I found a Waterman pen from the 1940s in a chased ebonite body. It was my father in law's gift from his Mother when he went into the Navy. It was not used probably since that time. Of course I pulled he lever and it did not budge. Thankfully I did not go any further and had it restored. It is lovely writer and the oldest pen in my collection.
Thank you so much for your video. I just inked up my new vintage pen! I just bought a few vintage pens on Ebay (each with a different ink mechanism) and I am happy to report they all write beautifully including my lever fill Shaeffer balance.
excellent video & perfect timing! I just got a beautifully restored 1940's Waterman Commando Lever filler. It writes like a dream & is quickly becoming one of my favorite pens.
Thank you! I bough a Pik A Point National fountain pen will lever filling mechanism and was wondering how would I fill it with ink. Your video is a life-saver for me!
A nice simple and informative video. Would the procedure be similar for a Touchdown filler?? Maybe you can do a short video on that if you haven't already done so.
Hi Amy, we often use Waterman ink for dipping pens in the store or for demonstrations, mainly because they rinse out so easily. Almost all modern ink made by major brands is safe for vintage pens.

I bought three lever fillers this weekend at the Ohio Pen Show, so this is very timely - thank you!
I am just getting into vintage pens so this video was super helpful

Thank you, thank you, thank you. I have been afraid of using my lever filled pens. This is wonderful. Thank you Brian.
That was super helpful! Thanks so much for showing the bubbles part. That's been difficult to see in other videos.

Thank you. Have a Sheaffer lever filler, so needed this info.
Amazing mechanism to fill ink
have not come across one of these types of pan yet, but it is still nice to know, thank you
Thanks for the clear demonstration.
And thank you for your assistance and supplies to restore several of my Esterbrook pens. KB
Thanks, will finish when I have time 🎉

It's a sac filler, so it's squeezing the sac, so similar in that. Cleaning is virtually identical, in my experience.
Thanks for the perfect explanation! I bought a vintage foundation pen called ester brook j jewel and I want to know how to restore the sac of it.
Thanks!
Interesting video.😮
Very helpful! Now I know how to clean my Bayard lever filler pen. 🙂
If you are taking a pen out of rotation, should you put it away dry? Or filled with water?
I wish I had watched this ten minutes ago, before I tried the lever on the pen I set aside 50 years ago with ink in it and found today.
Very helpful; thank you! I noticed that you used Waterman ink.
Are other inks safe for vintage pens or only Waterman ink?

Do you have to clean th epen after every use?
No
