I've never seen (and hear) Eddie Bravo so damn quiet before. I almost forgot he was even in the podcast on a few occasions. He must be in awe. So much respect towards Rickson!
I mean if you DON'T share that level of respect for Rickson, I'd wager you don't know who he is lol. Plus Eddie being a Jiu Jitsu guy himself adds 100 levels of respect.
I used to worship him, but we have no real proof of how good he was, outside the family. In mma he was not good.. I think being older, I don't see him as an icon anymore. As a man, he has cheated a lot and left his son,and was always super arrogant.I met Renzo, Roger, Mauricio Gomes,Carly Gracie and they were so nice, but they knew Rickson liked to be king. Did he have a good mma fight? Absolutely not. I listened to the podcast and he said some good stuff, but as usual,it was all about what he thought. Not into listening or learning. Yes, Eddie has offended Royler by schooling him in their 2nd fight, and Rogan is in awe of all tough "manly"men, but could he have beaten Gary Tonin, or even his son Kron.? I think not
I am going to share with all of you what I genuinely believe is one of the most powerful and insightful philosophies to have. "The opposite of courage is conformity" - Rickson Gracie @2:52:23 Now, this interview is a gem in every way however, the wisdom and deep insight conveyed by that one line is priceless. Thanks for this Joe and Eddie. And thank you to Rickson Gracie for sharing such a beautiful philosophy. Thanks!
This is the only podcast with no cursing lol. This is the ultimate respect given to a guest on the Joe Rogan experience. I watched this probably 5x from the beginning and its so motivational and educational.
It was no rules. Look at vovchanchin ko Adilson lima then Robson Gracie brings him back in to get smashed again plus a broken nose.Robson is Renzos dad. That was bad
A lot of the vale tudo fights had the "no rules" taglines, but even the first ufc (as well as the Brazilian no-holds barred circuits) still implemented no biting & no eye gouging from the very beginning.
dylan coulter if you watch choke they actually say before the tournament that the only rules are no biting, eye gouging or fish hooking the cheek, bit the ref didn't see shit
Thank goodness, because my initial thought is why the fcuk coulkd you get such a rare interviewee, then get another dude who is known for rambling, on the same show.
"if he dont want to come, we can fight on the street, whatever" "if he show up, eh, okay, he show up" "no, forget the paper, if he come here to fight we fight. forget the bureaucracy" -rickson gracie
Wow. Rickson is beyond the greatest...he was a legend by its definition, almost mythical. Watching this was better than I even imagined. Very inspired...
I've been watching a lot of Joes interviews before this one, and in this interview i can see that Joe is in awe of his guest, no interuption, no silly jokes, no conspiracy theory talks, just pure admiration for his hero.
I said it on the Enson podcasts and I will most definitely say it again here. There are few people that I would say are fascinating to listen to. Rickson is now one of them. This might be one of the greatest podcasts Joe has ever done. Man is a living legend and I did not want this one to end and please have this man back on again soon
+Aman Mishra What's the story with that? He beat one of them in a tournament in 2002 and one Gracie still holds a grudge? I wouldn't have thought any of them would be that petty
+jef longstaf awesome and gracious guy! He said hello back to me and went back to his business and when he left he said goodbye to me and I was like this guy is cool af
+Dylan N Yeah, it is something impressive. But you have to keep in mind that Rickson Gracie, besides the competition, is a true legendary martial artist. We are talking about someone who is around 55 and 60 and have been involved into that lifestyle for the entire 55-60 years of his life. Martial arts are in his blood man. A true warrior to look upto.
Rickson is so lucky he was famous 20 years ago, because he wouldn't have done much at all these days. I feel like Kron has a better game than his dad.Why didn't Rickson ever go to Abu Dhabi? There were other guys his age at the time. The choke and Vale tudo before that were absolutely mediocre fighters. Rickson got a million for fighting Takada. Wanted a million to fight Mark Kerr which was never going to happen. At least Renzo put his arse on the line. My problem with Rogan is not is knowledge but the way he slams fighters when he's not in a position to do that IMO. He's not a fighter nor has he ever been.
TheLastFraudster show me videos or examples where he "slams" fighters... he's only critiquing what they are doing and how they can IMPROVE their game... he doesn't have to be a fighter inorder to know his mma... everyone who critique and comment on other sports, movies, art, ect aren't either...
Your right he doesn't need to be a fighter however he does heavily crictize fighters from time to time and starts lecturing about what they should be doing. Which for me at this point crosses the line as he has never done it.
TheLastFraudster Because he's never fought mma professionally this doesn't make him a martial arts expert? How many world class coaches have fought in mma? Greg Jackson? No. Eric del Fiero? No. Javier Mendes? No. But yet they tell world champions what they're doing wrong on a day to day basis. Picking out mistakes in other peoples technique doesn't mean youre saying you are better than them.
