The sheer bolts holding in the loader stand on our Deere 2038R have broken a couple of times. Tractor Time with Tim and the kittens show you how to fix this issue! - Навчання та стиль
Those cats have to be the most curious beasts I have ever seen. I still say they need their own channel.
Well they want to learn as well. Then Tim will have them doing those hard to get to bolts. Lol God bless
The cat licking his butt on top of the tractor is hilarious! What a photobomb!
Had to smile at the revised headline this morning. When I saw it yesterday I thought you'd hear about it...lol.
The world we live in.
Never ,ever compromise on tools. Buy the best that you can afford and your grandkids will still be using them.
the only time to buy a cheep tool is you know your going to modify it bend it grind it
Snap rings can take out an eye, please heed this and wear safety eye protection. Only two to a customer.
I love to watch your cats ham it up for the camera. Thanks for the advice.
I have the same tractor 2038R and 220 loader and I have had to replace this bolt two different times! Thank You for making this video
Cats having fun and helping well!! Good video
That was the most entertaining episode I have seen so far on your channel.
Those cats are just like our barn cats just so starved for attention. Always in the way and knocks all the parts and tools where you don’t need them. Gotta love it.
I just adore your kitties😊😊😊
Make your own snap ring plies Tim ! I made a pair more than twenty years ago from a pair of needle nose pliers by carefully grinding the tips to the appropriate roundness and they work great!
I bought a snap ring plier with interchangeability like you, and I swore at it too. Mine did same thing by twisting. Your not alone.
Left hand drill bits work great for taking out broke off bolts! Cats are great helpers too!
Kinda like it when the cats gets on Tims nerves 😹
Interesting. Love fix it yourself videos. Great job showing patience in a fix it video, something I need to get better at!!!!
Love your video, good to know. Love your 🐈 s it's nice to see they are helpful. Thanks Larry
My Dad's vibrated out on his 2032R. Ended up using a little blue thred lock. Since he never takes the loader off, it might not be an issue. Great video 👍
💥 Even though that stand has broke a few times on you I still think it’s a better design than the Kubota BX. Seems like a pretty easy problem for JD to solve. Wish Kubota had a similar design.
I loved the “good grief” and battle with the cats. It’s adding some comedy to your channel. Pretty funny!
Keep on tractoring! 👍
Yea, I am not a fan of the BX stand.
The 1025r loader stand connection is stronger than this. I’m not sure why designed this way.
Another tip for getting out broken bolts, is to cut a slot for a straight screwdriver, or a left hand drill bit. Good Fix, thumbs up !
I've used a Dremel tool to try & make the slot. Has worked a lot of the times unless the bolt is extremely tight. In those instances, it hasn't been pretty. lol
I usually pay a little more for tools. Craftsman or greenlee is usually my choice unless it is a one time thing then I'll get habor freight. Anyway I watch every video you make and I enjoy all of them. I'm so glad this channel is there. Thank you guys. Can't wait for the next one
Snap on is great . Some tools you just have to bit the bullet and pay the extra money, to me it’s not worth fighting every time I need them. Great info,Tim👍 jdmich
Hey Tim, 10.9 is all the harder grade bolt I would go. That is supposedly the same as a grade 8 SAE bolt. They do make a 12.9 metric which is harder but it tends to be brittle. May want to try an 8.8 metric bolt, same as a grade 5 SAE. May still break but if you have to use an easy out, you won’t lose as many drill bits trying to get a hole in it. Good job on the repair.
Hello Tim Have a safe weekend.
Hi Tim,
I have a 2038R as well. I’ve taken the loader on and off dozens of times. With the single point hydraulics it’s so easy and knock on wood I’ve had zero issues.
I try to leave my tractor in neutral and let the loader push the tractor back when disconnecting the loader. And let it pull the tractor forward when hooking it up. I noticed
your loader went forward it might be causing your problem???? It looked like at the very end of disconnecting it pushed the stand down.
