At least he's humble enough to realize he screwed up and apologize. Some people just rationalize it all away when they cheat, even if there really wasn't a remotely good reason for it.

Everybody has a choice, you either cheat or you don't, and when you chose the former then you're already bad and no amount of appologies would make the person who chose to cheat any better than the person who cheats and doesn't appologize or tries to rationalize their decision

Liara helps bring you back from the dead
Tali is willing to be exiled from her people to be with you
Garrus takes a missile to the face, loses his homeworld, and is still more worried about you
But Jacob? Jacob just couldn't just wait 6 months.
Thane is dying and pines for you and worries for you (and prays for you) and cares for his boy. Hell, if you choose Kaiden over him, he respects your decisions.

Thane is literally dying, living week to week, spends the entire time sending video messages and letters on how much he misses her, stays loyal to the end. Jacob's like "But it was 6 months tho," and makes a whole family.
All you need for solving that problem is either airlock and friendly prothean, or one bad built vent, where you can lock him. Problem solved :D :D
The timeline is more compressed then that mass effect is in cannon 3 years when shepard spent 2 dead. Jacob called up his side ho right after the mission.
Also, even if you had something with kaidan in me1 he's chill, he swears to take care of him if anything happens

I romanced Ashely in my playthroughs. Whenever someone starts saying that she's the worst I say one thing: Jacob.

I find Ash to be really funny.
People say bad things about Ash because they think she is Xenophobic, but people misunderstand her mentality.
She thinks that the alien races only care about themselves, and as such, humans should too. And she is not, technically, wrong. When shit hits the fan, the aliens looked for themselves. If not, ME3 would not required so much legwork to unite them by doing what they need.
Sure she is extreme on this viewpoint, but remember that she wasn't, technically, wrong about it.

Meanwhile Jacob, who has nothing to do after the suicide mission, goes dark on Shepard, without a breakup, goodbye, or closure... and shows up later with another lady he knocked up.
The thing is that, Jacob left the Alliance for rather weak reasons. Then he leaves Cerberus when that organisation starts looking like (Surprise! Surprise!) an ultranationalistic terrorist group. I'm not surprised that he left Shepard when the relationship didn't suit him anymore.

And Jacob was evidenced to be polite (don't even need to highlight specifics) and highly loyal (evidenced by his distrust of thane not being committed at the start) him cheating on you seems like inconsistent writing

Warzone romance is a funny thing. It's not unrealistic at all that he might have sought comfort with someone when you weren't there and he was in fear of his life. And when she got pregnant well, he's honorable enough he wasn't going to walk out, not like his dad.

GuyOnAChair I heard, not going to stop me from enjoying the game, unless his views were prevalent throughout the experience, It definitely concerns me more than the "Forcing tehh ghey on me" arguments against DA:I though, I won't deny that, I think Sci-Fi is inherently optimistic of multiculturalism and unity most of the time, especially in Mass Effect, Racism against any race, would really dishearteningly sap the values and ideals of the series for me :(

The downside of having only two body models for human NPCs. It’s also why Joker is so ripped. (Especially noticeable in ME2)
@Sarincrow doesnt matter though. Shepard is also in his thirties in the trilogy, yet he's definitely not a kid... These "kids" definitely look way older than they should.

I remember reading that people wanted the option to slap Jacob. Bioware truly made this dlc for all their fans :)

I liked Jacob in ME2... Sure, maybe his story wasn't as flushed out as the others, but he still had that good guy/bro thing going on. It's like Bioware just got lazy in ME3 though, making him cheat so they didn't have to continue a proper romance story? Come on... Jacob was supposed to be better than this.
And his loyalty mission was great

I fairly liked him in ME2, but I feel that the guy is much less loyal than he seems so at first glance. We're talking of a guy who leaves the Alliance for Cerberus because of very superficial reasons and then leaves again Cerberus when they start going in a direction that he doesn't agree with. The guy isn't very reliable overall. He's a lot more like his father than he originally thought so. He even admit it when you confront him. After the first shock, I felt that it was quite in line with how his character behave in politics overall.
@@philipped.r.6385 I get what you're saying, but I don't think anyone leaving Cerberus because of the shift from ME2 to ME3, should be considered disloyal.
I remember liking him in the intro... But then falling in love with all the other characters and forgot about him. By the time of Legions loyalty mission I forgot I hadn't used him. Then realized Wilson couldn't have been more interesting if he survived. 💁👀 Like bruh Wilson was kinda badass he betrayed us in the beginning but could have had a redemption arc by the end of the game.