This was one of those episodes that held my full attention. Rickson is a legend and my idol. The last time I felt like this was when you brought Kron on. Thank you Joe for making this podcast happen.
That was almost 3 hours?? Wow!!! I could listen to him for 3 days.. I think Joe and Eddie are great together.... Love how Eddie was explaining the rubber guard to Rickson after the interview was over....That was a great interview all together.. Thanks for sharing!!
Man, Rickson simply gets it. When you hear him speak you can see that he understands what martial arts is all about from a much deeper perspective. Excellent interview.
By far one of the best podcast. Gracie talking about finding empty mind and how jiujitsu is mostly invisible can be used by everyone in life not just in the mma world.
Rickson was my teacher. I am forever grateful to Rickson for teaching me Jiu Jitsu. I got the chance to train with Eddie Bravo when Matt Baker brought Eddie into Bakersfield, Ca. You go Joe!
Realistikk513 Thanks for the words man. My brother loved to practice Jiu-jitsu and I remember when he was excited years back when AOTS on the G4 channel had Royce Gracie for an interview. Thanks again.
Old Ironsides Dude in your wildest dreams you wouldn’t have a prayer against Rickson , as far as anyone protecting him he fought every one on the street or gym but ya some clown who came off the street trying to hurt him yes they watch out for that because he has a bad back and everyone would try that bullshit. If you think you got over on him he let you as some random off the street.
wow - at last :) Whatever people say about how good or not Rickson might or might not be / have been as a fighter etc... there's no denying that he is everything you expect a martial arts master to be... an evolved being physically, mentally and spiritually.
it's amazing how rickson gives some lessons of humility to joe and Eddie, about how special a person can be, not everything is a factory or production of techniques, fighters, where everyone does the same, it's something beyond what we could not control, that is part of life, the inalterable of some things motivates us just as we achieve
The only person from the Gracie family that is on bad terms with Eddie Bravo is Royce Gracie, who really is one of the most irrational fighters I've ever seen.
Is he the one that said none of the Gracies doing MMA need to work on anything but jiu jitsu and that its bullshit for them to waste time on other things? I don't know if it was him or one of the others, but that's a ridiculous way to think.
Nick Stewart That would be Royce my man. Also Kron said something of the sort but their way of thinking about it is that all you need is BJJ to win a fight, because if you can't get the fight to the ground, your technique is flawed. It makes sense on paper but it is unrealistic.
With Krons Jits I can understand, but with Royce it won't work unless opponent knows nothing on the ground.Royce is basic jits at best. Kron is a wizard, and a lot better than his old man, and less arrogant
There is nothing more honorable and humble than being a martial artist and slapping someone in the face unprovoked and beating them up. A true martial artist by definition and a master. #gracieordie
@Steelmonger888 I mean he did, but he didnt let it go to his head, saying that someone accomplished as much in the martial arts today, as someone like Rickson in bjj, who was doing it in completely different time and environment, is always a bit up to debate. But what is great about Eddies attitude is that he is very humble and I actually think he was as excited as Joe to have him there.
I absolutely LOVE hearing him speak on his mindset and the physiology of a WARRIOR!! Legend is not a strong enough word, if you wanna see what a GLADIATOR looks like, Look at Master Rickson Gracie
Wow. This has got to be one of the top JRE episodes. I love how Rickson struggles in explaining the "mushin no shin" state, but does a great job of describing its effect on his life. This guy packs some wisdom.
Rickson: Yeah, but guillotine Kron, the guy can escape. Kron: No dad, doesn't escape. Rickson: Nah, escape. Kron: No... no... if I get it... Rickson: Oh come on man, grab me. Rickson: I tap. (2:04:30)
It’s 2020, it’s about time that this podcast gets a remaster
If it ain't broke dont fix it
He’ll yeah
They just need to have him back on.
It's all ready grandmastered........
It’s a “spoken word” podcast, why remaster it if you hear everything clearly? Plus depending on the equipment it was recorded on, how they ran the signal through and the software/settings they recorded it in - you can’t really make it better quality audio. I imagine if they had cleaner recordings they would have released that.
Whos here in 2020 during a corona virus lockdown?
Yes my brother! Going to watch Choke in a minute.
Yep. Seen this a hundred times in my feed but only now watching and taking in every word 👌
I’m thinking of joining a cult... Spreading good vibes, not afraid to hear opposing views, fascinated with hunting and fighting, started a podcast, now maybe dmt next? I think I need that if I’m going to be able to wear a fanny pack... Seriously though, these podcasts help get through the day...