I’ve learned plenty form you just trying to return the favor.
Keep up the good work!!
Good job! Also love the kitty cats!
When I mount my loader I put the tractor in neutral and let the loader pull it ahead as the cylinders suck in, also keeps from scraping the stand on the concrete. Thanks for showing this I'm sure I'll put your demo to use at some point!
Hey Tim, I found through trial and tribulation, SnapOn snap ring pliers are great. They have a few different sets with different sizes. Well worth the money. And no more Fly Clip aggravation!
Chanellock snap ring pliers. They are internal/external. Menards sells them.
Just like the tools The pin goes Snap-on Snap-off. Sunnex makes a really good set of snap ring pliers. When ya greaze it. Love TTWT.
I've never been lucky enough to get a broken off bolt out as easy as you did. For snap ring pliers, chase down a Snap On man and bite the bullet and get a good set.
I've been through the gauntlet of snap-ring pliers and finally bought a nice Proto set. They aren't cheap but are considerably cheaper than snap-on or their competitors. The quality of the steel really matters in a tool with such a small acting surface.
Very good video. It really does look like an easy loader to take on and off.
Tim, Those cats are adorable.
I have a set of matco snap ring pliers and they’ve served me well.
Tim those kittens just love you to death. Really like watching them my wife now watches when they are in the video. She not much interested in tractor stuff. 😄
Ha ha it’s tractor time with Tim ...and his cats😁👍 good video and explanation. On the repair.
It was hilarious watching your cat trying to lie down on the hood while realizing the slick surface and slope might cause kitty to fall. The cat looked like there was some problem solving going on!
Oh one more tip. In the last part where the cat wanted more camera time while you were trying not to laugh or shoo the cat away, here is a quick tip that might help. Cats HATE having their noses tapped. When kitty gets too close just gently and quickly do a fast and light tap on edge of nose above their nostril. It’s extremely sensitive to the touch so be gentle and quick. They will get the message. Unless kitty is stupid or something 😂👍
BTW, I'm pretty sure that safety glasses would be a Real Good idea when fooling with snap rings.
I could not agree more.
Thanks Tim! Great job.
Great video Tim!
Tim, I'm thinking of checking with Snap-on or Mac tools, check if they have a lifetime warranty on the snap ring pliers, I have a set of them and had no problems. Been liking the "Johnny" videos
Tim,
Get yourself a set of ~ Snap-on ~ Snap Ring Pliers ...
They may cost a little more, but well worth it. They'll be the last set you'll ever have to buy.
love your helping hands , lol
Throw a shop rag over the snap-ring when letting it go. Using a harder bolt will make removing it harder if it breaks again, chisel can't dig in.
Nice to have the farm experience in your back pocket for these jobs. Nicely done, I'd done it pretty much the same way.
Channellock make very good snap ring pliers plus they are made in the USA in Meadville, Pa
Could you take the pins to a machine shop and have bigger holes tapped in and make new or drill out the old washer and bushings? Go to an m12?
I haven’t found a good set of snapping pliers in a long time. When you or if you have to replace that bolt again drill a cheater hole deep enough to where it breaks flush. You can then just use your easy out. We did that at work all the time.
When I disconnect my loader, I use two separate moving dollies. One is underneath the stand and the other larger one under the loader. This allows for the necessary movement between the stand and loader and never causes any strain on the stand.
I know by putting the tractor in neutral while doing this has the same effect, which I also do,it’s just that I need to store my loader on something I can move around.
It works great for me.
Hmm. Did you learn that from a TTWT episode?
#46 John Deere 1025R Loader removal/storage on rollers/caster wheels.

Tractor Time with Tim no,came up with the idea on my own
Johnny is too clean Tim!
Tim after breaking and bending multiple snap ring pliers I finally broke down and bought a set of knipex out of Germany.
Any online fastener house will have a higher grade of bolt. Be sure to check out the shear load on the bolt, something tells me that the higher grades have a less shear strength. Just a thought.
