I heard once a year the Animal Rescue League puts flowers on her grave. She supposedly left a lot of money to the organization in her will.
This is true. They have her picture on the wall to this day and you can still adopt “Lizzie Kitties” as they call them in her honor.
@@bobdotlich5480wow
She was extremely kind to animals and children’s charities.
She left me nothing.
So sweet of her💗
A creepy detail I found out...Elizabeth Montgomery was actually distantly related to Lizzie Borden. She didn't know it at the time of the filming of "The Legend of Lizzie Borden", but she was actually her 6th cousin, twice removed.
*shivers!*
There is some resemblance!
Big Deal. That story is so OLD. Montgomery gave a fine performance in that movie, may she RIP.
@@gregrak9389 , well, I found it interesting. So, that's the big deal. ;)
@@Concetta20Agree but Liz Montgomery was pretty. BTW 6th cousin once removed is pretty distant. Still fascinating stuff. Was it on the Montgomery side or her mothers.?
One interesting fact: Lizzie was an early advocate for animals. She rescued many and dedicated a lot of her money for the cause. Many of the parties that she held at Maplecroft were actually fundraisers for animal rights organizations.
Another interesting fact: Lizzie's uncle (her mother's brother) lived next door to them and he killed his own children. That family had some real issues.
I looked it up. They said his wife killed two of the three children.
Didn't Lizzie leave her money to animal rights as well? Hard to believe that someone who loved animals as much as she did, would commit such a heinous crime.
@@mariadmaldonado7979 Not really. She very well could have loved animals but in one dreadful situation where she felt driven up a wall she could also kill people.
@@heididietrich9800 That’s horrendous. Good grief.
@@angelwings7930 I don't know how true it is, but I've heard claims that even Hitler liked animals and killed people.

Lizzie and Emma didn't live together until they died. They had a personal issue around 1909 and never spoke to each other again. Yet they died within days of each other in 1927
Emma became wise to Lizzie's lesbian "proclivities." hence, their estrangement.
Born 9 years apart, died 9 days apart.
@@gregrak9389So she was a lesbian?
I literally live less than a mile from that court house in New Bedford didn’t even know till I looked it up
Love this place, I stayed at this B&B back in the 90s and slept in Lizzies room. I wasn't afraid at all since the house was so beautiful. Loved the hatchet pancakes for breakfast. Also toured the cemetery and the cool gift shop.
Did you sense any presences there?
@@juicydaboss418 no
I was born in Fall River and I remember visiting the house back in the 80s. I have a lot of fond memories of growing up in the area. Thank you for a wonderful video.
While attending my grandmother's funeral there, I asked the caretaker where Lizzie was buried. He said "Not with the family." When I asked why he told us it was because people through the years "tampered" with her grave. So everyone knows she's not where she is supposed to be, she had been moved - but nobody knows to where. True or not, it was interesting.
im gonna say not true as her grave was inbedded in conceat as her order be fore her death
Not true. The cemetery is owned by the city and all burial records are public. She is buried with the Borden family.
@@steveusn6852 I'd suspect that if she was moved to an unmarked place, you could look at available lots vs what is headstoned and see if things dont line up.
@@pincushionllama The only thing is chances are if she was moved she would be placed in a grave that is marked with a false name to keep people from messing with it and her original stone would remain with the rest of the family.
@@SYNfulfoREVer a name like nedrob eizzil ?
Elizabeth Montgomery played the part of Lizzy in a TV movie. Really well done.
Christina Ricci did a great job too
She was also Lizabeth’s 6th cousin twice removed & she didn’t even know that while filming
The 1975 TV movie with Elizabeth Montgomery was the best one.
She did a great job in that movie
Emma moved out of Maplecroft long before the sisters died. They had a falling out. Lizzie changed her name to Lizbeth after her trial. The rage that was seen in the way that Andrew and Abby Borden were killed suggests the killings were personal done by someone who was full of rage.
Lizzie Borden spent 10 months in Taunton Jail. I live in Taunton, MA and there is so much history in this area. Famous serial killer nurse Jane Toppan is buried in a Potters Field grave at Mayflower Hill Cemetary in Taunton, MA. Keep up the amazing work that you guys provide for us.
The Elf On The Shelf Christmas Carol ua-cam.com/video/wnHkwXY7iJo/v-deo.html
Didn’t know about her !
Fun Fact - I live in Taunton in the county of Somerset, Uk. I think that is where the original name for your town in America originates.
Your absolutely correct. A young woman named Elizabeth Poole from England found the town of Taunton, MA in 1637 and became a town in 1639. It became a city in 1864. Her final resting place is also in Taunton, MA. She is the first woman to discover a city/town in The United States/Americas.
Curious as to why she spent 10 months in Taunton city jail. Ash street jail was only 2 blocks away from the court house and the trial only lasted 12 days. Another side story about her I'm curious to hear about
I can’t find the source, but I remember reading what Agatha Christie said in an interview when asked about Lizzie Borden’s trial. She said if the prosecution had asked a few more of the right questions, they would have easily convicted her.
This channel has the best intro/outro song.
The autopsy pictures were WOW. I hadn't really considered what the bodies would look like and the picture of her father on the table...his face, or what remained...wow...
While they did not live together in their older years, they died at almost the same time. Emma left Maplecroft early on since she was not happy with Lizzy’s lifestyle. Emma moved to Vermont I believe.
Lizzie died of pneumonia on June 1, 1927, in Fall River. The day Lizzie died, Emma had an accident and broke her hip. She died due to chronic nephritis, 9 days later, on June 10, 1927. The Borden sisters, along with the rest of the family, are buried side by side at the family plot in 'Oak Grove Cemetery,' Fall River.
NO SHIT, we all saw that in this video.
@@gregrak9389 calm your farm greggles
The folks who previously owned Maplecroft did so much work getting it back to the way it looked when Lizzie lived there. They wanted to make it another bed and breakfast but had troubles with things, not exactly sure what, but hopefully whoever buys it will not change anything and maybe try to do the b&b themselves.
herd some person saying it was going to by turned to an axe throwing place. hop that's not true.would by pretty disgrasefull if that's true.
😂😂😂
I read that Lizzie loved to read. She had bookshelves filled with books in every room on the second floor of Maplecroft.
Even though you couldn't film inside the house the pictures were still pretty awesome. Thanks for a fascinating tour. Happy Halloween!! 💀🖤🎃