Aye
Such a legend. I can't believe this shit is free to watch.
ryanexsus hey shut up
Dickster he's not saying that its shit per se you mong. "Shit" as in "thing", not something that sucks
Glenn056 I think dickster meant as in don't give joe any ideas to charge for this
Awesome to watch a master
Ok don't use bad language
So much obvious class. The way he thanks Joe in the beginning and just his overall speech. I feel honored to even watch the video.
was thinking the same thing.
Bernardo must be hugely honored too !

GET HIM BACK ITS BEEN ALMOST 3 YEARS
fuck yeah

Agreed!!
It's actually almost 5 years
Four years now and this is the only sighting of the Gracie family's unicorn
I've never seen (and hear) Eddie Bravo so damn quiet before. I almost forgot he was even in the podcast on a few occasions. He must be in awe. So much respect towards Rickson!

Perfect. Dharma.
Simple and true
Please get Rickson back for another episode, I’ve listened to this one 3 times 👍🏼
I am going to share with all of you what I genuinely believe is one of the most powerful and insightful philosophies to have.
"The opposite of courage is conformity" - Rickson Gracie @2:52:23
Now, this interview is a gem in every way however, the wisdom and deep insight conveyed by that one line is priceless.
Thanks for this Joe and Eddie.
And thank you to Rickson Gracie for sharing such a beautiful philosophy.
Thanks!
fantastic, got my blue belt today
Dezz Berry nice man!
Dezz Berry Congrat bro!
Wow, rickson was just dropping knowledge bombs . Massive respect to the master!
Yeah if only that dipshit eddie would stfu
zombiewack he barely spoke you mongrel, I hope that was a joke
@@zombiewack Eddie is an incredible fighter.
Hickson*
studybeats Eddie as a trainer I respect but he is not a fighter and definitely not in the same breath as Rickson.
"You can't give me surprises coz I don't have expectations" Rickson is from some other planet..wow
The level of respect in this podcast is over 9000
This is the only podcast with no cursing lol. This is the ultimate respect given to a guest on the Joe Rogan experience. I watched this probably 5x from the beginning and its so motivational and educational.
yep, noticed that. joe was not trying to upset the gentleman.
Just watched Choke what an awesome documentary that little Asian guy had so much heart what a warrior.

