I always find it is better to spend a little time making a tool to assist in assembly, rather that spending aged trying to assemble without special tools, and you still have the tool for next time, there are now a lot of different "snipe nosed" pliers on the market, and they are very easy to modify into special tools, especially the crimping tools for setting down the lugs on the lever box. Many thanks for posting this one Stef! Chris B.
Yes most of the tools i use are home made for specific jobs. Thanks for watching and for your comments Chris. Stay safe.
Thank you, Stef. I am not competent to do this but do enjoy your videos on how to.
Thanks Anzan, im glad you enjoy them. Stay safe.
Great video. Great learning experience. Could you please explain how you made the tool?
Glad you enjoyed it. it was made from a piece of wire coat hanger with the help of my Dremel cutting and sanding accessories. Thanks
excellent demonstration,having performed this procedure on a 100 year Waterman,the insertion of the pressure bar I found to extremely challenging ;
Hi Earl, yes occasionally they can be challenging it doesn't always go easy. Well done with persevering. Stay safe.
Stef, it is without doubt, one of the more fiddly tasks to accomplish. I tend to wrap an eleastic band around the box lever to keep it in place, prior to bending up that locking tab.
Brilliant job (especially with a camera obscuring what you're doing). As always, first rate presentation !! Mind how you go,
Andrew 🙂
Thanks for the advice Andrew. Yes it is a little more difficult when your working at arms length. Thanks
You're a better man than I, Stef.
Im sure im not Andrew. Thanks
Let's put it this way, Stef, I've learned an awful lot from your tutorials - that's a particular gift only some can bestow upon others 👍
Thanks for your expertise. I’ll now try to put it into action.
Thanks for watching and good luck.
Awesome guy!
Thanks for watching.
Hi Stef, thank you for sharing your knowledge. I really enjoy your videos. Would you know where to go for supplies. I need a leaver mechanism for a 1925 Conklin I originally bought for parts but it is a beautiful pen? Any ideas would be much appreciated. Thanks regards Jenny
Hi Jenny, thanks for watching. As most people do you will need to search online. I have pens that are waiting for parts and i just keep searching. Good luck.
@@penkino1 Thanks Stef
No problem, good luck.
Thanks Stef, great video. I now have confidence to tackle it. One question; when removing the pressure bar from the old lever, I imagine you would have to bend / twist the lugs that secure it to the bottom of the old lever.
Hi Norm, thanks for watching. Be careful and easy as you go. No there should be no need to bend or twist anything. Good luck.
Grandmia Pens Thanks Stef.
A very informative video, Stef, thanks so much!
Im glad it was informative Alberto. Your welcome.
Great!
Thanks again.
Hi Stef, Quick question. The CS 84 has a different type of lever retaining system, a spring in a recess in the celluloid. A few other pens seem to use this method. It is giving me many headaches, I can't seem to find any tutorials to illustrate how to deal with it. Any tricks or tools you use? Really appreciate all these priceless videos. I would love to know how many people you have educated :) Cheers
Hi Rob you will not find many tutorials as it is not a procedure i would recomend you try as it is difficult. Save yourself a headache and send it to a restorer . Thanks
Thank you, Stef, for presenting that just beautiful Duofold International pen! I am sending you an email about it. Best regards, RS
Hi Richard, yes its a gorgous pen. Reply sent. Thanks and stay safe.
Thanks. Great video.
Glad you liked it! Stay safe
Google translator.
Thanks! Now I know how it works.
Thank you for watching. Stay safe.
i have a problem with the lever on my pen but its necessarily broken, the lever on my pen is loose so it rattles a little and has gotten caught on fabrics and shot ink out on occasion, is there any alteration i could do to fix this or would a part need to be replaced?
It is difficult to comment without seeing the pen, sorry. Wht not send it to your local repair person ? Good luck.
@@penkino1 Good news Stef! i found out what was causing my loose flappy lever problem, it wasnt because of a bum part, but just by poor design. being 17 i don't have the money to pay someone to fix my pen so i disassembled the pen to find that rather than the pressure bar being attached to the lever, it was glued to the sac! wondering who the heck decided that was a good idea i looked for some information about WEAREVER, the maker of the pen. i came to find out that the pens were generally made cheaper and sold for 50 cent to a dollar, intended to be cheap so that a student could take it to school without being too afraid of damaging the pen, hence the cheap, poor design of the lever mechanism
i hope you found that as interesting as i did :)
@@wintlock If it is an old pen then you will find old sacs fused to the pressure bar inside. Clean it all of and install a new sac with a little powder. Good luck
If we dont have that home made tool, how do we lock the lever box into place? Thanks, Lily
Hi Lily, with difficulty or send it to a restorer. Good luck and stay safe.
@@penkino1 looks like I will need to make 1 like that.
@@penkino1 i would like to restore it myself thanks. Have a good one!
Good luck with it Lily. Stay safe
Thats fine, you have a good one too. Stay safe