+Joshua West i did Liara in first, then Thane, and everything turned out to be ok in ME3... in romance department.
I actually think it's kind of interesting that a LI would be unfaithful to you. And it doesn't have to be for a justifiable reason, like Kaidan or Ashley getting with someone while they thought you were dead. Jacob just cheated on your character. It happens sometimes.

I purposely gave my poor femshep a horrible life. Colonist, sole survivor, initiated romance with kaiden, left kaiden on virmire, romanced jacob, got cheated on. She's my "stone cold" commander.

In the 2nd game your love interest refuses to come with you. In some cases (Ashley) they scream at you and march off. That doesn't inspire confidence or loyalty in players.
But Jacob just gets on with his life and acts like no big deal. It's not like Ashley/Kaidan situation where you are lying on a table clinically dead unable to get in contact.
Jacob was just unwilling. That's worse.
I hope in the future Bioware doesn't write themselves into a hole like they did with Jacob cause they honestly pissed me off with it.
You and a whole lot of other people. Bioware really dropped ball in terms of writing on this game. Blame EA games, they were the ones that rushed the production of mass effect 3.
Does anyone else find it a little bit racist that the one romance that ends in cheating, getting another woman pregnant, and the drama the comes with it is the only romance with a black guy?
After replaying the trilogy i thought the same thing. "Wow, of course the black guy knocks someone up. Fucking reapers everywhere but better have the one of 2 black guys in the series have a baby mama"
Not to mention the fact that he was searching for his father who turned out to be an asshole criminal. I'm not sure if the presentation was deliberate, but the result was really bad.
Maybe it is, but you could go even further and point out that its also sexist because the only character to cheat on you is a man...i believe that they didnt do it on purpose, but their decision was still influenced by the social construct of men being generally depicted as those who cheat on their couples.
Also another thing that may denote the sexist tone against men in relationships its the fact that Thane "cheats" on his dead wife (i say "cheats" because its up for debate if it is morally correct to get another partner after your last one dies), while samara hardly gives you a hug, and while she expreses to have some degree of feelings towards shep, she doesnt take it further. You could say that its normal considering how she follows the codes of the justicar to the letter, but lets be honest, they let you romance someone who´s race remembers every detail and retains the emotional impact of those memories, but lord forbid you of trying that with woman following her code.

I know Jacob wasn't very popular but I wonder why they chose to go this route with him when literally every other romance partner waits for you. Even Thane's romance plot has a more satisfying conclusion.
I think that despite the bad ending of trying to be in a relationship with him, Jacob was one of my favorite characters.
Only black guy to be on your squad and bioware makes his loyalty mission finding his missing dad then has him cheat on you in the third game.

How can you not like Miranda as a character? she is one of the few in mass effect that expresses feelings, if you choose to break up with her shes gonna cry and she is sad about her sister because her father is after her and she doesn't want shepherds help because he would get too much trouble.you see now? people choose her because she cares :)

Kaidan waited 3 years to hook up actually (since ME3 confirms that by the time ME3 starts it's already been 3 years since ME1: 2 years thinking you were dead and 1 year wondering if you'd been brainwashed by Cerberus supremacists. Jacob spends just a couple of months chilling near the Mediterrean Sea and proceeds to impregnate the first chick that calls him and tells him "oh,Jacob, I need your manly abs to save me because I was so stupid to not realize I was designing Indoctrination Chips!"
You know, the thing is everyone else tried to keep in contact. Heck, Thane, sick and unable to see you as he was,sends you messages but is unable to reach you due to being an assassin hence not having access. Jacob was on earth and wasn't even being followed by Cerberus like, say,Miranda.If he really wanted to he could have found some way, he just decided not to,just like How Liara decided sticking her nose in prothean data was more important than seeing Shepard (to which she actually admits).
At least Liara has the excuse of being able to check up on you whenever she wants to due to being the Broker, and it is in her character not to initiate contact if someone doesn't make her, like with her mother. That, and she still has guilt over selling you to Cerberus. Also Liara didn't get someone else pregnant. Jacob though, has no excuse.

