- Today we look at the Lisle Relay Pro. We test it on good and bad relays and talk about how relays work. It seems like it's a good little time saving diagnostic tool.
I forgot to mention that it works on 12-24 volts.

These videos are always awesome. Like Einstein said “If you can't explain it simply, you don't understand it well enough.” and you my friend did just that explained it simply.
Did you even watch it yet? 😂
About your comment on not wearing jewellery while working with electricity. My uncle was working on his semi-truck, and he was wearing one of those stretchy metal band watches. Well, he hit a ground and a positive with it, and burned the watch in to his wrist. Same shape and everything.
Great tool review, Sir! Have a great day! And God Bless. o7
In my tech school a guy did the same thing. We called him Timex 😜
I've seen photos of people who have lost entire fingers due to a simple wedding band not being removed.
Bought one when it came out. Freaking awesome! I use it all the time to eliminate the relay just because it’s so small and easy to use.
Just ordered one. Thanks for this fantastic review. I have had a cheap plug in tester that worked intermittently. It was so unreliable that you’d have to perform the test many times and basically take a guess based on it passed more times than failed. I think this will be much more reliable. Keep up the great content! Love watching your vids man.
Aaaaye. I've been getting so close to buying the Matco relay tester and I knew the OG existed outside of the "non-consensual intercourse" van. Been casually searching the source of who actually makes it and holding off to find an alternative. Then bam. I also work on forklifts and I'm not even going to bother with those relay test boards, since the company works on everything from skytrack, to toyota to yale and a list of arials.
proprietary is the bane of man
Well I didn't expect to need to buy this today
That is simple & slick, wish I would’ve thought of that
I accidentally clicked your video and was on page 8 of Mac's past catalog and it has the exact product you are looking at!
The internet is reading your mind 🙃
Its the government brother watch out😂
A future update it would tell you that wire 1 is common, wire 2 is N/O and so on, so that if you don't know what the pins are on the relay you can find out.
And contact resistance, current/voltage to change state in both directions, current at nominal voltage, insulation resistance between things that should not be connected, delay etc.
As an electrician I would check some of those with installation tester and lab power supply when needed, but I think that basic pass/fail result is enough for most users.
But, does that thing handle other type of relays? Latching, blinker etc.. Or things that have common for coil and load contacts. Waiting for blinker would make it slower, so might not be something you want always to be on, but as a mode beside 4/5 wires or something.
That was my first thought as well. With todays microcontrollers it would be really easy to make such a device. Look for example at Peak Atlas DCA55 that identifies any type of transistor/diode/mosfet/LED/triac AND tells you the pinout.
Enjoying the long form vids, that thing would have been so useful earlier in my career!
I love the outtakes being included! Thanks!
😁👍🏻
Lol I paid $102 off the Cornwell truck but I’m happy. Was pulling my hair out on an international 466dt when he showed up.
That’s how the tool truck gets you. They always show up when you need something 😜
But you got a free pocket screwdriver right?
Thanks funk.
It tests multiple times as some relay faults are intermittent as the contacts are worn inside due to welding/arching
Thank you for making this
Thank you funk! ❤
This thing is pretty sweet.
Gridpaper tablets are the 💣
Love the outtakes
FREAKIN' AWESOME!
Great video man. Ty from a noob.
You can also get a female relay socket, connect leads to female socket, just plug in the relay.
The pinoouts are different for keying for different current capacities.
Awesome channel!! I was a union machine repair person for the buffalo news for 20 years, and they closed up abruptly, I was thinking about trying to start my own business doing the same, Would you consider a video about your mobile set up
Already did 😉

Missed it ,, sorry.. thank you!
i want one
Im confused as to what fault exactly these are testing for. I burned coil? A shorted coil? Sticking contacts? I only ask because i check for all of these with my filedpiece multimeter that has a lot of other utility and this tool is hyper specific.
It tests the coil and contacts.
Does it cope ok with the bigger stuff like a starter solenoid?
Great Job on the video. That’s a cool toy. I’ve been doing it the old fashion way, like you showed with the test light…
“…scratchin’ my balls on camera…”
PRICELESS ha ha ha ha
😂😂
What does it do if the coil wire is broken? Like if you left one side unclipped, does it just say the relay is bad?
Yep 👍🏻
Is that one 12/24? Cause I have one of the other types and have jumper wires, which are a pain, to put different form factors in. But I also modified mine for a M12 battery for a handheld so I lost the 24vdc option.
Yes it is 12/24 volts. Forgot to mention that but I put it in the discretion 😎👍🏻
It's too bad most of the relays I deal with are soldered onto a board. But I can see that could be useful any way
Is there a version for 24v ac coil relays?
This does both. I forgot to mention that 🤦🏻♂️
Any thoughts on the best shop vac?
I’ve had a Shop Vac brand one for 15 years with no complaints.
I actually just picked up a Milwaukee M18 for a future video so stay tuned 😜
The more specialized a product is, the more expensive they can get away with making it. The evil genius who first developed the concept must have died a multi-billionaire.
Also, out of curiosity, how much did that particular tester run you?
13:20 60$
Is it good for 24v, and can it cope with relays with flyback diodes across the coil? G
It’s good for 24v and diode relays. I actually tested one but I cut it out for time.
Thanks G @@FunkFPV
Not bad but the limited coil voltage makes it unsuitable for me.
Will it test ssd relays?
I don’t know but I doubt it.
Why did it take so long for someone to develop something this simple that would have helped bolts like me out with the electrical mysteries of automobiles.😅
I remember working on this Grove scissor lift years ago. It had no less than 20 relays in it and one was bad. LoL
This is exactly what I need, because fuck Sennobogen. German engineered/branded relay's wont fit my tester.
What if it is a 3 pin?
That’s a transistor 😜
There are 3 pin relays.@@FunkFPV
@@HylianOverlord just put two of the clips on the common pin, would probably work.
It seems overly involved. as an electronics tech for over 40 years a multimeter has always worked for me.
A legitimate Mechanic simply uses their VOM.
Plus has ability to read coil and contact resistance, determine pinout etc.
If only one day I’ll be as cool as you 🙏🏻
Al Gore has no rhythm
"Brain box", is the key phrase that equals "don't buy". That thing will one day tell you a bad relay is good, leading someone on a frustrating egg hunt. Just learn how to use a couple wire leads and a multi meter, like a skilled man.
The more money you waste, the longer it takes to retire
Its a woke relay tester from harbor freight junk made in china 🤣
Lisle makes a significant number of specialized tools for crap on macto and mac boss.
The fails at the end are quite good 😂