Good video Tim you did a good job. I would make them snap ring pliers fly like the snap ring . Them cats love Tim thanks buddy
My friend. May I suggest? John Deere in Greensburg Indiana had a set of John Deere snap ring pliers. I purchased them and really love them. The package has many different options / positioning ends. I will try and post them 😁. John Deere tools I have found to be good quality. Being a John Deere owner by preference. I do like the tools and not too awfully priced.
ID:TY24515 part number of the snap ring pliers 😁
Icon snap ring pliers set at harbor freight are pretty good, there have solid ends, not the flimsy interchange ones.
my 2038r does the same thing and continues to do it or the bolt just comes lose and you have to tighten it up about once a week it your not using the loader much thanks for the video
Greeeeeze it Baby!! Needs to be a T -shirt !
The Hi-Tech brand internal/external snap ring pliers are some of the best I've ever owned. Extremely well made and durable. They cost about $25 plus tax and maybe shipping
Bye bye snap ring! 👋 I’ve never had that happen before... truly amazing how far they can go! 😳 btw, sometimes a reverse twist (left handed) drill bit will remove a stuck bolt kind of like an screw extractor.
When it comes to snap-ring pliers, don't skimp on size or let the price necessarily scare you away. I've learned that the hard way over the past few years using the cheap pair my dad had. Don't know what I got now, but i've got good ones from NAPA in Olney, IL. If you visit sometime, I can show them to you. If I can remember though, I'll leave a comment sometime on what they are. I got a medium & large pair.
The key summary point here: when you work on tractors, you have to be creative in how you use your tools. Knipex pliers as a snap ring plier support mechanism; sockets as a pin extractor tool, etc. It always seems to work that way. Maybe try using a large cloth or a wide mouth plastic bottle as a capture mechanism to keep the snap ring from launching, lol!
Great video
love the kitties
My snap ring pliers are from Chraftsman bought at my local Ace hardware store. 3 different sizes in one package
Great job enjoyed that!!!
Napa in my mind has the best snap ring pliers they are the red-handled variety the next best to them would be knipex
It’s funny to watch how those kittens want to be right on top of what you’re doing. Sorry to say that it doesn’t change with age. I have 2 barn cats as well and they’re always at arms length. As frustrating as it can be, I’m grateful for them with each dead mouse. It’s certainly saved me from expensive wiring harness repairs.
Check out the knipex snap ring pliers they work pretty good
I use colbert snap ring pliers works great
Channellock makes a great set of snap ring pliers. And a plus they are made in the USA.
Knipex makes an excellent set of snap ring pliers. Not too expensive. Those are the best ones on the market.
Nope no broken stand. I have a Kubota L2501 :)Though I do like John Deere
I got a set of channel lock snap ring pliers I had fior year , the have replaceable and with straight and 90 tips , and are reversible and never broke a tip, had a pair of Snap ons, lets just say the channels locks have been around longer then the SnapOn"s and half the cost but i had them from back in the 90s, the newer models look a lot better then the ones I have now
Hi Tim,
Always amusing watching the cats! NAPA has good snap ring pliers. McMaster Carr will have the bolts you are looking for.
How about a low profile wheeled cart to put under the loader stand to give it more freedom of movement. If the wheels are large enough then it should work on almost any terrain.
Didn't know Tim you had so many Kubota watchers 😁. That's great you know!!
Just wanting to be updated on all superior built to break designed on all jd ! Makes for great laugh w/ morning coffee !
Glad you are enjoying it. We keep it real in this channel. We use our equipment hard, and we don’t hide the issues we encounter.
Any brand of equipment will have some issues.
I have a pair of the channel lock snap ring pliers for a few years now and have been very happy with them. They reverse just by sliding a button from side to side.
I wonder if you simply put your tractor in neutral while removing the loader if it would allow the tractor to move when the loader cannot slide and help with this issue?