you can't expect rickson to be as psyched about bjj at 50...buddies been doing it since 6. eddie bravo is like rickson at 20.
they like lil kids asking Grampa for stories 😅
Emanuel Headrington lol truer words havnt been spoken
Right! He said “okay guys last story. I wanna talk about the present. Or else we will be here for hours.
They are* like little* kids
That grandpa is the best their has ever been.
They are!
This mans outlook on life and living is absolutely gorgeous. I love how Joe and Eddie respect everything he says.
Hogan has hespect for Hickson.
😂😂😂😂😂🤘🏻
Lmao
Foh*
foh* Hickson 😅
And Hickson has alot of hespect foh Hogan too.
It's been forever, he should be on at least twice a year! Legend
This is the least I have ever seen Eddie talk.
Same with joe. They respect the master
Thank goodness, because my initial thought is why the fcuk coulkd you get such a rare interviewee, then get another dude who is known for rambling, on the same show.
It was simular to when Eddie had Jean Jacques Machado on his podcast.
He have to hespetch.
abysmal We need Jean Jacques Machado on this podcast, with out Eddie. Eddie poses too much of a rambling risk, still.

+Derrick Hodges It's just royce who has a beef with eddie. Even royler was ok with what happened in the match
+Aman Mishra What's the story with that? He beat one of them in a tournament in 2002 and one Gracie still holds a grudge? I wouldn't have thought any of them would be that petty

+Izaak Gray He beat them twice

The last hour of Rickson talking in detail about his life and his philosophy was incredible. Much respect and honor Master Rickson. Thank you.

+NateTheItalianStallion I think Maia is an old school jiu jitsu fighter of the same style he only strikes to set up take downs
Brian Heelan Maia has decent striking but he just goes to what is going to win him the fight, which is smart.
Eddie says put on the Zulu fight, Rickson says, that shit is old kid, lets talk bout real Jitsu lol
I feel honored to hear him speak, thank you so much Joe for getting him on!
I bet Joe and Eddie were like little school girls before the podcast.Like oh my god Rickson coming on the podcast what do I wear what do I wear!lol
Shit, who wouldn't? Rickson and Renzo are the two least full of shit AND the most respectful Gracies in the clan.
:'D
hell yea
Ha.ha👍
@Steelmonger888 I mean he did, but he didnt let it go to his head, saying that someone accomplished as much in the martial arts today, as someone like Rickson in bjj, who was doing it in completely different time and environment, is always a bit up to debate. But what is great about Eddies attitude is that he is very humble and I actually think he was as excited as Joe to have him there.
This was awesome, please have these guys back ,now you have 2 black belt in jiu jitsu. I'd love to see you guys talk now with even more experience
Rickson was pretty damn on point with his analysis about Rousey and her career future. Bravo was just fanboying like crazy :D
If serving is below you, leadership is beyond you. I love the honesty of what Hickson has to say about effectiveness vs. efficiency of the art.
WE NEED A PART TWO ITS JUNE 2ND 2019.. JJ machado already agreed that hes coming on (again sorta)
I absolutely LOVE hearing him speak on his mindset and the physiology of a WARRIOR!! Legend is not a strong enough word, if you wanna see what a GLADIATOR looks like, Look at Master Rickson Gracie
With Wim Hoff's philosophy and the science behind it Rickson is spot on with the dragon breath
Wow. This has got to be one of the top JRE episodes. I love how Rickson struggles in explaining the "mushin no shin" state, but does a great job of describing its effect on his life. This guy packs some wisdom.
Best interview i’ve ever seen 👏🏻👏🏻
What a wise man, master and teacher. He was and is just another level, incomparable. Truely the G.O.A.T.
He was 100 percent correct about when Kron got to UFC.
The amount of wisdom that's emanating from this man is astonishing
Rickson: Yeah, but guillotine Kron, the guy can escape.
Kron: No dad, doesn't escape.
Rickson: Nah, escape.
Kron: No... no... if I get it...
Rickson: Oh come on man, grab me.
Rickson: I tap.

Rickson Gracie, the best and most influential martial artist to have ever lived! He's proved himself over and over again!