Why all the hate for the default female Shepard in the third game? I actually like the default female Shepard. Maybe it's just because I have a thing for redheads. When I saw how the default female Shepard looked in the third game. I started a new play through on the first game, and created a character that looked similar to the default character.
What's more offensive about it is that Bioware appeared to avoid the stereotype initially in ME2, making him intelligent and well-spoken. Then he ends up cheating in ME3, which gives the impression he was "like that all along." He even says here, "maybe I'm more like my old man than I thought," almost implying that it that behavior is inescapable in nature - I think that's much more racist than any dialogue could imply.
Did this with a Shepard that had Kaidan in ME1, then dated Jacob, (and got back with Kaidan after meeting up with Jacob and Brynn) very different speech. Instead of mentioning his old man, Jacob says something like, "Weren't you with Major Alenko when we first met?" I thought it was pretty cool to get called out like that. (Shepard didn't though)
Garrus will always be the right one for my Shepard. My girl doesn't even romance anyone in the first game, just waits for the opportunity to be with Garrus.

They didn'treallywriter themselves into a corner with Thane.They wanted a heroic death for Thane,that kind of negates any possibility of whole game romance. If they truly forgot Jacob was romanceable,then they're idiots,considering they the only characters not romanceable in ME2 where the ones culturally incompatible (Krogan and Salarian,salarian don't believe in romance,Krogan are insular, believing merely on reproduction not romance),They sure remembered Garrus and Tali.
Jacob in ME3 is despicable, but I actually like how Bioware have written him. Finally someone you thought you knew well betrays you (You know, unlike the betrayal from antagonists)
Jacob was actually a decent character in Mass Effect Galaxy (iPhone game). He was a bit of a cocky smartass and was pretty refreshing, would have worked well alongside the me2 squadmates. If they actually kept that Jacob through to me2 and me3 it would've been so much better. No idea why bioware turned him into such a mind numbingly boring bland stupid character

I actually liked him in ME2. Sure, he wasn't nearly as interesting as, say, Garrus or Miranda, but he wasn't so bad. He seemed like a decent guy, someone who joined Cerberus for the right reasons and wasn't afraid to speak his mind. And his loyalty mission was one of my favorites.
And then ME3 happened and they ruined him. I was so mad.
I think Bioware wanted to have one relationship that didn't work out, which is fair I guess, and since Jacob was the least popular character, he got that dubious honor.

I think it is supposed to represent that he is human with all the upsides and downsides that come with that attribute.

I only play MaleShep but even I felt satisfaction when she slapped him. Ever since I found out he cheated on FemShep I can't stand him. I look at him and think "how could you do that to the female me I never play." Actually surprised myself how annoyed Jacob makes me now considering I never even romanced him.

Sorry but Vega was not dull. He made me laugh, charmed the pants off me (unfortunately not literally) and was a really enjoyable teammate to have around. Jacob was. . .a piece of cardboard. I also loved the banter between Vega and Cortez. It was so fun to listen to them argue about what was better, the hammerhead or the mako.
That's like comparing apples and oranges...no, I mean literally, you can think an orange is more interesting than an apple but they're still pretty dull.

I'm guessing no, since 1.) This came out after the Trilogy's release 2.) the Trilogy doesn't come with any of the DLC (save for the PS3 version of ME2, which already had some of the DLC on disk)
I thought it was cheap of Bioware to make Jacob cheat with Shepard in the first place. At least you get to slap and yell at him in this DLC. Damn it, I wanted the power to either dump or stay with beautiful, somewhat empty, Jacob.
This made Jacob mote intersting then the games ever did.

maybe its to convey a message that shepard is still a woman despite being a soldier and that she had her feelings hurt by a man. the best way to convey that message is to slap someone, though punching would leave more than a mark :3

Edi replaced mordin not grunt (both tech experts) and James replaced grunt not Jacob(both melee/tank types). Jacob didn't have a replacement as he was technically a vanguard (shotgun + biotics) and there were no vanguard teammates in Me3.
No Jacob shepard would be perfectly okay with you starting a family with another woman in the span of six months
as much as i dont like jacob, the fact is that shepard as locked up for some time and they had no contact. I think it is only natural that they grew apart and i suppose i understand why it all happend. besides who would be dumb enough to romance jacob?