Two comments for you Tim: 1) I wouldn't necessarily say those snap ring pliers sucked. They were the wrong size. If the pins in the end of the pliers are smaller than than the holes in the snap ring, it won't work very well. You need a much bigger set of pliers. 2) I almost hate posting this, but the first set of snap ring pliers I bought from Harbor Freight was the ICON set. 4 inside and 4 outside pliers in a blow molded case. I was pleasantly surprised by their quality. The sizes in the kit were a little big for most of my tasks, but I bet they would work perfect for that snap ring. And they are only $60 for the set.
Great info 👍👍
Thank God you had the cats there to give you a helping paw. LOL
Left twist drill bit will remove a non seized broken bolt.
Hi Tim I have a 1025 r and I never had to the buck framer
Lowe's has channel locks brand snap ring pliers. They seem to be made very very well.
If your wanting the best deal though. Lowe's has Irwin with three different heads for $14.98
I have a 2038r as well, mine did break too.
Hi, Tim. This is my first comment but your videos were a key factor in me buying my own 1025R FILB this past July with zero buyer's remorse! Regarding this fix, to help put everything back together afterward is there any reason you couldn't leave the deep socket in place to hold everything in alignment then allow the pin to push it back out during reinstallation? I use this method all the time in similar situations and it saves a lot of time and frustration.
Yes, coulda shoulda.
Thanks for the kind words. Glad you are enjoying your 1025r!
Your kitties are very cute !! Please take good care of them .
Keep the cats in the videos please. I'm sure I'm not the only one that enjoys seeing them and their "antics." Lol.
channel lock brand pliers works awesome
Hi tim check out snap-on drill extractor set they are left hand bits most of the time just the bit will remove the bolt. Kinipex and otc are the best snap ring pliers
your welcome hope this helps out
Cover your snap ring and pliers with a shop rag before turning them loose, should prevent it from flying away. Also, a deadblow hammer would do less damage on that pin.
I try to haver a small box handy to release them into when I have to work with snap rings
When the bolt holding the blade assembly and bump guard broke on my John Deere brush cutter had to use that trick to remove the 1 1/8 inch bolt.
The transformation of Tractor Time with Tim into Pesky Cat Time with Tim has begun. Tim can still talk tractors, but the number of views will skyrocket. 😺 😉
He would get more views and likes if he named it pesky pussy time with tim😂😂😂😂
I've always had good luck with a tool company called Gear Wrench. They are about mid priced but have a lifetime warranty.
HAHA Tim i get ya...years ago i had to replace my moms Taurus water pump ( that was like a yearly HAHA) . a stray we took in had kittens. i was replacing that pump at like 12year old kid. then kittens to this day on the left side of my body got the scars form them little kitties.
The only good snap ring pliers that I found are snap on or MAC they cost a lot but they work
When doing stuff that may shoot across the room, I try to stick it in a bucket or in a plastic store bag.
I think you should buy some left hand drill bits. They usually catch and bring out bolts just fine. And if it don't then your hole is ready for your extractor.
Tim, if you put that snap ring down in an empty 5 gal bucket before you let it go it will bounce around in the bucket and land in the bottom, easy as pie.
Love the cat steeling your video. So snapring pliers, get a good set at the NFMS in Louisville. They have good sets or go to NAPA
Hi Tim and Christy good video the cats own you now Tim
I broke the loader stand brackets right out of the loader on my 1026r so I get to spend $1200 bucks on two new loader masts. Was taking the loader off to put on the 54” mold board snow plow and the brakes gets in the way, didn’t notice until I heard the casting break.
We all make mistakes. Sorry to hear about that!
Perhaps that is why they put these wimpy bolts on the 220r loader…to act as shear bolts which break before the mast!
Best snap ring pliers money can buy Knipex. They are extremely rigid, you do have to buy internal and external specifically, you can select them individually on McMaster Carr or Grainger usually around $27.00 a set.