Thanks for this video! Seth Borden is a youtuber on here that does ghost investiogations with his brother Chase Borden they are fifth cousins of the Borden family on their fathers side. Also Elizabeth Montegomery who starred as Lizzie Borden in a movie from the past is also a cousin of Lizzies.
Lizzie was ostracized from polite society/ her social circle, after the court case. She did go live high up on the hill with actors and actresses as her only friends, which was frowned on in good society. Actors were looked down upon.
I live in Goldsboro North Carolina where some of the Borden relatives moved to and purchased an old cotton plant and renamed it Borden Manufacturing Company. My parents, brother, grandparents, great aunts and uncles all worked there until it's closure in 1995.
The “Obscurities” Podcast did an excellent episode on this topic. The truth is still bone chilling.

Great job with Lizzie's story! Enjoyed the video! The main reason Lizzie got off was the phrase "guilty beyond reasonable doubt"! Even though many things maybe pointed to Lizzie, nothing directly tied her to the murders. They had to let her go. They could not take her life on "maybe she did it". Back then, many men, (jurors), did not believe a woman could commit such violent murders. Elizabeth Montgomery's portrayal in the tv-movie of how Lizzie could have done it is very plausible!
Lizzy Borden was also a pretty good metal band in the 80s, Give Em The Axe and Me Against The World were popular songs back then.
Couple minor mistakes. Lizzie’s real name was Lizzie. After she was acquitted, she changed her name to Lizbeth. Also you are correct that autopsies were done of Andrew & Abby in the dining room but Lizzie didn’t faint there. She fainted in court when they brought in the actual skulls of her parents to show the handless hatchet could have inflicted the wounds in their skulls.
Looking forward to this one! Happy SpooksGiving!

We loved your footage.
You were in our backyard practically. If we had seen you; we absolutely would have offered you a cup of my homemade Mutton soup 🍜.
Quick correction...Emma lived at the Maplecroft house only for a short time, as she was firmly against Lizzie's lesbian friends and 'acquaintances' that frequented the house. Also, you can read the actual transcript from the trial...there's a book written verbatim from it. 'The Trial of Lizzie Borden' if I'm not mistaken. Their Uncle that visited and spent the night before the murders was the only other person (IMHO) that was a legitimate suspect.
He actually does say that. Micheal says that the sisters had a falling out and Emma moved out.
Yes, fascinating book! - "The Trial of Lizzie Borden" by Cara Robertson.
It's a great book😁
The problem is he doesn't appear to have any true motive he didn't profit from Andrew's death, only Lizzie and Emma did so I can't see that he had any part in it other than possibly knowledge. I've often thought that the maid Bridget knew of the murder but probably didn't help and covered for Lizzie. I've been very curious to know what happened to Bridget after this
@@skye.325 I remember reading somewhere that Bridget moved to Butte Montana after the trial. She married a man she met while working as a maid and died in 1948.
I have always been very interested in the Lizzie Borden case. I am on the fence if she's guilty or not. I am with Jessica. If she did it she had help or was the help. Thank you Michael and Jessica for sharing this amazing trip you are on. Happy Halloween!

