the rear of the tractor for stability, especially when lifting loads or doing work in general. ( you can also buy a Ballast Box from Kubota if you prefer to just have the Ballast Box). From experience and too many close calls (flipping the tractor over) when I first got it, you need to get some form of ballast) . :)) I hope that helps! Best of luck!

      Thank you for your help and reply. I did order a grader box and quick hitch with it and will probably keep it on most of the time. I have family members with older B model Kubotas is a big reason I decided to buy one over the other brands available, and they are just good tractors. I will definitely ask my dealer about the wet wheels.
      Thanks again..

    I purchased a 2301 last spring. Totally impressed.
    I would recommend a third valve when purchasing. I installed my own from the dealership. I wasn’t difficult, but not everyone wants to get into machines that far. Second, visit the dealership’s shop. If you need a flashlight to see, the floor is a mess, and guys are smoking and joking, stay clear no matter what the deal.

    Well said. In early 2000's had property with couple of acres, mowing, landscape maintenance and snow removal. After 25 years of John Deere went BX 1800 Kubota with Front Loader, mid mower. Added after market tooth bar for loader for some digging projects. I did buy full metal cab later. Getting Old, got tired of being cold and wind. What a difference winter time operations became. Did my required maintenance . Never had any issues with Kubota over the many hours of use. Dealer bought it back at very fair price because of condition I kept it in. I rated it as good as any John Deere that I owned. Yours is very nice. Save up the money and get the cab, well worth it. Retired, downsized to Condo. Miss the Kubota on occasions, but it is nice to travel.

Also I'm looking for a suggestion and your opinion on what to give the tractor some ballast in the back end. Ballast box or grading box, what would be more useful and at the same time give me the weight I need in the back.

    I noticed that you live in a rural area so you got the right configuration for your tractor and the snow blower attachment you have on the front is right for your area so you can get to your house and out. The two tractors I have is good for what I am using them for. I have a John Deere 790 which I keep my bush hog connected to since I use it often. I also have a John Deere 3032E which I use with my other implements and currently have my .lawn rake on it. I live in the rural area of Arkansas and fortunately I live on flat land and use my tractors for clearing land where brushes aren't too large, and at first my older tractor ended up being used to mow my lawn since the mower I had at the time was broke down.

    • @GPOutdoors
      @GPOutdoors  6 років тому +1

      Hey good day Sidney. Thanks for the comment above. So far it works pretty well for me. It must be helpful to have a couple of tractors built for those different tasks. I don't know much about the 790 but I did look at the 3 series and they are awfully nice tractors as well. Hey if you have a few minutes, can you tell me what kind of things you use the rake for? I have seen them but not sure if it would be of any use on this property or not. Be great to hear how you use it. Thanks for watching and all the best!

    • @semco72057
      @semco72057 6 років тому

      The rake is good for cleaning up downed limbs, brush, and smaller trees on your property. I have not used mine for awhile, but keep it on the back of my tractor just in case I need it. The 790 tractor is nice, but with the clutch not sometimes going into reverse like it should I loveb the newest one and the 790 is good for bush hoging since I don't have to back up that often. The 3032E is good for getting around better so I keep the other attachments setup for use on it.

    That is a very informative video about new tractors. I was not aware of so many options and stuff to look for when buying a new tractor. I really think you made a good choice with the 2601 over the 2650 with reduced size and better handling in mind. Bigger is not always better. Few people understand this. Handling is why I got the Bolens to cover what the Case can't do well. Congratulations, this video got 26k+ view as of April 23rd. Your channel is picking up fast! After a couple years, do you feel that you bought the right tractor? Do you wish you had stepped up to the B2650?

    • @GPOutdoors
      @GPOutdoors  4 роки тому +4

      Good morning UWP. That's a great question. I find that the 2601 does most everything I need to do here but there have been a few times when it couldn't do what I needed, but I also realize that the 2650 also would not have been able to handle those few tasks either. I am 100% happy with the 2601 for my needs here, and at the time I bought it, the difference between both models didn't warrant the extra cost for me but if I had more money, certainly would have considered the extra capacity of the 2650. And of course, if I were looking for a cab , then the 2650 for sure. But as a few folks have mentioned, you should always buy as much power as you can afford ( generally). I was also looking for a tractor with a narrow profile for working in the woods so that also was a big consideration for me. So, all things equal, I would buy the 2601 again for sure. If I had more money, then the 2650. Sorry for the long answer but hope that helps a bit. Have a Merry Christmas!

    • @GPOutdoors
      @GPOutdoors  5 років тому +1

      Good morning and thanks so much Douglas. Great question - I have had a few folks ask the same thing. Not really, to be honest, I am pretty attentive to where I drive although I have thought about it a couple of times. My neighbour Guy said he is happy to make a few for me, if I wanted them, and I have seen some after market guards but the cost of them are kind of high and not worth the money, at least to me. I always have spare filters and fluids on hand so if I were to damage a filter I can change it out on site. I regularly check my fluids as you know and I regularly do a circle check on the tractor which includes looking under it and checking the filters, among other things. If they were reasonably priced, I would probably put them in cause it certainly wouldn't hurt to do it, but at this point it is not an important consideration for me. Thanks and have a great weekend!

    Bought a B2601 last fall. Debated buying the tractor for about 3 years. Picking a good dealer is extremely important. Was always told that you should buy the largest size tractor that you could afford, within reason. Once purchased, you'll most likely find other uses for the tractor than originally thought.

      Good morning James. I think that is a good rule of thumb. And very true that I keep finding other uses for it. At first, was a little concerned that maybe I would have needed the extra power but so far, the 2601 has done everything I have needed. Thanks for commenting - have a great weekend!