Elizabeth Montgomery was sixth cousins with Lizzie Borden, but she was unaware of that fact, even when she portrayed Lizzie in the 1975 film. It was discovered after Montgomery had passed. Fascinating.
The hands in the window at 15.10 freaked me out if I'm honest 😳
I’ve stayed overnight in the room where her stepmother was found hacked to bits.

She wasn't hacked to bits, just saying. Her head was pretty much obliterated though. 🤷♂️

Elizabeth Montgomery was also distantly related to Lizzie Borden, whom she portrayed in a 1975 movie.
Elizabeth Montgomery is your second cousin? That's awesome! Did you know her well? I remember when I was a kid she co-starred with O.J. Simpson in a movie originally titled A Killing Affair. I think studio executives eventually ended up changing the title to something a little tamer. I admired her courage for doing that movie, as an interracial love affair was at the center of it.

I was born in Fall River, Ma. and share the same birthday as Lizzie Borden, July 19. I am friends with the former long time owners of the 2nd St. house and more recently the French St, house, Donald Woods and Lee-Ann Wilbur. Unfortunately Lee-Ann recently passed away right after selling them.
This video is amazing! I love how on her grave there's a pair. "Lizzie Bordon took an axe gave her mother 18 whacks when she saw what she had done gave her father 10 plus 1"
Another well done tour. Always interesting in your technique. Another Haunt you may be interested in visiting is Jefferson, Texas. The Diamond Bessie murder took place there and at the time of the trial (1877) it was as sensational as the O.J. Simpson trial in the US. Her grave is worth a visit in a very historic graveyard. Several of the hotels there are reputably haunted. My favorite's the Excelsior, built in the 1850s, and from first hand experience I believe it. There's even a nightly ghost walk tour visiting all of the saloons and brothels from the hell raising days. A beautiful well kept town.
That's not far from where I live. I've been there years ago, but never had time for sightseeing. It is a beautiful town with some interesting history.
While I'm thinking of that area of the state, Scottsville cemetery is a must-see. Just south-east of Jefferson, it's got some of the most beautiful statuary you'll ever see in such a small cemetery. It's a classic example of the American "garden cemeteries", with rose bushes, flowers, ornamental flowering trees and shrubs, etc.. Well worth the visit for anyone in the area.

I’ve been avidly waiting for this video and you both did not disappoint. Lizzie (her name was actually Elizabeth) Borden changed her name after the murders to Lizbeth, I guess to try and distance herself from the tragedy. Fun fact: Elizabeth Montgomery was related (distance cousins) to Lizzie. As for whodunnit? I think Lizzie did commit the crimes, possibly in collusion with the maid. It’s interesting to note that had Andrew died before Abby, his estate would have passed to her and then, with her own death, to her relatives and not to the Borden girls.
I never knew that about Elizabeth Montgomery. Cool!

I believe she did it! But she was more than likely an ongoing victim of incest! Whoever did it must have had alot of rage in them to kill like that, in such a up close and personal way! She probably harbored a lot resentment towards the stepmother also, who knew about it and did nothing about it! I'm glad she was acquitted! No one talked about that stuff in 1892!

We took a tour of the house just a couple of months before you filmed this. The guide was very well versed in the complete story, including a number of things that are not generally talked about. When we went, we, like most thought Lizzie did the killing. After the history lesson, we both have come to believe that she was the brains, but her uncle actually did the dirty work.
yes the evidence points to that
I love how that it's not just the story but they also pay attention to small details of the place they visit. 💯❣️
Great stuff! Love the channel. I'm a native of New Bedford (no longer reside there though) and have been to the Borden house as well. Unfortunately never made it to Maplecroft. I can remember my sisters saying the Lizzie Borden rhyme while jumping rope as kids. Seemed like everyone new it back then. Not sure how much time you were able to spend in New Bedford but there are a lot of old historical homes, areas and cemeteries there I'm sure you'd find interesting. Unfortunately it's not the same city it once was...but still some nice areas nonetheless. Looking forward to more content. Subscribed.
In a little more than a week, we're doing a jury trial at that courthouse in New Bedford. I am SO excited! I have never been to Massachusetts and I'm stoked that my first time will be in Lizzie Borden town. Cheers!
I was there back in 2010. It felt weird being in the actual spots where her father and step mom were killed. Maplecroft really is a nice looking house. That’s where the kids would stand outside yelling that rhyme at her towards the house.