    I was surprised to hear you talk about budget considerations. This tractor costs as much as a small airplane and I have always thought of them as toys for the super wealthy. Perhaps they can make financial sense for those who use them professionally, providing services to other people, but not for guys like myself just wanting to maintain their few acres. Considering how many hours per year you use it and what you do with it, have you tried to calculate what it would cost you to hire professionals every time and how this would compare to investing in this machine?

    GP this comment is for another video you had but you were talking about the angle of your back blade for cutting love your videos but need to correct you on that it's just the opposite to what you said reason why I know my brother is a greater operator and I run heavy equipment for a living.. to make blade actually cutmore you would suck your top Link in towards you and for a more smoother finish without digging in top link out words for the angle

    • @GPOutdoors
      @GPOutdoors  3 роки тому

      Morning Benjy. Thanks very much for the help here. I have had a similar comment a while back but I think your equipment perhaps connects differently than mine here. The way this blade attaches to the 3 point, it works as I mentioned in the other video, and confirms it in the manual that came with the blade, (you can go on the Landpride website and open the manual for the RB1672 - page 16). The tractor has no down pressure on the 3 point hitch so the blade sits on the ground under its own weight. If I am grading in the summer, and I extend the upper control arm, it causes a more aggressive angle, or 'pitch', of the moldboard edge to the ground. If I begin to drive, the moldboard digs in and continues to dig in to the point it stops the tractor as it has dug so deep in the ground (I found out the hard way when I first got the blade - LOL). If I collapse the upper control arm all the way in, it causes the moldboard to pitch less aggressively such that it drags or scrapes the ground, so to speak. Thanks for the comment though, as I am still learning alot and always welcome advice and suggestions. Thanks again Benjy!

      Good morning and thanks very much Lawrence. Welcome! I believe I talked about a few attachments or implements such as the grapple( for grabbing logs, brush, rocks etc), a rear blade ( for clearing snow and also for gradin the driveway in the summer), a backhoe ( which is pretty expensive so great if you have a lot of projects where you need to dig alot but otherwise, pretty expensive if you aren't going to need it often), the ballast box - really important to have on hand to maintain weight on the back of the tractor) and a box blade - also great for grading the driveway. Hope that helps. Have a great week and thanks again for subscribing!

      Hey good evening Tom. You are most welcome. I am glad if it helped a little. I asked the same question when the dealer said they put Beet Juice in now. He said it's good to about -32 celsius and I have checked online resources which say the same. He said he only uses beet juice for everything and does a lot of construction and agriculture sales. It is also heavier than a few other solutions that are sometimes put in tires. We get pretty much the same weather as you do and we had about 1 week this winter which stayed at or below -30 ( worst day was -37 celsius) and I had no trouble at all. Hope that is helpful. 1. spray with RU and wait 5-8 days
    2 fertilize with 200-400 pounds per acre of urea (brassicas, turnips, winter rye, etc)
    2. disc and/or rototill after the 5-8 days (the ground will work up better after killing the vegetation))
    3. cultipack before seeding (this is to make sure you don't bury the seed too deep)

      Hey Buckets!     GP Outdoors -
    Why did you choose the rear finish mower instead of the mid mount mower

    • @GPOutdoors
      @GPOutdoors  6 років тому

      Good day Larry. Great question. I had a belly mower on a lawn tractor before getting the Kubota. The challenge I had with it was that I could not get close enough in and around and under all the trees and areas of the property where I could not drive the tractor in close enough so had a lot more trimming to do afterward. Also when mowing the sides of my driveway, I could not get in very close because the belly mower generally is only as wide as the width of the tractor whereas the finish mower extends out the side so I can get a little more mowed. Lastly, the belly mower does not "float" along the contours of the land as well as the finish mower - it has very little play or ability to float over undulations etc on my lawn. Those were the main reasons. I had thought about getting the belly mower because that way I could use the mid PTO for the mower and mount a spreader unit on the rear pto to drop grass seed or fertilizer etc at the same time but figured, for me, the finish mower was the right choice. Hope that helps. Cheers!

    • @GPOutdoors
      @GPOutdoors  5 років тому +1

      Good day Charles. Boy, I would love a cab but working so much in the forest in the spring, fall and summer, I can tell you I would most likely put a branch through the glass. LOL. And my dealer tells me it will cost about $1,000 CDN to replace one panel. I think at some point I might look at a cab that can be easily removed so in the winter, I can avoid the blowing snow and severe cold some days, etc but after all this time, and given the types of things I do with it, I still would not have chosen a tractor with a permanent cab. So, I think the decision has to be considered based on the types of things you wish to do with it- through all seasons. It's not that I couldn't maneuver through the forest with a cab, but just would have to be extra careful doing so. Hope that helps a little. Thanks and all the best!

    its a damn shame kubota refuses to build with an option for 2 pedals instead of insisting on building everything with the tredel pedal or i would have bought one instead of my 2025R deere. kubota is loosing sales and i really think that they just dont give a shit. kubota deserves to go under because they could not care less about what the customer wants. i have a screwed up back and neck and the tredle pedal was making the situation worse when i test drove them. loader work is 10,000 times easier with a 2 pedal system. im no deere lover either. i have had 5 repairs on a new tractor that has 28 hours on it. next time i will buy buy whomever is the cheapest because they are all crap.

      The biggest problem with the pedal is people with small feet may have a problem with it. My wife uses our tractor a lot, and the pedal isn't really made for her at all. The two pedal system Deere and others use makes it a lot easier with smaller feet.
